TLDR: Amazing place with top notch customer service, historic charm, and convenient location. We'll definitely stay here every time we are in town. ||Hotel: The hotel is incredibly beautiful. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. |It's the little details that add to the charm, from the pictures placed throughout the property providing a view of the past, the overall furniture selection and of course the architecture. The entire property has been very well maintained and full of character. ||The gym has all the essentials for a good workout. Monks' bar downstairs was really cool spot with great drinks selection. ||Service: Without a doubt the customer service was the absolute best we have ever experienced at any hotel. From the time we walked in and throughout our stay every staff member was attentive and friendly. ||Location: Very convenient location and is just a short ride to all major attractions. We visited for a wedding held at the Grand Hall located behind the Priory which made it so convenient to stay and celebrate in the same place. The venue used to be a church and holds just as much history and historic charm as the hotel. Downtown is just a short drive away and the hotel also offers shuttles for some events.

Not only is the venue outstanding I have never had service like I did last night with Athena! Beyond exceptional! Attention to detail! Attentive, warm, and incredibly intuitive—she made our experience unforgettable. It’s rare to find someone who serves with such genuine care and effortless grace. A true gem of hospitality! I should know I have ran a small restaurant for 22 years and I would take her back with me to work the service was so good! Wine not very tasty . Food scrumptious!

Enjoyed my stay at the Priory with my husband and friends. Staff were very welcoming and attentive from the start. The hotel is very well taken care of full of charm and the courtyard is absolutely beautiful! The bagged breakfast provided in the morning was a plus, especially if you are on the go. The bar downstairs was a great place to meet up with friends. Would definitely stay here again and highly recommend to anyone visiting.

We stayed at The Priory Hotel in May while in town for a friend’s wedding, and we couldn’t have been happier with our experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff was warm, welcoming, and incredibly helpful. The hotel itself is full of character, beautiful historic architecture blended seamlessly with modern comforts.||Our room was clean and cozy, just what we needed after a long day of traveling and celebrating. The courtyard was a lovely place to relax with a drink, and we appreciated the peaceful atmosphere despite being so close to downtown Pittsburgh.||The location was perfect for us, close to wedding venues and just a short ride to explore some of the city’s great restaurants and sights.||We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. A truly unique and charming hotel that made our trip extra special!

The Priory is a true gem! It offers the closest experience to a European Inn that you can find in Pennsylvania. The building is impeccably preserved, and the staff is very accommodating and friendly. There is a lovely courtyard with a fountain and plenty of seating. My well-appointed room had a very comfortable bed, making my stay a refreshing change from large chain hotels.

We had a brief stop in Pittsburgh, so we booked this hotel since we’re history buffs - it’s spectacular. The room was beautiful, quiet, and nicely appointed with a mini fridge, ironing board and iron, safe, robes, tv toiletries, etc. The staff members were helpful and welcoming, and someone even opened the door for me as I approached with my hands full. The hotel is really interesting and gorgeous, and we’d love to spend more time there - we’re already planning a return visit.

Google
It's a great venue for a wedding. The Grand Hall is amazing. Everyone tells us it's safe, but the neighborhood, for us, is a little sketchy. (transitional) The room was nice, but small. The bathroom is tiny. No restaurant or room service. Monks bar is a treat

We celebrated our 42nd Anniversary there in June and were absolutely delighted! The staff were amazing and so friendly. They really made you feel at home. Monk bar adorable and courtyard beautiful. Highly recommend 😍

Yelp
This corner of Pittsburgh is like no other. You need to visit. An area slotted to be destroyed in the 1970's, this tough monastery has managed to withstand urban blight and gentrification to be standing in a manner not too different than it was in the early 1900's. I'm not sure if I agree with managements definition of this being a 'European Style' hotel. Hell no. This is a Pittsburgh style hotel, literally built on immigrant labor nestled in Deutschtown that refused to be paved over when the highway wanted to pass through. Ok! The details -the staff is more than friendly! they own the place. It's a cooperative. Everyone is nice and invested. They treat you like a guest. Amenities at the desk and a friendly person greets you every time you stop by. Thanks -good parking when the Steelers aren't playing at home:) -you got to love this neighborhood. It's the real deal. A genuine diversity of people and a grocery store down the street. -michael the bartender is a historian. Have him tell you something specific(ask him about the vault..)He calls himself a storyteller, but it doesn't seem to be adequate to sum up his knowledge. -the rooms are unique and spacious -I love the area. The Northside is so rich with museums, architecture and people. To be honest, the hipsters aren't making it to this part of Pittsburgh yet. And they will... Take advantage of this hidden gem. Mary Cassatt, Romare Bearden and Henry O.Tanner are all from Pittsburgh's Northside. No doubt there is something in the water. You'll have to visit to find out.

Yelp
Great historical overnight accommodation. The only thing this place could improve is the surrounding area. The staff was friendly, the room was clean and the bar was open. Great getaway spot that is still in town. Close walk to several eating establishments.

