On the Grid : Pie Commission

"Pie Commission began as a small outpost in Etobicoke, but their 5 inch savoury pies became so popular that they opened a downtown location. All pies are made from scratch, in-house using natural ingredients. Their buttery and flakey pie crust is out of this world, but the secret prize are their fries. Pair it with a brew and you are good to go. They are also vegetarian friendly and have at least two options for those who opt out of eating meat. If you don’t feel like indulging in some savoury goodness, you can always pick up one of their dessert pies and head to Trinity Bellwoods Park for a picnic." - Sovereign State

Google
5 stars for their butter tarts. The Pie Commission is a bakery offering a selection of pies, tarts, and some frozen items to take home. While I typically get my treats to go, they do have a couple of booths for those who want to enjoy their goodies hot on-site. The standout items here are their Butter Tarts – they're absolutely delicious (especially if you have a sweet tooth). Each bite is rich, buttery, and perfectly flaky, living up to its reputation. In fact, their Butter Tarts won Best in Show at the 2024 Ontario Butter Tart Festival! As for the pies, I found them to be just okay. While I do appreciate the personal size and love the buttery, flaky crust, the fillings didn’t always hit the mark for me – they can be a bit hit or miss. The staff here were friendly and welcoming. Parking is limited with only a few spots available outside, and unfortunately, the shop is not wheelchair accessible.

Updated review below**. I’m going to start off by saying I used to be a huge fan of this place, but I stopped going here for a while because I found that the pies were not up to the original standard and the prices went up and the value wasn’t there anymore. This week I couldn’t help myself and I went back and bought some frozen pies to bake later. When I opened the box at home I noticed that the quality has fallen even further, the pie lids were not even on center or completely loose off the pie. The amount of filling has also declined. Then to top it all off, when I baked my pie, it was stuck to the bottom of the aluminum tray, and totally fell apart when I tried to remove it. I can’t believe I paid over $80 for 4 frozen pies and 4 frozen sausage rolls. I guess the jokes on me!!!! Unfortunately The Pie Commission lost a long time customer. ** I am writing an updated of the review I left above. I was contacted by the pie commission and they wanted to make it right. And they did. They gave me an explanation why the pies I ordered previously were not up to standard. I understand their reasons, but for that reason I can’t give them a 5/5 until they address that issue. But I did get to try some other pies like the meatball and the peppercorn chuck pies and they were on point. I will go back for those!!! The customer service is 5/5, they obviously care about their customers because they reached out personally.

This was my first trip to The Pie Commission. This speciality bakery offers buttery and flaky pies, sausage roll, and a variety of butter tarts. There are frozen pies that are cheaper to purchase in a multiple pack of four. The oven had newly baked pies that I inquired about when I didn't see the one I wanted. The seating is comfortable as it offers booths. The pie shell is hearty and thick. The chicken and mushroom pie was filled with carrot, peas, mushroom, and bite-sized morsels of white chicken. There is enough moisture in the pie for it to be enjoyable and not dry. Some of the other pies I would love to try include braised beef rib and butter chicken. I will visit this location soon.

Having enjoyed a meat pie purchased from the retail store last year I was happy to see a selection of pies being sold in the supermarket. I purchased the Tourtiere meat pie looking forward to a delicious dinner. Unfortunately the pie was bland and tasteless and the bottom layer was soggy. Very disappointed.

Google
This delightful little pie shop is a cozy gem with plenty of parking, making it a perfect spot for a quick treat or a leisurely visit. The Pecan Butter Tart is nothing short of spectacular — the crust is irresistibly buttery and flaky, while the filling is decadently nutty with just the right touch of sweetness. The Braised Beef Pie is a savory masterpiece, with juicy, tender beef wrapped in a perfect, golden crust. Each bite is a burst of flavor. I’m already looking forward to my next visit to explore even more of their mouthwatering pies!

Google
Nice pies. Definitely recommend. I didn't know they're even there if I didn't see a sign on the Queensway. It worked! Parking can be tight. Nice buttery crust for their pies. Not all flavors are a win. You may also have to wait a while for a warm, ready to eat one. Beef and beer wasn't great. Braised beef was good. Chicken was good. Cheesecake was good too. The real winner is the apple pie. They are pricey at about $8-11 per 5" pie. The more you get, you save.

Google
Great pies, but I get mine delivered and they are delicious, not all of them but most. I love their coconut custard pie and their butter tarts. The reason for the deduction in rating/stars are the god awful recommended cooking times. I use my air fryer to heat them up from frozen and baked them based on their recommendations, after burning a few, I had to completely readjust the settings so the pies were not overcooked or undercooked.

