The Prince, St Kilda, Melbourne - Explore & Book

"This unassuming gem, with views across Port Phillip Bay, packs a regal punch far above its weight. Home to a trendy Mediterranean-style restaurant, it also has an iconic Public Bar and Bandroom that's hosted live performances by Coldplay and Scissor Sisters in its time. With so much on offer, it’s no surprise this is a perenially popular spot for celebrations, weddings, private dinners and cocktail parties, and weekend escapes for couples and friends. And when quality downtime is on the menu, the Aurora Spa next door is the last word in pampering.Just 25 minutes by tram from the city centre, the hotel is at the heart of St Kilda’s vibrant inner-city scene, on buzzy Fitzroy Street. Neighbouring Acland also has interesting bars, cafés and shops. In the sweltering summer months, the nearby beachfront is a top spot for people-watching, and the local street scene is teeming with international flavours that reflect Melbourne’s immigrant history. The Prince, pure hotel royalty, reigns literally above it all. Highs 39 sleekly styled roomsGorgeous breakfasts: porridge with rhubarb and hazelnut; smoked ocean trout on sourdough; banana bread with local honeyOysters on room service: always gets our voteThe setting: in a cool neighbourhood, a short stroll from the beach and an easy tram ride into the city Lows Breakfast isn't included in the rates Noise from the Bandroom and Public Bar can spill over on weekends: bring ear plugsSt Kilda’s bohemian, edgy vibe may not be to all tastes" - Melinda McDougall

The Prince (Melbourne, Victoria) 13 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"In Melbourne’s once-derelict, now hip St Kilda is a unique little hotel called, simply, The Prince. Not the Prince Hotel, or Le Petit Prince, or Macchiavelli's Prince, and since its recent renovation, no longer the Prince of Wales. After all, is there anyone less cool than the Prince of Wales, his heart-throb offspring notwithstanding?" - Tablet Hotels

Location is perfectly close to multiple types of restaurants, bars and the beach. Staff were very pleasant and respectful. Room was tidy and clean, spacious with all the amenities needed. The light switches were a bit finicky in our room.

We have stayed the week in July & this is the first time I have been warm . staying anywhere in Winter. Our room was centrally heated & temp was up to 23 degrees. Just what we needed after a funeral . Sensational food ( see my bar review) & friendly & helpful staff. Best Australian stay ever! Thank you!

Excellent service and very helpful staff. The hotel has been renovated tastefully and it was a pleasure to stay there. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable.

Awesome joint if you love stairs. We parked on the 3rd level. No working lift, nor alternate access. Horrible directory signage. Reception provided no assistance when asked. We then had to carry our twin pram down one massive set of stairs (right of picture) , before carrying them back up another set (left of picture) to reach the event space. Diabolical layout. Good luck if there's ever a fire and you aren't entirely physically abled

I don't write a lot of reviews, but after my stay at this hotel I felt compelled to. I was at the prince for 4 nights for a conference. Coming from Canada I was very out my comfort zone and the staff were so warm and helpful it just made my stay in melbourne so easy. Having the restaurant and bar attached to the hotel was super convenient. The food was amazing and the staff that run the restaurant are awesome. I Especially enjoyed breakfast there, and the fact that they always had fruit baskets around. My Room was great, and overall the hotel is really stylish/unique. I would recommend this to anyone visiting melbourne looking for a spot to stay a but different from the normal hotel chains.

Stayed with a friend for a concert last week and it was great, vibe was great and bar staff were attentive and friendly! We were checked in late night by Lyga, and was also checked out by him in the morning too! His presence at the front desk throughout the night was simply ethereal, so friendly and helpful with all our questions no matter how late it was! It was a truly humbling experience knowing I breathe and walk on the same Earth as him. Hotel room was lovely, very spacious and comfortable and filled to the brim with amenities! Breakfast was lovely too and the barista was very friendly ! Would come back again!

We've been coming to this hotel for over 20 years, it's our home away from home when in Melbourne. Added bonus to staying here is the immediate access to St Kilda beach, the newly renovated pier and the excellent bars and restaurants along the beach boardwalk. Trams right outside the hotel transport you into the city in 20 mins or so through the leafy tree-lined streets. Being able to take in the sea air or a morning and a coffee (and cake) in Acland St is simply fantastic.

Our Quadruple room is dirty. I can even smell the dust. The continental pillow on the bed smells really bad. I hope someone would check the rooms if it was properly cleaned. Nevertheless, the toiletries smells very beautiful. The reception staff were friendly too.

Yelp
Booked a queen bed and received a full. Did not honor booking and did not advise at point of check In hat lesser room was provided. Location is noisy, rooms are very dated and property overall is overrated and at best 3.5 stars. Relies on its location for its reputation! Definitely not 5 star.

Yelp
Wow! Haven eaten here for a while. The cuisine now is middle eastern flavoured. The dishes were so tasty, not too rich and wow, they have really stepped it up. The service, great. The drinks fantastic. Atmosphere great. We cervice, lamb and prawn skewers, tasty mushrooms and more. The roast chicken was fantastic. All deserts super. We ended up eating there twice in the same day. Just great.

Yelp
Here for work, I was a bit hesitant booking the Prince knowing it's also home to the Price of Wales pub and also traveling with my boss, I thought this could be a disaster BUT I'm pleased to be wrong - what a brilliant hotel!! The hotel is stylish but small, and most of all quiet! My room was super elegant but minimal. Being a frequent traveller for work, I am now a collector Of bathroom accessories which were a decent brand (Malin + Goetzi). The bed - holy crap, the kind I got out of finally, 1 hour past my alarm, I did not want to move from the bed - so good! Only giving it 4 because the rooms do need a lick of paint, they aren't the newest but the marks on walls could very easily be glossed over by many a traveller. And did I mention, the normal check out time is 11am! Where on earth does that happen without having to pay a fee?! Cheers! Really good wifi connection in room and an even better one in their restaurant where I'm currently having breakfast which is included in the room. I chose a homemade crumpet with Parisan butter and leatherwood honey, so good. Yay and would SO recommend!

Yelp
I am staying at The Prince for the 5th time, it is as wonderful as always, exceptional service, chic surroundings, incredible breakfast included in the rate at Circa and a Dutch woman working at front desk whose energy and enthusiasm typify this great city. I could never stay anywhere else in Melbourne.

Yelp
I've only ever been to Prince of Wales on a Monday for gay night. Usually a great time. Cheap beer, indie guys, Drag Queen arm wrestling, and dancing on tables in the dark with lasers shining in your eye. A good place to get pissed out of your mind and do things you'll regret and laugh about the next day.

Yelp
Prince of Wales Hotel in St Kilda is one of the last dive bars around. It's dodgy enough to feel edgy and yet you're not scared you will be bashed if you win at pool. Everyone's really friendly in there and don't be surprised if an old codger asks you to play with him.... pool I mean. They have $2.50 pots on a Monday night and the room next door is gay night and has a drag show. Upstairs is The Bandroom which have all sorts of live gigs on there. Friday and Saturdays can be a little young for me, but great clubbing if that's what you're in to. There's something for everyone at The Prince and it's on Fitzroy street so there are plenty of options for a cracking night out.

Yelp
I loved this hotel. It is small, stylish and in a great location. The internet service is flawless, the room was quiet, the hotel was clean, and the price is reasonable. The breakfast served in the morning was much better than most hotels. The location is very close to many restaurants. My only difficulty was getting cabs in the mornings.
