My Suggested 4 Day Prague Itinerary for 2025

"Back in town, don’t miss the medieval Powder Tower — one of the original 13 city gates (construction began in 1475) that later stored gunpowder and was heavily damaged in 1757, with most sculptures replaced in 1876 — get tickets in advance to skip the line." - Matthew Kepnes

Where to Stay in Prague (Updated 2025)

"One of the last remaining old city gates, the Powder Tower offers a good vantage point to get a view of the city and is a memorable historical structure I recommend visiting." - Matthew Kepnes

Google
Stunning old tower, gateway to Old Town of Prague. A must see when in Prague. I recently visited Prague for a short visit in Sept 2025 and when I arrived in the evening and we drove past on the shuttle bus and I caught a glimpse of it, I was in awe. It's visually impressive, not only the size but the architecture of it. It's solid, full of detail, the top is accompanied by several spires which adds dramatic detail to the gothic style decor. I didn't go up due to time constraints but from what I saw where the entrance is, the steps to go up to the tower are like those inside a castle, narrow and steep so make sure you have good walking shoes/trainers on. Even if you don't go up for the panoramic views, to see it up close is impressive. From the Powder Tower, you are a few mins walk to the Old Town - 10-15 mins depending on how fast you walk/if you stop to look at shops etc.

Wonderful structure away from the busy area of Prague. The structure is grand and captivating. The view from the top is amazing. You get a whole different view when compared to the ones from the old town area. You also get to see some modern parts of Prague. You can buy the tickets ahead of time but it’s not necessary. Definitely should visit. Just get a little disappointing to see people carving their initials on a historical structure on top of the tower. The local government should really do something about that.

Google
It is visually impressive, but for tourists, it is just a tower. There is some reading about the history of the tower for nerds like me in the middle section of the tower. But if it is just for the view, I wouldn't recommend taking 186 steps up. There are other alternatives, such as the Astronomical Clock.

Google
Well worth the price of admission, the climb was great, 3 levels and then acces to the protected roof walkway. Amazing pictures from the veiw. Reminded me of a few key areas in Europe with such a view, like eiffel tower.

Google
If you climb to the top, it's crazy! But as soon as you see it, just a few steps from the station, a 15th-century tower stands out among the city's newer buildings. I wonder how different it was before the renovation.

Google
Incredible piece of history! We didn’t go into the tower but it’s pretty cool to see from outside. There is a little cafe inside with amazing Art nouveau architecture worth seeing just inside the lobby!

Google
Great view of Prague from the upper balcony. The stairs are very narrow. There are couple of stops until you reach the top. No elevator. Outside of the tower is impressing as well, so before you climb up, do an outside overview first

Google
The Powder Tower is a famous building in Prague you can visit anytime. I went on the second day of a three-day trip, and I opted not to climb the tower. I really feel like I'll be back to Prague again, so I plan on climbing it next time. It was still really nice to visit when the sun was getting lower. I'm sure you'll enjoy The Powder Tower whether you climb it or not.

Yelp
Powder Tower is a gorgeous gothic tower in Old Town that is open to the public to go up. I didn't go up, but I did enjoy admiring it and taking photos of the building.

Yelp
This is one of the senior landmark in Prague, Czechia. it's located in old town Prague, you will walk pass by it whenever you are in the old town or the new town area. It's unique color, makes it very recognizable from far away . This is also how it received its name which was combined with its original purpose. It is open to the public to go up , but since we did not go up, so we cannot really share any inside pictures or videos here.

Yelp
Very impressive and intimidating looking tower. Reminded me from something from the Lord of the Rings movies. Great photo opportunities, but as for the 190K/$8.25 to go up to the top of the tower...it wasn't worth it the time, effort, and money. While I do love a good European tower with 100s of steps, this interiors of each floor weren't too exciting, and the views from the top weren't all that exciting. If you're limited on time, you can skip going up there, and just admire the architecture from the outside.

Yelp
Such an underrated spot! The ticket booth is located on the sidewalk on the north side of the tower. They also offer tickets bundled for other historical attractions around town. Cash and card is accepted. There are two floor of the tower and then the roof terrace and attic. Your ticket will be checked in the first floor. The staircase leading up is barely wide enough for people to pass so be careful. There are exhibits on each floor, but you're probably going up for the view at the top. Go at sunset for the best views! Tripods aren't allowed, but you're able to rest a camera on the ledges at each window. It's probably the best view in the city.

Yelp
A fascinating example of architecture. Well maintained and beautiful. Certainly a "must see" when visiting Old Prague. Even at night, it's worth a look from the outside.

