THE PIG-at Combe

My husband and I stayed for a short break at The Pig at Combe in May 2025. We requested a quiet room and were put in the stable block away from the main house. Our room was an accessible room. It would be a great option for anyone with mobility issues as the room was all on one level with no steps or gradients. However it’s probably best to note that the approach to the room is an uneven cobblestone courtyard. The room had a split en-suite with a large walk-in shower (with optional pull down seat) on one side and a separate loo on the other. Both rooms had sinks. There was no air conditioning but an oscillating fan was provided. The room we were in also had a stable door so we were able to leave the top part open if we wanted a breeze on a hot afternoon. We enjoyed both a dinner and breakfasts in the hotel restaurant. The food was all local and delicious. The staff were all warm, relaxed and polite. The surrounding views were beautiful and we even met some ponies. A lovely calm restorative place to stay.

Our family live locally and we have visited the Pig at Combe countless times over the years. It's our favourite place to take guests and we have never once been disappointed. The most fantastic location, gorgeous 'shabby chic' interiors, and outstanding service from the lovely smiling team and especially Will, who has treated our family with unbelievable kindness and hospitality. The vibe is relaxed, friendly and courteous. Log fires in winter and stunning gardens in summer... and all of this is before we have even mentioned the food, which is unfailingly excellent. Almost everything on the menu comes from within 25 miles and much of the veg and fruit is produced in their immaculate gardens. You would think that food of this standard would be super pricey, but the prices are very reasonable. We can't praise this place enough - it is a model of excellence. A fun and chilled way to spend a day or a couple of nights.

W stayed here for 3 nights in mid October. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was spacious and well equipped .The antique mirror on the wall which was actually a TV was novel. The bar was nice with a big fire and huge selection of drinks. We ate at the hotel in the evening and worked our way through the various menu options over the 3 days. All the individual courses were well prepared with quality ingredients. Nearly forgot breakfast was wonderful.|Staff were all attentive and professional.|We would definitely visit the Pig Brand again.

We ate a wonderful cheese platter and had the best local Pinot Noir in summer hence dedicated to go back. We went there to celebrate my birthday. The location is stunning. Gorgeous, idyllic, quirky place. However, we're both very disappointed with the food. Rubbery monkfish, which couldn't be cut with a knife, smelly (definitely not fresh and local) mackerel and overcooked lamb chop. Very strange and limited dessert menu but lovely wine wine selection, and quite attentive stuff. No place is perfect and I'm quite demanding, having eaten some spectacular food in my life, but for £70 per head just for food, I will definitely expect more.

Honestly, it was the most wonderful weekend.||My husband and I booked a couples’ break — two nights on the Veg & Stay offer — and we had such an amazing time together.||Even though the weather wasn’t great, the hotel felt incredibly festive and cosy. The food was absolutely stunning, both in the main restaurant and in The Folly. We loved relaxing in the bar area, with the fire roaring and delicious cocktails in hand.||The staff were truly incredible. From the reception team to the bar staff to the restaurant crew, everyone was so warm, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. Nothing was ever too much trouble.||Our room in the Stables was beautiful — modern appliances, lovely Bramley products, a huge bath, and great tea and coffee. It felt like such a treat.||We loved the thoughtful touches too, like the wellies available for country walks and the pre-planned routes that made exploring so easy and enjoyable.||The Potting Shed massages were fantastic. Both my husband and I left feeling so relaxed and impressed.||One of the best parts was how straightforward the Veg & Stay package was. No hidden extras or restrictions — it included breakfast and dinner exactly as promised. We only paid for our wine and other drinks. The chateaubriand is a must-try.||We’re already talking about which Pig to visit next — and we can’t wait to return!

A stunning property in an idyllic location and that’s just the start. From the GM Chris through the whole staff, there is a professional, welcoming, can-do approach….the perfect balance without being obsequious or over the top! The food at each meal is wonderful and to look forward to and the tour of the kitchen garden is well worth doing with knowledgeable and accessible leadership. Group sommelier, Luke, ran the wine course which was informative, useful and fun with excellent wines to illustrate the key elements and varieties in scope. We shall return as soon as possible and with much enthusiastic anticipation! Thank you to everyone there!

