I am extremely happy with my appointment with Paige! I booked to get a fashion color on my virgin hair. She listened to my wants during consultation and talked through the process and maintenance of what I wanted. She was very attentive, making sure my hair wasn't processing in bleach too long as to not damage it. She was very transparent about pricing as well. She was also very enjoyable to talk to! The end result was stunning!

I had such a wonderful experience visiting Red Chair Salon for the first time, especially with Paige, my new stylist. I came in because I needed my hair to look perfect for a big event where I’d be walking a red carpet, and Paige absolutely delivered. From the moment I sat down for the consultation, she was attentive, warm, and incredibly professional. She listened to all my concerns, helped me figure out the perfect style on a tight schedule, and still managed to get me in and out efficiently without sacrificing quality. The salon itself had a fantastic vibe and a welcoming atmosphere, and everyone there was just lovely. I left feeling like a million bucks and ready for my event. If you’re looking for a new stylist, I can’t recommend Paige and Red Chair Salon highly enough. You won’t be disappointed!

Amy has been cutting my hair for years and I feel like family every time I walk in. Last time, Amy was busy, but since she knew me so well- and her crew- she had Kendall give me a cut. Amazing talent and true kindness. Best cut yet- I felt like a rockstar. I can’t say enough, other than it is true- Red Chair Rocks!

Hi Howie, Thank you for responding yesterday and conducting a review today. I wanted to clarify a few points: I did not hear anything about a shampoo or scalp massage during my visit. If I had, I would not have declined it, because it's one of the reasons I specifically booked the "Short Cut"($65). On Vagaro.com, where I booked it, it explicitly states that all Cut & Style appointments include a relaxing shampoo and scalp massage. While I did give specific instructions (including "please add a lot of texture on top"), the haircut took only about 15 minutes. On past visits to Red Chair Salon and other salons/barbers, a textured, messy short cut with that level of detail takes longer than 15 minutes. Fifteen minutes felt rushed and did not reflect the level of service I've received from your salon in the past. At checkout, I tipped in cash and didn't voice dissatisfaction on the spot because I assumed I might have accidentally booked the wrong service. I chose to give the staff the benefit of the doubt because of my positive experiences in the past. However, when I left and checked my confirmation email, it clearly showed I had booked (and paid for) a Short Cut with shampoo/scalp massage. I called the salon at 6:36 PM (11/21) that same day to clarify what had happened. The staff member who answered told me that I did not receive the shampoo or scalp massage because I had been charged for a clipper cut ($55 and $10 less expensive then a short cut), and that this lower tier service was the reason for not receiving the /shampoo/scalp massage. This contradicts both the receipt and the holiday promotion email. Also, I had Vagaro.com pulled up on my computer while calling, and I read during the call that the cheaper clipper cut included the shampoo and scalp massage. I pointed out this discrepancy to the person who picked up the phone. After that, I asked for Amy's email, to which I was redirected toward a refund/complimentary redo. I decided to end the call shortly after. Regarding expressing my concerns publicly on multiple platforms: I tried to contact Amy via email and I could not find her email online. So I searched LinkedIn and wanted to contact her there, but I didn't find her. I instead found Howie. So I messaged you first on LinkedIn at 7:37 PM (11/21). I saw you had only 3 connections and assumed the account was inactive, so I posted publicly on other platforms to let management know what happened. I've have had great experiences in the past, which is why I initially gave the benefit of the doubt(and left a tip!). Unfortunately, this visit fell far short of the standard I've come to expect from Red Chair, especially because I have a family wedding to attend next week. I appreciate your ownership and conducting a thorough review, so I will change my rating from 1 star to 3 stars. As for the refund, I'll respectfully decline it and won't be returning in the future. I've been getting a double process for over years and this was by far the worst service I've experienced. My hair lifts easily, the stylist (Haley) knew this, and she still fried it beyond belief. She also missed half of my head with the toner. And she didn't rinse my hair or blow dry properly so my hair was crusty and frizzy beyond belief. I'm really disappointed. I used to do this process myself during COVID and did a significantly better job. No decent stylist would have let me leave looking like this. Edited to add, replying to the owners comment: I was fine with the tone (although I did tell her it was more than any other stylist has done before)- my review doesn't mention thatat all. At the appointment I did not see that the entire back side of my head was not toned. Why does your reply not mention that? I have a photo attached of how bad it is. Would you be satisfied with that? Are those your typical standards? Your stylist saw that and hid it from me hoping I wouldn't notice. That is beyond negligent. I also had booked with a senior stylist and the stylist was switch on me after I booked. Had I know it was someone who didn't have any experience, I would have rejected and gone to another salon. Nobody should be getting their hair colored by Haley.

