Yelp
This place was absolutely beautiful, but... It is a bed and breakfast, so there are some things you gain and some things you lose as compared to hotel accommodations. It gets a middle of the road review from me.
In the gains category, the innkeeper was friendly and efficient. I have to give her a lot of credit for keeping her cool with another group of guests, whose behavior at breakfast was completely atrocious. The breakfast both days was very good. You have free reign of the whole house, which is spacious and grand. Our room had 15 foot ceilings and was very pretty. Overall, a very nice feel.
In the losses category, there were a couple of big ones. One, you can't control the temperature of your room. I sweated to death both nights. The innkeeper had told the awful lady at breakfast that she could adjust it for her, but I didn't really like the idea of freezing everyone out to fix my room, so I sucked it up. Two, the bathrooms in at least half of the rooms are less than ideal. Our room had an attached bath, but we had to go down some steps to get to it. The shower head angle was for a much larger shower, so it was tight and awkward. I couldn't stop getting sprayed in the face and shaving your legs is pretty much impossible. Our friend had to go downstairs entirely to get to her detached bathroom, but they did provide fluffy robes for the trek. The bed was comfortable, but very high off the ground and not great for two people. Every time one of us moved, the other got shaken awake.
I do think they killed a little of the character with details like the bathrooms (the laminate floors and modern showers just didn't match the character of the house) and things like the plastic stool that many people would need to get in and out of bed. I wouldn't stay again because I didn't get great sleep (due to the bed and the temp), but If you are less of a fussy sleeper, it's a nice place and I'd recommend it.
