Went for the tea menu at 12 noon. The atmosphere was great! The high ceilings and classical music really add to the ambience. Huge applause to the pianist who played for an hour! The music was so so good! The tables are spaced out very well too, so it made the experience very private. We felt that the green pea savoury bites were super good, wished there were more! Scones were pretty standard. And the raspberry shortbread dessert bite was super good! Jane Austen tea was really good! Tasted like earl grey with earthy notes and a tinge of rooibos flavour at the end. You can get a glimpse of the Roman Baths from the pump room too!

I booked a Jane Austen Afternoon Tea for a party of 4 midweek and we loved every minute of the experience! From the entrance all the way to our table the service and staff were outstanding. The live music was a great touch. The menu looked good, but I have to admit, the food and drinks were not AS delicious as some of the other tea times that we’ve had. The Darcy cocktail sounded so promising but was a bit too bitter and flat. What you are paying for is definitely the ambiance and location. You feel like you’re sitting in a room full of so much rich history that I would’ve paid 2x more for this feeling. You’re also able to taste the spring water from the King’s fountain in this tea room. We loved it very much and would certainly book again.

The afternoon tea experience was enjoyable. I did find the setting a bit crowded, and the other guests tended to the T-shirt wearing type. Nonetheless, the service was good and the food was excellent. The Pump Room is beautiful and imbued with history.

We came here for brunch/breakfast. I had the poached egg with salmon which was lovely. We also had two cocktails. The atmosphere is nearly like from a fairytale especially with the pianist playing. Definitely recommend to anybody.

My daughter treated me to a lovely Jane Austen afternoon tea . It was amazing with such a lovely atmosphere. Definitely be coming again fingers crossed.

Google
My friend and I attended the 4pm afternoon tea. It was such an elegant and enjoyable experience! The musical trio was excellent and the room absolutely stunning. The staff were attentive and friendly, and didn't rush us (even though we were the last table to leave, which was very appreciated). I appreciated the chance to try the famous Bath "waters" from the fountain as well. Expensive, but still an experience I would recommend.

Google
My daughter and I had the most wonderful experience having tea at the Pump Room! Some reviews I read had been somewhat concerning regarding the quality and freshness of the food, but we found everything exceptional and delicious. Thank you for an amazing afternoon treat, in every regard!

Google
Gorgeous! Gorgeous! Had the most fabulous cream tea for an elderly relative visiting us in Bath from Geneva. Huge thanks to the wonderful James who accommodated us and made our visit so lovely! Great staff team!

Yelp
We had a reservation for 12pm after we visited the Roman baths. They opened right at that time so there were a few parties queued as they were opening. We were brought to our table and a waitress came over to ask us for our tea order. Then our food items were brought out. We kept a menu so I was able to read what item was. Then a man came out and played piano for us. The ambiance was very nice and service was very good. However, the savory choices were not great and mostly seafood which my fiancé doesn't really like. The sweets were good. We didn't finish everything which is unfortunate since afternoon teas are not cheap. Also, the pot of tea did not hold the heat well enough so our tea got too cold/cool too fast.

Yelp
The Pump Room was incredible. Reserve in advance. If you are like me and planning way in advance and have limited availability, reach out, their customer service is fantastic and they will do anything they can to assist you. I went for afternoon tea (they have 3 seatings per day of tea and one seatings of brunch). It really is an experience, from when you are waiting to check in and get to see the timeline of the Pump Room's rich history, to when you walk in and are greeted by the performing trio followed by a pianist. They have starters you can add, but they give so much food with the seating, that I would recommend really thinking about if you need the starters, or saving room earlier in the day for the starters. It is a more expensive tea experience, but completely worth the cost. I don't know if they do refills of food, but they do for tea, and we honestly were so full after one serving of everything that even if they did offer refills, we would not have been able to eat more (although I would have tried for more lobster brioche rolls which were so delicious). If you have a birthday, the trio will play happy birthday and you get an extra dessert, so let them know.

