"The 19th-century, neo-Gothic building that houses The Qvest hotel used to store Cologne’s city archives—and makes for a striking first impression. Inside, surprisingly modern spaces, designed by owner Michael Kaune (famed for his Qvest magazine and passion for art, design, and culture), feature items from his own collection of furniture and photography. While sometimes on the small side, the 34 rooms showcase vintage and original mid-century modern design pieces; for more space, book one of the suites, with historic details like cross vaults, hand-painted wooden ceilings, and Gothic windows, as well as photographs by Roxanne Lowit, Marina Gadonneix, and George Holz, and the occasional grand piano. Guests can also look forward to a slick bar with Eames armchairs that doubles as a breakfast room, and hip, personable staff who can help with exploring the city."

I am a Bonvoy Titanium member and booked 2 rooms a stay at The Qvest Cologne hotel. I assumed that rooms in a hotel of this caliber and price would have air conditioning. The nights were quite miserable as the outside temperature was around +30°C. Nothing worked at this hotel: rude service, no benefits for status members, breakfast wasn't included in the price (if you can even call it breakfast – more like overpriced coffee). The room's decor was minimalistic, if you can even call it decor. The nightstand was a ridiculous "table" that was only 10-15 cm off the floor. The room and corridor were dark. This is all supposedly called a design hotel. Check-in was only allowed a minute early at 14:59, and check-out was at 11 AM. Fortunately, I managed to get a late check-out until 12 PM – wow. Three nights at this hotel, and thankfully they were the last ones. Never again. I don’t understand why Marriott has chosen this overpriced hotel as a partner. Over 300 euros for a basic room per night.

What a find! Loved this gem of a hotel. Beautiful conversion from an historic building. Excellent service from a team that really cares about the guest experience. Great location to walk almost anywhere within 30 minutes. You need to embrace the quirkiness of a hotel “fitting into” the former Köln Central Archive Building.

This is a truly special hotel, the architecture and the art and furniture are very impressive! The rooms are very spacious and we thoroughly enjoyed the stay. It’s a short walk to the station and very good value. Would definitely stay again!

Very nice hotel, wonderful rooms with a comfy bed. Love the overall atmosphere of this place. Quiet but very central, public transport just around the corner. Be advised that reception desk is not available between 11:30pm and 6:30am, in case you check in late or check out early

Qvest represents a welcome addition to the landscape of Hotels in Cologne. The converted monastery is a truly exceptional architectural space that is located very centrally while still having a very quiet corner of the city in the form of a small square it shares with a church. The owners fully renovated the space and filled it to the brim with designer furniture, many of which are recognisable classics. I genuinely enjoy staying here and can definitely see myself returning in the future - but there are some practical areas that need work. The rooms did not offer enough storage for clothing - there was one rail with 5 hangers, no drawers or cupboards to put any shirts or underwear. The TV in our room was so low that you couldn't see it from the vantage point of the bed. It would have been nice to have a complimentary bottle of water as is customary in most hotels of this caliber. Finally we were visiting during a rather hot week and found that there was no air conditioning and only a fairly weak fan. All in all I really enjoy this hotel but do hope that the owners will make some effort on the aforementioned points over the coming year.

Lovely hotel! No AC and windows only cracked open a bit so rooms got a bit stuff when it was 28c. Inconsistent tech in the rooms - my room tv had streaming services but the 2nd room I got did now. Wifi was not good, unable to do work zoom calls and the kids were unable to launch roblox. Oh well, more time to spend drinking kolsch at one of the kolsch houses nearby! A really cool church across the plaza. The hotel's public spaces were magnificently curated with mid-century modern furniture and art (eames chair!). The room itself didn't have a closet and only 1 chair but comfy beds and prompt housekeeping. Located very near all the fun things!

