Yelp
Yay! My first Yelp review of a hotel/serviced apartment in HK! Been dragging my feet too long on this one. Let me cut straight to the chase.
I have been missing HK big time (no thanks also to all you Yelpers posting all the drooling pics of HK in Yelp ... especially Rob and Dan!). So, in my last leg of my Japan Trip in May this year, I decided to stop over in HK for 3 nights to satisfy my longing for HK food, especially for Wanton Mee - my fav of all HK foods!
Chose this serviced apartment based on the reviews I read from Agoda and other websites. It was a good choice. Why 5 stars? Here's why:
1. Great location: Being situated near to 2 MTR (subway) stations - Sheung Wan and Hong Kong Stations - makes it all so convenient! Sheung Wan is a shorter walk away at about 5 min, but I much prefer to walk to HK Station as there are lots more to see when I take a 10 min walk from the serviced apartment to the station.
2. Service Staff: 6 stars! Enjoyed simply excellent service from the front desk, especially from the young lady Janet. I interacted with her a lot during my 3 days stay, and she was really very professional, warm and made me feel at home.
3. Luxurious Bathroom: It is one of the biggest bathrooms (in HK anyways) of a HK hotel that I have stayed in. I enjoyed my nightly soaks in the long bath tub and I love everything about the bathroom. Love the L'occitane toiletries they provide and the well-lit vanity mirror which made putting on my makeup so much easier. Especially love the retro light green tiled interior of the bathroom.
My only bug-bear about the bathroom is the relatively loud ventilation sounds emanating from the ventilation fans. I highlighted this to the service staff and they were very apologetic about it. But, I think as this is an old building, there is nothing much they can do about it, unless they do an entire tear-down of the AC and ventilation system. Because of this slightly irritating white noise, I would give the hotel 4.5 stars. But there are no 1/2 stars in Yelp, so I would thus still give it a 5-stars ; )
4. Excellent view: It was fun to peek out into my neighbours across the street every night (I am no voyeur lol, but the next building is located just a couple of metres away) and to look down to see the people walking along the narrow street at night. The view at night from the full glass windows was great, and kind of Wong Kar Wai-esque (fans of the famous HK director WKW would get it)
5. Close to lotsa good eateries: Thanks to Rob's recommendation! I visited Tsim Chai Kee Noodles and I REALLY loved it! I asked the serviced apartment staff for the nearest TCK, and they recommended the one at Queen's Road (see addressbelow). It was only HKD 27 for a big bowl of super delish wanton noodles! #cravingssatisfied.
There are in fact 2 Tsim Chai Kee Noodles near my accommodation and I visited the one that is less well-known:

The other Tsim Chai Kee is situated very near to my serviced apartment. I only found that out on my last night in HK:

6. Complimentary Snacks and Drinks:
The serviced apartment was generous with snacks and water. They have a coffee machine and supplied me a few bottles of water every day which was really great! Such a small gesture but oh so important for thirsty travelers like me ;p
7. Very comfortable Bed & complimentary android phone providing portable wifi
The bed was most most comfortable. Really loved it! & I must mention the complimentary portable wifi service they provide - just make sure their android phone is fully charged and you can use it to provide wifi on the go when you move around the city. Talk about convenience ya! #thumbsup
All in all, this is my best stay in HK so far. Have visited HK 5 times over the course of 26 years. I hope to return to stay in Putman again in the future!