Yelp
Wonderful historic tea house. As a vegetarian it can be a little difficult finding quality high tea. The food was delicious, unique and decadent. My partner and I tried a total of 4 different tea's, and they all were rich with flavor. Not only is the service good, but we arrived with no reservations (this was a spur of the moment idea we had) 5 minutes before they closed their doors, and were still seated properly, and never felt rushed. If you don't want to spend the money to see the Roman Bath's but would like to see the main pool the Pump Room is right for you. They have a window overlooking the pool Though, I do recommend spending the money and touring the whole bath house.

Yelp
The Pump Room is an historic Georgian tea room named for the springs of mineral water, with a fountain providing the water to the room for guests to drink. It was built as part of the rapid development of Bath in the 18th century, under Beau Nash and others, into a major and fashionable resort destination. It is attached to the remains of the old Roman bath complex, which can be toured, next to Bath Abbey. I have had tea here every time I've been to Bath and always enjoy it, including this recent visit. The food was great, the ambience lovely and there has always been nice gently live music. We booked ahead of time.

Yelp
This was my second time here and the first time for the rest of my family. I really wanted my family to experience this place and was really hoping it was as great as I remember. Well, I'm reporting now that it is. And I would say even better than I remember it. The service was spot on, the food was delicious (such a wonderful afternoon tea), and the live piano and string trio was so talented. It felt a little like Bridgerton because of their classical take on modern pop songs. But they also played the actual classics: Bach, Mozart, Vivaldi, etc. We all got the regular afternoon tea without the champagne upgrade. We did, however, get the plate of smoked salmon added and that was worth it. However, we would question this decision as there was definitely more than enough food for everyone. Most of us didn't get to even finish all of our tea cakes and sandwiches. They will let you take the rest home so it's ok. Don't forget to try a little cup the actual water from the hot springs. Don't get too much, though, unless you like mineraly, slightly-salty water.

Yelp
This is a fancy place. But you should at lease try it once. The "pump" is where you can get a class of water from the Roman baths next door to try. I didn't. The food is okay. A little pricy but the experience is worth it.
google avatar

Yelp
Pure magic. The Pump Room treats you to an elegant tea complete with a live pianist. It's worth visiting simply for the historic significance alone, but aside from that, the food is lovely, the staff is friendly, and the place is beautiful.

Yelp
Went to the pump room for a champagne brunch superb food and the staff is warm and welcoming.

Yelp
The Grand Pump Room is a historic building in the Abbey Church Yard, Bath, Somerset, England. It is adjacent to the Roman Baths and is named for water that is pumped into the room from the baths' hot springs. Visitors can drink the water or have other refreshments while there. The building is iconic, regal and typical English. we came here for my Mothers birthday and they played Happy birthday on the piano especially for her, which was very sweet. The service is second to non in this elegant room. TREAT YOURSELF

Yelp
We arrived at the Roman Baths and Mrs G wanted to dine in the Pump Room (literally part of the same building that houses the baths) so before we bought our tickets for the Baths I walked through the connecting doors to try to make a lunch reservation (it was around 11:45). Was told it was fully booked (despite some apparently empty tables) but if we wanted lunch just come back at 1:30-2pm and we would get a table (lunch stops at 2:30 to be replaced by afternoon tea which is poorly reviewed) Returned at 1:30 and asked to sit and wait. Grabbed a lunch menu - posted pic). Waited around 15 minutes - same empty (large) tables that they apparently didn't want to (or couldn't) re-arrange. Just didn't get a good vibe, no aromas to entice us, and was having difficulty finding something in the lunch menu that tempted us. The staff and the ambience seemed stuck up and not friendly at all. So we decided to walk and find somewhere else - so glad we did - the amazing Raphael... So based on the feel, staff and ambience we would not return - no reflection on the food because we never got that far!!

Yelp
High Tea in the most beautiful setting! We absolutely loved the architecture, the history, the beautiful, live, piano music, the delicious treats and our lovely waitress. It was delightfully and inspiring! An experience I'll remember for a lifetime!

