"Not Your Average Playhouse Copenhagen has a staggering array of museums, concerts halls, and opera houses. The one captured above (while getting rained on during a boat ride in the harbor on our way to see the Little Mermaid statue), is of the Royal Danish Playhouse. Opened in 2008, the playhouse was designed to complement the nearby Copenhagen Opera House, as well as the original 1874 playhouse venue located on Kongens Nytorv. The bluish-green glass-enclosed area affords visitors panoramic views of the harbor, and also has a restaurant and cafe if you want to accompany your view with food or drink. Or considering the weather I was in, it's a nice pace to simply protect yourself from the elements."

We visited The Royal Danish Playhouse during a cruise stop in Copenhagen and were immediately struck by the sheer size and bold design of the building—it’s impossible to miss if you’re exploring the main tourist spots nearby.
Opened in 2008, the Playhouse is one of Copenhagen’s most modern architectural gems. The deep-brown brick façade paired with sleek stainless steel and floor-to-ceiling glass creates a bold contrast against the surrounding harbor. What makes this place especially memorable is how the structure juts out over the water, supported by Venetian-style crooked columns—an unexpected and beautiful detail that gives it a floating feel.
Even if you don’t catch a performance inside, simply walking the wooden pier that wraps around the building is worth the stop, especially on a sunny day. It offers beautiful views of the water and nearby sights, and has a relaxed vibe with locals and tourists alike enjoying the area.
This spot perfectly blends modern architecture with Copenhagen’s maritime atmosphere. Highly recommended if you appreciate design or just want a scenic walk in the city!

The pier outside of the building is a great place for relaxing near the channel and watching passing by boats. Located just near Nyhavn, but here it's not so crowded.
From the opposite side of the channel there is also modern building of the Opera House.

Beautiful modern architecture on the waterfront with a simple but very spacious and bright café/restaurant on the ground floor overlooking the water. Perfect for visiting before a performance or on any given day!

Went for the candlelight concert: imagine dragons and coldplay. It was absolutely stunning. Had a great view and the sound, and not to mention the actual concert and music, was stunning. Amazing experience.

Stopped for a coffee and a hot chocolate mid afternoon. Really reasonably priced and a great view. Dropped a star as the only coffee option was basic coffee and really could benefit from more options but the hot chocolate was absolutely delicious.

Very nice place with beautiful view to the sea and the opera side. The theater is great: no seat without a good view to the scene, good sound and the danse piece we saw was wonderful (never seen something bad there!)
