The Phoenix Hotel Yogyakarta - Handwritten Collection

Stayed at the Phoenix in February. Generally had a great experience - nice and comfortable hotel. Only 3 stars because they make a big deal with signs about trying to reduce single use plastics, but there's no place to fill up water bottles at the hotel so you have to buy plastic bottles. The hotel should have water dispensers in the hallways and lobby.

for the first time I stayed in a hotel that is full of cultural heritage and tradition. made me amazed by the decoration of the room, the beauty of the swimming pool that I could immediately see in the morning through the balcony of the hotel room. fitness, sauna, and swimming facilities are satisfying. and I recommend trying the spa. javanese massage techniques that make me feel reborn. thanks you the phoenix hotel yogyakarta.

The Phoenix is an old school hotel, but is really showing its age. The building and furnishings look dated (not antique) and the rooms a bit too small. ||While the breakfast was decent, the quality of the other meals was average at best. ||However, the hotel is located in a lively part of town and close to many good restaurants. The ++ of this hotel is their courteous and attentive staff - they will bring the stuff super quick.

We were “upgraded” to a pool view room but if we had known that all the balcony lights of all the rooms stay on throughout the night and the room is fitted with curtains that don’t fully cover the windows, we would have said no thank you. See the picture for all the light in the room in the middle of the night. Additionally, if you find earplugs as a standard amenity on your nightstand, you know soundproofing is not great either. So, this 5* hotel failed in its primary job: offering people a good place to sleep. Too bad because the rest is pretty nice (but more 4 star than 5 stars): beautiful premises, excellent service and a good location.

My husband and I had a fantastic 5 night stay. Staff were lovely, amenities great, breakfast and dinner options amazing. The whole hotel is just beautiful and we would love to stay there again.

We had an absolutely fantastic stay at The Phoenix Hotel in Yogyakarta! The hotel’s historic charm, elegant colonial architecture, and serene atmosphere made it a perfect base for exploring the city. Every detail from the beautifully maintained rooms to the peaceful pool area reflected the hotel’s commitment to quality and comfort.||A special mention must go to Dina at the Paprika Restaurant, who truly made our stay unforgettable. Her warm smile, genuine kindness, and impeccable service turned every meal into a wonderful experience. Dina went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, offering great recommendations and ensuring everything was perfect. She embodies the spirit of Indonesian hospitality at its best.||We left The Phoenix Hotel feeling completely relaxed and grateful for such an exceptional experience. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Yogyakarta and don’t miss breakfast or dinner at Paprika Restaurant!

I don't often leave reviews but this one warrants it. Straight in to my top 5 all time favourite cities - Yogyakarta - what a place and what a hotel to base your visit from. The hotel itself is a beautiful old Dutch colonial-era building, and the inside has been extensively decorated (I like to think reclaimed) in Javanese style. Think Batik art and clothing, intricately sculpted reliefs and ornate depictions of traditional Javanese village scenes. The room was to a similarly high standard, with plenty of space and a balcony overlooking the pool. The thoughtful touches carry on here where a bowl of local fruit awaited my arrival; I'd never tried snakefruit before! Other things I enjoyed without going on at length: the staff (couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful), the pool, the sauna (real Finnish style!), the breakfast (omelette station was a lifesaver for a bule like me 😉), walking distance to several malls, supermarket and warung. If I'm ever back in Jogja I will certainly be back to this hotel.

My stay at The Phoenix Hotel was an excellent experience from start to finish. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, and I really appreciated the welcome drink upon arrival. It was clear that the team strives for perfection — one of the staff members even personally checked whether the room was fully ready before I went up. The room itself was spotless, and the hotel’s facilities were all well maintained. The breakfast was extensive and very well organized, making it a great way to start each day. The pool area was beautifully situated, offering a relaxing atmosphere, and the building itself is absolutely stunning with its charming and elegant character. I enjoyed every moment. The Phoenix Hotel truly delivers a high-quality experience, and I would happily return.