Yelp
This is apparently one of the best places to have high tea in Bath, and I am really glad that I decided to come here even though I was traveling solo. They do take reservations, so I would highly recommend making one as it does get busy. However, I was a walk-in and they were able to accommodate me. They have a live music, which provides entertainment or background music depending on your outlook. For me, it was background music as I had immersed myself in a fictional book set in Bath. But there was a couple there who appeared to have come solely for a spot of tea and to enjoy the music comprising of a piano, cello and violin. The tea selection was really good, as you would expect, and they had plenty of other options as well. And the traditional tea tray was full of both savory and sweet goodies that were delicious. There are also other options to select from besides the traditional tea tray, and they also serve breakfast and lunch. The setting and and ambiance were lovely as it overlooks parts of the old Roman ruins. The tasting of the Bath waters is also doable in the restaurant.

Yelp
This place is a must when visiting Bath. They do high tea but also meals. We had the lunch entree. Overall it is very nice but gets very busy and gets lots of tourists. My tip is to make reservations. You can even use open table, which we did and got squeezed in.

Yelp
I took my mom to the Pump Room while we were visiting Bath so that we could have tea and scones (*not* proper afternoon tea, just the fruit scones with butter and strawberry jam, a pot of English Breakfast, and a pot of Earl Grey off their morning menu - just the right amount of nibbles before a day of exploring and, let's be honest, more nibbles elsewhere!). I think it was an absolutely lovely introduction to the city for her. That being said, do I think it's the best tea and scones in the city? I do not. But it's fun to check out once: it's got such a fancy atmosphere, but is still pretty welcoming to folks right off the street in their jeans and tees. It can get really busy, and I know they frequently have live music playing, but if you come first thing after they open (10am) it's pretty quiet (re: no music, no people).

Yelp
A must see place when in Bath. They have different types of fixed menus. The best part of this place is it's historic value and thermal water. Lots or Roman history and wonderful live music played

Yelp
I am absolutely disgusted by the demeanor of one of the waitresses here. If I could leave a 0 star review, I would. We came here to enjoy some afternoon tea, which was recommended to us as a "must-do" activity in the U.K. Let me preface by saying that the individuals who seated us were actually very courteous. We were excited to order one of those 3-tier stacked plates to enjoy with some tea. Our waiter, by the way, was also helpful, and I wish we asked HIM the following question rather than the waitress who answered it. The question was simple: is this cream cheese? She replied to us, WHILST ROLLING HER EYES, "no - it's cream". We asked her one more time to clarify, AS WE ARE NOT FROM THIS COUNTRY, "oh... so it's not cheese!" (because it tasted like cheese) and she AGAIN rudely dismissed us as if we were stupid. After this short but truly disappointing encounter, I was left with nothing but a bad taste in my mouth. I honestly don't know whether or not she had a bad day... or whether she was RACIST, because she was pleasant to everyone else except to us. It's really unfortunate that you couldn't take 3 seconds of your time to be pleasant with PAYING customers. I don't know what prompted her to act with such hostility. We asked you a simple question. We didn't expect the nasty attitude. I am absolutely flabbergasted and disgusted at how the waitress responded. It's too bad the entire experience of "afternoon tea" will be forever ruined because of this first AND LAST experience. Never again. The host/manager came to promptly apologize for her rudeness, which is why my friend will not be leaving a 1-star review, as well, but let me tell you right now that we cannot believe this is how we are ending our trip to the U.K.

Yelp
FINALLY! I had tea in the Pump Room! I'm a huge Jane Austen fan and this was a must see while I was in Bath. We showed up at around 3pm on a Monday for afternoon tea. I thought we'd be queued up and have to wait but we walked right up and were immediately shown to a table in front of the piano player. Gotta love off season! Our server greeted us quickly and took our order - afternoon tea with two different types of teas (Earl Grey for me and a fruity one for hubs) with their standard tea snack setup - there was a macaroon, strawberry cheesecake tart, scones with clotted cream and jam, tea sandwiches, some chocolate cake and some cookies. Yum yum yum. Meanwhile I also ordered a chicken club sandwich and it was SO delicious. I didn't intend to eat all of it but I scarfed it down like it might run off my plate. Haha. Our food was out quickly, everything tasted great, the tea was delicious and I was a pretty happy girl by the end of the meal. No complaints at all here.

