Passed two Starbucks to get to this independently owned small business. But that was not the best part. The service was friendly and accurate and the taste of the coffee was excellent. They know how to use that big beautiful LaMarzocco for sure. Add to that the ambiance of the sitting area was welcoming and warm with decor that gave a nod to the history of the most important beverage goat ever helped many to uncover. Well done on every level.

We were staying in a hotel nearby with rather limited and I ricy breakfast options. What a treat it was to find the Red Cat. Delicious food and coffee for every taste. Unfortunately, they were out of grits the day we visited, so we didn't get to try their breakfast bowls, but the pastries were amazing. The croissant for the sandwich was one of the best I had ever had. Cold brew and lates, perfect.

Red Cat Cafe is a cozy gem with delicious food and a warm, inviting atmosphere. The coffee was especially yummy—smooth, rich, and just what I needed. The cafe’s location near Railroad Park offers amazing views that make the experience even better. I loved the industrial decor—it added a unique and interesting vibe to the space. I would absolutely come back again for the coffee, the cozy ambiance, and the perfect park-side setting.

This has been one of my favorite places since moving to Birmingham. The staff has always been sociable and kind, and I love the chalkboard of them drawn as cats. The coffee is always perfect, and the food never disappoints. My favorite is the Bengal and any of the monthly specials!

Google
Great location across the street from Railroad Park. Veggie Wraps, Frappes and Spanakopita is good for takeout. Had them several times. In the mornings on Sunday they have sweet and savory crepes. I like the Pepper Place building better. A very clean facility. Home made pop tarts are so good. Today I had the salted caramel latte, smoked Gouda grits and chocolate chip cookies. Coffee quality is always top. Peach muffins and Peanut Butter Banana Oat Bars are delicious and are baked from scratch.

Google
This place is adorable and we enjoyed our visit. The pop tarts are pretty good, and my avocado toast was pretty good too. The staff was friendly and overall, we enjoyed our visit.

Google
Top-notch breakfast sandwiches with perfectly balanced flavors! Their coffee bean selection is impressively diverse and the lattes are consistently superb. Highly recommended for all coffee and breakfast lovers!

Google
A great little place downtown for breakfast and a coffee. The staff was friendly. The vibe was right. It was very clean. The food was good and came out quickly. Great stop for breakfast.

Yelp
I've been here a few times now and have always had a great experience. I loved the Autumn latte specials they had and have enjoyed sitting outside in the cool autumn weather. Service is good!
google avatar

Yelp
Red Cat is one of my favorite coffee shops in Birmingham! I love all their different lattes but the Persian is my favorite. They have a cat of the month with a different combo which is so fun! This one is usually busy but there is plenty of seating inside and outside. It's a cozy spot that's the perfect place to catchup with a friend or get some work done.
google avatar

Yelp
This was my first time at this shop. I was helping a friend out with an assignment Saturday so I was using the pavilion next to this shop. Walked up and saw some patrons drinking liquids of their early morning choice. I entered and inside was nice . Nearly all seatings were taken but, after i placed an order, a table became available so I sat down and waited on my cappuccino with caramel. I did add a packet of trivia to sweeten it. All in all the morning treat was tasty and my visit was pleasing.

Yelp
I only stopped by to do work on my laptop so I only grabbed a simple plain black coffee. The food options and multiple drink options look great though. My favorite is always the vibe and the server I had was very nice and welcoming. This was a great place to sit and work and multiple people had been in there meeting with others so it is great for that too obviously. This is a great place.

Yelp
I prefer the pepper place location but since we were at RR park , we came here to grab coffee. I ordered a Cortado and my mom had one of their winter festive drinks, biscoff latte. We both enjoyed our hot drinks. The service was blah. This location is small inside, so we enjoyed our drinks to go. There is a patio. No private parking lot. Street parking only.
google avatar

Jeremy E.

