14 Best Bars in Vancouver | Condé Nast Traveler

"Climb ancient, creaking stairs to a second-floor space and there, before you, is a Vancouver legend. Once a members-only club for railway workers, the Railway Stage & Beer Cafe—or just the "Railway Club," as it's known by locals—has been part of the city's bar scene since 1931. But the place really came of age in the 1980s, when the incredibly small stage hosted everyone from Sarah McLachlan and KD Lang, to Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, who allegedly walked off the stage when hecklers decided, you know, he wasn’t all that." - Guy Saddy

1 star is the lowest I could give, if 0 was an option I would. Worst bartenders I've ever seen. 2 of them were high as a kite and the third was the slowest man on earth. I've been going to this place for 9 years and have experienced several owners from the original to the donally group but it has hit a new low. When the people running the place are wearing sun glasses for the night shift jesus christ. Horrible service, crazy long waits for drinks, running out of drinks and visibly high bartenders, this place is doomed. Such a shame because it was so good for decades. Please, someone else buy this and remove the scum from this gem. Make vancouver music scene great again

The old Railway Club was the best bar in town by a mile. The new owners have ruined it. Nothing recognizable about it. Awful shame.

My friends and I worked here a few years ago and loved it, and we haven't been in for a few years and decided to come back to watch my boyfriends friends band, and the service was terrible. I ordered a tequila pineapple and they only filled my glass half way up with pineapple juice and it was impossible getting someone's attention so I had to drink straight up tequila and that was the only drink I was able to get despite being there for almost 3 hours. My other friends showed up at 8 and nobody came up to us at the bar until after 9 ( after we had to repeatedly try to ask multiple bartenders for drinks to which they would respond sure and just walk away and not come back) despite the fact that it was completely empty right in front of them and they obviously were waiting for drinks. Nobody would even make eye contact with us so we could ask for more drinks and it wasn't even that busy at this point. Two bartenders kept yelling at one bartender and being super rude and aggressive to him and it was so awkward. As someone who has worked in the industry for 10+ years it's super inappropriate to talk to co workers like that no matter what especially in front of guests, and I'm surprised that bartender didn't walk out. It ruined the whole vibe tbh which was already weird to begin with. I know it wasn't just us who received bad service because everyone seemed annoyed, and people in the bathroom were talking about how bad the service was and how these people even make money. But yeah I was really looking forward to drinking here and it was really bad. Also some random person was bleeding everywhere and bled all over my arm and my boyfriends jacket and the people working the door didn't care at that there was a random person bleeding heavily everywhere.

Place has fallen far from what it was. Used to be a great venue for live music, now it cancels on its shows last minute and is reputed to not even pay the bands. Filthy as well. Seems a shame but better to let it die out than support these practices.

Doesn’t even deserve 1 star. This place was known and used to be a great bar. New owners destroyed it, the most disrespectful, unprofessional people I have ever dealt with. No proper service, no proper food, the list goes on.
