Guide to Visiting Big Bend National Park

"Highlighted as a standout Airbnb in the Big Bend area, this entirely off‑grid house sits on a limestone plateau and exemplifies the surge of interesting, rustic to luxurious private rentals (bubbles, domes, yurts, and more) that have appeared in the last several years—an option for visitors seeking a unique, self‑contained lodging experience outside traditional hotels and campgrounds." - Carrie Dennis Carrie Dennis Carrie Dennis is a New York City-based writer and editor with more than a decade of content strategy experience. Edit: It seemed that there was a big miscommunication during the managers’ transition period during our first visit, yet the new manager Eileen was so helpful and was extremely amiable during our second tour attempt today. We really liked the property and any apprehension we felt before was absolved thanks to Eileen and her showing of the carefully curated property. Thank you again to Eileen for your bright hospitality! Original post: After a difficult time trying to schedule a tour, we showed up at 1pm on Wednesday (our promised time, changed because the manager does not come in on Thursdays and had a lunch break at 12) and waited for over 50 minutes. There was apparently a change of managers at the start of the month and as you can see on the sheet of paper, there was no reason for the new manager to have been unavailable for our scheduled tour. We called numerous times but to no avail and there was no response when we emailed the management as well. We are very disappointed, as we liked this Eagle Rock location, the apartment and amenities provided.

Building management has been top tier here. Mayra has provided excellent customer service, promptness on replies, and overall good vibes. Recently had a slew of maintenance requests and shipping issues which she handled with much grace and urgency. In addition, living here has been really peaceful and nice. Respectful neighbors, quiet area, nice living conditions (really new units), and amenities (grill and pool area; soon a gym). The last thing that makes this place so convenient is that it’s literally right next to a target, some of the best tacos in LA, and a 15 minute drive from anywhere you’d want to go in the Northeast LA area (downtown, Pasadena, 626, Little Tokyo, Ktown). Overall, I’m very satisfied living here. Highly recommend! Shoutout to Mayra again for being a great building manager

The new management does not care for the residents. Outsiders are constantly coming in to steal packages. Coming into the building to roam around the parking and halls. When you tell the property management. They simply don’t care. They brush it off and have no concern for the residents safety. We use to have security with roundhouse. Abra simply doesn’t care. They have so many empty apartments since I’ve been here. Most likely people are fed up. It’s obvious whoever they have running this place is not adequate and fit to manage this building. I am not only speaking specifically about the mangers on site but the people over at the corporate office. I’ve called with my concerns and as many other tenants and you get the cold shoulder. It’s very unfortunate because this building has potential to be great. Not sure if the owners know how badly their property is being managed. Anyway! Stay away if you don’t want your packages stolen. Your cars being broken into and obviously if you simply want management to do something about it.

Their mailroom is pretty small, it’s almost like an unused closet. I wish it was a bit bigger so all my Amazon deliveries could fit in there

We've lived here a year. First Tyler Boren was the leasing agent, and she was near impossible to get a hold of. Then we got Francine, and she was incredibly rude, and again, impossible to get in touch with. Then we got Emilia (I think?) - she was lovely, and lasted about 2 weeks. Now I believe we are on Lexi - also completely impossible to get in touch with. They love to blame you for issues with the property and that's if/when they respond to you at all. Javier, the onsite maintenance person, is a gem. They are truly lucky to have him. Also, beware: two of the 5-star reviews below are Nelson and Tyler (ex-employee and her partner).

This review is based on events after the tour. Left an extra star because the unit was nice and the building itself had decent amenities. My fiancé and I had applied online to get one of the units and the communication thereafter was severely lacking. Prior to giving our social security number and then running our credit, Amanda (from the company that owns/runs athenPerch) was super responsive as well as Nadine via email. After our credit was ran and online it said Congrulations your application was approved. It all went dead silent. My fiancé emailed and called numerous times Tuesday-Friday and we didn’t get a response. There was no lease to sign online and wanted to follow up on what was happening. Our theory is that they probably offered that unit to us too cheap . Nadine had offered 2850 for the unit and then another 200 less because of their special. Might’ve been too cheap for the company to rent out. A couple of days before we put in our application Amanda had called us saying they were honoring that price. But I guess not. To this day we have no idea what was happening. No rejection letter nothing. We went ahead and leased another unit . Much bigger and we had heard from the landlord same day.

I've had a very positive experience here at The Perch—just re-upped my 3rd lease. I'm a grizzled 'ol apartment livin' pro at this point in my life, having spent 25 years in NYC and dealing with management companies and landlords there. No management company is perfect and while there's been some bumps in the road with my time here—one maintenance guy was a bit underwhelming, for example--everyone I've worked with, from the building managers to the corporate office contact have been attentive, professional and incredibly helpful with my specific needs. The web based repair system and webchat/texting system has been solid for me. I've rarely had a need or a question linger for too long. Again, as someone who has dealt with numerous apts, I know that there can be delays and that not everyone on the staff is going to be an A+ talent. My approach is simple: be kind and respectful and you get kindness and respect in turn. There's a way of managing your management team so that they understand you aren't approaching with impatience or entitlement. The current manager Nadine has been the best. So big shout out there. I really enjoy it here. the apt itself is quiet, super sunny, my car is safely parked below the bldg and I'm close to so many great things on the east side. One of my faves is the fact that there's a mini Target next door which made the move from NYC to LA so seamless as everywhere I lived back east had a bodega on the corner—now I just have a bigger one. :)

Booked a tour with a representative over the phone who provided email confirmation of the date and time. Nobody was present in the leasing office or available to answer a phone at the property. Even the management office, which is the phone number on the website, wasn’t able to connect us with anyone who could help. We ended up waiting outside on the street for 35 minutes until we decided to leave because it would not be worth living here if we couldn’t even get in touch with anyone for a scheduled tour.
