The Prince, St Kilda, Melbourne - Explore & Book

"This unassuming gem, with views across Port Phillip Bay, packs a regal punch far above its weight. Home to a trendy Mediterranean-style restaurant, it also has an iconic Public Bar and Bandroom that's hosted live performances by Coldplay and Scissor Sisters in its time. With so much on offer, it’s no surprise this is a perenially popular spot for celebrations, weddings, private dinners and cocktail parties, and weekend escapes for couples and friends. And when quality downtime is on the menu, the Aurora Spa next door is the last word in pampering.Just 25 minutes by tram from the city centre, the hotel is at the heart of St Kilda’s vibrant inner-city scene, on buzzy Fitzroy Street. Neighbouring Acland also has interesting bars, cafés and shops. In the sweltering summer months, the nearby beachfront is a top spot for people-watching, and the local street scene is teeming with international flavours that reflect Melbourne’s immigrant history. The Prince, pure hotel royalty, reigns literally above it all. Highs 39 sleekly styled roomsGorgeous breakfasts: porridge with rhubarb and hazelnut; smoked ocean trout on sourdough; banana bread with local honeyOysters on room service: always gets our voteThe setting: in a cool neighbourhood, a short stroll from the beach and an easy tram ride into the city Lows Breakfast isn't included in the rates Noise from the Bandroom and Public Bar can spill over on weekends: bring ear plugsSt Kilda’s bohemian, edgy vibe may not be to all tastes" - Melinda McDougall

The Prince (Melbourne, Victoria) 13 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"In Melbourne’s once-derelict, now hip St Kilda is a unique little hotel called, simply, The Prince. Not the Prince Hotel, or Le Petit Prince, or Macchiavelli's Prince, and since its recent renovation, no longer the Prince of Wales. After all, is there anyone less cool than the Prince of Wales, his heart-throb offspring notwithstanding?" - Tablet Hotels

Great location, great room and awesome service. Front desk helps/gives you as much information as possible to help with your visiting stay and tour. Best sleep I ever had, the bed is so comfy that I was undisturbed by my partnerys snoring. Pillows was 👌🏻 so so good! It was to work getaway/birthday stay, Didn't eat in the hotel but stayed in and enjoy mini bar offerings and Netflix. The stay was really relaxing and romantic.

I had a pleasant 3 nights at the Prince hotel. The environment was peaceful and quiet at night. Hotel is classy but relaxed. Room was cozy and housekeeping staff had done a great job by keeping it clean and tidy whenever I came back. The hotel has a great location, close to St. Kilda Sea bath, Beach and the pier. The closest tram stop is less than 300 meters away, less than a 2 minute walk to hotel, which is very convenient. There are many restaurants nearby and open till late night. Chemist is just around the corner. Luna park, palais theatre, acland street are all within walking distance. It is a nice place to stay for short vacation and events.

We were very happy with our stay. Staff were attentive, helpful and exceeded our expectations. The function manager was so helpful with booking our wedding ceremony in the atrium the day before due to bad weather. Not only did you save our wedding ceremony, the concierge were so attentive and helpful throughout our stay. Especially the gentlman working the desk the morning of nov 30. I was a stressed out bride after finding out the road would be blocked off and the carpark full due to multiple marathons. The concierge was so helpful with information and eased my stress with regular updates. He even came to our room with complimentary chocolates and coffee when the restaurant was packed due to marathon runners and our order was delayed. All the staff were so lovely and we will be ao happy to visit again for our anniversaries. Thank you

Brought two glasses of red during happy hour, told I had to use their app to get the discount during happy hour. What a backward policy, the only pub to my knowledge that does such nonsense. Totally surprised that they would do this as a policy

I just wanted to leave a review and personally thank you because I visited on Wednesday evening for steak night but unfortunately had a seizure as the younger waiter was serving us our starter, it was dealt with very professionally and understanding and I couldn’t ask for anything else better! Thank you so much! We will be back to hopefully try our meal next time! Thank you again! I didn’t get the waiters name.