Yelp
I stayed at the Priory Hotel in Pittsburgh for three nights/four days for my friend's wedding weekend. She set up a group reservation for guests, so I booked under that over the phone. It was an easy registration process and I received my confirmation over email. I checked in on a Thursday afternoon and checked out Sunday morning. Overall, I had a great time during my stay there. They offered complimentary breakfast, Wi-Fi, and shuttle service. The woman working the front desk was friendly and a local, so she offered advice and directions about the immediate area and Pittsburgh in general. The Priory Hotel was a former abbey. It was converted into a hotel/inn but still has all the architectural flourishes of a community home for monks and nuns (the hotel bar is named "Monk's Bar"). There's a gym room in the basement (G level); the business center (computer and printer you can use) and conference room is on the G level also. I thought the gym was well equipped, and there was a water dispenser and TV down there also. I had a standard sized room, which was a comfortable size for two people. We had a flat screen TV, coffee maker, and a decent amount of clothing storage (dresser and wardrobe). Our window had a view of Pressley Street. I was within walking distance of a pharmacy, supermarket, and some restaurants and a bar. I walked to Allegheny Commons Park in the mornings. I would stay at the Priory again during future visits to Pittsburgh.

Yelp
Enjoyed our stay here after a wedding! I would not feel comfortable roaming around outside alone (I'd say the location is a bit on the sketchy side) - but the hotel itself is absolutely beautiful! Our room was beautifully renovated and updated. The bathroom in our room was absurdly small though. There was about 2mm of clearance between the door opening and the toilet - you had to step over the toilet into the shower to be able to get inside and shut the bathroom door. I would be concerned to stay in this room for that reason if I were elderly or a larger person! Toiletries provided were nice. Towels were fluffy and clean. I liked being able to pick your breakfast the day before and have it ready for you to pickup at your desired time. I would definitely stay here again - especially if attending a wedding at the venue!

Yelp
Recently hosted a small event at The Priory and overall pretty disappointed in the level of service. For example, water was not refreshed during the event at the tables and we had to ask to have food refreshed at the buffet when it ran very low. The mimosas were self-serve, which seemed a little odd, every event I have been to with mimosas they were passed or served. We were not offered coffee with the cake, that was also self-serve and we had to ask for the cake to be offered as well. I will say that the food was excellent, a shining spot with the dissapointing service.

Yelp
My wife and I went to a wedding in Pittsburgh this weekend. We stayed at the Priory because it was right next to the function hall which is a part of the hotel. We were able to get checked in very quickly and to our room to relax for a bit after a long day of traveling. The rooms are extremely clean, I cannot get over how impressed I was when I walked into the room. If you're looking for a unique experience with a hotel, visit the Priory, their prices are a little steep, but worth every penny. We will definitely be back there.

Yelp
The best private hotel location in the burgh. The staff is great--best bartender in the city. Accommodations are very nice, updated, and perfect in this quaint hotel. No better place to stay in Pittsburgh!

Yelp
The hotel was clean, quiet, and safe. And it was fascinating to see hints of the former priory still visible. The staff were helpful and friendly, especially Kim! Kim was very eager to share her knowledge and experience of the hotel.

Yelp
The space is gorgeous and the staff is kind and competent. They also have the loveliest little bar and a beautiful patio area and an absolutely adorable little grab and go breakfast service. Go here!

Yelp
We booked The Priory with a last minute opening for the Pittsburgh Taylor Swift concert. We stayed two nights, and our expectations were blown out of the water across our entire experience. Customer Service throughout outstanding. Logan in particular at the front desk was fantastic, however the entire staff were pleasant and helpful. They were thoughtful and go above and beyond to welcome their guests. We thought their "Swiftie Welcome Station" and free shuttle offered to and from the concert for all guests attending were evidence of this extra time and care they put towards the needs of each and every of their visitors. Accommodations were also very pretty. We were impressed by the quality and condition of the rooms, as well as moved by its unique charm and aesthetics. Parking was easy, and the hotel is close to downtown and walkable to the baseball and football stadiums. While we were initially unsure of the immediate surrounding area, upon arriving we felt comfortable and even decided to walk home from our concert. Overall- a must recommend and truly hidden gem in Pittsburgh!!

Yelp
We stayed here for a wedding that was also on site, the whole experience was a bit of a calamity of errors. First, there was no parking, so we go to the valet, but apparently the valet is just for events, so he doesn't want to take our car, but there is literally no other parking and the EQT 10 Miler was the next day so we couldn't park on the street. So he ends up taking the car (more on this later). We check in and there were 2 people at the desk. They were both amazing. no complaints there at all, however, they had downgraded our room to a smaller bed because they oversold and since we checked in latest we got the short end of the stick. 1. they shouldn't have oversold, and 2. don't you think you would give the rooms to the people that booked them earlier not the people that checked in first? Our family booked last minute and arrived 20 minutes before us and were given the larger room, which makes me think the rooms are really first come first served. They did give us drink vouchers to make up for this, but we were there for 1 night for a wedding that already had free drinks, so this wasn't especially helpful or valuable to us. The majority of this place seems to be in disrepair or being repaired or something, but overall its not as nice or finished as you would expect for the price. Everything is old and seems just not finished. Like the rugs are just cut off at the end and not under those metal ending things and there's molding missing from the bottom of the walls. It's just not nice. Then we go up to our room. I sit on the bed and the whole freaking thing slams to the ground. I mean, I like food, but not in a way that I commonly expect to break a bed by sitting on it, especially a sturdy hotel bed. So, I go back downstairs to tell them about the bed and then we go to the wedding. I will review the wedding separately. When we got back, the bed was fixed with a piece of wood holding it up. It worked alright for the night, but I feel bad for the next person to sleep there. Then, we go to check out and they have no idea where our car keys are....LOL. Eventually, they found them, but we were pretty nervous there for a minute. People working here were really friendly, but this place needs to get its stuff together.