I’ve been seeing Laken at Red Chair salon for over a year now. Her fashion color is exceptional. She listens to what I want (skipping bleach sometimes, extra care with sensitive skin) and has fantastic vision for the look. It always fades beautifully, too. Staff is always friendly and I appreciate the appointment reminders - useful without being annoying. 🙂

Annalise was so nice and definitely made me feel taken care of and helped me get exactly what I wanted, and it turned out so pretty. Definitely my new favorite place and I'll be coming back! There is also a public parking lot across the street which is convenient.

Thank you to Laken for making my overgrown mushroom top pixie look so good. She listened to me and knew exactly how to create the look I wanted even when I *myself* was a bit confused on it. She touched it up for me a day later when I realized I wanted more hair taken off and was very accommodating and kind. Super skilled, attentive, and takes her time with you to make sure you get what you want.

Haley is just a lovely person. Listened to me, asked me lots of questions, took her time with a thoughtful consultation and understood my anxiety about not having been in a salon in a while. She only gave me the services I wanted, didn't try to sell me any products, didn't talk my ear off, didn't pull my hair while combing it, oh....and also gave me a gorgeous cut the first time! No adjustments needed! In addition, everyone in the place was cheerful and welcoming from the moment I walked in. What a great experience. Recommend.

The people who work here are angels. I had a hair emergency that kept getting worse because every salon I contacted couldn't book an ASAP appointment and didn't seem to care. My hair had gotten so tangled that it was matted, I had really long hair that was difficult to manage. I was devastated by the thought of losing all my hair- I felt that mu femininity was wrapped up in having long hair. The empathy of the receptionist and stylist blew me away. They got me in for a consult the next day, showed genuine care and concern that made the awful situation seem less dire. I was reassured that I would not need a Natalie Portman in V for Vendetta haircut. I ended up really, really liking the cute cut they gave me- it made me not mind having short hair! The ladies at Red Chair rescued me from Hair Hell, and I am so grateful to them! Will be coming back for other services!

I've been going to the Red Chair for years. I always get a cut and full foil. Amy is fantastic and she is a master at helping me find the right products for my fine hair.

Sarah is a fantastic cutter and stylist. Whenever I go there, I'm usually a few months late of when I should've gone. My hair looks stringy and sad. I just tell Sarah to do what she thinks and with her creative ability, I walk out with a great cut! So, I talked my husband into going with me to get his hair cut. My husband is the kind of man that shaves his head the minute it starts getting hot outside and that's what he calls a good haircut! He NEVER goes to salons, so I was a little apprehensive but Sarah made him feel absolutely comfortable. When all was said and done, he was really happy with both the cut and the style and continues to go back. Sarah really is the BEST and we feel fortunate to have her.

Wow. Used to be a fan, but, honestly, not going back considering the "owner's" comments. The guy seems to have issues. I can see now why so many stylists have left.

Always a positive experience at Red Chair! I get quick and helpful responses if I ever have scheduling issues. And I can honestly say Laken has given me my favorite haircut I've ever had! My hair is thick, wavy, and has a mind of its own; Laken takes the time to understand what it's trying to do and what I'd like it to do instead :)

I have been going to the Red Chair Salon for at least 15 years. Amy (owner) has been my stylist, and I love her however she is not taking new clients. But I can also attest to the other stylists as being great also. Occasionally Amy has been out, and I have had to use another stylist, and your primary stylist keeps notes so if someone has to fill in, they know your issues such as cowlicks. My mother at about 90 started going to Red Chair and loved Laken and the salon. All the staff is very responsive, returns calls and is very welcoming.

my first visit today. I had booked with Dolly for a free consult and a "custom cut." She was wonderful; she really listened to what i said, looked at the photos I brought, and then created it with a minimum of fuss. She taught me a lot about hair care generally, and kept my styling requirements to a minimum, which I very much appreciated. I highly recommend her to anyone looking for a great cut with low maintenance, and easily achievable styling options with few products. Thanx, Dolly!

