Yelp
The Pig in the Wall is quite wonderful. We have experienced the joy that is The Pig nr Bath, so when we were looking for a place to do for my Husband's mid-week birthday, we thought that this would be perfect.
We found an excellent deal online, through The Pig's website. I'm pretty sure it was a one night stay with supper and breakfast for something like £180. Absolute bargain.
It was tricky to find the parking but we managed (we had to call the hotel whilst parked outside) be we found it. I don't think we were charged for the parking and its gated, so it's nice and secure.
The building is stunning, as you would expect from a hotel in The Pig group!
The staff were welcoming and perfectly polite. We were shown to our room and we had the usual room tour. There was a roll-top bath in the room and a beautiful shower in the bathroom. Perfect. There was also a Nespresso machine with normal and decaf pods as well as a larder with items that you could buy. We were informed that there was also a half-size bottle of champagne in the fridge that we could enjoy in our room or take to dinner, which was a lovely surprise.
As previously mentioned, our package included supper so we booked that for the evening. When we arrived we tucked into some salami and pork crackling, both of which were delicious. The apple sauce was made fresh once we had ordered, and it was beautiful (and warm!).
Our supper was very substantial; we had soup and tomato toast for starters, and we both had the sausage roll with garlic cream potatoes for our main course, and desert was stuck toffee pudding and a brownie. Everything was superb. The cocktails were lovely and we took out champagne to brunch and the staff kindly added some syrups to our glasses for us to make champagne cocktails.
The sausage rolls were so nice that we took two home to have for dinner the next day (prices at about £13 for two, but tasty).
The room was lovely. The bed was extremely comfy and the room was quiet. We borrowed a DVD from reception but we didn't watch it in the end because our TV was dodgy and had a weird yellow tint that we couldn't fix. But that's not really a problem.
Breakfast was minimal but lovely. We had some bread and honey, which was all local and tasty. All self serve in a buffet-style. There are no cooked options (but there are boil-your-own eggs).
We really did have a lovely time and we are thankful to the staff for making us feel at home. It really did feel like we were family guests rather than in a stiff hotel & that was really nice.
Oh and we were allowed a few extra hours the next day for a late checkout, which was fab as it was my Husband's birthday and a lay-in is always a nice treat.
Other things to mention:
We had robes (but no slippers)
The toiletries were lovely (and plentiful)
There's a hidden switch on the Nespresso that isn't easy to find, but you'll get there (I heard another guest struggling with this too, so it wasn't just us)
There's a hairdryer
There are books and magazines in the room
