"The 19th-century, neo-Gothic building that houses The Qvest hotel used to store Cologne’s city archives—and makes for a striking first impression. Inside, surprisingly modern spaces, designed by owner Michael Kaune (famed for his Qvest magazine and passion for art, design, and culture), feature items from his own collection of furniture and photography. While sometimes on the small side, the 34 rooms showcase vintage and original mid-century modern design pieces; for more space, book one of the suites, with historic details like cross vaults, hand-painted wooden ceilings, and Gothic windows, as well as photographs by Roxanne Lowit, Marina Gadonneix, and George Holz, and the occasional grand piano. Guests can also look forward to a slick bar with Eames armchairs that doubles as a breakfast room, and hip, personable staff who can help with exploring the city."

The Qvest (Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia) 19 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels
"As an entrepreneurial venture, the Qvest certainly brings a new and welcome take on contemporary design to Cologne’s relatively straightforward hospitality scene. But it’s the preserved history — in this city, no less — that makes it unique. One of the only extant pre-WWII buildings spared by RAF bombers, Qvest is something of a design museum, intricately interweaving a variety of periods and practitioners. Michael Kaune, a local art collector, teamed up with Rolf Kursawe’s architects to pull off this singular feat in just two years of renovation; together, they’ve achieved what can only be called a Gereonsviertel landmark. (Don’t worry, we’ll wait here while you look it up.)" - Tablet Hotels
I am a Bonvoy Titanium member and booked 2 rooms a stay at The Qvest Cologne hotel. I assumed that rooms in a hotel of this caliber and price would have air conditioning. The nights were quite miserable as the outside temperature was around +30°C. Nothing worked at this hotel: rude service, no benefits for status members, breakfast wasn't included in the price (if you can even call it breakfast – more like overpriced coffee). The room's decor was minimalistic, if you can even call it decor. The nightstand was a ridiculous "table" that was only 10-15 cm off the floor. The room and corridor were dark. This is all supposedly called a design hotel. Check-in was only allowed a minute early at 14:59, and check-out was at 11 AM. Fortunately, I managed to get a late check-out until 12 PM – wow. Three nights at this hotel, and thankfully they were the last ones. Never again. I don’t understand why Marriott has chosen this overpriced hotel as a partner. Over 300 euros for a basic room per night.

How would I describe this hotel?
Lifeless and boring!
The staff does not seem to have any spark either. The best thing about this hotel is the location! And the building itself looks interesting but that’s all.
Our room was quite big but sadly decorated, all items were placed against the wall leaving a huge empty space in the middle.

Some rooms are quite small. My biggest issue: they can‘t be locked manually!! I am pretty sure someone tried coming into my room at night. Wanted to lock but no way. The reception is without staff starting a certain time, so in terms of feeling of safety/ security- theres room for improvement…
Great breakfast though!

We know the hotel from previous stays and liked it. This time we asked if we can bring our dog and they confirmed. After arrival we learned they have dedicated rooms for dogs and we were given a room on the sixth floor. Elevator stoops at 5th and you have to walk stairs for one floor. So we asked for help with our luggage, but reception told us she is alone and we have to do it ourselves. We went to the room and there was no comparison with the other rooms we have seen before. Very minimalistic and more a hostel design. We requested another room but there was no other available ( suits sold out and because of carpet in other rooms, not for dogs). If they would have told us all that at the phone call before we made the reservation, would have been ok and we would have gone to another hotel. Now we told reception if no other room we would cancel our stay and eventually we canceled and left the hotel. Next day I received a cancellation fee. Reservation was made in the morning same day by phone. After complaining I received offer for next stay but no refund of cancellation fee.

Nice little hotel with awsome public spaces. The room I got for the first night wasn't exciting at all and didn't even have a chair or a closet or a desk, so there was ample space for it.
I asked for another room the next morning and got a really unusual one (with a desk and a nice reading chair), which I appreciated.
The breakfast was okay, the lady that run the the breakfast was nice and cheerful and the cappucino was very good.
The hotel is good 5 minute walk from the nearest subway station and located at a little park across a monastery. Very peaceful.

What a find! Loved this gem of a hotel. Beautiful conversion from an historic building. Excellent service from a team that really cares about the guest experience. Great location to walk almost anywhere within 30 minutes. You need to embrace the quirkiness of a hotel “fitting into” the former Köln Central Archive Building.

No ac. You will have to carry bags up at least one flight of stairs to check in. No coffee. No iron. You can barely wash your face in the bathroom the water will not run continuously. Thin pillows. Miserable in every regard.

Qvest represents a welcome addition to the landscape of Hotels in Cologne. The converted monastery is a truly exceptional architectural space that is located very centrally while still having a very quiet corner of the city in the form of a small square it shares with a church. The owners fully renovated the space and filled it to the brim with designer furniture, many of which are recognisable classics. I genuinely enjoy staying here and can definitely see myself returning in the future - but there are some practical areas that need work. The rooms did not offer enough storage for clothing - there was one rail with 5 hangers, no drawers or cupboards to put any shirts or underwear. The TV in our room was so low that you couldn't see it from the vantage point of the bed. It would have been nice to have a complimentary bottle of water as is customary in most hotels of this caliber. Finally we were visiting during a rather hot week and found that there was no air conditioning and only a fairly weak fan. All in all I really enjoy this hotel but do hope that the owners will make some effort on the aforementioned points over the coming year.

Yelp
This hotel is an absolute DREAM. The entire place is gorgeous, down to the very last detail. Such care and attentiveness was put into this spot and it shows. Not only was the atmosphere perfect, the staff were very great and willing to go above and beyond!!! The breakfast that was included in our booking was delicious and fresh, it felt like we were eating local ingredients prepared with care. It IS a bit warm in the summer in the rooms though, with no A/C it gets a little toasty on the 4th floor. Thankfully the staff happily brought us a very nice Dyson fan that worked great and did the trick. The beds are on the firmer side which isn't my usual preference but we slept extremely well both nights we stayed. I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel, especially if you're into feeling part of the city and staying somewhere totally Instagram worthy!

Yelp
My boyfriend kidnapped me to Cologne last weekend and booked us a room at The Qvest. Great choice!
The new design hotel in an old monastery is a pleasure to stay at. It is amazing to see that Qvest Magazine found a way to turn their lifestyle into a place where you can enjoy your holiday.
The architecture and interior perfectly combine the old with the new and thanks to the arched windows there is plenty of light. Our room was completely modern in wood and white with a beautiful bathroom in black tiles. One of the best showers I've ever had.
We had cocktails and appetizers at the bar, where we also had breakfast the next morning. Unfortunately the cocktails were underwhelming and expensive (about €15), but the selection of bread is really good. I am a bread-o-holic after all.
The cheeses and toppings are okay, but nothing extraordinary.
The entire hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. They really make you feel welcome. We were there during a quiet weekend, which worked very relaxing. The square where The Qvest is located is very calm although it's close to everything.

Yelp
My room was beautiful and large and a super comfortable bed. The art work on the walls is connected to the Chapel/ Photography gallery next door. All the furniture and decor was original Eames. Everyone working at the Qvest was kind, helpful and always had a smile. Great breakfast! If you're looking for something original, this is the place! MA