Yelp
The space is nice, and there is a decent amount of outdoor seating as well. The Nutella pop tart from Birmingham Breadworks was delicious. Having Railroad Park across the street to walk around while enjoying the delicious coffee is a huge plus!
google avatar

Ashley M.

Yelp
Red cat a cute, cozy cafe right across the street from Railroad park. Indoor seating filled up quick, so we sat outside. Fortunately the weather pleasant. There was not much of a line inside and the baristas quickly prepped my coffee. I ordered a cappuccino with lavender syrup and was not the biggest fan. It wasn't terrible, but I'd order something else next time. Overall I'd visit again! Very convenient to grab a coffee and walk around the park.

Yelp
Bischoff latte is incredible and a must-try if you come here. Kind staff with a nice atmosphere to study or get some work done. The spinach and feta hand pie had a generous amount of filling and great flavor. The breakfast bowl and breakfast sandwich are both pretty average, as would be expecting ordering food from a coffee shop. The coffee is amazing though.
google avatar

Alice K.

Yelp
The last few times I have been here have really deterred me from returning anytime soon. This place is very convenient for long study sessions. However, they seem to be having issues training their staff as I have encountered issues with inconsistent prices and long waits for a drink. They also changed their wifi password (why?) and the Internet is spotty. The tables are wobbly as well. I will probably be going to other coffee shops before thinking about stepping into red cat again as the drink quality and service has diminished.
google avatar

Yelp
I am a big fan of Red Cat. However, the last few times I've been, I have been very disappointed. Most recently I got a cappuccino and it was undrinkable. I took one sip and was utterly disgusted. I love coming to here to read and just hang out with friends. But I don't think I will be getting coffee from here again. Something they do very well is their lemonades. So even though their coffee is going straight down hill, the lemonades and non coffee items are so much better.
google avatar

Demetria R.

Yelp
I was attending the @WaterLanternFestival, at railroad park and wanted a cool drink. I didn't want the typical food truck drink and decided to see what the Red Cat had to offer. Such a great spot to sit outside and have a pastry, coffee and/or a cold drink after a day of activities at the park. The service was nice and pleasant. I ordered a smoothie. Great options for a fruit smoothie. My mango and pineapple smoothie was delicious. I'll put this place on repeat. The $6 price was worth the taste for the 16 oz drink. Perfect for a fun event,

Yelp
Chai latte tasted like milk with cinnamon. Did not care for it. Service was ok. It was very crowded on a Sunday afternoon.
google avatar

Joanne J.

Yelp
If you find yourself with a caffeine craving at Railroad park, check out Red Cat! They have a fun cat themed speciality coffee menu and lots of fun season drinks. My favorite is their Abyssinian - a delicious vanilla and cinnamon combo. Ask the baristas for their recs, they're so friendly! They have a menu of breakfast burritos and bowls that always hit the spot, and a pastry case with fresh selections. This also a great study spot, with great lighting and lots of tables near outlets.
google avatar

Toni Rose D.

Yelp
I went to the location at Pepper Place but there isn't a Yelp location for that one. I needed a workspace before I could check in to my hotel room so I found this spot. I got a chai latte and a pumpkin something muffin. (It was gluten-free, I believe.) The ambiance was super cozy and the natural lighting was beautiful. There's plenty of space for folks to work, meet with other folks, etc. The only thing I didn't like was the WiFi was inconsistent. I had to use my hotspot while I was here to get some work done.
google avatar

Val W.

Yelp
My husband and I got our romcom on and had a date here yesterday. This was my first time coming to this location. We were greeted upon entering and ordering was easy. I got a breakfast sandwich and a superfood smoothie. The star of the show was the smoothie! It was perfectly blended and it was so good, while being packed full of great ingredients. The service was good and the employees were friendly. I'd go back!

Yelp
This small corner shop is in a fabulous location, it's within walking distance of children's Hospital, Red Mountain Theater, Railroad Park, UAB and the surrounding vicinity. You can smell coffee fragrance as soon as you begin opening the door the baristas are happy with quick service. Any coffee drink you can imagine, pastries and a few other snack or breakfast necessities are always available.