We have had a couple of meals at the Prince and thought they were pretty good. Unfortunately we booked into this years Christmas Lunch event. This fell far short of expectations with the roast meal served absolutely cold.

Google
Whilst the area was ideal, the room lovely and clean, it was extremely noisy. Not only from a party (it seemed that the majority of the rooms looked out onto the function room) every time someone either flushed the toilet or ran the taps in the neighboring rooms you could hear everything. ||||I was extremely disappointed, especially when reception just shrugged their shoulders at the issues raised and offered me earplugs.

Google
Super average offering with staff that do not care if you exist and prices to make you eyes bleed! View, location and quality of patrons whimsical interactions the only thing that's saving it. Was once St.kilda main stay, now a pointless tourist spot that leaves people wondering why it's so famous = Hardcore gentrification

Yelp
Booked a queen bed and received a full. Did not honor booking and did not advise at point of check In hat lesser room was provided. Location is noisy, rooms are very dated and property overall is overrated and at best 3.5 stars. Relies on its location for its reputation! Definitely not 5 star.

Yelp
Wow! Haven eaten here for a while. The cuisine now is middle eastern flavoured. The dishes were so tasty, not too rich and wow, they have really stepped it up. The service, great. The drinks fantastic. Atmosphere great. We cervice, lamb and prawn skewers, tasty mushrooms and more. The roast chicken was fantastic. All deserts super. We ended up eating there twice in the same day. Just great.

Yelp
Here for work, I was a bit hesitant booking the Prince knowing it's also home to the Price of Wales pub and also traveling with my boss, I thought this could be a disaster BUT I'm pleased to be wrong - what a brilliant hotel!! The hotel is stylish but small, and most of all quiet! My room was super elegant but minimal. Being a frequent traveller for work, I am now a collector Of bathroom accessories which were a decent brand (Malin + Goetzi). The bed - holy crap, the kind I got out of finally, 1 hour past my alarm, I did not want to move from the bed - so good! Only giving it 4 because the rooms do need a lick of paint, they aren't the newest but the marks on walls could very easily be glossed over by many a traveller. And did I mention, the normal check out time is 11am! Where on earth does that happen without having to pay a fee?! Cheers! Really good wifi connection in room and an even better one in their restaurant where I'm currently having breakfast which is included in the room. I chose a homemade crumpet with Parisan butter and leatherwood honey, so good. Yay and would SO recommend!

Yelp
I am staying at The Prince for the 5th time, it is as wonderful as always, exceptional service, chic surroundings, incredible breakfast included in the rate at Circa and a Dutch woman working at front desk whose energy and enthusiasm typify this great city. I could never stay anywhere else in Melbourne.

Yelp
I've only ever been to Prince of Wales on a Monday for gay night. Usually a great time. Cheap beer, indie guys, Drag Queen arm wrestling, and dancing on tables in the dark with lasers shining in your eye. A good place to get pissed out of your mind and do things you'll regret and laugh about the next day.

Yelp
Prince of Wales Hotel in St Kilda is one of the last dive bars around. It's dodgy enough to feel edgy and yet you're not scared you will be bashed if you win at pool. Everyone's really friendly in there and don't be surprised if an old codger asks you to play with him.... pool I mean. They have $2.50 pots on a Monday night and the room next door is gay night and has a drag show. Upstairs is The Bandroom which have all sorts of live gigs on there. Friday and Saturdays can be a little young for me, but great clubbing if that's what you're in to. There's something for everyone at The Prince and it's on Fitzroy street so there are plenty of options for a cracking night out.

Yelp
I loved this hotel. It is small, stylish and in a great location. The internet service is flawless, the room was quiet, the hotel was clean, and the price is reasonable. The breakfast served in the morning was much better than most hotels. The location is very close to many restaurants. My only difficulty was getting cabs in the mornings.