Google
The BEST pastry, fillings are so flavourful, but let me say again - the BEST pastry I’ve ever had. Savoury pies are amazing. This time I also tried the butter tarts. Should not be missed!!

Yelp
I have been looking for a good pie place for a while. The pies from The Pie Commission were delicious! They also keep well, the pies are available freshly baked, unbaked or frozen to be baked at home. We tried the frozen to bake at home and the crust came out incredible! Recommend this to anyone craving some savory pies!

Yelp
I went at the end of the day so there weren't a lot of hot pies to choose from. I got the braised beef rib and while I thought the texture was a little too soft and could have used a bit more veg and salt, the crust more than made up for anything lacking in the filling. (The dessert pie in the picture is a pecan butter tart. Too full to even give it a nibble.)

Yelp
It was Pi day (3/14) and I needed something thematic to make the occasion feel right. The Pie Commission was nearby and they have both savory and sweet pies! There are traditional meat pies (chicken pot pie, beef and ale), ones that have a unique twist (jerk chicken, pulled pork), and a rotating selection of dessert ones. If you buy 4 pies, you save $2 and this deal is available both in store and online. It's automatically applied online. I ordered 3 of the Beef 'N Beer pies and one Cinnamon Apple Pie. When you're ordering online you can get them frozen and unbaked or hot and ready. I opted to get mine frozen. When we got there the pies were all boxed up and ready to go. The box that it came in was like a small/medium sized pizza box. The reheating instructions were printed on the top of the box. They also have them online for easy access as well. The crust on the pie was amazing! Flaky and delicious. We followed the reheating instructions to the letter and it was perfect. Would be happy to come back and try their pies fresh next time.

Yelp
Ok so I've been going here for a loooong time. If I had to deep dish... See what I did there? I'd have to say they're the best meat pies in the west. They do run out so make sure to get there early. But don't worry they have a good assortment of frozen you can always take yours to go.

Yelp
I don't know for sure, but I think what makes their pies so good is butter. Lots and lots of butter. And who doesn't like butter?!?! Flaky and buttery pies, what else can you ask for? Lots of options to choose from. Friendly and quick service. A little on the pricey side, but it's well worth it. Standouts at least for me are the butter chicken pie and the coconut dessert pie. Must try!

Yelp
Make every day a pie-day by ordering frozen pies from @thepiecommission! They're currently doing FREE delivery when you purchase a minimum of 8 pies (within a certain area as listed on their site). Trust me, after trying their pies for the first time, I genuinely considered getting a second freezer just to stock up on their pie-inventory to get through COVID -Chicken Cheddar Bacon Mash Pie $8.95 I am prepared to do whatever it takes to get this pie back into their regular rotation, including, but not limited to sliding into their DMs politely and asking if that's possible! I am not exaggerating when I say that this pie is everything I could have wanted and more . The pie pastry is very flaky and buttery, just what you expect from a pie but somehow theirs tastes amazing just by itself? I'm still trying to wrap my head around how they made these pies without wizardry... When you get your spoon into the pie, you'll notice a giant serving of cheddar layered right over the rest of the delectable pie filling! Man, just describing the pie is making me want another one already. Lastly, their main man, Trent, is the lovely man who gets the pies from their location to our homes! Big shout out to him for delivering happiness right to our doorsteps with kindness and smiles