Yelp
The Priory is a boutique hotel located in the Northshore area of Pittsburgh in what once was called the Northside. Apparently, someone decided Northshore sounds trendier and a name change was in order. The Priory is a former Catholic rectory and reflects the brick construction common in the area. It offers two fenced parking lots with free parking immediately adjacent to the hotel. The employees are friendly and helpful. I wish I could add more compliments but unfortunately, I can't! It offers free shuttle service however, due to a shortage of employees this service is not always available and there is no way to determine when you may be left to your own devices. The Priory is popular for wedding receptions and if you are unlucky enough to be staying there when one takes place don't expect to get any peace and quiet after a long day of traveling. Since the hotel is basically a converted home, space and soundproofing are sacrificed for ambience. In short, it's very noisy! There is no bell or valet service, so you are on your own in regard to carrying luggage and belongings. Our room was tiny by any standard and not comfortable or inviting. It was dark and definitely not attractive. There were multiple table lamps and one floor lamp in the room, but all had dark brown shades which pretty much eliminated any light coming from them. There is a lack of outlets in the room to accommodate today's gadgets and toys. The bathroom was dated, and the toilet seat kept falling off the toilet. There is no restaurant in the hotel and only a few nearby but barely in walking distance and neither is worth the walk. The safe in the room did not work and this is not an area you want to leave any valuables unsecured in your room. On one occasion while going to our car an individual was standing in the street yelling "give me a knife" repeatedly! Very interesting. A grocery store one block away had a police officer standing guard at the entrance, not a good sign! I couldn't help but think I had made a mistake and ended up in New York City. There is one ice machine for the guests, and it is located in the basement. If you enjoy staying in boutique hotels you might want to consider The Priory but if you are looking for a hotel which offers amenities and services, I suggest you go elsewhere.

Yelp
The Priory Hotel is a very special place! It is a beautiful old hotel with all the amenities you would want. The hotel offers a continental breakfast and free shuttle service. The courtyard is a charming place to relax. Monk's bar is small but makes delicious cocktails (try the Bramble). The very best part of this hotel is the staff! They are outstanding! They made our recent trip to Pittsburgh fun and memorable. You will love staying here!

Yelp
I booked a room from Sunday, April 2nd, through Wednesday, April 5th, 2023, in the Priory Hotel, 614 Pressley Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212, because it is the hotel closest to Allegheny General Hospital, where I was scheduled to have back surgery. The Priory was originally built as a monastery in 1888. It must have been designed as punishment for bad monks because of the austere conditions in each of its original 24 rooms. My room 305, had no bureau in which to place my clothes during my 3-night stay. So, I had to live out of my suitcase which I kept open on a chair. Also, there was no refrigerator or microwave in the room. I thought that, after the monastery was converted to a hotel in 1995, such amenities would have been added. Lastly, there walls no counter space on which to place toiletries, so I placed them on the toilet tank top. As far I know, monks did not have toiletries, but the converters should have thought about the need for some space. In conclusion, I do not recommend this hotel to anyone other than a monk.

Yelp
for those that don't know, the priory was once a church. a big church with many buildings, & a courtyard in the middle. it is so beautiful there, anywhere you go. the "sanctuary" is now the grand hall. all the paintings, the gold gild, it's all still there along with beautiful windows & woodwork. the courtyard has a fountain that babbles along. they have a chef, a bar, & even a couple nearby homes for rent to brides & grooms & their famlies to stay close by. besides weddings, they do other events. from spring to fall, the have wine dinners. they are to die for! we went to the last one of the season recently. (try back in the spring!) it was the wines of the pacific northwest. we arrived to a mimosa, & fruit & cheese. a very nice spread. more than we could eat at our table! once everyone else arrived, the dinner began! the 1st course was shrimp romano on a caesar salad, paired with rascal, a pinot gris. i love a good caesar salad, & this was 1 of the them! the wine was crisp, perfect match. 2nd course was butternut squash ravioli with smoked chicken in a brown butter sage sauce with a duck pond cellars pinot noir. the chicken was so tender. a nice wine, more body than we expected. 3rd course, braised short rib ragu in a ring of duchess potatoes with a rasa vineyard's "occam's razor" red blend. the meat just melted in your mouth! that wine, well, we won a free bottle later, & i nabbed that puppy before someone else took it! it is delicious! finally, dessert! a warm apple & pineapple crisp with vanilla bean ice cream, served with hyatt vineyard's reisling. the reisling was a nice fit to the crisp. i must say, they are also very generous with the wine, just ask for more! we also had wonderful table mates! sometimes you get a not so nice group or couple. but hey to nancy & laila! we had so much fun! really, where can you get all of this for a mere $75/person! great night! can't wait til next year!

Yelp
Ok for all of the reviews that said people were rude I didn't see it. Everyone I encountered were super friendly and helpful. The place is quite and cozy and tucked away but very convenient to the city. We didn't use it but the shuttle service they provide sounded awesome but we chose to walk. Our room was super clean, how do I know? I used a black light on it and found nothing. LOL. The mattress was a little on the hard side but other than that the room was quite and comfortable. You also have complete control over the thermostat which some hotel don't allow and seeing how I like it arctic cold when I sleep this was nice. The morning continental breakfast was good and fresh with plenty of selections to choose from. Micheal our host when we checked in was very informative and courteous. When asked for local restaurants to eat in several were suggested but because we were in Dutchtown we chose the German place three blocks away. It is a must try see my review on Max's allegheny tavern. Next time we are in Pittsburgh this is the hotel we will chose.

