"A characterful 17C Dower House of the Duchess of Rutland, with gardens leading down to the river. There’s a snug open-fired sitting room and a characterful bar with stone walls, wood-panelling and a large peacock mural. Bedrooms mix antique furnishings with modern facilities and service is top-notch." - Tablet Hotels

Brilliant pub! Always a good pit stop when in Bakewell. The whole family visited last weekend and it was simply amazing. The service, the food and everything. Thank you. And also a mention to Henry! He’s a credit to you.

We had a great meal , well presented and plentiful. I chose to order chips with my fish finger sandwich and really didn't need to ! They say fish fingers, but in reality it was 3 fish goujons, large and with crispy batter. The children's meals were presented with the same care as those for adults.|We chose to go late afternoon as the children are 3 and 5, there was no problem being there with them.|The Peacock is lovely, cosy and welcoming.|Thankyou

Went in today. Nice to get straight to the bar without it being crazy busy like in the summer. Friendly staff at the bar. Nice to get local 'Peak ales'. Bakewell best, Summer sovereign & Swift nick all very good beers. Not eaten here ourselves yet, but the food coming out from the kitchen looked good. Not stayed over, but we don't live that far away so can't comment on the rooms

Food was great on Sunday so we came back Monday. We had steak & chicken sandwiches with chunky fries. New chef introduced himself. Food was piping hot & good portion. 👍 Great atmosphere well managed pub. Dog friendly kid friendly great outdoor area with heaters.

Nice room however my toilet backed up into the shower! It was dreadful! Some other people said the same so it wasn't just me! It really smelt! I did mention it to the owner on booking.com but haven't heard back. Reading some of the comments and the responses to the bad ones are quite shocking. So I don't expect my issue to be looked into. Re the comments, I didn't mention it as we arrived late and left at 6am. So no one was around once I had a shower in the morning. Also the other rooms were friends of mine hence why I know I wasn't alone. I messaged the booking.com messaging system in the morning to let you know as I had no other way of contacting you and I booked through that system.

Only went for drinks. Service was ok (lads collecting glasses and taking out food were incredibly polite and confident and really stood out). Good beer, great location and really enjoyed my time here. Would definitely visit again (Also, very clean despite being very busy)

We had an outstanding meal ,I had the fish basket and my husband had the fish and chips. We were showed to our table by a lovely young man. We would highly recommend a visit if you are in Bakewell

Yelp
We were a group of four for dinner. We each had a different item from their pub menu. Although the food was absolutely delicious, we each thought that our serving portion was just a bit too much. Wish we had enough room for dessert. We'd definitely return for another meal but will request smaller portions as we want to taste their desserts.

Yelp
This place was clean and The floor staff was friendly. The wait was not long given the amount of people. The steak and ale pie was good. The fish part of the fish and chips was awful. My older son ordered this, we took half of the fish and put it on another plate. I ate a couple of bites. We had no more than six bites in all. We've never made a complaint about fish and chips which is what we commonly order. We did Report the problem and the two people that responded tried to take both plates away without asking. We had her other dinner on there, so that was kind of a shocker. We asked them to leave it so that we could eat the french fries, and the rest of the steak and ale on the second plate. They took both plates. When they came back and said we eat eaten most of the fish which was not true, as a matter fact majority of the french fries and a third of the meat pie was still there as well! They did offer us a half-price dessert and return. We declined and left. We were shocked by the performance. We originally gave them two stars but given the owners extreme and a nasty response on Trip Advisor, it's now a one - totally floored by such poor the lack of restaurant hospitality

Yelp
We checked out all the pubs in Bakewell. For food, this was the best for pub fare. Others were limited. One did not have the two things we ordered.

Yelp
Very expensive for what you get (pretty standard pub fare) but think that is down to being in a fairly tourist trappy area. Food and drink was nice but nothing to shout about given the prices but the staff were very friendly so a definite plus.