Anna S.

Yelp
This coffee shop is a good stop before walking railroad park or going to the farmers market on Saturday (they have another location at pepper place with a larger inside + more seating). Their coffee is overly sweet to me but they have a lot of flavors to try, plus smoothies and sandwiches. The inside seating is a bit cramped but if you're lucky enough to get a spot, it makes for a half decent study location.
google avatar

April B.

Yelp
I love this avocado toast and it alone is reason enough to visit. This is a busy coffee shop with indoor and outdoor seating. Service and patrons are steady.
google avatar

Lynn B.

Yelp
Great morning stop for a cup of Java! Convenient for the medical district with friendly staff and good service.
google avatar

Yelp
Sunday morning allowed for quick parking and easy to grab a latte to-go. Friendly staff. Cool cat ambiance.

Yelp
I've been traveling for the last 1.5 years & haven't had access to grits, so I knew just the spot when I was back in Birmingham. Red Cat's Turkey Sausage Breakfast Bowl did not disappoint- It's what I call "fancy grits!" The eggs were fluffy, & the grits were warm to the perfect temperature. My coconut milk cappuccino with cinnamon was delicious, & my partner enjoyed his iced hazelnut almond milk latte. We did wish our drinks were served in mugs since we were dining in, but the friendly baristas & cozy environment made up for that small expectation. Suggestion: label the food menu gluten & dairy free :)

Kevin B.

Yelp
Loved the coffee! Loved the muffins! Don't recommend the pop tarts, thought they would be great but was disappointed.
google avatar

Yelp
Wonderful atmosphere and solid coffee! Line was out the door. Would love to come back and try some other items on the menu. They were extremely busy and the wait was long. Staff was friendly. Beautiful area of town, too.

Yelp
Whenever I visit Railroad Park, I try to stop by Red Cat. If you have never been, Red Cat has more than just coffee. I, myself, am personally not a coffee drinker, but I do enjoy their other drinks and food. They have sandwiches, wraps, salads and paninis as well as baked goods. They also serve a hot breakfast. One day I tried their winter salad, and it was delicious. Recently I had a white hot chocolate with gingerbread syrup. Street parking is available, and the shop is directly located across from the park. There are some tables in the the shop as well as covered tables at Railroad Park.

Yelp
Atmosphere: Red Cat is a cute, local coffee shop on the corner of the street by Railroad Park. The interior is very cozy and lets in a lot of natural light. Service: Our barista was very friendly, and our order came out pretty quickly! Food: We ordered a Blackberry Cold Brew and White Chocolate Raspberry Mocha. We had a hard time deciding what drink to order because their various flavor combinations seemed so interesting! The Blackberry Cold Brew was some of the best cold brew we've tried. The fruity blackberry taste was subtle and elevated the coffee taste of the cold brew as a whole. The White Chocolate Raspberry Mocha had the perfect balance of flavors. This was our first time trying a mocha with a fruity flavor, and Red Cat made it work! Each sip had both sweetness from the chocolate and tartness from the raspberry. Overall: Red Cat's unique drink options and friendly atmosphere make it a great place to spend a morning or afternoon. The drinks that we had were original and memorable! We would happily come back to try their other drinks and would recommend anyone to explore their menu.

Yelp
I love red cat -- I love the baristas and the service, I love the location and atmosphere, I LOVE the mochas and the sandwiches. I have no complaints. Come here if you want a solid coffee and cute cafe

Yelp
Perfect. Great location across from Railroad Park which has beautiful walking trails. Quick pleasant and attractive staff. Had a real smoothie; no powders or sweeteners or dairy. Just like home thanks!

Yelp
Great food, excellent service and reasonable prices. Really well decorated too. Would recommend!