Yelp
Last week, my intern and I were discussing bakeries around Mississauga, mainly because I had brought in gourmet cookies and cupcakes from Markham to work. We wanted to try a bakery in Mississauga. Instead, we stumbled upon The Pie Commission and drooled over both its sweet and savoury pies. Our colleague and my friend came over. At first, we had the Square One location on our minds. She advised that the original is in Etobicoke. My intern and I decided to have lunch here on Friday. As many reviewers have noted, this pie shop is not on The Queensway. We were guided by my Waze app. We got here and couldn't find it. It was a combination of his sharp eyes noticing a sign saying that the shop had moved and my turning around that we found its new location. It's just south of The Queensway, on the east side of Canmotor Avenue, where Queen Elizabeth Boulevard meets Canmotor. I nabbed a prime spot in front of the cafe. It looks like half of it will be used for head office stuff. It was still under construction. We just happened to come on re-opening day. Yay, us! There were black and white balloons outside and in the pie shop. There were clearly new black booths with brown wooden tables. We arrived just before noon. I ordered the chicken mushroom pie. I got poutine as a side and also a canned drink. My meal was a smidge over $20. It's not cheap, as the pie itself is $8.95. My intern got the steak and cheese pie. He got a bottled water and also went with poutine. We are huge poutine fans. We choose a booth. It didn't take long for my meal to come out, except that the woman said, "Chicken cheddar bacon mash." I looked at her and pointed out that I had ordered the chicken mushroom pie. She went looking for one everywhere in the display counter, by the oven,... everywhere! It figures that the pie that I wanted wasn't made. She apologized. I said that I'd give the chicken cheddar bacon mash a try. She let me know that there was mushroom in it. Perfect! Things always work out in the end. I feel that I am guiding my intern at work, but also when it comes to food. He loves it. He got his beef and cheddar pie, and poutine a few minutes later. We both had a field day taking photos. It's nice that I am secretly making him a strong foodie! We hacked into our pies. We were each given a fork and a knife. OMG! The crust was so flaky and buttery. I normally hate pie crusts because they tend to be heavy and boring. This pie crust was to-die-for yummy. I ate it all. The filling in my pie was packed with chicken, bacon, cheddar, mushrooms, peas, mashed potatoes, and probably a ton more. It was delicious. The flavours were heavenly. It is worth the $8.95. The poutine was delicious. We got lots of gravy. There could have been more cheese curds, but I didn't mind what I had. It was a large side! We both agreed that next time (yes, we are planners), we'll get one order of poutine and split it between us. The pop varieties are amazing. I got a can of Dr Pepper vanilla float and it was awesome! I like having a float in a can. I want to go back just for this pop flavour. We had originally come here for a dessert pie. The problem was that we were in such a food coma that we couldn't down dessert. We'll be back again for more, now that we know how large the portions are. You can buy frozen pies to take home and bake in the oven. I may need to give that a try. It's such a gem of a pie find. I spy with my eye more pies from the Pie Commission. (390)

Yelp
Always wanted to try their pies and they happened to have a stall at the Distillery District Christmas Market this year! 3 options of classic, beef & peppercorn or porchetta, I chose the classic. Only takeouts, obviously. After tax, it came to $13, for a 6" pie. Little paper box with cute disclaimer "Caution: delicious pie inside". Meat was delicious and pastry was so buttery, perfect on a cold day with hungry stomachs. It's small but very filling! My only comment was that it's salty.

Yelp
OMG I can't believe I'm just reviewing The pie Commission now. We've been going here for years. Simply the best take-away savoury and dessert pies in the city. The crust is king. It is buttery, flaky and perfectly salted. It melts in your mouth. The dessert pie crusts have more of a satisfying chew to them. They have cool specials (if they're not sold out) and we haven't had a pie here we didn't like. And we've tried dozens. Their chicken mushroom pot pie is a solid standard. The vegilicious is the best vegetarian pie I've ever had. Chunks of vegetables and a nice tangy tomato sauce. You'll go wrong with none of these pies. They sell fresh and hot, or frozen. We usually stock up on frozen for a quick and easy meal at home. Delicious!

Yelp
OMG! This place makes my Fav Five Collection! I'm so happy that I didn't see the calorie count for these pies! The only reason that I went there was becauase of a Talk thread and Pie Commission comes up again and again! Now I know why. So good! Was it happenstance or serendipity that I found myself at PC? I was heading to a client and I thought I best get something to eat before getting there as it will be a very long day. Looked for places I haven't been and up pops PC. Probably been on the list over and over again but I assume PIE meant dessert stuff - never gave it a thought. Not this time. If you happen to go there, you can park in the parking lot or go down the side street and park in front of the place. I didn't know where it was until I saw a tiny sign that took be down a tight driveway to a bz and tiny lot. Walked into the place...it is a tiny place! Just enough space to change your mind and nothing else. I was confused and the gal told me that the menu is on the wall and I can have their pie baked, unbaked, or frozen. I opted to take the top three. The braised beef, butter chicken, and beef'n'beer. The braised beef was for now, the other two was frozen - they gave me baking instructions. The packaging is cute and I was wondering why a beef pie would not be on a plate...well...you can eat your pie like a beef patty. OH SO GOOD! Rich flaky buttery pastry holding in chunks of beef and gravy. Thank the Lord the other two were frozen or I might have gone over-glut and food coma'd out! Over the rest of the week, I did get to baking the other two. They baked perfectly from frozen. The butter chicken had a kick and I was not too excited about the beef'n'beer. 3 down and 4 more variety to go. I think there is a slight discount if you guy them unbaked and a quantity of 4. My stomach is Growling as I write this review. I guess I better get there sooner than later! CHEERS!

