I had the Barbary duck breast, crushed new potatoes, green beans & blackberry red wine sauce which was delicious! And my friend had the Mussels as a main. In our opinions the portion size did not reflect the price of the mussels. The portion was far smaller than anywhere else we’ve been and the butter for the bread was out of date (see photo!) We also brought our dog who was on a long lead and in no one’s way but who I can only assume to be the manager told us quite aggressively to keep an eye on our dog. We moved outside to eat as we didn’t like the atmosphere inside. The garden was spacious but there were kids running around everywhere, they were in the flower beds pulling up the flowers and kicking up the grass. Not to mention we struggled to find a table that pigeons hadn’t been near (see photos!) Shame really because my dish was lovely.

After nearly a month holidaying in England, this was our best dining experience for quality of food & genuine hospitality, unexpectedly found in an authentic traditional small pub with large atmosphere & sensational staff. Magnificent starters of whitebait & prawns followed by main of lamb rump perfectly cooked. Truly worthy of its reputation as a “GASTRO-PUB”, P.S: should try their “Neck-Oil IPA” - Thankyou Mike, Georgina, Sarah-Jane & Poppy 👏👏

After fourty years since I last visited this public house, I popped in whilst returning from a business trip. Still had its open wood fire with leather soft chairs in front of the fire. Has very clean gentlemens toilet. There is ample parking, but beware if been raining a lot for the puddles, whic you get everywhere. Food quality and service was off the scale. As a Food and Drink Critic, as my daytime job, this coment does not come lightly... 5* all round.

Came to Phoenix with my daughter for steak night! Absolutely delicious food! Tender steak fresh salad crisp frites! Great value! Waitress Shannon was so attentive ! Just a lovely evening! Thankyou🩶

Fabulous pub with incredible food and great service from start to finish. We were a party of 5 and everyone of us was delighted with our meal. We will be back!

This pub is a little germ. We had the best fish and chip ever. The sticky toffee pudding with custard is amazing as well.

Had a lovely meal here, maybe a little posh for my liking but was definitely a treat!! The staff were kind and attentive. The atmosphere relaxed and food delicious.

Fantastic pub with a great variety of food and always tastes so fresh! Super Sunday roasts also the best in the area and the staff are always welcoming and friendly. Love coming here when we can!

Sensational food and service. Fantastic atmosphere and wonderful surroundings. Lovely touches throughout, including sun cream and hats for the garden and individual hand towels in the bathrooms. Deserved winner of the accolades they have and must be a contender for one of the best pubs in the country. Booking is advisable if partaking in their delectable roasts.

Lovely looking pub in the main road as you go in to hartney witney (from hook way) huge beer garden round the back of pub and lots of benches to sit at. Inside the pub is cosy and traditional looking, clean and tidy looking with amusing artifacts on walls and ledges. The restaurant area is large and quite packed with tables, clean and tidy as well though. Found it not very child friendly as no highchairs at all when we visited! modern menu and wide choice of food, quite pricey but lovely food and good portions. staff and cheery and freindly with a willing to help attitude.

Called in here a bit by chance as we were passing by and just noticed thispub tucked away from the road. We had some bar food in the restaurant and were very impressed with the quality of the food. The service was a bit hit and miss however but the staff were young and probably new. Had three course and they were all high quality and nicely presented. The wine was reasonably priced as was the food. Would recommend.

Another one of my locals. This is one of the nicest pubs in the Hartley Wintney area. It is tucked away behind the service station on the A30, so look out for it. I have always had excellent service, good food and drink, all in comfortable, very pleasant surroundings. It is a little out of the village, which makes it better for those of us who live at this end! Well worth a visit.

Great pub - shame it's not closer to the centre of the village. We went for dinner and a few drinks and the staff were lovely. Food is good value and good sized portions. There's a garden out the back and plenty of parking in the front providing you don't go when the local classic cars club are there! Prices are are fair for the area and there's plenty of tables inside.

Went with a couple of friends, never been there before, food was excellent and the service was superb. Good quality food at pub prices. Would definately recommend
