Great Food, But I Wouldn’t Stay Again
We stayed at The Plough for one night before heading to Newcastle Airport. I really wanted to give this place 5 stars because the food and service were excellent—but unfortunately, the room let it down dramatically.
The positives: the hotel looks lovely, the staff were friendly, and the food was fantastic. We had pâté, rump steak, and a chicken burger—everything was tasty, well-prepared, and great value for money. The location is also super handy for buses, trains, and exploring Alnwick.
The negatives: we stayed in the Bonny Lad Suite, which was dusty, tired-looking, and not very clean. The shower was loud and there was no hot water, which was disappointing after a long journey. There was also a noisy extractor fan outside the window that made it hard to sleep. I didn’t complain at the time—I was just too tired—but basic room standards shouldn’t need prompting.
Bottom line: I’d happily come back for a meal, but I wouldn’t book a room again.
