For our visit to Halifax last weekend, we decided to stay at the Prince George because it seemed pretty centrally located, and the price was quite reasonable to boot. Location-wise, it is pretty centrally located, and it is most of the way up the hill from the bay to the top of the hill where the Citadel is - so if you are looking to make the trek up, it puts you in a decent location, and it is just a few minutes away from many spots to dine and drink at. Even though we got in quite late, checking in was a cinch, as was dropping off our rental car for valet at the front (which, at $30 a night, is pretty pricey for a relatively small city). The lobby itself is pretty open, with a large dining room where breakfast is served, as well as a bar, placed right at the back of the elevator bank - an interesting placement for that. Although the elevators are definitely on the older side, they still get you up and down pretty quickly.
Despite being on the older side, the walls between your room and hallway aren't really that soundproofed at all; if you happen to have a bunch of rowdy folks making their way through late at night, it could be irritating. The room itself was spacious enough, and with a partially obstructed view of the bay, we were facing the right direction to get woken up by the sun. That said, the mattress was definitely on the firmer side, which I was not a huge fan of, and the blankets were somewhat thin as well. Everything in the bathroom was pretty standard, although the large dispensers filled with shampoo and conditioner didn't quite work as expected...I ended up having to deconstruct the holder to use it. While it was quite generous to provide a decent-sized mini-fridge to store things in, there was no safe. If anything, it's just another example of the odds 'n ends that the Prince George provided, without any real explanation or consistency of quality in the room.
The location is very good, and on that alone, I might come back again. Nonetheless, it wasn't the best hospitality experience I have had. The accommodation for late checkout beyond 1 PM (which is definitely on the later side for a regular checkout) was nice of the front desk to do, though. In all - I would expect a pretty average experience that might feel a bit on the pricier side for what you end up with.
