A Charming Boutique Stay with a Few Minor Hiccups
I recently stayed at The Pig – in the Wall during a short business trip to Southampton, and overall, it was a fantastic experience. This charming boutique hotel offers a cozy, rustic atmosphere combined with modern comfort, making it an ideal retreat after a long day of meetings.
From the moment I arrived, the staff was warm and welcoming, ensuring a smooth check-in. My room was beautifully decorated with vintage touches, a comfortable bed, and a well-stocked larder, which was a delightful surprise. The attention to detail in the design really makes this hotel feel special.
One of the highlights of my stay was the food. The breakfast was fresh and delicious, with locally sourced ingredients that added to the charm of the place. While the hotel doesn’t have a full restaurant, the deli offers tasty small plates, and the sister hotel, The Pig in the Forest, is just a short drive away if you’re looking for a more extensive dining experience.
The location is another plus – nestled within Southampton’s medieval walls, it’s perfect for exploring the city or catching a ferry to the Isle of Wight. Despite being central, the hotel maintains a peaceful and intimate atmosphere.
The only reason I’m giving 4.5 stars instead of 5 is that the Wi-Fi was a bit spotty at times, which was slightly inconvenient since I needed to get some work done. Additionally, while the rustic charm is lovely, the lighting in my room was quite dim, making it a little difficult to work comfortably in the evenings.
That being said, The Pig – in the Wall is a wonderful place to stay, blending history, comfort, and great service. I would absolutely return – though next time, I might bring a small desk lamp!
