Review only for the pub (dinner), did not stay. Standard pub fare, the food was pretty good and very reasonably priced. The service and atmosphere I'd say was a little weird, felt a bit ghost town. The staff were nice, but felt like they might all be quite new, they seemed to be a bit unsure of themselves. We waited quite a while to get the bill, despite hardly any other customers, but the rest of the service (ordering, drinks, food) were all done in good time. Definitely recommend the steak and ale pie, it was darn tasty.

It's rare that I leave negative reviews, but having just returned from a family meal I feel compelled to share our experiences. We ordered from the set menu. Our main courses took over 50 minutes to arrive at our table. One of our party ordered steak, cooked medium rare as recommended on the menu. Sadly the steak was well done but we darent send it back for fear or a very long wait for a replacement. The garden peas had that tell tale look of having been left under heat lamps for some time, which might explain the woefully over done steak. The mains took so long to arrive that we had finished our drinks, so ordered more. After almost 30 minutes of staring at our empty mains plates we cancelled the drinks, hopeful that our desserts would arrive and we could end this disappointing meal. Alas, it was another 20 minutes before our desserts arrived. To be fair, my daughter enjoyed her main course and we all enjoyed the puddings, but the experience was disappointing on the whole. I don't think we'll be back.

Eight Ladies who Lunch. Our first visit to the Plough in Alnwick. Excellent varied menu. Plus a small lunch with a drink followed by a coffee with a small sweet. Ideal for us older ladies. Fantastic service from all the staff, especially Reece, who made our visit extra special. Not easy keeping eight old ladies happy!! Warning we will be back!!

A disappointing evening visit to The Plough, not entirely the junior barman’s fault - but painfully slow to make a cocktail, and a shot, as well as being overwhelmed when refunding an item of food that was sold out. Moreover there was an entire lack of leadership from any bar management which should be addressed. 3 separate customers offered assistance to the poor barman. Overall a nice location with a good selection but it was underwhelming and thankfully I shan’t be coming back, good luck on your visit…

We’re to start!!! Parked in the car park round the back. No clear way to the reception. Staff failed to was an issue with the kitchen and no food that evening. Once shown to our room the staff only told one of the couples the doors to downstairs would be locked at 11pm at night. But the staff regularly closed the door early!! The only way to each floor was by the fire escapes that were permanently left open and unlock. So anyone could walk into the place. Rooms are very basic and need some attention. Very unloved and very much an after thought. We went to book a table for our evening meal we found at the kitchen wasn’t opening till 6.30pm. So booked for 6.30pm but instead the waitress booked us in for 7pm. We ordered our food to be told 10 mins later they couldn’t do once of the starts 2 people had ordered. It take 2hr in a very quiet restaurant to have two course!! Then we weren’t given an option to have any pudding as the staff wanted to close. No apologies are offered of complimenty drinks for the delay in food are with the fact we only got part of the meal. The food was nice.

I do not usually post negative comments about a business but after today's experience thought that I had to give a poor rating for today's dining experience at The Plough at Alnwick. We booked a table in advance and turned up a bit early. Had a drink whilst we waited to be seated. Our reservation was for 4.30pm. We were seated and told that kitchen was being set up and that things would be ready in 5 minutes or so (at 4.20pm). We also asked about ordering the food and we're told that a member of staff would let us know when kitchen was open. After 20 minutes we asked at bar if kitchen was open and we're told it would be at 5pm and that someone would let us know when food was being served. At 5.10pm we went once again to the bar and were told that food orders were being taken since 5pm! We placed an order and were surprised that although the venue sold "fish and chips" dog meals, we could not buy one as the server did not know how to put this through the till. We than had to wait almost 40 minutes for the food to be served. This was most surprising as we were the only people eating at this time! I can accept waiting a while for good food to be prepared, however, the quality of the food was very poor for the price we paid and the portions were very small. The food seemed to be similar to that served at a supermarket cafe where frozen foods are heated and served. When paying at the bar a member of staff asked how we enjoyed our visit. In response I asked him if he really wanted to know. He shook his head and said that he only worked at the venue and people should let the manager know. Interesting to note that the manager was not directed to our group ( if the manager was in). I really hope this venue ups their game on customer service and either improve the quality of food on offer or reduce the price.

Great Food, But I Wouldn’t Stay Again We stayed at The Plough for one night before heading to Newcastle Airport. I really wanted to give this place 5 stars because the food and service were excellent—but unfortunately, the room let it down dramatically. The positives: the hotel looks lovely, the staff were friendly, and the food was fantastic. We had pâté, rump steak, and a chicken burger—everything was tasty, well-prepared, and great value for money. The location is also super handy for buses, trains, and exploring Alnwick. The negatives: we stayed in the Bonny Lad Suite, which was dusty, tired-looking, and not very clean. The shower was loud and there was no hot water, which was disappointing after a long journey. There was also a noisy extractor fan outside the window that made it hard to sleep. I didn’t complain at the time—I was just too tired—but basic room standards shouldn’t need prompting. Bottom line: I’d happily come back for a meal, but I wouldn’t book a room again.