Yelp
The traditional afternoon tea was a lovely experience for our group. We were a larger party and OpenTable said there was no space to accommodate us. After I emailed them, I received a response and we were booked! Service is fine - waitstaff do not hover and are attentive to your needs. They allow accommodations to the orders, which was great for us. Free refills means lots of tea! Delicious snacks as well. The setting is beautiful. An ornate room with a live string quartet makes you feel like you've been transported to a fancy reception. There is no dress code so that makes things easier for people on vacation. Would highly recommend this tea experience.

Yelp
The Pump Room would attract business even if they served people dog food since people eat here because they're tourists, because they read about the Pump Room in an old novel, because the room is beautiful. I doubt locals say "let's eat at the Pump Room because they have the best food or most creative cuisine." Having said that, I was pleasantly surprised that the food wasn't bad. In fact, our pastries were pretty good (the traditional bath bun was only ok) as were the cold refreshing drinks. The room is beautiful and a musical trio (piano, violin, and cello) performed on the stage while we were there. The Bath spa water was interesting tasting and not as bad as I thought it might be.

Yelp
So we had tea here after touring the Roman Bath. It was my 1st time having afternoon tea in England so I was looking forward to it. My cousin, who is English, says this place is pretty grand. We settled on 2 regular English teas and 2 champagne teas, reasoning we'll sample both options. So the ambiance & decor is fancy schmancy with the servers dressing semi-formal and proper. Our server was awfully friendly and had a quick wit about her. The food was good. I discovered that the Brits take their scones with jam & clotted cream, which is damn delicious. I was told to slather a glob of that stuff on my scones to which I said, "this can't be good for my arteries." But alas, I'm on vacation so to hell with caution.
google avatar

Yelp
So after you finish wandering through the Roman Bath, you can opt to wander into the pump room. People were having very fancy lunch/tea, but I just popped in for a quick drink of the waters. I had been warned that I might be charged for my sip but the person who served us did not collect any money. The other people at the fountain were not fans, but I drink mineral water all the time, so I thought it was tasty if a bit weird that it was hot. I don't know that I would have stopped to eat, but to try the waters was a must for me.
google avatar

Leslie K.

Yelp
We didn't do afternoon tea but it sure was tempting. I had a cheddar shallot tart; my partner had a crab pate with salad. Everything was delicious plus we. We're treated to live music. Firs one man played piano and then he returned with a violin and cello player.
google avatar

Yelp
A not-to-miss Bath experience with a rich history and a great view of a section of the Roman Bath. Classic English ambience with great upkeep to enjoy either lunch or afternoon tea. The service is superb, good qualify food and very reasonably priced.

Yelp
I love having high tea in LA, but even more in the UK. I had to beg my friend to come to high tea with me since he said it was considered to be super posh and not of the norm. But being my tourist self I demanded we go. Beautiful high ceilings, with gold accents everywhere, and wonderful pianist. We had the TRADITIONAL PUMP ROOM TEA, which by photos in yelp it may seem like not a lot of food, however you get full as you work your way up/ down the plates of food. If you're in Bath I highly recommend coming for high tea. Just don't forget to make a reservation in advance. ENJOY!

Yelp
We somehow cheekily got a table on bank holiday weekend - on a Sunday afternoon which was fully booked ! We hadn't reserved and it only took 15 minutes for us to be seated - first win!! Food was amazing !!! They did roast beef with radish on this special two course menu - and the starters was more beef with oxtail and this stuffed potato - similarly delicious. Both courses were high quality and a great advertisement for British food which I am normally not terribly find of. I was pleasantly surprised. The carrot soup starter was also delish ! - second win !! The place is awesome - spread out, relaxed and quite pretty - almost like a wedding venue! - third win!! We had a tour leaving shortly after and the waitress was kind enough to get us our food as soon as and settle the bill pretty quick - great service! - fourth win!! The icing on the cake was the pianist - wow !! She came in as soon as we sat down and played some amazing tunes ranging from Ludovico Einaudi passagio, Disneys colours of the wind, to Abba and seal. - fifth win!! And that's why you get five stars pump room. You can't miss this place when in bath !!