Yelp
Employee said nothing the entire interaction. They gave me my coffee in a mug when I asked for it togo. When I let another employee know it was supposed to be togo, again, the employee said nothing and just poured my latte (that had whipped cream) into a togo cup and handed it back to me. I'm pretty tired of coffee shop employees acting too cool to be kind when I had done nothing to them. As a Gen Z, I think this is an ongoing issue with my generation. They quite quit their job even when the job isn't that difficult, and they take out their bad attitude on the customers. They assume the worst of every customer and expect them to be rude. When will my generation learn that the work place is what you make it? If you keep a good attitude and do your job, you're unstoppable! Management and customers really appreciate that. Sure, you'll get a Karen every now and then, but don't absorb their negative energy and spread it to someone else who didn't do nothing. I'm just tired of people not being friendly and still expect a tip. They're not treating other humans with respect. You never know what someone else is going through. You can really make a difference in someone's day just by being friendly. Overpriced coffee and food. I don't wanna come back to a place that drains my energy and wallet. My latte was as bitter as the employees. Hope they lighten up

Yelp
It is a nice small coffee shop right across from railroad park. There is both indoor and outdoor seating but it is limited. I absolutely love the iced Bengal lattes with oatmilk! It is creamy, not too sweet and really smooth. It is my go to there. I do love the turkey sausage breakfast sandwich. It does very a lot more in taste from day to day compared to the coffee which is much more consistent, but overall the breakfast sandwich is really good! The servers are always so sweet and helpful if you are trying to find something you would like. Sometimes it's hard to hear your name called if you are not near the pick up station, but even the customers are sweet and will let you know. Overall it is a really nice cafe to go to when you are near Railroad Park.

Yelp
This place has a cool vibe. The service was friendly and fast. The coffee was great.

Jo Ann E.

Yelp
Update May 2024. Red Cat is under new ownership, and the last time I stopped by both the spanakopita and grits are gone from the menu. Tasty Town opened on the ball park end of the park, and they have spanakopita, but I still miss Red Cat's old version.
google avatar

Yelp
I always stop here when I'm coming through Birmingham. I love the atmosphere for studying and reading. The service is always great and the coffee here is some of the best in the city.

Zac B.

Yelp
Great place, good prices. Felt really small town even though it was in a big city. Was in walking distance to many cool places.

Yelp
Alright guys, buckle in. At 3:50, I went and got a Havana Brown, thoughts? I LOVED IT SO MUCH I WENT BACK AT 5:00. This time I got a Persian and man, I don't know what it is but I loved them both. Normally, I'm a black coffee kind of guy, but really enjoyed that neither of these drinks were too sweet. The workers were friendly and informative and the coffee beans are toasted in house. There's so much to love about this shop including the lovely park right outside. I'm not from the area so I appreciate how it feels to go somewhere and feel welcomed. Do yourself a favor and try one of their drinks. I have no doubt that it will be amazing!

Debbie D.

Yelp
Love the selection and the attention to detail. Excellent service while being low key and welcoming. Highly recommend Red Cat - Hands down it beats the large box coffee shops!
google avatar

Scott M.

Yelp
I can't express how happy it makes me that Birmingham is coming around to the idea of having tons of places that make real coffee. This place is a good example of the kind of spot that in a perfect world would be on every corner. It's quick, quaint, and efficient. The baristas know exactly what to do to make sure you get enough caffeine to ensure you don't fall asleep anytime soon. The selection of pastries should suffice for just about whatever you're looking for, and the place is super clean and has good prices. Don't think twice if you're looking for coffee. Just walk right in and order.
google avatar

Lexi Z.

Yelp
If you are PICKY about chai latte, espresso, the right ratio of milk to coffee, and just overall flavors in your coffee or latte, come here. We're from Florida and came to visit from out of town and I hardly ever find a place that satisfies my coffee needs. The red cat did :)
google avatar

Ariel K.