Yelp
Good pies but pricey for what your getting. They do have frozen that you can purchase and help

Yelp
It's pretty good. If you like pie, this place has plenty of options for you to try out. I haven't been in years though. Will change that this summer!

Yelp
Perfect crust, hot and ready to eat or frozen to cook later. You can't with anything you order here, you'll love it.

Yelp
Really nice pies, had the steak and stilton. Really flavourful with plenty of beef chunks. Their pie crusts are the best, absorbing all the juices. They have seating inside.

Yelp
Super pies. A great idea for dinner. Just make a salad. The jerk chicken pie was very spicey. I have tried others too and all were excellent. They have the pastry right!

Yelp
I loved this little bakery. All the pastries were handmade. Wanted to go back for more, didn't have enough time. There are many delicious flavors to choose from too!

Yelp
By far the FLAKIEST and I mean flakes-stuck-all-around-your-lips-as-well-as-all-over-your-lap level of flakiness pie that I've EVER had. The crust is so deliciously buttery, yet you can eat an entire pie by yourself without feeling guilt or too greasy because it's so light and flaky. Although located rather unfortunately far for me, I have no regrets having traveled all the way here to try this place out. I tried the braised beef rib pie and my boyfriend tried the coconut curry beef pie. Both were generously filled with soft, tender meat and marinated in delicious sauce. The fries were mediocre (would not order again) but I would definitely come back for their pies if I were in the area.

Yelp
We were gifted a 4 pack of pies recently and we were blown away by each one. I dont remember all of the one we got but there were 2 beef and 2 chicken. I felt the most delicious was the cheddar mashed potato pie. I remember it specifically because it was so yummy! We cant wait to go and try some of their other pies!

Yelp
Delicious pies that are consistently top quality. Most other meat pies in Toronto seem to vary wildly.

Yelp
Located just off of Queensway, the little pie shop is a hidden gem. There's parking around the shop, not just the store front which looks very limited. It has a cute patio front with limited seatings. Zero sitting inside. Very little standing room to order. They do have pie specials but they sell out quick on those. I wanted the Uncle Smokes Chicken Pot Pie but I had to settle for Pulled Pork, but it was just as good. Sweet and savoury, plus the delicious flaky pie crust. They average about $9 per pie, give or take. I also ordered four frozen pies to take home for the boyfriend: braised beef, beef n beer, butter chicken and pulled pork. He LOVES it. All together my total came up to $47 and change. The staff are very attentive and friendly, they know their products and double check your order with the kitchen just in case, the pie you want is sold out. The order comes out quick and efficient, didn't have to wait too long for the delicious meal. They accept all kind of payments besides Amex if I'm not mistaken. They also do catering and as well, delivery through them and or skip the dish. I'm sure there are other delivery methods but I did not see it as advertised.

Yelp
New crowned favorite for savory pies!! Congratulations to Pie Commission for ruining all future mediocre pies and delivering serious side-eye judgement on lesser reproductions. I had their signature Braised Beef Rib Pie, chunks of slow braised beef in a homemade veal stock with sweet potato and mushrooms. It was absolutely delicious to the last bite. Even when that last bite was a day later and reheated for a second meal. Don't be fancy with it. Just fold down the conveniently designed flaps and bite in. Be careful not to scorch yourself though because it's served piping-hot from the oven. The crust is seriously flaky. As in if-you-inhale-incorrectly-it-will-try-to-kill-you-level flaky. It's the perfect counterbalance to the densely packed savory innards. Really well flavored, not too salty and slightly sweet, with tender beef and chunks of sizable mushrooms to give a variation of texture. Writing this makes me want another one. The only inconvenience is that there isn't alot of seating in the winter time. Just a bar with four stools, so come in the summer to take advantage of the patio furniture or ferry it home asap to devour.

Yelp
I love nothing better than a good meat pie! But this is a GREAT meat pie! Order every Christmas Eve the tourtierre!

Yelp
Hmmm pies. They have a bit of everything to satisfy your savory and or sweet cravings. The pies are fortunately larger than I thought. The pulled pork was super good. Pork was nice and tender, while the BBQ sauce was not too sweet. This is definitely a pay for your food and go, not a dine-in. They also have short hours, so always look it up beforehand!

