Yelp
In general hotels in Penang are a fraction of the costs compared to SGP, we were fortunate to snatch a room in one of the newer nicer hotels by the coast. Overall we were impressed by the hotel staff and its amenities, especially impressed by its mini infinity pool.
Room: 8/10, we got a spacious well lit king size bedroom overlooking the street, everything was spanking new: nice comfy king bed and pillows, beautiful bathroom with rainforest shower, separate toilet room on the other side of the hallway which was an odd design. No closet but there was an open rack that had plenty of hanger space, 2 sets of bath robes for us to wear to the infinity pool; water kettle, Keurig machine with coffee and TWG tea bags, there was a safe to keep your valuables, a cute round table and 2 chairs by the window completing the furnishing. There were some semi-permanent coffee stains on the table top, the only blemish in this otherwise ultra clean room.
Hotel facilities: 8/10, we absolutely loved the mini infinity pool on the second floor. It overlooks the tranquil harbor and the ancient coastal neighborhoods, with lounging chairs on the side for guests to chill, towels already provided. It might not be massive but adequate for a 162 room hotel. We tried the Glasshouse restaurant for breakfast buffet and found it unimpressive: very basic western fares and pastries, some curries and basic local items, the coffee machine broke down 3 times during our session so I only had 1 cup and it was just ok. On the same ground floor there were other restaurants and even a SF coffee shop which we did not try. After all we were in Penang for a food tour.
Location: although it was not immediately next to any major hawker centers or street foods, most of those food spots were no more than 2 miles away via taxi or Grab ride app, other attractions such as the city hall, upside down museum (not a real museum), street arts and Komtar Tower were all only about 1 to 2 miles away. The nearest hawker stand was Sri Weld food court which was relatively small but had descent Ali's Nasi lemak, claypot chicken rice and other stuffs.
Hotel staff: 10/10, extremely courteous, professional and engaging, they seemed to go out of their way to make all their guests feel welcome.
Value: 10/10, we couldn't believe it was less than $70 USD per noc for this newly renovated hotel.
Overall we were very pleased with our stay in the Prestige Hotel and would def consider staying here again on our next visit.