Yelp
I typically go to the location in Pepper Place, but I decided to go to this location the other day while walking in Railroad Park. This location is a lot smaller than the one in Pepper Place, but it still has the same charm and ambiance. I always get the Abyssinian (vanilla & cinnamon) and do a mix & match smoothie with coconut cream, pineapple, and almond milk. The baristas are sweet and most definitely seem to care about their customers' experience. The areas are clean and well kempt; tables inside are sanitized in between customers. I love how sustainable they're attempting to be with their straws. On their straw dispenser reads a message stating they care about sustainability and would like to keep the usage of straws to a minimum.
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
Great spot for a quality coffee. My go to has been the iced lattes recently n particular the season white chocolate pumpkin spiced latte. They offer breakfast items as well if you need a small bite
google avatar

Eric F.

Yelp
Any place where I went on my first date with Stephanie has to get five stars. I'll tell that story in another post. As to today, on the last Sunday of the month the Saints and Sinners meet here to start at 6:00am. The other Sundays we meet at the O'Henry's Highland. If your interested in learning about Birmingham's industrial past, how to fix cars, or how to stove-up, this is the group for you. COVID - as good as they can. Sustainability - they've always tried hard, but Covid makes it hard.

Patricia B.

Yelp
My husband and I are looking for a good go-to Sunday morning coffee shop. Recently we tried Red Cat. The Railroad Park location is open on Sunday, but the one closest to us is not. It wasn't too hard to park but it was early yet. There were a few customers in and out and a few who seemed to be settled in with laptops. I had a latte which was very good and he had the dark roast, which was fine but he really likes dark roast. It was a bit noisy inside and someone did come up and ask us for money, which I didn't enjoy. I don't think this will be the place for us.
google avatar

Alexis B.

Yelp
We stopped in at the Red Cat for coffees before exploring Railroad Park across the street from the coffee shop. The coffees we got were fine. The location is quite small, but it didn't feel crowded. The service was a bit awkward, but our experience at the Red Cat was fine overall.
google avatar

Adrian C.

Yelp
This is a great coffee shop we stop by during a road trip. Their coffee are awesome. They are very friendly. The most amazing is the Pumpkin chocolate chips muffin. Have you hear a Chocolate Monster said " too much chocolate"? They put more chocolate than homemade one. Love love love it. Definitely come back, when we pass Birmingham, AL.
google avatar

Brianna B.

Yelp
quaint coffee shop next to railroad park. great for studying. I enjoy studying in a with a little background noise and this place is great for that. Also, coffee is really good. I ordered the hot spiced maple and brown sugar latte and it was pretty tasty. Will definitely come back for another study session.
google avatar

Laura D.

Yelp
I'll be honest, I've always been a fan of red cats coffee, that's why this review has 2 stars instead of 1. I stopped by this morning to try out their breakfast. I placed an order for a bacon egg and cheese croissant TO GO, and sat down. The girl behind the counter mentioned to me AFTER I paid that it would be a "little while" before my food came out. One FULL hour later, they brought me this smooshed bacon egg and no cheese croissant. I'll continue to order their coffee but I won't get stuck waiting on their food ever again. Please warn your customers BEFORE they order in the future.
google avatar

Sara M.

Yelp
The barista that served me both days I went was so kind! She did a fantastic job on my drink each time. The prices are also very reasonable compared to many other coffee shops. The interior is really cool, and there are plenty of seating options both inside and out.
google avatar

Michelle N.

Yelp
Came here to study again on a Saturday afternoon. It was very busy, but I'm back to update my review because I am very pleased with their iced lattes and their sandwiches. I got the classic pastrami & the bengal iced latte (50% sugar). It was a tad sweeter than I would've liked but still delicious. Definitely recommend. And the sandwich was huge and not that expensive! (~$7) My friend got the strawberry mango smoothie and wow; that was also a treat. So tasty and fresh. Wifi here is pretty decent too, so I just wish there was more seating!
google avatar

KeeWee W.

Yelp
Not too crowded on a Friday morning. I got the breakfast bowl with turkey sausage. It was good. The grits were great! My boyfriend had the breakfast sandwich with turkey bacon. He liked it l. I also had a peanut butter banana oat bar. It was ok. Will return.