Yelp
935 the Queensway yes - but come around the block from Canmotor and the backend of the building via Queen Elizabeth to park and access the storefront from there and park there too. That is probably the only thing that will fool those who are directionally challenged. This is not a proper place to really eat as the counter is tiny and there's just stool seats inside (3) while the outside does have some places to sit down I'd imagine as the weather gets worse you may not want to eat out there. The parking is right in front but also off to the side as well being that this storefront does not face Queensway. The area in front of the storefront doesn't appear to be paved and could become muddy if it gets wet. The food is something a little different. I love pies and yet I'm not a dessert person so go figure. While they have pies hot for the ready to eat savory as well as sweet ones on display their other offering is take home frozen pies which run roughly 7.50 a piece. A 4 pack box will cost about 30 bucks give or take as their seems to be a surcharge for braised beef pies of 50 cents more. These products are great and the pies are 7.50 for a reason and if I had to answer that it's because you can create a market for people willing to pay 7.50 for 5" pot pies because they taste oh so good. These are NOT Swanson frozen pies these are much better and are completely in a different league. The crust is light and flaky and the insides or oh so tasty. We came rather late and much had been sold out but we did manage to get 2 braised beef and one seasonal one with pork and squash. I had ordered 2 each of braised beef and beef and beer frozen to take home. The cards there have the baking instructions and it doesn't seem that hard to make. For a really good frozen why not try these instead of your typical grocery store preservative ridden frozen food? Yes they take a long to make but it's worth it. The baking of the crust is not something that you can compromise by trying to microwave it. It would be the difference of trying to boil something that is intended to be fried... just not the same. If I could wish something I would wish 2 things actually. One would be that they have a way of actually identifying what pies are what when you order them whether it be take out hot and ready or take home. The pies all look the same so we couldn't tell them apart. For the frozen ones that's another issue since there is no breaking them apart because they are frozen solid. A way to tell what is what would help. Another wish list item would be for the frozen pies to be sealed or bagged. I don't mind doing it myself but it's not like we can just take the box and throw it in the freezer like that exposed. Besides those wish list items the food here is fantastic and I look forward to cooking a few at home on a day that it doesn't look favorable to go outside - this is probably as close to perfect comfort food that's not chicken noodle soup.

Yelp
I miss them when we moved away from Etobicoke to the east end. Great pies, fresh cut chips. Outstanding stuff. Will have to go back for a visit soon.

Yelp
I decided to give this place a shot after getting a haircut nearby and needed to kill some time. I haven't had many meat pies so this field was very new for me. They had great outdoor and on a cool sunny day like today, it was very pleasant to sit outside. The staff was very pleasant and helpful in guiding me through the menu and offering suggestions. I went with the suggestion of the cashier, which I was eyeing myself on the menu. It was the "Butter Chicken" pie which had a coconut milk based curry, with chicken and chickpeas inside. SO full over flavor!!! The crust of the actual pie was perfect. Soft, flaky, and really well done. The filling was delicious with a great strong flavor. They provide a fork and knife if eating with your hands is becoming a little overwhelming. They also have dessert pies, as well as homemade cookies for dessert. I had the Oreo cookie, which was so good! I couldn't finish it because the meat pie was shockingly filling, but it was definitely a. Ice spot for a quick bite and to just enjoy the sun.

Yelp
Whoa this place is good. Listen to the reviews. The thing about pie, is that love is of paramount importance as far as ingredients go. And I taste the love. I have never had a pie here that I felt they skimped out on. I've traversed the Gardiner from the east end to eat here. Excellent pies make for a worthy incentive. Can't wait to explore other pie options. I would rate them a solid 4/5 for food but since their packaging is cool and eco-friendly... +1 star for packaging, bringing them to a whopping 5/5 in my books.

Yelp
Delish at least the traditional ones are solid. Good crust. Well made with tasty ingrediants