I took my partner here for the recently introduced afternoon tea as a birthday treat. Everything about the experience was superb - the welcome, the atmosphere, the food, and particularly the service we had from Alaya. She was so friendly and professional she absolutely made our afternoon. Would highly recommend to anyone considering it, you won't be disappointed.

The Pig at Combe has always been one of those truly special places for my wife and me. From the moment you arrive, you feel incredibly fortunate that somewhere like this exists — and even more fortunate to be able to experience it. The Elizabethan mansion itself is absolutely breathtaking. The architecture, the history, and the way it’s been preserved and presented create an atmosphere that is both grand and deeply relaxing at the same time. The grounds are equally stunning — immaculately kept, peaceful, and perfect for walking and switching off completely. The food is simply outstanding. Every meal bar one steak we’ve had there has been exceptional — thoughtful, beautifully presented, and genuinely memorable. It’s the kind of dining experience you look forward to long before you arrive and continue thinking about long afterwards. What makes Packet Combe even more meaningful to us is a very personal memory. We actually went there when my wife was in very early labour, because we knew it was a place where she felt calm, happy, and relaxed. We hoped the peaceful surroundings would help her stay comfortable and allow her to have a bath and rest. The team were incredibly accommodating, kind, and discreet, and made what could have been a stressful moment feel calm and special. We will never forget their understanding and support during such an important time in our lives, and we can’t thank them enough. And delighted to say we did indeed have a success birth of a little girl the next day. 😁 The service is always warm, professional, and attentive without ever being overbearing. They make you feel welcome, comfortable, and genuinely cared for throughout your stay. It is, without question, our favourite hotel in the world. Places like Packet Combe are incredibly rare — a perfect combination of history, beauty, hospitality, and atmosphere. We feel very lucky to have it so close, and every visit feels like a privilege.

Went again last week, place, service and ambience was still brilliant, however the meals we chose were both great and tasty we both struggled to order, we found that the menu wasn't that meat friendly!! More vegetarian options and it for what it was was pricey seeing though they grow it in their own gardens. Would still recommend going as a special occasion but save up first!!

Another absolute gem for the Pig franchise and the newest addition to the chain of Pig hotels. Having already stayed at the Pig near Bath and loved it so much we were worried that the newest Pig might not live up to our high expectations but it did not disappoint. We were lucky to get a comfy luxe room in the converted stable yard away from the main house. The conversion has been done beautifully, keeping quirky details from the original stables the rooms surround a beautiful peaceful courtyard which we very much enjoyed sitting in enjoying a cup of tea. The room was also gorgeous with a four poster bed, SMEG fridge, Nespresso machine, fully stocked (albeit pricey) larder and the most incredible monsoon shower. All of the Pigs operate a 25 mile menu, meaning that they grow and source all of the food served within a 25 mile radius. The gardens where they grow herbs, fruits and vegetables can all be explored by guests and are truly beautiful, I found something I just had to take a picture of around every corner! The food we had was all excellent, breakfast, lunch and dinner! I am also obsessed with the applemint mocktail, so refreshing! The service and attention to detail really was amazing, they were aware of and remembered each time I ordered that I had a dairy allergy and always helpful in amending items on the menu for me. When I was too unwell one morning to make it to breakfast but they hadn't yet started serving lunch one of the members of staff kindly found us some complimentary tea and cakes to munch on. We were also super happy when room service restocked the in room tea bags that they put in extra of the type we had been using. Finally don't go and not take advantage of the potting shed treatment rooms, two sheds have been transformed into quirky treatment rooms where we both enjoyed the most luxurious full body massages. In my opinion the Pigs are somewhere you can just relax as soon as you check in, knowing that you are in capable hands. They are a little pricey and admittedly the majority of the cars in the car park were a collection of very fancy Land Rovers and Convertibles but the staff and service weren't pretentious or stuffy at all. The whole vibe allowed us to relax in an absolutely beautiful setting and the service was fabulous. If you could please consider opening one East of the M25 that would be much appreciated!
