The Pergola Boutique Hotel (Cascais, Portugal) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"There’s a sweet story behind the Pergola, a 15-room boutique hotel a short stroll from the beach in the fishing village of Cascais. In 1925, a local businessman purchased a pair of side-by-side chalets with a French-style garden in the middle, then renovated them and gifted them to his two daughters. They remained in the family until the mid-1980s, when one of the chalets was turned into the town’s very first hotel." - Tablet Hotels

A relative and I shared a twin room at this hotel from 30th March 2025 for six days. We were fortunate to have a room with a balcony on the first floor. The hotel was refurbished a few years back, with the rooms having perhaps an art deco/1920s style. It felt as though it could have been out of an Agatha Christie story. I love hotels with character, so The Pergola Boutique Hotel was perfect. I hope to return to this hotel in future.||Hotel highlights - ||1) Beautiful garden and hotel grounds. We heard lots of birds chirping.|2) First-floor lounge area that is nice for reading or working. This was a nice touch and allows you to have a peaceful area away from things.|3) Lovely breakfast area with a delicious omelette.|4) Really nice staff with great customer service. You are put on a hotel WhatsApp group to ask any questions or have things sorted out.|5) The room was well done and had a great view.|6) The restaurant is run by another company, but the food is excellent and the staff are friendly.|7) The hotel was not too large, which allowed for a more intimate feel than larger hotels in Cascais.|8) The transport to the airport and back was easy to arrange. The hotel sent an email with a link to an App-based taxi company that worked well.|||Reception - A huge thanks to Nadia at reception. We had booked to change rooms during our stay as the one we wanted was not available for the whole period. However, due to another guest cancelling, we were able to stay in the same room for the whole period. Great customer service and much appreciated!

Booked this for a two night stay in Cascais before our two night stay in Lisbon. Clean, comfortable, quiet. Check in was easy, breakfast was included and simple (coffee at the roastery across the street was better), and overall a pleasant stay. Room is a bit small, and AC works overtime (we were pretty warm in the room but once we figured out to close up all the windows and put the AC on high power mode, it was okay, not to mention it was 95+ degrees the two days we were there). Oddly enough, the restaurant is separate from the hotel so you cannot charge anything to your room. Although we did not dine there, everyone we spoke to said the food and bar were incredible, from service to the actual meal. Overall would recommend for the boutique feel.

Lovely pretty old fashioned Portuguese hotel which has been modernised. Comfortable spacious rooms with a pretty garden. Staff were ok but not overly welcoming. The breakfast was good with fruit, pastries and bacon and eggs but the 'hot' plates for keeping them warm dud t so they were sadly cold.

We booked this hotel based on the many positive reviews. Unfortunately, our expectations were not met. On the positive side, the location of the hotel is excellent and the staff was helpful and attentive. The hotel is clean, the rooms are spacious, and the included breakfast was good. However, we noted considerable deficiencies: There is no elevator, requiring us to walk up and down 37 steps several times a day. The room was very sparsely decorated - no pictures whatsoever on the walls, no TV, radio, clock or a box of tissues. The placement of the reading lights by the bed was totally inadequate and made it impossible to read in bed. Our room was advertised as having a garden view, but that view was completely blocked in our “superior” room by the roof of the restaurant. The bathroom is outdated and needs a major rennovation. Contrary to claims about the beautiful gardens, the outdoor space is limited and is taken over by a restaurant that is independent of the hotel. Overall, this hotel is highly overpriced and does not deserve 4 stars. For the same price, we could have booked much nicer, 5-starred hotels (we actually checked some of these).

Unfortunately the hotel has handed over the control of their outdoor space to an upmarket restaurant who do not care about hotel guests. Our room overlooked the restaurant and was quite noisy. It was sold as "garden view" room! The only outdoor area for guests was quite often occupied by restaurant patrons and the furniture is quite tatty. The guest sitting room is lovely but not very functional. There are better choices in the same price range.

What a charming place to stay in beautiful Cascais! This was our base for 4 nights and we loved every minute. It's a very special place and centrally located. The morning breakfast is a great way to start the day, and the lovely outdoor bar is a great way to finish the day. Thank you for a memorable stay!

We stayed at the Pergola for 3 nights, with 27 family members, renting just about all of the rooms for our group. We all had a lovely stay. The gardens and outdoor sitting area were lovely and we gathered here most evenings before and after dinner, it was magical. The location of the hotel was great for our group, we could walk to the beach and to dinner, and we also do day trips to Lisbon and Sintra. The breakfast was excellent and the staff were easily accessible and always willing to do all they could to make our stay in Cascais at the Pergola perfect.

Overall a nice hotel with flaws… room was absolutely tiny, nowhere near enough space to open two suitcases. Breakfast was the worst if any of the Mr & Ms Smiths hotels we stayed in with “factory” food. Location is great. Hotel is very pretty. Service was very sweet. I would look at other options in Cascais.