Yelp
WOW ... I did not expect meat pies this delicious from OUR side of the Atlantic. I have been fortunate to be in London a few times to experience the real deal. So my expectations were a tad high (or possibly unreasonably high) but wow, did Pie Commission ever do it justice and then some! Do you like amazing flavours, tender chunks of meat or vegetables, the flakiest and butteriest crust, and eating incredible food for less than $10? THIS IS YOUR PLACE...sorry, I'm that excited. A note for everyone who has never been here before... I was utterly confused to find this place at first. I turned off from Queensway into a L shaped parking lot and was completely confused on where the storefront is. The actual door and storefront is facing AWAY from Queensway, it is down the stairs from the parking lot and literally on the south wall of the building. This place is mostly a take away place but in the summer, there are two picnic tables and a few Muskoka chairs you can sit on and enjoy. Inside is a small but clean storefront with big clear menus and a peak of the sweets and savouries to devour. And when I mean devour... once you try it, you'll agree. I love the fact that all pies are less than $9 and for a combo, easily under $13. For a phenomenal and filling meal, It's unheard of in Toronto. We got the combos... butter chicken, beer and beef, and pulled pork. We got the salad to go with it. I know ... wha salad? But if you have taste buds and like vegetables, the vinaigrette is laced with some magic. Butter crust... yes I'm writing about the crust alone cause it's that deserving. How many times you've had pie where you bit into it and its a soggy mush or its flavourless cause it has shortening or its overbaked so its a concrete slab. Well, let Pie Commission enlighten you on how amazing crust can be. This one is so flakey, buttery (you actually smell the butter and it totally melts on your tongue), crispy light that it shatters as you bite right into it (sorry, was I supposed to use a fork instead of digging straight in?), and they bake it so its a nice deep caramel so the flavours are wonderfully enhanced. Yes.. they do pie crust right here. Butter chicken .. I was surprised on how good it was. Seeing I just came from Pukka, I had a great rendition there and I would say Pie Commission is almost as good. There's no heat or nuanced spicing but it was still amazing. Its like an excellent home cooked curry done by someone's grandmother. Big chunks of chicken and plenty of it with lots of chick peas and vegetables. All wrapped in a lot of smooth curry sauce. Definite winner Beef and Beer ... Another excellent one pie. Oh god, the sauce is so good. You can taste the full flavour of the beef and beer. Just an excellent pairing plus the onions just add to the flavour. It was so good and the gravy... just made kept everything so tender and moist. Can't go wrong with this one. Salad side... I know, what is so damn exciting about leafy greens. Well, the vinaigrette ... if you love a dressing that completely turns vegetables exciting. I would recommend to try. It is incredibly unusual as it is sweet, tart, and sour. But the sweetness hits you first and then all the flavours jump in. Coconut pie... To be continued. I'm eating it tonight! I would report on the Pulled Pork but someone didnt want to share cause it was that too good. Really! It doesnt open too late into the night so if you're wanting a pie for dinner, come in earlier so you dont leave disappointed if you want to eat one right there. When we went, they only had half their selection and selling out soooo quickly. About 10 other customers there popped in and grabbed their pies to go in less than 20 minutes. And everyone often left with more than 3 or 4 boxes. For those who like to eat much later, grab a few of the frozen pies to go... yes thats right! You can indulge in these amazing pies at home fresh by buying the pies frozen and baking it in your own oven. They even offer a discount for 4+ pies! Overall, I'll keep coming back to try all the flavours and also the seasonal selection. Just delicious!

This place is delicious! We stumbled across it via the Toronto Yelpers and I like to go whenever I'm in town shopping at IKEA because it's close! It's hard to find, especially when you're not from the area, as it's actually around the back of a bunch of stores but it's worth it. They are basically deep dish pot pies with assorted ingredients inside. I love the pot roast one and the crust is so buttery, crispy, and perfect. I wish I lived closer so I could go more often! A lot of pot pies are prepared in advance, sort of like pizza slices at pizza joints, but be prepared to take it to go as there is no seating inside, just a few tables outside when the weather is nice.

Yelp
Hidden away just off of Queensway - this little pie shop is a hidden gem. Minimal parking spaces. A little patio set. No seating area within the shop. The pie commission has variation of different type of pies. It is so hard to pick just one! They average about $9 per pie, give or take. You can also order frozen pies to go. The staff are very attentive and friendly. You get your food super quick. They take cash, debit and credit besides Amex I believe. They also do catering. They are also on Ritual a pick-up app to skip the line. Sign up with this link for up to $10 credit: https://invite.ritual.co/JANET71442 Order with SkipTheDishes! Yelp
I have never actually been to their venue, but I have had their pies many times. When we go up to our friends' cottage in the summer, they often bring a haul of their pies with them and leave them in the freezer and then serve them for a nice light dinner. I've had every flavor I think, except for the vegetarian one. I like them enough that when I was on my own during the winter holidays, I found that they have delivery to the hotel I was staying at. I made an order, and received a nice, tasty hot pie. They packaged the delivery really well, and I was very happy! If I lived in Toronto, I'd probably have a freezer full of their pies, too! A+++

