"Many Johannesburg hotels fall into two categories: elegant and Old World, or pleasantly bland. The Peech is determined to create its own category as Joburg’s go-to style-centric, edgy design hotel. The 16 rooms have sleek decor with vibrant contemporary African motifs (brightly colored patterns, funky wallpaper, animal-hide rugs), and the lobby feels more like a cozy alpine living room. The beautiful gardens around which the rooms are clustered beckon guests to relax with a book in the hammock, with nothing but the soundtrack of chirping birds to distract them. But as far-removed from bustling Johannesburg as the Peech may feel, guests are never too far from the action. Melrose Arch is just a few minutes’ drive away."

I have been in JNB a couple of times an usually we stayed at Saxon. This time we decided to try The Peech Hotel and was not disappointed. The rooms are great, the gardens amazing and they do have two swimming pools (would be nice to be heated). Unfortunately the Pot Luck Club was closed on Sunday and Monday. The area of the hotel is also nice and there is a park just across the street. Would definitely stay at The Peech again.

My husband and I traveled to South Africa for my birthday and we stayed at The Peech Hotel for a total of 3 nights. All of the staff are wonderful, from the security, to the bellman, front desk, and servers at breakfast. Everyone is so nice, and friendly. They will happily assist you with anything you need. We like staying at boutique hotels because they have a special charm, superior service, and cleanliness. Staying at The Peech met our expectations and beyond. The grounds are beautiful, the hotel lobby quaint and well designed with great music. Perfect to invite you to just sit around and enjoy the fire place on a cool evening. The hotel is in a safe neighborhood and is in close proximity to top dining locations in Melrose, Rosebank or to Sandton Mall. If you have a gluten allergy they can accommodate with gluten free bread or with modifications. We will certainly return to The Peech Hotel!

A true gem in Johannesburg — peaceful, stylish, and incredibly welcoming. The staff was very helpful and welcoming, the rooms were well designed and spotless clean, and the restaurant delivered delicious meals in a serene setting. A bonus was having a full gym with amenities just next door, which made it easy to stay active during my stay. Thoughtful details, lush gardens, and a calm atmosphere made this feel like a real retreat. I’d return in a heartbeat.

A Hidden Gem in Melrose – An Unforgettable Stay at The Peech Hotel Nestled in the heart of Melrose, The Peech Hotel is an intimate boutique retreat that offers an exceptional blend of comfort, elegance, and personalized service. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the friendly and attentive staff (Sivu & Shepherd), who went above and beyond to make our stay truly special. Morning were also beautiful as you will be guaranteed to meet Thoko on your way who would greet you with a beautiful bubbly smile. The hotel’s serene atmosphere, surrounded by lush greenery, provided the perfect escape from the city’s bustle. Our room was beautifully designed—modern, spacious, and thoughtfully appointed with all the amenities one could need, it felt like home! A standout feature of our stay was the on-site restaurant, which delivered an unforgettable culinary experience. The menu was exquisite, offering a range of expertly crafted dishes that showcased fresh, high-quality ingredients. Whether it was breakfast @Peech (Oscar and team), or dinner @the pot luck (great, knowledgeable team enjoyed the wine), every meal was a delight, making the hotel’s dining a true highlight. The impeccable service, warm hospitality, and charming ambiance made our weekend at The Peech Hotel nothing short of amazing. Whether you’re visiting for business or leisure, this boutique gem is a must-visit. We will definitely be returning!

The Peech feels like home away from home. Gabrielle is an excellent GM, warm, friendly, kind, helpful, and genuine. The staff are all extremely helpful, warm, and friendly. A highlight as a returning guest is that the majority of the employees have been there for years. So when you return, you recognize each other and feels like you're coming "home". The hotel details are impeccable. The rooms have the latest USB and USB-c outlets to make charging devices easy without needing country-specific adapters. Furnishing are comfortable - a desk chair to work from, a chair to relax in, and a chaise to lounge in. A plus is your own private balcony if you're on an upper level or patio at garden level. Not only does this give you your own space to read or have a cup of tea/coffee, but also space to enjoy the lush gorgeous gardens. The rooms are all modern without feeling sterile or cookie-cutter. Tones of warm neutrals with greens and hints of pink and red crate a warm yet soothing environment to truly relax in. Wood flooring under foot feels soft and natural. This transitions into the bathroom where the flooring - quartz carpet, inspired us to use this material in our own home. A separate soaking tub and spacious shower all in a spacious bathroom space truly feels luxurious. An added bonus - a heated towel bar, which truly is a luxury. Hotel beds can vary in comfort being either too soft or too hard. This fit right in between and was really restful. The bedding was just right, especially the comforter. Some hotels have comforters that feel unnecessarily heavy. Once again the right balance was struck between weight and warmth. Because you have a patio, you can open the doors in addition to windows. Having fresh air instead of recirculated air conditioning is so important yet not typically available, particularly if you're staying at a larger hotel chain. There are two pools shaded by gorgeous old trees with exceptionally comfortable loungers and towels from local linens company - Mungo. You could sit here all day, amongst the birds and private gardens, an oasis. You wouldn't know you were in a busy city. Overall, a true oasis and hidden gem in a bustling big city.

