Great Food, But I Wouldn’t Stay Again We stayed at The Plough for one night before heading to Newcastle Airport. I really wanted to give this place 5 stars because the food and service were excellent—but unfortunately, the room let it down dramatically. The positives: the hotel looks lovely, the staff were friendly, and the food was fantastic. We had pâté, rump steak, and a chicken burger—everything was tasty, well-prepared, and great value for money. The location is also super handy for buses, trains, and exploring Alnwick. The negatives: we stayed in the Bonny Lad Suite, which was dusty, tired-looking, and not very clean. The shower was loud and there was no hot water, which was disappointing after a long journey. There was also a noisy extractor fan outside the window that made it hard to sleep. I didn’t complain at the time—I was just too tired—but basic room standards shouldn’t need prompting. Bottom line: I’d happily come back for a meal, but I wouldn’t book a room again.

Stayed here for a week while I saw family, and it is honestly the most lovely of places to stay. Staff were welcoming upon arrival, showed me around and protocol on how to access the hotel area of the pub once the pub was closed. Each room has its own unique name which is pretty cute, and the rooms looked amazing with such a wide space. Had an en-suite and very comfy bed, could feel no springs. Daily cleaner if you’re wanting new towels or a clean which is nice. The pub was very clean, and bar served a good range of drinks. There’s some local that came in while I was dining, which was nice to see. Food was amazing too, the cheese and bacon burger was a great hit with me. Overall a great place to stay and 10/10 will be going back again in the future.

Beautiful ambiance. Very friendly staff and dog-friendly. The food was sooo delicious. The best schnitzel and fish and chips. Thank you so much.

Impromptu visit whilst passing this evening. The front of house was quiet, the rear dining area quite busy. We chose to sit in the bar area, large bay window seating with our welcomed four legged family member. Nice greeting from the 2 gents behind the bar who were very busy with other patrons. Drinks to start & checked out the menu, we chose the Evening menu, 2 courses for £17.50. Mains selected, desert to ponder. Sticky toffee pudding with custard or ice cream. I suggested the chef maybe have a “near miss” slip trip or fall resulting in both toppings ending up on the deserts!? Mains were lovely, served timely & hot. Gents front of house attentive but not intrusive. Were we ready for desert ,,,,,, errrr always! Chatting to a couple seated next to us we were graciously interrupted with presented deserts ,,,, with both ice cream & custard 😍 The chef indeed did have a near miss much to our advantage. However I do feel having to ask for 2 spoons to indulge ourselves was a little spiteful oversight on the licensee ! I welcomed hostelry good selection of drinks & tasty food, would recommend a visit ,,,, or two 😉

Great food. The pies were great and not bad value. Good portion. Puddings were good too.

It's unfortunate that the dire service ruins the decent food and well priced evening set menu. Starters came relatively quickly, but we're currently at 1 hour and 15 minutes since we finished our starters and we still dont have our mains. Twice been told "they're being plated up" only to receive nothing. Also ordered another round of drinks and the coffee just didn't turn up. Shame, the staff seem okay but this is just woeful. Pretty much every other table is having service issues too so it's not just us. It's not busy, it's a Monday night. UPDATE: Told they only have one chef due to sickness. Would've been more understanding if they'd said this when we arrived. Dessert took another 1hr + to arrive, and management left the poor waitress (who has been wonderful) to deal with the whole restaurant herself.

The food and atmosphere were amazing but the service was incredible. We went for 2 evening back to back as the first night was so good. We eat out a fair amount and I myself ran a team in hospitality and I wish I ran the staff here because I would be so proud, each member of staff we sore worked together with each other, its the first time for many years I've seen great team work.

I was on holiday with family in Alnwick . And looked on line for somewhere nice to eat. It said they do a special evening meal . 2 Or 3 course offer. We all decided to have the 2 course menu. When we arrived for some reason this offer wasn't listed on the table of menus for some reason. So had to ask to double check. All our food was really nice . But really disappointed on the fact you only receive 3 single onion rings as an extra portion. And I was looking forward to my raspberry and apple crumble but when I received it only had large wedges of apples with pink juice with no raspberries. For this reason I have given 3 stars