Elly C.

Yelp
You can climb all the way to the top for a great view! I don't believe this is wheelchair accessible, but i could be wrong. It does cost money to go all the way to the top but you can hike halfway for free. The staircase is pretty narrow and some steps are steep so be careful if you choose to do the climb. I thought the trip up was worth it

Yelp
Powder Tower Power! This grand tower was once intended to be the entrance to the town of Prague. It's been used by emperors and kings as part of the coronation process. Later, it was used to store gunpowder, so it got this name. It's a pretty amazing tower, covered in sculptures, ornateness, and flourishes. When I went, there was a bucket drummer who got stopped by the police for being a nuisance. Cheers! Apparently, for a small fee, you can climb up the steep stone stairs several flights of stairs, and get a grand view of everything. It's a great walk from here through Old Town Square to the Charles Bridge.

Yelp
I'm really surprised there were not more people up here. For the half an hour or so that we were at the top, there were only about four other people walking around. I think it might be because the entrance is a bit hidden. You have to go through a doorway, and up a small staircase before you get to the ticket office. It costs 65 CZK (about $3.25 USD) to climb the tower. This was a steal because once you get to the top, you get 360 view of the city. You'll get great views of all of the houses and churches, with plenty of Instagrammable spots. Make sure you don't leave Prague without checking out the Powder Tower!

Yelp
you'll be here if you are visiting, it's an old tower, gothic style from SIGLO 15. It has a panoramic view if you want to go up, 186 steps. You see it while you are in town because it's the way to enter the historic center. Van a estar aquí si están de visita en Praga, es una torre vieja, estilo gótico del siglo 15. Tiene vista panorámica si quieren subir, 186 escalones. La vas a ver mientras estés en la cuidad porque es la vía para entrar al centro histórico.

Yelp
As a pure visual experience, the view of the Powder Tower from the square below is like a painting based on a fantasy novel - it is that magical. Maybe, by itself, the Powder Tower is not as impressive as say the Eiffel Tower or the Statue of Liberty. But when you are right there, in Prague, in the square, surrounded by the amazing Renaissance architecture, the Art Nouveau facades, and that incredible mechanical clock - - it is an all enveloping and unmatched experience.

Yelp
A great stair master workout. We walked up, but saw arrows pointing down, so we went back down halfway. Only to find out that was the entrance. Directions in Prague are quite confusing! We walked up halfway and paid the entrance fee. Amazing views from above, that's all I can say! Worth the trek as we took beautiful photos!

Yelp
The Powder Tower, also known as the Powder Gate, is an important landmark for the city as it was one of the original gates (13 in all) to the old town. When you see it, you will realize it is very old by the color of the stone, and you realize it dates back to the 15th century. Its Gothic Style is much the same as several other landmarks in the city and is remarkable to see, especially at night. It is said when the country became independent, the city did not have lights to light up all its architectural wonders. When U2 played there, they noticed it and donated money to begin installing them. When you see the tower at night, you will see why it was a worthwhile investment!

Yelp
To see the view from Prasna Brana, you will have to climb 186 narrow steps that are in spots little tricky to ascend or descend. But the reward is worth the climb. The views from up here are truly incredible. One of my very favorite vantage points in the city. As of January 2018 the entrance fee was 100 Kc.

Yelp
Powder Tower (Prašná brána) is one of the historical attractions of Prague that you shouldn't miss. Actually, it is a great starting point of a nice walk through the historic Prague and if you have only one day to spend in Prague, this is definitely the walk to do to see the most in the shortest time. Powder Tower is a starting point of a so called Royal Route, a traditional coronation route of Czech (Bohemian) kings. It is also the end of a very important road from Kutna Hora where silver was mined and then transported to the king's castle in Prague. Construction of the tower started in 15th century but was never really finished. At the beginning of 18th century it served as a gun powder warehouse (thus the name "Powder Tower") and was severely damaged by the Prussian army. The building got its current look at the end of 19th century and the Old Town's bridge tower served as a template. Today, the tower is a part of Prague's Museum system and you can walk a bunch of stairs up the tower to have a wonderful view of the old town as well as new town because it stands right on the boarder of those two.

Yelp
Historically this is an important part of Prague. Touristically I don't find it important to go up there. There are much nicer places to get nice views of Prague. But to learn about it is good and nice and I think if it is part of a nice walking tour then it is a good idea. However as a tourist you don't need this to be one of your important things to do.

Yelp
A beautiful landmark located in old town offering a nice view of the city. It may not be all that impressive, and technically there isn't all that much to it, it is still a worthwhile thing to see while visiting Prague.