Qvest: We booked the qvest for only one night, thinking that the affiliation with Marriott would meet the standards we're used from Marriott. First of all: the room was clean, the hotel is situated in a building that appears to be an old monastery and overall it makes a great first impression. Sadly the contact with the employees became a bit complicated, as somehow things were explained complicated and partly wrong and requests were misunderstood. For example the parking garage. You're best advised to just follow the signs to the number they tell you, as what was explained to us led us nowhere except for the exit. This was only one of a few problems we had with the service that was generally just not trying to make us welcome or accommodating us much. At the room we quickly got disappointed. As said, it was clean, but that's it. It's a bit funny, that the critique points can as well just be explained with "but it's a design hotel", which became our running gag. So where do I start? The wall above the bed had a meters long crack. The TV, maybe cool design, but it stood on the floor. Literally, you couldn't watch from the bed. The chair was either a really old school chair from old wood with metal legs, heavy and loud when attempting to move - either from "Sperrmüll" or try-hard Bauhaus adaption. The theme seems to be black and white, while everything is in uncomfortable white, some black "contrasts" with an elaborate bulky clothing hook on the wall, a black bathroom and next to the bed a massive picture of a constructionsite with a brand logo on it - maybe the attempt to make you feel like this is high quality. And this is where the attempt ends. "High quality "design" hotel", that didn't even have a hairdryer. Water only available for 4 € 0,33 l in the minibar - funny, that there's a minibar (in a tiny closet) but not even a hairdryer. 2 of our lights in the room did not work - staff wanted to tell us we were not using it correctly, which, nope, was not the case. The bulbs were just done. And that's another point. Trying so hard to make it nice design but nothing was self-explanatory. We may of course not forget about the shower, with such a greatly designed glass-wall (maybe half the width it would need to make it a shower), that literally the half bathroom got wet, not matter how hard we tried not to - and you could see water damage from previous guests on the bathroom wall. By the way, breakfast is 24 € pp, we happily declined. Overall: we won't come back and advise whoever wants a relaxing and comfortable night at a comfortING hotel, to go somewhere else. We can now also say: It is a qvest to 1st use the room and 2nd get in and out the parking garage!

This hotel offers a modern yet boutique atmosphere that we thoroughly enjoyed. Our room on the 6th floor had a unique studio-like layout, with the shower and sink integrated into the bedroom, while the toilet was in a separate enclosed space. Although managing the room temperature was a bit challenging, both the air conditioning and heater were functional. The location is fantastic, especially for visiting the Christmas markets, which are all within a 15-minute walk. Highly recommended—we’ll definitely be returning!

Yelp
This hotel is an absolute DREAM. The entire place is gorgeous, down to the very last detail. Such care and attentiveness was put into this spot and it shows. Not only was the atmosphere perfect, the staff were very great and willing to go above and beyond!!! The breakfast that was included in our booking was delicious and fresh, it felt like we were eating local ingredients prepared with care. It IS a bit warm in the summer in the rooms though, with no A/C it gets a little toasty on the 4th floor. Thankfully the staff happily brought us a very nice Dyson fan that worked great and did the trick. The beds are on the firmer side which isn't my usual preference but we slept extremely well both nights we stayed. I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel, especially if you're into feeling part of the city and staying somewhere totally Instagram worthy!

Yelp
My boyfriend kidnapped me to Cologne last weekend and booked us a room at The Qvest. Great choice! The new design hotel in an old monastery is a pleasure to stay at. It is amazing to see that Qvest Magazine found a way to turn their lifestyle into a place where you can enjoy your holiday. The architecture and interior perfectly combine the old with the new and thanks to the arched windows there is plenty of light. Our room was completely modern in wood and white with a beautiful bathroom in black tiles. One of the best showers I've ever had. We had cocktails and appetizers at the bar, where we also had breakfast the next morning. Unfortunately the cocktails were underwhelming and expensive (about €15), but the selection of bread is really good. I am a bread-o-holic after all. The cheeses and toppings are okay, but nothing extraordinary. The entire hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. They really make you feel welcome. We were there during a quiet weekend, which worked very relaxing. The square where The Qvest is located is very calm although it's close to everything.

Yelp
My room was beautiful and large and a super comfortable bed. The art work on the walls is connected to the Chapel/ Photography gallery next door. All the furniture and decor was original Eames. Everyone working at the Qvest was kind, helpful and always had a smile. Great breakfast! If you're looking for something original, this is the place! MA