Yelp
Not impressed with the afternoon tea, not worth the £27. The sandwiches felt/tasted like it's been sitting out, with the bread stale and unevenly cut. No proper table settings, servers seemed to be over their job while there. The desserts left more to be desired, with some being hard/stale at the edges. Overall, would not recommend.
google avatar

Yelp
My first high tea experience in the UK! The Pump Room wasn't included in an article I read listing the 25 best tea rooms in the UK, but Yelp reviews and several family members who are familiar with the British tea experience highly recommended it. I'm glad I listened because finishing our tour of the Roman Baths with high tea on site was superb! My husband and I chose the afternoon tea package for £22 per person which included one of each of the following: 3 types of sandwiches, salmon pate, bruschetta, scones (2 each), 5 different desserts, and hot tea or coffee. Honestly, everything we tasted was delicious even though I was skeptical when I read some of the ingredients on the menu. We both chose hot tea that was The service had been excellent until we were finished and waiting for our bill and hoping anxiously for our server to see us stretching our necks to get his attention. We saw him look our way several times but still didn't come to ask what we needed. Finally, another server caught on and helped us finalize the bill and package up the desserts (as the rest of the food was plentiful). The setting itself is gorgeous with high ceilings, live piano music for part of our time there, and as I mentioned being on the site of the historic Roman Baths. Overall, I wouldn't trade the experience of dining here for the world as it was a great memory to make and was well worth the price. Definitely do the Roman Baths tour and dine here before or after, and ask about the special package deal if you choose to do the Thermae Spa bath/pool experience as well!

Yelp
Not impressed with their afternoon tea. I came to Bath expecting an authentic English experience, but sadly left realizing that I've had better afternoon tea experiences in Victoria, Canada and Seattle, WA. You're paying for the ambience, which is wonderful with live music, but it doesn't make up for the subpar food quality. Their house tea was absolutely wonderful, but some of the food items looked like they had been in a freezer a few hours prior. Definitely not fresh food at all. Find somewhere better in Bath, there's other options!
google avatar

Jeff C.

Yelp
I've been to the pump room about 4 or 5 times, and I have to say that the experience has always been enjoyable, if not a bit touristy. It is a lovely spot for tea, and it should be tried at least once in your life, for the decor alone would make Jane Austin proud. However, my favorite thing to do is purchase a glass of warm water from the baths an 18th century character who always claims imbibing the water is good for your health. I don't know about its legendary health benefits. It taste pretty nasty, but hey still alive and kicking so maybe there is something to it. In any event, don't look for it to be bottled and distributed in your local 7-11 anytime soon.

Yelp
We were told that breakfast or afternoon tea at the Pump Room is a must on a visit to Bath. We had to make reservations for the next day since they were fully-booked. I was looking forward to the experience after all the hype, but was unfortunately disappointed. The food did not live up to my expectations at all. The service was also so-so. I understand it was the holiday season, but nothing was worth the price we were paying. I'm being generous - the stars go to the elegant architecture and the classical music trio serenading us, not the food or the service.

Yelp
DISCLAIMER: Last time I was here, it was before Yelp came to the UK, and before Yelp existed, I think. We're talking 2004. So why am I writing this review now? Because I just had to.... I came to Bath, by myself, as a Jane Austen junkie. I went to the Jane Austen museum, the Roman Bath museum, and just had to have lunch in the Pump Room. How could I not? I'm a Jane Austen junkie, and true to form, pretended that I was Catherine Morland (from Northanger Abbey), reading my Gothic novel (Bridget Jones' Diary!!!) under the chandelier. The room is beautiful and still maintains the charm of yesteryears. The spring water is still bubbling in a fountain nearby. You can actually try it. The food was overpriced but was pretty good. This was an experience I'll always cherish....No matter how overpriced, and snooty the servers were.
google avatar

Song K.

Yelp
I'm a fan overall. My friend that was with me stated that the food was not as good as it was when she had afternoon tea in Seattle which was disappointing since we were in England after all. But this could be due to the fact that the expectations were high and our palettes are geared towards a US taste. The Tea experience was good and the presentation was definitely fun. We also had live music via strings and more of a formal feel. The pricing was not too shabby for the entire experience in which I would rate average.
google avatar

Bin X.