Yelp
Let me start by saying I am a road warrior! This hotel was booked by my company travel agent. She did this in an effort to save cost and when I first looked up the hotel I was horrified! Upon walking in I was greeted enthusiasm. Explain all about every amenity at the hotel. Went to a very impressive albeit somewhat small room that reminded me of my grandparents house. The carpet was ultra soft and the closet was huge. I had partaken in a few libations at monks bar, which is literally the smallest bar in Pennsylvania. My only two minor complaints were the Wi-Fi was marginal at best and my shower had some mold. This was not the type of mold that you had in your bathroom at college. This was minor grout mold. I appreciated seeing at the hotel uses real tile and not an insert like most chain hotels. Will I be back? Absolutely, and I suggest you stay here as well. This was an awesome find.

Yelp
We had an unplanned overnight in Pittsburgh. We asked a receptionist where to stay. She said The Priory. THANK YOU, RONDA! This "hole-in-the-wall" historic hotel provided an amazing experience. We saw three rooms; all are beautifully unique. This hotel is without a doubt the CLEANEST hotel I have ever stayed. The complimentary "bag breakfast" was extraordinary. (I usually offer my husband half of my sandwich; after the first bite of The Priory ham and cheese croissant... let's just say he didn't get any of it). The staff was exceptional. Property Director Giuseppe was my superhero. When we registered, he noticed I was ill. When I said I had a migraine, he asked the desk to change our room. While my husband continued to check in, Giuseppe walked with me to the new room. He explained this room was farthest away from other guests so it should be quieter for me. He even offered me a cup of tea. I have never experienced this level of customer care. I HIGHLY recommend.

Yelp
Awesome hotel. Clean. Excellent staff. Beautiful rooms and building. In a decent area with parking and good view of the city.

Yelp
I'd actually like to give 3.5 stars, but that's not an option. My stay at the Priory was OK. My flight into Pittsburgh was early and I arrived at the hotel at 11:30 hoping for an early check-in. I was told possibly by 1pm, so I went to eat lunch (they kindly kept my bag for me), and came back around 1:30 and ended up getting a room a little after 2. My room was nice enough, the bed was soft and had a lot of pillows. Unfortunately the heater was not working. I asked the front desk and they said they were switching to the boiler (it was the first cold day of the year) and to turn my system off and turn it back on later when everything should be working. I did so and later that evening it was still 64 degrees in my room and wasn't getting any warmer. I went downstairs again and they said they called someone to come take a look at it. Meanwhile I left and came back from a late dinner and my room was down to 62. I pulled the blanket out of the closet. I wasn't about to take a shower in a freezing room so I can't give a review of the shower facilities. Anyway, I stayed up until after 11 and finally the heat started working, just in time for bed. Breakfast the next morning was pretty good. Their decaf coffee was fresh and actually hot. The breakfast room had tablecloths and linen napkins and actual plates and silverware. Definitely a couple steps up from your normal hotel breakfast. I wish they would have had some english muffins though, as the bread was a super-cheap loaf that turns rock hard when you toast it. The staff was friendly and the parking lot was close, but tiny. I was lucky the times that I came back I was able to snag the one available space, otherwise I would have had to park in their secondary lot, which is gated. There is a gas station nearby that I stopped at, but I probably would not walk to from the hotel. The wi-fi was horrible, and I kept switching between the various guest networks trying to find one with a reliable connection. I ended up giving up at one point and using my phone as a hotspot. My room was on the 3rd floor so maybe I was just too far from the access points? Anyway, I had an alright stay but was disappointed in the heating issue and the wi-fi and wouldn't stay here again because of those two issues. Everything else was fine, the staff was especially nice, so if the price is right for you, you might have no problem with staying here.

John R.

Yelp
This is a beautiful property. The rooms are exceptionally clean and comfortable. it is convenient to Pitt as we were visiting our daughter. The parking is free and across the street from the hotel. Staff is friendly and professional. Now for the reason. I am writing the review. We woke up this morning in a bit of a hurry to check out and we had no hot water. I called the front desk and was told to let the water run for about 5 min (I had already done that) and then call back if it does not get hot. We let it run for at least 10 min and then decided we did not have time to wait for someone to maybe come and fix it so we quickly took our showers with cold water. When we checked out I told the front desk that we never did get hot water but we had to leave. All he said was 'sorry'. We were not offered any type of compensation at all for our inconvenience. Other than the hot water issue, it was a nice stay but will not return.

Yelp
Our friends gave us a gift card from bedandbreakfast.com so we chose to use it at The Priory on Friday night for our weekend in Pittsburgh. They had a spring special on there website that wasn't listed on the bedandbreakfast site so I wasn't sure if it was option but I called and they were more than happy to book the room for the special rate. The outside and the inside both had a lot of old world charm an our room was beautiful. We explored some and found a cute outdoor patio and the front of the hotel had a small bar called Monks. After dinner we hit Monks is for a drink and the bartender gave us some recommendations for what to see while we were there when he found out we were out of town. The next morning a breakfast of meats, cheese, and pasteries were served and it was delicious. We both truly enjoyed our stay and if we ever visit Pittsburgh again, I can see us staying here.

Yelp
Very surprised at all of the positive reviews. I agree that the staff is very nice, but that is the only positive part of the stay. The rooms are old and dingy. The bed frame is too large for the mattress, so we kept banging our knees on it. The rooms are poorly/oddly lit. Bad ramp access means you have to carry your bags up stairs or use an antiquated lift. No food anywhere near the hotel very uncomfortable and the tub didn't drain. Far better choices at this price range.