I cannot recommend this marvelous hotel too strongly; it was perfect. The staff were beyond helpful, the room was beautifully appointed, the catering was first rate. After a long train journey, the chance to just relax in the beautiful surroundings was just so appreciated. I'm sorry South Africa is so far from Philadelphia: I'd return in a minute.

Somewhat dissatisfied with the hotel. The hotel is located in a relatively safe area of Johannesburg next to a beautiful park. Unfortunately service is not as sharp as one would expect for a premium hotel. We arrived on a Monday and discovered that the bar and Pot luck restaurant was closed. The best the hotel could do was to seat us in the lobby to have drinks. We were informed that we the menu in the cafe/breakfast room was the same as the Pot Luck. No, it wasn’t.

This review is long over due. We stayed in July 2024, but I am just now getting around to writing the review. Everything that others have said about the restaurant, the beautiful room, beautiful hotel grounds, etc is all true. There's nothing I can add that hasn't already been said. This hotel is WONDERFUL. ||My review is to comment on the exceptional care this hotel took of my husband when he was very sick. We are from the United States and were traveling on a 23 day trip around the world to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. We enjoyed dinner at the hotel the first night, then spent the following day (which was the day of our 10 year anniversary) at Ukutula lodge to walk with lions. While at Ukutula, my husband became very ill. It got increasingly worse as the day wore on, until he could barely walk as he was in so much stomach pain. We thought maybe it was something he ate that morning (NOT at the hotel--at a local cafe) and when we returned to the hotel, I informed them we would be canceling our reservations for our wedding anniversary dinner, as my husband was unwell. They were very understanding and I'm not sure if they usually charge people in that situation, but they did not charge us. We canceled an hour before the dinner and it was the tasting menu, so I know we inconvenienced them terribly, but they did not let on. When we got to our room, there was a bottle of champagne waiting for us, as it was our anniversary night. I called and asked if they could come get the bottle, as we would not be enjoying it that night since he was sick. When one of the members of the hotel staff came up to get the bottle, he saw how sick my husband looked while in the bed. He asked me if I needed him to call a doctor. Being from the US, I didn't know this was even an option. I asked him if that was something that would be wildly expensive and he explained that it would not be (again, not something we are used to in the US). My husband declined the offer, but he got worse. I ended up calling the receptionist again and asked for a doctor. They had a doctor at the door of our hotel room in under an hour. My husband was given a few vaccines and antibiotics by the doctor, who was also so kind. He had some sort of a stomach bug which was causing the pain and nonstop vomiting. ||After he fell asleep, I went down to the lobby to read a little bit and get out of the hotel room and get some fresh air. Once I was in the lobby, the front desk staff immediately recognized me and asked if there was anything else they could do for me or if I needed food or a drink. They were so kind to me during a really difficult time and made me feel like everything was going to be okay.||The medication helped and my husband felt well enough to get on a plane to Singapore 36 hours later--something he never could have done when he was so sick. In the end, we were charged US$260 by the doctor for his services and all of that medication. The front desk continued to check in on us during our last day (we stayed 3 nights and the 2nd night was when he got sick). I just couldn't believe how kind and accommodating they were. Before they offered to send a doctor, I was terrified. We were halfway around the world from home, my husband was so ill I didn't know how he would get on a plane to continue our journey, and I had nobody to call. They truly saved our vacation and helped my husband get back to good health. Without the proper care, who knows how much sicker he would have gotten. ||I want to add that this not only speaks to the extreme hospitality of the Peech Hotel, but also the country of South Africa. This was not how I wanted my time at the Peech Hotel to go, but all things considered, it was a lovely experience and I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Johannesburg. ||Thank you to the Peech Hotel for treating us like family and taking care of us when our 10 year wedding anniversary took a turn for the worst! Your staff will always have a special place in our hearts. I've told anyone who will listen to me all about your wonderful hotel and your wonderful hospitality :)