Yelp
If you had only one chance to experience the traditional (albeit stereotypical) British afternoon tea, this would be IT. Well worth the 17 pounds for full tea set of finger sandwiches, scones, and petit fours. I didn't go there expecting superb pastries or sandwiches, but really for the experience. Nothing beats sipping tea with a raised pinkie, while swaying to the background string quartet in such a posh surrounding. The clotted cream is exceptional, easily something to die for or from.

Yelp
The Pump room is the afternoon high tea place in bath that is located next-door to the popular roman bath. They are connected and you can actually see the roman bath in the windows facing the inside of the building. The pump room is popular with tourists and locals it seems so expect a wait/turned down if you didnt make a reservation. It is very traditional afternoon tea from the layout with the traditional furniture and classical music coming from the string instrument and piano to the food selections such as scones, and tea sandwiches. the place overall though is beautiful. the menu is simple but I recommend getting one of the sets located at the top of the menu. I got the one with smoke salmon whichever one that was lol. It basically comes with a tea of your choice (they give you a tea menu), champagne, your main dish, and your desserts. The food was so-so, I've had better at other high tea places around the world. I gotta say though the ice cream is pretty darn good. Service was so-so because it was slow and my waiter laid out my silverware wrong -_- lol. Overall, I had a good time but I think one time here is good enough for me. If you have never been I def suggest going once. This is a place more for elderly people to go for high tea, but for my generation, we might prefer somewhere in london more.

Yelp
I was worried that this would be a tourist trap but it's totally not. I enjoyed having afternoon tea here while visiting the city of Bath. Their afternoon tea is pricey but not overly expensive. I think the ambiance and service makes up for it. I ordered scones and Jasmine tea, their clotted cream and strawberry jam that accompanies the scone was addicting and absolutely delicious! Well worth a visit!

Yelp
This was an Amazing place for lunch & creme tea. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs , and we had to put a halt on all the yummy food. Our waitress Serena was Excellent & very accommodating . The decor was fabulous & made us feel we were dining in the past. Having a taste of the original waters was kinda warm & full of minerals . Looking out the viewing balcony made us see how the Romans might have bathed. A must see & dining experience !!

Tarin K.

Yelp
We went there for afternoon tea. The food was just okay and the service was poor (we had to keep hailing people as they came by, no one was checking on customers). At ~£30 per person (£27 + "10% discretionary service charge") I'd expect at least one of the two to be good.

Yelp
TOURIST TRAP!!!!!! I went to the pump room 7 or so years ago and I thought it was delightful. So when family came to visit I thought the ladies in the group would enjoy the experience. The decor was nice and the bread was good. The rest was rubbish. Soggy sandwiches, over cooked lamp, prawns that were drowning in dressing, and other just unimpressive over priced food. Topped that with severs that could care less. I had better service at places to get my oil changed. It was a huge let down and embarrassment to bring my family there. You might have a better meal with some of the other street vendors and other places to eat in the city. Next time I have people that want to go to the Bath the pump room will not even be brought up for consideration. Avoid.
google avatar

Caitlin V.

Yelp
Definitely come here and have your high tea experience. The history of this space right next to the Roman Baths is super interesting - and everything was very delicious. Very delicate sandwiches and gorgeous biscuits and the cakes were to die for. The setting was relaxed but very special at the same time.
google avatar

Yelp
I have to say that despite this place being a tourist trap the only thing going for this place is the ambiance. The live pianist and classical ensemble were definitely a highlight, as was the room its self with high ceilings and exquisite furnishings. Unfortunately everything else was average I got the impression that the food was not fresh. We ate at 2pm and I could tell that the scones were old. They were very hard which made me think that they were baked early in the morning and had been sitting around all day. Ditto some of the delicacies. We had a mini tart and the crust was soggy when it should have been crispy. One of our petit cakes was also very soggy and stuck to the plate. The sandwiches were alright but even then some of the bread was a little dry on the outside. The service was not exceptional by any means. Our server was very forthright and borderline rude when I asked for some cream to put in my fruit tea. Yes you can put cream in mango tea and it wont curdle. There are many many other places to enjoy tea in Bath. I suggest you try one and stay away from this place.
google avatar

Jeannette M.