Yelp
We've stayed here twice during recent trips to Pittsburgh, and while the city itself is a bit hit and miss, the Priory is always comfortable and welcoming. A great place to escape after a long drive or a stressful drive around the maze of roads and traffic that make up Pittsburgh. Each room is pretty unique and always well appointed and very clean. The staff are friendly and helpful with whatever you might need and it's an easy drive to most of the attractions around town.

Yelp
Shuttle driver is awesome and the sweet lady at the front desk is not getting paid enough! Other than that DO NOT Stay here!!! Rooms smell and the rest of the staff are jerks!!! Basically no bar and for some reason they make you sign a document that you will not bring any adult beverages into to the room you have been over charged!!! Way too many places in Pittsburgh to stay that are more reasonable and have great food and bar that stays open past 10!!! Our experience is so bad I wouldn't put a stray animal in the Priory Hotel!!! Spend the extra and stay closer to down town if you have to and have a much better experience! FYI the stray animal is going home with us regardless No telling what these ass holes might do? Zero stars if possible

Yelp
Being the procrastinator that I am I was late to get a hotel for the third leg of out 4 city vacation. Not to worry, I jut opened my "Hotels Tonight " app and found a good deal at this place called The Priory Hotel. Good reviews and relatively close to where we needed to be. That's not where it stopped though. We needed fo find a place for the next theee nights as well, so I spoke with Michael at the desk and he managed to get us a great deal using one of my discount cards and a little of his own magic! We did change rooms in the middle of our stay but we actually upgryto a bigger room. No complaints here! The grounds are beautiful and historic with a remarkable restructuring for hotel use done using so much of the original structure. The continental breakfast was above par and served with actual china and silverware with staff always available to freshen your coffee or clear your table. The shuttle service is great, Walter is a real gem of a person. They all have a great disposition and seem to have customer service as their priority. The Monks Bar in the hotel is the smallest bar in Pittsburgh but possibly one of the friendliest around. The hotel is quiet and relaxing and has been visited by some big names because of its privacy. There were so many little things that made the difference that I cannot begin to list them all, however, I will say I cannot wait to get back to Pittsburgh to stay at The Priory!

Yelp
Inside the old St. Mary's Priory, a beautiful hotel transformed from a real monastery is Monk's Bar. The tiny and I mean very small bar, with three tiny tables and three bar stools is big on properly made drinks. I sat at a stool which isn't high enough for the bar which made for a rather uncomfortable seating. My friend Katrina has known the lone bartender, Nikki for years and has been wanting to get me out of my comfort zone and try new places. I beat Katrina to the Priory and found a lot of free parking out front (after 7 pm street parking is free) and went inside. Now situated, I sat down and looked over the menu and decided on a Monktini, citron absolute, fresh lime juice and razzmatazz. Perfect for a warm summer night, not heavy or filling, a little sweet, a little tart. Refreshing! After Katrina arrived another couple walked in and sat at one of the small cafe tables, the tiny room induces conversation with others, especially when the bartender introduces you to everyone. Time for a bite and this is where Monk's Bar lost a star (the uncomfortably high bar and low stools cost them a star as well) but as a practicing vegan, there were no options I could enjoy. Sandwiches are served on pretzel buns (monks invented pretzels) with options like a ham and turkey club, turkey, creamy chicken salad, and a few others I forgot. I did order hummus but it wasn't filling at all. I did enjoy the house made Lemoncello, although I have made this in the past, Monk's makes there's with grain alcohol which I found to be too strong. I'll continue to make mine with 100 proof vodka and forgo the impending hiccups. It was a very interesting night, made new friends, found an interesting new spot and a really cool building I'd love to explore more of. Everyone should try Monk's bar and get out of your comfort zone.

Yelp
One thing Pittsburgh is not known for, but should be, is turning old churches into businesses, homes and even bars (gasp!). Most of the churches are so beautiful that it's such a great use of space. This is no exception, as it's just so unique inside! If you're looking for that nontraditional hotel that's NOT a Marriott or Hilton, this is the place you'll want to stay! It's fashioned like a European boutique hotel, plus all the amenities you'd be looking for like WiFi, a shuttle and continental breakfast (score!). It's also a really lovely place to have an event. For smaller events you can rent out specific parlor's for a reasonable cost and you're able to bring in your own caterers. I really like this option because you're not boxed into one choice that may be out of price range. If I would have gotten married in Pittsburgh, this would definitely have been my first choice for the reception. The Grand Hall is just gorgeous! It has the original church organ and stain glass windows. When it's all dressed up for the event it's just a stunning place for a magical affair! The Northside of town, where it's located, has walkable access to the Andy Warhol Museum, The Mattress Factory Museum, The Children's Museum, The National Aviary, The Carnegie Science Center, PNC Park (home to the Pirates, go bucks!) and Heinz Field (home to the Stillerz, as we call them in the burgh). Some are farther than others, but there's always the shuttle if it's in our frigid winter season. In the summer, go for the walk so you can take in the sights! There's also a lot of cute restaurants and bars on East Ohio River Boulevard, which is two streets up from the hotel. My suggestions would be Bistro to Go and Bistro Soul, Rita's Italian Ice (personal fave) or The Priory Bakery for dessert! There's also Legends North Shore not far on E. North Ave. about two streets up from E. Ohio and Amani Coffee Shop and Cafe for a quick stop for coffee or a great panini for lunch. It's really a fantastic time to go in the summer because EVERYTHING is within walking distance. Plus they have a great farmers market in the park right along E. Ohio and they have kayaking in the park right by the Aviary. The big kayaking organization, Venture Outdoors is right under the 6th St. Bridge next to PNC Park. You're able to kayak around the three rivers for only $15 an hour! It's a great way to see the city! This is your place for one unique stay, I wouldn't steer you wrong!