Yelp
This is a must try! Its oh so familiar but still unique! Super delicious, flavourful and affordable! The place is small but clean &organized. Not much dining space but the have considerable picnic-style seating outdoors. We were having a party however and opted to get pies to go. Also the staff were all very friendly and helpful, no complaints with the service! For takeout, the pies come in this really cool box containing a pie and a side! They had salad, fries, and coleslaw. Unfortunately we left them in the box for too long and the fries were kind of soggy so I can't do much of a review on that. But the salad was fancyyy. Wasn't just your basic lettuce and tomato. It also had kale, spinach and carrots in it. The salad dressing was a bit weird though. It was really thick and garlicy, more akin to a dip. THE PIES. We had quite a few people at our party so we pretty much got every flavor there at the time. Braised beef, beef n beer, butter chicken, pulled pork, shepherds pie. And I think i'm missing one more. But anywho, the fillings were all great. Flavourful but probably on the more bland side just because they needed to be less liquid for the pie. The pie CRUST however made up for this. This has got to be one of the, if not the BEST PIE CRUSTS I've ever had. So flaky and buttery. This same deliciousness translated so well when we got to dessert time. Aside front he savoury pies we also got 3 dessert pies. Pumpkin, coconut, and a blueberry mango. While they're all so so good, my favorite has to be the blueberry mango. Very rich in flavour, the granola at the top also gave it an extra delicious dimension, and I personally really like a bit of tanginess. So was it worth it? YES. The pies might look small but they're actually very filling, I could barely finish my side! So for about $10 I don't think I could ask for more. I believe they also have seasonal flavours so I definitely look forward to trying out some new pies!

Yelp
Amazing savoury pies. I havent had any of their sweet ones but they also look equally incredible. The vegilicious pie is my absolute favourite even though I'm not a vegetarian! The braised beef is also amazing. I usually make a stop here when going to the nearby ikea or Costco to stock up on frozen pies, and then end up eating them all in a week because they're so good. Also if they sold bottles of their balsamic salad dressing I would absolutely buy it because it's delicious.

Yelp
The pies are good. I really enjoy the beef. I have used them at a birthday party and everyone enjoyed them. The meatless ones are also good. If you enjoy this type of food then I would give it a try.

Yelp
My friend and I were looking for a place to grab a quick dinner before a movie and were disappointed to see most decent places were closed on a Monday ! Luckily we found the pie commission. We both had the braised beef which was absolutely delicious. Pastry was melt in your mouth and very flaky. This place was super hard to find ! Turn onto canmotor ave and the parking spaces are labelled. You'll find it in the little alley way if you walk west from the parking lot. Good luck !

Yelp
The pie commission is known in Etobicoke and I finally gave in and tried it. It was great. Recommend all of them. We ordered a few for our family and it is worth every cent. Loved Chicken mushroom pie. Braised beef was hefty and definitely sticks to bones. Butter Chicken was actually pretty good. Staff are lovely and friendly and the place is clean.

Yelp
I REALLY wanted to love this place. I love pot pies and stuff so I thought why not try a place like this? I am from out of town so we drove out of our way to try this place. I didn't know thy closed at 6 on a Saturday (which makes NO sense, it's a Saturday) and we went at about 5:40. They were out of everything but 2 or 3 kinds of pies. I'm not a fan of beef and that's really all they had left so after driving all that way to try some, I didn't even get to try a pie. I will say that my husband really liked his and I did try his fries- they were good! I sampled his pie too and I will say I can see how people would love it. I feel bad giving them only 3 stars but when they were out of so many things how can I give them more for not even being able to get a pie? And again, why do they close so early on a Saturday? Don't let this review discourage you, obviously from the reviews it is a great place. Just be warned and don't make the same mistakes I did nor you won't have a good experience. Also please not that there are exactly 3 seats inside and a little counter. This is not a sit down place. You can order frozen pies to go and bake at home and it seems like that is where most of their business is.

Yelp
Stouffer's has nothing on The Pie Commission! Take everything that you remember from your childhood, re: meal option when your mom hasn't cooked, uni staples, etc., burn, then bury them. Location: Around back of a block of retail stores, including Delux Paints and some hair salon. Just east of Islington. When you see the sign "PIE", pull in OR go south of Canmotor to access the parking lot. Menu: There are only a few staple pies on the menu, but plenty of specials, including soups, sides, and even a coupla desserts. Ordered: Braised Beef ($7.45) & Butter Chicken Pies ($6.95) with a side of fries ($2.95). Fries are chip truck quality and therefore, yummy, and an absolute MUST if you even have the slightest craving from fries! I only had a coupla nibbles of the Braised Beef, but I think I preferred the Butter Chicken. Crust was delicious, buttery, & flaky! I think both pies could have used a tad more salt, but had good flavour. I remember The Pie Guyz having a better Butter Chicken filling, but then again, the owners there are Indian, so...crust at Pie Commission was flakier. Great stop for a snack/in between/heavier lunch/lighter dinner-type meal. Obviously not for those on a health kick! ;) Tip: Primarily takeout as there is only a few stools with a counter to eat at.

