For years, Nam Kee has been my go-to eatery, with outlets at West Mall and Railmall. However, my experience at the Railmall outlet this afternoon greatly disappointed me. My wife and I went there for lunch, and I was served by a plus sized lady staff member who seemed impatient from the start. I ordered a dry Ban Mian for my wife and a dry Mi Hun Guai for myself. The staff, asked if I meant "鸡粒" Mi Hun Guai, sounding rather short-tempered. I was taken aback and asked her to clarify, to which she repeated the phrase, even more impatiently. I politely told her that I simply wanted a dry Mi Hun Guai and asked her not to use jargon, as I wasn't familiar with it. Her response was to become even more hostile, snapping that it was written on the signboard and I should read it myself.
At one point, I asked if she was having a bad day and suggested she shouldn't be working if her mood was that poor. The encounter left a sour taste, but thankfully, I was later served by an older staff member who was pleasant, professional, and a breath of fresh air.