Yelp
Even though The Priory is flanked by some questionable areas, my stay was more than adequate. With friendly staff, low key digs and a pretty tasty breakfast buffet, I'd certainly stay there again. Each room is unique, but during my stay, I resided in a king room, #303 and found the following: -Comfy bed with plenty of pillows -Lack of outlets! The only reachable outlet in the open was in the bathroom. All other outlets were buried under desks, behind nightstands/the bed or inaccessible. -A mini fridge, robe and handful of hangers -Nice, moderately sized LG flatscreen with a myriad of channels -Small but clean workout room with a treadmill, elliptical machine, bike, small selection of free weights and a few weight machines -Free WiFi -Teeny-tiny shower in which I practically had to contort myself to shave my legs (and I'm just shy of 5'2") -Comfortable desk with an under desk surge protector/strip of outlets The Prioriy is super unique but still feels very quiet and church like...in a good way!

Yelp
This hotel only cares about their guests when onsite. The moment you depart, they could not care less. I accidentally left a coveted pillow with a silk cover in our room. We contacted L**** immediately upon departure and he indicated that G******e would get back to me as the individual responsible for any items left behind. I offered to pay for the shipping. Follow up calls were met with excuses, delays, lots of dithering...but again not the type of engaged response one looks for as a frequent traveler. We travel through Pittsburgh regularly on our way to Maryland. This property advertises itself as a boutique hotel. Ummm....no. It is a retrofitted old building with minimal amenties. Parking is across the street in a neighborhood where individuals are out all night roaming the neighborhood. AC could not be adjusted, and the bed was about as uncomfortable as they come with a slat that fell out in the middle of the night and the rest of the evening was spent with a sunken mattress. If an arrogant management team who enjoy throwing shade is your thing....this is your place. Other than that, underwhelming at every level including the breakfast. Skip it. I have now been on hold again for another ten minutes....I am done chasing this crew! Believe them when all of their actions tell you who they are!

Yelp
I've attended two weddings here. Both have been amazing. The facility is really nice. The bathrooms are nice. Where this place shines is the food. The food I've had at the weddings has been amazing. The steaks are well prepared, the chicken is awesome, and the mushroom entry for vegetarians is amazing. Both wedding cakes (vanilla and red velvet) have also been awesome. I don't know anything about price, but I really enjoy attending weddings here.

Yelp
Good reasonably priced boutique hotel within walking distance of downtown Pittsburgh. Great friendly staff. Excellent continental breakfast included with room. A former religious institution the ghosts of monks are said to stroll the hallways in the wee hours of the morning. My single bed room was small but comfortable (Rm. 106). Parking for guests with cars next to bldg. in a gated lot. Highly recommended.

Yelp
We stayed here and was initially disappointed-- being new to town, our first impression was that Pittsburgh was a very very bad town full of homeless and degenerates (the area, I find out later, is one of the worst spots in the city!). The hotel is located across the street from a housing authority building. Projects? UGH. Great. Then we were put into a "historical" room that was similar to that of a rundown cheap apartment-- old shower stall, moldy threadbare carpeting, lumpy squeaky bed. I find out an hour later (after freaking out about the lo-end aspect of this room) that they have new rooms that were just recently renovated. I asked to see the room, and then ultimately change to that room-- for a fee, of course. About 50% more expensive. But I pay more because NO WAY would I be able to exist in this old "historical" creepy room. Finally, a regular room-- the "renovated" room was similar to that of an acceptable hotel room. Why even keep this historical, old, dingy, dirty room? Do they figure unsuspecting people who don't know any better will just accept it b/c they have no other choice?? I slept well in the "new" renovated room, and would have been freaked out all night in the old room. What a difference. Actually, the bed and linens were very, very comfortable. The bathroom was nice and clean. The room was what I expected a hotel room to be... not high end four seasons, but not cheap and nasty either. The hotel obviously had availabilities of the new, renovated rooms, so why put us in an old, unrenovated, ugly old apartment looking room? If they believed in upgrading, then they would have at least gotten repeat business!! For those who are going to book here, pay more for the new rooms, or go somewhere else. The option of staying in the old room should not be an option at all. I don't think I will ever go back here if I ever go back to Pittsburgh. I will stay at a chain hotel-- marriot or whatever. What is money except a means to be comfortable and live? I will spend more next time. Breakfast was "eh". It was free-- small stations of some fruit, cheese, small pastries, cereal, yougurt and two hot items: sausage + bacon. OJ, Cranberry, Milk and Coffee also available. Honestly, I felt like I was in college, and watching my pennies (poor), staying here...

