The Portrait Bar

Get a resy! Came here for a birthday date night. Originally booked too late we were waitlisted on resy but a spot opened up at 8:30pm on a Saturday and we got it! It’s in the hotel - so a little bit of a maze to find inside. The place has warm soft lighting. Big cozy couches and chairs - although that does make it awkward to eat a sit down meal. If you’re coming to eat and don’t want to balance a plate on a tiny stool - opt for a bar seating. Drinks were creative! But we also liked to just order a simple martini and it came with a bowl of mixings like more olives, pickles and even a pickled onion? Super delicious. Martini ended up being my favourite drink. For food we got the foie gras toast (super rich and creamy), the hot dog and the burger and fries. I like the hot dog a bit more as it came on a brioche bun and was super flavourful. The burger was also nice but it was just a burger with cheese? No tomatoes, onions or anything else other than the meat/cheese. I think this place is super booked up, they had to ask us to leave so they could seat the next reso! we didn’t even realize nearly 1.5 hours flew by. Although they did let us finish our drinks and even comped the last one. Phenomenal service, they do a good job at making sure everyone has a good time.

Came for my friend’s bday, and they hand wrote a bday note and gave us some popcorn, which was cute :) The vibes are 11/10, and great for pics. The cocktails were yummy and location themed, but def on the pricey end ($25 each 😟). Would come back on a date - Mapo district - Seoul, Korea: 8/10, sweet - Elmhurst - Queens, NY: 7/10, a little spicey - St. James - London, England: 8/10, a little floral - Marrakesh - Morocco: 9/10, fav one out of all four. Sweet

Reservations highly recommended as it was full on a Tuesday evening. Although their cocktail menu seems creative and visually beautiful the flavors didn’t quite do it for me. I may have just chosen the 2 that were very fragrant, but the spices seem to overpower the other flavors in the drink which didn’t sit right with me. We also did the caviar and I wished the caviar came in the tin showing that it is a fresh untouched can like in other restaurants. It was scooped into a glass bowl which I did not love.

Beautiful place with tasty cocktails and friendly hostesses. Unfortunately, the bartender was unfriendly and made us feel unwelcome, even asking us to leave, because she expected another reservation, which wasn't true. Hostess said that we could stay longer. Disappointed!! Also, when I asked how the cocktails differed, the bartender gave a two-word response rather than explaining the taste or ingredients, which felt rude.

Oh my. Where should I start. As soon as I walked in - I was greeted by name (even though it’s only my second time here!). Sitting at the bar was amazing! Beth (I believe) is a great bartender and her cocktails are top notch. Well balanced, nothing extra - so perfect! Food was great too and atmosphere was fantastic! Manager was checking how we doing during visit. Overall one of the best experiences I’ve had for a while. Thank you

From the moment I walked into this bar I was in love. I didn’t have a reservation however front of house were extremely helpful and accommodating. The food was stunning however the reason for me writing this review is to recognise Maria. Maria provided outstanding service from the first meet as well as knowledgeable and attentive. When I’m next in the city it will be one of the first places I’ll visit and I’ve already recommended to friends and family. Thank you Maria for an outstanding experience.

I love NYC. It’s a diverting city, vibrant, alive. There’s different tastes and flavors on every block. When we walked into the portrait bar the hustle and bustle of the city came to a halt. Someone was cooking here. The design, flawless. The vibe, on point. The velvet jackets that everyone on staff is wearing, positively posh. If you want a city moment worth remembering stop into portrait bar. You won’t regret it.

Strong, spirit forward drinks. I looooove. I had the Yuma which was very delicious if you like mezcal. The Barrio was also very smokey, and easy to drink. A nice melon vibe to it. That said, I’m not sure this is a hip hop vibe, it’s more classical and luxury so the music needs some help. I’ll return for sure. Many times over. :)