Yelp
My first time trying their pies and I was not disappointed! Had the pleasure of trying their braised beef rib pie. Delicious buttery crust with a flavourful and tender beef filling. Don't let the size of the pie fool you, I thought I wouldn't be full when I first opened up the box, but it is quite filling once you start digging in.

Yelp
First time at this place and it was definitely an experience to remember. My girlfriend and I got 4 pies, 2 Braised beef pies, steak and cheese and the lamb shank, also the chocolate pie, oh and also a small fries and poutine and some drinks... a nice Saturday evening dinner. It's pretty awesome how you can also get the pies frozen and bring them home to warm up at your own home if your ever feeling the need for some meat pies. We ordered the ones that were already baked, and ready to go. You can also make your own pies which would take about 30 mins but who really got time for that unless you order on the phone. Now to the pies, The lady who helped us said the braised beef and the steak and cheese were there best sellers, so I would put the steak and cheese #1 definitely has a different taste and texture, the braised beef, which is thick and meaty, and the lamb shank I guess it really depends how your feeling, the lamb shank definitely has that savoury taste and it's a meal on its own The price point isn't that bad if you really think of it, if the pies were a bit bigger they would go for $10 all day but for 8.95 to 9$ it's not bad... unless you smash two pies and then your wallet will definitely feel it each time The French fries, are great fresh, but once it's over an hour... there straight to the garbage. There handout fries so it wouldn't be the best of the best, the gravy is made in house and it's nice rich and thick. Would we come back? Probably next week!

Yelp
The address is 935 The Queensway but you won't see this along the Queensway because it is at the back of the building. This place is not really a dine in place. There is 1 table, 3 stools inside and a table outside with beach chairs. We had the pie of the day Steak and cheese pie and the Butter Chicken pie. Serving size is individual size, good enough to fill me up. The pie is flaky. Butter chicken has a hint of spiciness. Personally, I liked the Steak and Cheese pie better than the Butter Chicken. You could get side orders of Coleslaw, hand cut fries, or salad. We tried the chocolate cherry milkshake. I believe this is just a summer special because it says on the sign, last day today. Generous whip cream topping. I like it but could only enjoy a few sips because it's too sweet for me. The place is busy for take outs. From the time we walked in until we finished our 2 pies in about 30 mins, the place was never out of customers. I didn't have time for dessert but the dessert pies looks good. Would definitely come back.

Yelp
Never come across great meat pies like this anywhere. Irish pubs should outsource here.

Yelp
We bought a handful of pies to sample. You take them home, you heat them up! There was nothing wrong with them, but there also wasnt much to make it memorable/stand out from the competition. It would be nice if they spilled a little more seasoning in their pies.

Yelp
Been a customer since day one. Almost 4 years. Went today took home a 4 pack special taco and cheese X2, steak and Cheese and beef and beer. A lemon mirangue desert pie. Always friendly service. They know my name. Lol. Great place

Yelp
Tried the braised beef ribs, beer n beef, butter chicken, and toffee tart. Liked the traditional pies, and toffee tart was good. However a little pricey for a 5 inch pie.

Yelp
Great option for dinner. Tastes like a gourmet dinner and like home made. Yes, this is more money per pie than the mass manufactured equivalent at a grocery store, but wow, worth every penny!

Yelp
This is as good as it gets. Everything about this place is just perfect. The food is out of this world and the service is always amazing. The sweet ladies working there always have a huge smile and are always ready to guide you through the menu selection. I usually order their limited time offerings but their regular menu is solid too. I shared the steak and cheese pie and the pulled pork pie with a friend (best way to enjoy more than one flavor). The steak and cheese pie was really good but the star of the show was the pulled pork pie. The crust is just too good. The filling was really flavorful as well. Overall, I would recommend this place to everyone because hey, who doesn't like a proper pie?

Yelp
Delicious pies of all types. They're great to have in reserve for this days you don't want to cook.
