We visited The Royal Danish Playhouse during a cruise stop in Copenhagen and were immediately struck by the sheer size and bold design of the building—it’s impossible to miss if you’re exploring the main tourist spots nearby.
Opened in 2008, the Playhouse is one of Copenhagen’s most modern architectural gems. The deep-brown brick façade paired with sleek stainless steel and floor-to-ceiling glass creates a bold contrast against the surrounding harbor. What makes this place especially memorable is how the structure juts out over the water, supported by Venetian-style crooked columns—an unexpected and beautiful detail that gives it a floating feel.
Even if you don’t catch a performance inside, simply walking the wooden pier that wraps around the building is worth the stop, especially on a sunny day. It offers beautiful views of the water and nearby sights, and has a relaxed vibe with locals and tourists alike enjoying the area.
This spot perfectly blends modern architecture with Copenhagen’s maritime atmosphere. Highly recommended if you appreciate design or just want a scenic walk in the city!
