Do you wanted the haunted or the unhaunted room? What? What? And that's how this visit started.
Historic hotels, historic anything, are an immediate draw for me. This was no exception. The Pollard is a beautiful hotel, well-maintained, and steeped in the old-style elegance of a hotel from its era. It's a warm and inviting setting. But while the setting, and the architecture are period consistent, the Pollard still has the modern amenities. They do a really nice job with it.
The front desk staff are personable and funny. I imagine they can assist with any glitches in a guests' stay -- except for mine. The issue arises when you book on the hotel website. When Red Lodge increased the tax rate, the hotel was and still is, unable to get their website to reflect the new rate. Granted, it is a minor amount, but detracted from what otherwise is a lovely hotel and a great experience.
Oh, and as for the haunted room decision: I told them to surprise me, and it wasn't until the next morning I learned I "may" have had the haunted room. Or so they say. Some stories suggest most rooms on the third floor, and the third floor in general, are haunted. I can't say anything happened -- except that none of the lights would turn on. Or when they did, they'd turn themselves off. Skeptical me thinks it was just a short in the wiring or a loose bulb, but who knows?