Yelp
The review would be five stars just for the ambience and history. The full tea that we had was just fine. Our favorite on our trip actually. The staff was attentive but not overbearing. They allowed substitutions and were very accommodating. They had a band playing music of the period, which just added to the magic of the Pump Room. Highly recommended just for the historical significance. Don't forget to take the waters.

You can't come to Bath and not have afternoon tea here. Fabulous setting and at peak times they have a string quartet playing. The afternoon tea is excellent if pricey and an experience not to be missed. Don't forget to have a glass of the warm mineral water from the pump as well - it's great!

Yelp
Ahh yes the Pump Room :) What a fun experience! High tea in the UK. Quite fancy with live musicians playing classical music, beautiful china and table settings, and tasty dessert treats. My sister and I had a lot of fun with this experience. The location is great because its right off of a major courtyard in the city.

Yelp
When in Bath, you have to visit the Roman Baths and right next door is the Pump Room with its elegant dining room serving tea. Yes, it's touristy but at least it's elegant touristy. The west country afternoon tea is nice and not as expensive as the Ritz and arguably in more historic surroundings. They do also serve most substantive meals for lunch and dinner Of course, the other curiosity is the chance to drink some of the water from the pump. It won't be fatal but the warm, slightly salty water may just ruin the lingering taste of your lovely afternoon tea so try it before you eat!

Yelp
I'm sure this was an authentic tea experience, but the food was just awful. Lovely service, lovely restaurant, disgusting and overpriced tea time.

Yelp
Elegant setting. Poor food. Terrible service. For more details .... the culminating state of the "Pump Room," be it the mediocre food, the classical pianist playing "The Imperial March", or the service which was far less than a busy local pub, is nothing but paradoxical. You walk in to a wonderfully, almost idyllically, decorated restaurant, and are served food that simply does not match the grand atmosphere (which slowly shifts as the pianist begins his take on the infamous Harry Potter soundscape).

Yelp
Being a Jane Austin's ardent fan I had to admit that I fell in love with the place (Bath). My sister made a reservation for a party of 4(thankfully) as there was a decent amount of waittime. I'd recommend reserving esp on a weekend as you r visiting a decently densed touristy area of bath. We were made to sit by the fountain indoor (u can request this) and the waitress was very courtious and cordial to us. We ordered two champagne pump room tea and a traditional pump room tea. It was quick while we were enjoying the live piano music in a huge ballroom like an area that gave us the feeling of having noon tea in a palace. I liked the sandwiches the most. However, what I wish could have been better is the amount of desserts and sandwiches where not balanced and where off a little. Like there were three sandwich bites and 2 scones goat cheese and cucumber and the rest where macaroons tarts and lots more desserts which was a little overwhelming. The tea was good and they didn't have a wide choice. Over all I'd say that it's a good experience to have

Yelp
Four stars for the location alone. This is why you come: not for the tea, but the fact that you're having tea in the Pump Room. And, if you're daring, try the water. Yes, it tastes like blood, but it's one of those experiences you'll remember forever (as the taste lingers in your mouth...). Service isn't great, prices are high, and the tea is so-so. It's not BAD, but it's not special. Again, you're paying for the gorgeous location and the view of the baths. Not the scones or the Earl Grey. I will go ahead and recommend the Bath bun, though. It's a local specialty. I wasn't crazy about the lump of sugar in the middle, which just fell out onto my plate when I split the bun open, but the bun itself was tasty enough. If you are visiting Bath you should make a trip out here just to say you've been. Taking tea under the statue of Beau Nash is not an experience to be missed. You may even spot a celebrity or two-- I know some folks who ran into Emma Thompson here once. So keep your eyes open.

Yelp
You can feel the decadence of this place. Walking in the high ceiling and beautiful lighting take your breath away. Then to top it off there's a piano player. The food came out smoothly even though there were gaps between. It seemed as if they were slightly understaffed. So go with some patience. Everything I ate there was fantastic.