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place. Great reviews and a renovated priory--what a great idea! The pictures on the website are beautiful. We found a grumpy old man at the front desk, and he could not have been less interested in our arrival. It felt like we were disturbing him to ask for our room key. But the fun started when we returned later in the evening. We found the rollaway we had requested (and paid for) not present, and I went back down to the old gentleman. He stared at me and then went back to pecking at his computer. I waited. Suddenly he looked up at me and started yelling, something to the effect that there wasn't anything that he could do, and that he would see if someone could do something but probably not. He also angrily admitted that the reservation did show the rollaway. I slunk away with my guest who had by now come down, too, embarrassed and insulted. It shouldn't be this way. If this is personalized service, I'd rather stay at a motel. Even without grumpy old man, there's nothing special about this place. The rooms were ok, but the bathrooms tiny (I guess they should be called showerrooms). Everything else was sub-par. The dining room breakfast was served in was tacky and the coffee awful. We did not dare try the free wine. The hotel is in a bad neighborhood. For the money, find a special at the William Penn on the Omni Hotels website. If you want a boutique hotel, try the Inn on the Mexican War Streets--a beautiful building with friendly owners just across from the National Aviary and that beautiful park. The Priory does not feel boutique and is not worth the hassle. Priory, get grumpy old man out of a customer-facing role.

Yelp
I found the Priory through Expedia after not being able to find a reasonably priced hotel in the downtown area. It is a lovely old German Catholic church that was converted to a B&B 21 years ago. The furniture and interior were beautiful and quaint and cozy. The staff was really nice and helpful. They called me a cab and gave me a good dinner reco (a new restaurant in the neighborhood- Nicki's Thai Kitchen). The hotel also has a free shuttle into downtown during the daytime, which came in handy. They also served complimentary wine and breakfast for guests. A few of the drawbacks: The bathroom was a little old and small and I think could use a rehab, but it was definitely clean and pleasant. I was a little surprised that they called me a cab service that charged me $8 to drive 5 blocks (the cab driver mentioned that he and the woman at the front desk were friends, so it made sense. He was really nice and helpful, so it wasn't that big of a deal). Also, I found out from the same helpful cab driver that the hotel was in a neighborhood that isn't very safe. It actually sits pretty close to the Commons- one of Pittsburgh's projects. Safety was okay for me, as I was only there one night and took cabs to where I needed to be, but based on what I heard, it's definitely not safe to walk around the area after dark and may be a factor for consideration, especially for women traveling on their own. All in all, this was a very nice experience. I really appreciate the fact that there are unique and historic types of lodging like the Priory in American cities- as they are so much more charming than major chains. I'd stay there again the next time I'm in Pittsburgh.

Yelp
Such a cute hotel! I like to find non-chain hotels, but sometimes that can be scary... The Priory was great! Lots of character, not at all scary, very clean, modern, comfy - all the things you want in a hotel. Well - the beds COULD be more comfortable. It amazes me that hotel reviews rarely mention the bed. To me, that is the most important part. The bed: Too hard, for one thing. The linens were great, very soft, and the comforter was perfect - light but warm. However, the headboard was only loosely connected to the bed and - well, let's just say noisy. We only stayed one night, so can't expand too much. Breakfast didn't look too appetizing, so we went elsewhere. The stairs are very squeaky but you can't hear them inside the rooms. The elevator is great. The bar was nice - small, but a great place to stop for a nightcap on your way back in for the evening. I had made some specific request - away from the elevator, not facing the street, etc. - they fulfilled all of them. I love it when a hotel pays attention! We would absolutely recommend The Priory!

Yelp
We stayed there two nights and it was terrific. We stayed in one of the townhouses. It was perfect. It was clean, spacious, with all the conveniences. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast provided was very good. The people who worked there really impressed me. They were extremely friendly and helpful. The bartender was fun. Both the shuttle drivers were accommodating and personable. One in particular entertained us each trip with his knowledge and love of the city. I highly recommend The Priory to anyone who is looking for a charming, fun place to stay in Pittsburgh.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here for a weekend getaway. What a neat place! It's a european style hotel (read very nice but smaller rooms). It used to be a monestary back in the day. Built around the turn of the century, it has neat large old molding and furnishings. Owner was very nice, offers complimentary wine in the evening and good full continental breakfast. All of that for only $135 a night! A short ride from everything. Includes free parking.

Yelp
My wife and I stayed at The Priory when we went out to Pittsburgh for Superbowl weekend. The hotel is beautiful inside and out. We don't normally stay in nice hotels, so we were surprised by how nice it was, especially the extremely comfortable king-sized bed. It made for the perfect romantic getaway in a hectic weekend filled with bars, parties, and souvenir shopping on The Strip. There are some things you should know before you book at The Priory, however. The hotel is right across the street from a housing project. There isn't enough parking, especially if The Grand Hall is hosting a wedding when you arrive. If you get a room that is street-adjacent you may be woken up by sounds like people talking or shoveling the sidewalk. Overall, none of these things bothered me that much (aside from getting woken up by the snow shoveler, but I suppose that was better than cracking my head on an icy sidewalk later!). However, if you're the type of person who gets easily annoyed at minor inconveniences or gets uncomfortable around lots of african-americans, you may want to stay at the Doubletree or Westin or something. If you're looking for a charming boutique hotel and you're not afraid of being on the North Side, you should definitely check out The Priory.

Yelp
This place has been fabulous. The Monks bar is amazing. Rachel is a fantastic bartender. The history and atmosphere is remarkable and the breakfast is delicious.

