"Many Johannesburg hotels fall into two categories: elegant and Old World, or pleasantly bland. The Peech is determined to create its own category as Joburg’s go-to style-centric, edgy design hotel. The 16 rooms have sleek decor with vibrant contemporary African motifs (brightly colored patterns, funky wallpaper, animal-hide rugs), and the lobby feels more like a cozy alpine living room. The beautiful gardens around which the rooms are clustered beckon guests to relax with a book in the hammock, with nothing but the soundtrack of chirping birds to distract them. But as far-removed from bustling Johannesburg as the Peech may feel, guests are never too far from the action. Melrose Arch is just a few minutes’ drive away."

The Peech, Johannesburg, South Africa - Explore & Book

"In a quiet backstreet of Melrose, wrapped around by a mature, high-walled garden, this small boutique hotel offers guests a safe, comfortable and stylish haven well away from the cut and thrust of the city centre. James Peech completely gutted then refurbished this 1950s house and built two additional garden annexes to create one of the city’s coolest retreats, which happily marries the best of contemporary design with a big splash of afro-ethnic attitude. A predominantly beige and white colour scheme provides a quiet backdrop for some colourful furnishings and fabrics: ochre velvet sofas and feature wallpapers mix with more ethnic elements like carved ebony tables, blesbok and antelope skin rugs and kuba cloth wall hangings. The Peech’s 32 stylish and airy bedrooms have every mod-con, Basalt and the Garden Restaurant are up to the mark, there’s a rotating exhibition of paintings and photography, and the hotel is imbued by the easy, open nature of its young owners. Highs Spacious light-filled bedrooms with stacks of designer attitudeA quiet garden, dripping in greenery, with a small swimming pool and lots of shaded spots and loungersFriendly, helpful staffWe hear Basalt serves delicious food, so there’s no need to leave the hotel if you’re looking for top-notch cuisine (plus the Garden Restaurant serves simpler meals)Melrose is one of Johannesburg's most attractive suburbs with a great choice of bars, restaurants and shops, and it's close to both Rosebank and Sandton Lows The Peech is a good 20-minute taxi ride away from the city centre and you’ll need transport to get to restaurants, museums, markets etcSome feedback suggests that hotel-arranged taxis can be unreliable, so be sure to give yourself plenty of timeJohannesburg does have safety issues – but The Peech is in a good neighbourhood and is designed to ensure security so that guests feel at ease" - Guy Hunter Watts

"Melrose, in the upscale northern suburbs of Johannesburg, is already an auspicious setting for a boutique hotel, but the Peech Hotel’s setting, just across the road from a park, affords it an extra measure of tranquility. And tranquility is an attribute that a hotel like the Peech can use. This is no nightclub with rooms — quite the opposite, it’s an upscale residential-style lodging whose genteel atmosphere feels at times something like a country estate." - Tablet Hotels

Hotel: beautiful, spacious room. The grounds are gorgeous! An oasis in a beautiful part of Joburg with easy safe access to parks, shopping and restaurants Restaurant: the food here is absolutely delicious. Both restaurants are of top quality and The Pot Luck is one of the best. Breakfast buffet and a la carte are plentiful, beautifully presented and very tasty The Staff: this is where The Peech truly shines. From the guys at the gate entrance to the front desk and restaurant staff you are always met with a smile. The staff are engaging, professional and accommodating.

A relaxing, lovely boutique hotel in a safe J'burg neighbourhood. Rooms are massive, bed super comfy. Two very small outdoor pools were extremely cold. Service friendly and diligent, despite two mornings in a row not getting requested mornings wake up calls. Breakfast best we had out of all South Africa hotels, including the much lauded Cape Town Mount Nelson

Absolutely wonderful oasis in JoBurg, literally from the moment we arrived until the moment we left ALL of the staff were wonderful, excellent service, great food. The hotel is beautifully decorated with lush gardens. It’s quiet and peaceful. We particularly liked the fact that the security guards checked where we were going and noted our UBER number ( in particular Peter … such a warm gentleman .. welcoming us as if we were family). We will definitely come back.

From the moment we arrived, to the minute we left, we were treated like honoured guests. The wonderful staff really could not have done more to make us feel welcome.||In addition to the exceptional service, we had the most wonderful meals. The food quality was excellent, the presentation beautiful and the flavours sublime. ||The grounds are delightful and beautifully maintained. The rooms are fabulous, and due to the excellent design, despite the heat, we didn't need to put the aircon on once.||I only wish I could have stayed longer and very much hope to return one day.

Phenomenal place! Absolutely loved our stay here and highly recommend! The staff and service were excellent. They have amazing room turndown service, the rooms are gorgeous, spacious, luxurious, and relaxing. It was a perfect refresh that broke up our two weeks of safari. The on-site restaurant is very good and we enjoyed being able to have dinner there twice with ease. The pool areas are very nice, but our stay was in September so the pool was not really warm enough to swim in, but we enjoyed being poolside. Only complaint is that coordination of our morning transport to the airport was messy. We e-mailed to confirm our transport plans, but the front desk did not have record of that. And the morning-of multiple drivers could not figure out which vehicle we were supposed to be in until we checked.

The Peech Hotel was meant to be a pit stop before continuing on our African Safari and it completely blew away our expectations. From the second you walk in, the staff is so friendly and welcoming. Peter the security guard was awesome and walked us from the hotel to the gym entrance which is next door. The grounds are cozy and intentional, the rooms are beautiful , every detail is thought out. The food at the hotel is DELICIOUS, and our server Gabriel was spectacular. If you are going to Joburg, the Peech is a MUST.

We stayed at the Peech Hotel in Johannesburg for one night as part of our honeymoon and birthdays. Since we weren’t in the hotel much, this is just a brief but helpful review: Highlights: The bed was incredibly comfortable, helping us rest well despite our short stay. On arrival, we were pleasantly surprised with glasses of champagne and partial petal decorations, which were a lovely and thoughtful touch for our special occasion. The location is pleasant and convenient, making it a great option for a 1–2 night stay in Johannesburg. Staff were helpful, especially when we needed to leave early and instead of a hot breakfast, they kindly provided breakfast boxes—a practical workaround we appreciated. We dined in the restaurant; the food was okay, but the dining area felt a bit quiet since we were the only guests at the time. Summary: An overall comfortable and pleasant place for a short stay, with some nice gestures that made our visit feel special—especially appropriate for celebratory occasions like a honeymoon or birthdays. A solid option if you're looking for a relaxed, uncomplicated stay with thoughtful service.

Excellent boutique hotel in lovely neighbourhood in Melrose. Had a long and wonderful shower without any pressure or temperature issues. Bedsheets were clean and quality material. Had a lovely dinner and lunch too. One of the best service anywhere in the world. Just a note to the management. Check the door locks. Some of them are not working well and are a but loose. And, where do you hide the gin? Plenty of tonic in the mini bar.