Yelp
This review was based on a 2 night stay when I was in Pittsburgh to attend a conference. I chose it mainly because it was fairly close to downtown and fairly reasonably priced, but ended up enjoying my stay there. Some specifics: Service: Quite friendly. When I showed up 3 hours before the "official" check-in time they rushed to get my room ready so I could check in a couple hours early. Room (I had a "standard" room): Nice enough. The bed was comfortable, the area was quiet enough at night to get a good night's sleep, and the all important chocolates on the pillow were tasty. The bathroom was a bit small, and only featured a shower. Atmosphere: Lovely. It was the sort of place that cried out for a good book, a hot cup of tea, and a long, lazy afternoon. In fact, I noticed in from the guestbook that at least some of the guests were Pittsburgh folk coming in to enjoy the coziness of the place. Location: In terms of accessibility to everything, excellent. I was easily able to walk across the river to downtown and the convention center. The neighborhood did seem a bit sketchy (especially walking under the highway to get back from downtown), but its an inexpensive cab ride from downtown if you're heading back after dark. Price: Reasonable enough, especially compared with places nearby (my "standard" room was $140 per night)

Yelp
I have had the honor of writhing with the Priory for several weddings. No only is the venue stunning but the dedication to detail and customer service are impeccable! I highly recommend there wine tasting events, very generous tastings always combined with fabulous food. The company and music is always the perfect mix of fun and class. If you love history, architecture, and a boutique hotel this is your place

Yelp
We chose the Priory for our Anniversary getaway because we wanted something less commercialized, more B&B. Very pleased. The feel is definitely more quaint than standard cookie cutter hotels. The old architecture is simply beautiful with such lovely character. It was so nice to walk into the front entry without feeling like stepping into a big brick box. The check-in desk was even lovely. And off the the left is a sitting room with an old (non gas!) fire place in plain view. How perfect when you're so intent on avoiding the commercial feel. Some parts of hotel, like carpet down certain hallways, show a bit of wear. But the overall design and layout with the super high ceilings is completely inviting. Like I said, totally nothing like walking into mainstream hotels. Score! The staff at the desk were super. And Henry, the shuttle driver, was right there which also lends to that more personal touch as opposed to the big business structure. Henry did end up picking us up that night from the Gateway Clipper. That was a nice bonus. We were prepared to call for a Lyft but didn't need to which was cool. And his driving didn't scare me like most everyone else's does. Some reviews talk about the neighborhood being questionable. Indeed, it's not upscale but it's certainly not "bad". It's a decent older street. Haven't seen anything that isn't common. I get the feeling people that take issue with the area expect such a nice hotel to be located in a high end area. But this is Pittsburgh with lots of old stuff. Capitalizing on this old monastery's charm, keeping it nice, and utilizing it to bless the people that visit Pittsburgh was a great idea and is a fantastic asset to the history of the city. If someone's concerned about safety, simply don't go on walks alone. After all, that's protocol anywhere anymore in this world, right? Our room was in the newer wing and was as pretty as the pictures on the internet. Loved it. The furniture is so beautiful. Drapes are great. Wifi was 4 bars out of 5 the whole time with two of us on laptops. Very clean. Bed and pillows very comfortable; quality. You can tell they put a bit more thought and money into details to give your stay a nicer feel. Room service (from external vendor) was decent, good subs, nice Italian rolls. Nice Greek Salad. I only wished there was more than subs, pizza and pasta on the menu. Of course, we could have gone out somewhere else but... The continental breakfast was beautiful (again, not commercialized feeling) and the pastries and bagels were super fresh. They had nice meat trays with ham (not lunch meat) but also a very nice tasting selection of salami slices; etc. The young gentleman overseeing the breakfast did a great job, was dressed professionally and was very splendid. My only "almost" issue is I wonder why we couldn't get our room warmer. We turned up the thermostat but the room temperature never went higher than 69.5 degrees. It was only slightly chilly, however. Wasn't enough of an issue to call the front desk to see if something can be done. All in all, so glad we chose the Priory. It was nice paying the same as any other place but getting away from big business. We'll definitely be going back.

Alex R.

Yelp
This place is super cool and I've never experienced better hospitality. The staff is friendly and helpful. I've never experienced service like this. It's like you went back in time. The hotel is historic and unique. We're so glad we stayed here. There is a free shuttle that will take you almost anywhere you want to go in the city. The rooms are on the smaller side, but certainly adequate. They have a newer side to the hotel and an older side. We've stayed in both, and the old side certainly has more character, but both are nice.

Yelp
I ended up here after another hotel turned out to be a nightmare. It was a great experience from the initial phone call to reserve a room to the time I checked out. When I called I explained that my brother was in the hospital and I wasn't sure how long I would need the room. I was reassured that it would be no problem. I was exhausted the first night when I checked in, and the front desk staff and another gentleman (sorry guys, I was so stressed I did not get names) were amazing. The room was adorable, and I had some nice views from my windows. The bed was a little hard, but I'm okay with that. I spent a little time in the Monk bar. I don't drink, but the drinks sounded amazing. The food was good, and I can recommend the flatbread. I used the shuttle daily to and from the hospital, and it was always right there on the spot. The drivers were all really great. The driver that picked me up at night always had classical music playing, and it was very soothing after spending the day at the hospital. The same gentleman asked me about my family member in the hospital, and told me how happy he was to hear his surgery was a success and to tell him the shuttle driver wished him the best. Breakfast was included, and I had one of the best doughnuts I've ever tasted. Housekeeping did a great job. No heavy chemical smells or overly perfumed cleaning products like some hotels were used in my room. All in all, I would definitely stay here again (I just don't want it to be because I have a family member in the hospital). One last thing that made it super amazing and fantastic...according to the book about the hotel in my room Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston) stayed there. So cool.

Yelp
I was here for a wedding reception back in February, and it was gorgeous!! Everything was nicely done. The decor was beautiful. As far as I know from the bride and groom, everything was handled well, too.