Go see Dolly! She did a wonderful cut on my hair, one of the best cuts I've ever had. She knows what she's doing and I have to say, I've never been happier with a hair salon. The whole place is comfortable and welcoming and everyone is really nice. I asked to skip the hair washing because those bowls kill my neck. Seriously, I've always dreaded going to get my hair cut because of those damn things. I washed my hair before I went in and Dolly was fine with skipping it. She is really nice and accommodating. I highly recommend this salon and Dolly and will definitely be going back.

I have now gotten my hair done by Annalise twice and both experiences were amazing! She gave me the best haircut I have ever gotten and both times they absolutely nailed the color. I have had red hair for almost 4 years and after working with her, I can safely say she has given me my favorite shade/style yet. They executed my vision in a way that was even better than I hoped for! The environment of the salon is very welcoming and fun, which is nice. I am not a big talker while i get my hair done and here I have never felt awkward or uncomfortable due to my quietness. Annalise has always made me feel welcomed and comfortable in both the conversations we do have and the silence, which i really appreciate. I couldn't recommend their services enough!

So, let me start by saying that I am Asian and it is hard to find a stylist when I move to a new city. I started getting my haircut at Red Chair Salon in March of 2024. I have no regrets about having Kendal cutting my hair at all. I won't lie I was a bit worried heading into my first appointment it was my initial visit but she is a seasoned pro and knew what she was dealing when I was in her chair. She is very personable and understood my needs when I explained what I was hoping to get out of my haircut. If you need a haircut, I would suggest you give Kendal and Red Chair Salon a try if they are near where you live.

I love this salon! I had been looking for a place to get a fun color for a long time. I am very picky about my hair. I took a chance and first got a cut which was great and then got an appt with Kendal for color. I can honestly say that in the 10 years or more that I've been coloring my hair every fun color under the sun, that Kendal is THE best I've ever had :) It's been nearly two months and literally every single day, since day one, someone tells me how much they love my hair. Kendal was easy to talk to and time flew by. Everyone here was so nice and accommodating. Highly recommended Red Chair Salon and thank you Kendal for making me feel great during one of the hardest times in my life.

Kendal was awesome! Did a great job on my first-ever side cut(!!) and layered trim. Super personable and made me feel very comfortable feeling like I could ask for what I wanted, vs just assumimg that everything is good-to-go like many other stylists I've encountered. Will definitely be back!

The owner commented on my last review. I made no mistake. I visited this salon in Capital Hill. My appointment was in 2018 so It doesn't surprise me they don't have my name in their records. I stand by my review and would never recommend this salon to anyone looking for a "curly haircut. I'm posting a picture of my history in their scheduling app Schedulicity (I saw a stylist named Kathrine) and a picture of the "coil" product I felt pressured to buy.

Updating my review from 1 to 3 stars because the co-owner reached out and I genuinely believe the salon cares about the client experience and wanted to make things right. I think there are some areas for improvement at the salon, but the most important quality is the people (staff and clients) and the service and Red Chair Salon seems to care about both. If I try the salon again in the future I'll update to share my experience.

Wow this place is the BEST. After a ~traumatic~ haircut about two years ago I was fairly terrified of going to a hairdresser again, but as my split ends grew and grew I knew I could only go without for so long, so I tentatively started looking for a place to go that had experienced and qualified stylists who knew how to work on long, curly, men's hair - a lot of qualifiers that eliminates a majority of stylists. Luckily for me, I met Leah, the manager of this salon at a community event and she gushed over one of her stylists, Hannah, and her love of curly hair. Even more - this stylist has a lot of men's clients. Sounds great! The Salon itself has a professional yet personal vibe, with a lot of local art and an overall "Movie Theater meets Barber Shop meets Tattoo Parlor" aesthetic, and seems to serve a very diverse and inclusive crowd of customers. One of my favorite parts about walking into the Salon is their Salon Brand products. I'm definitely a hair nerd myself and I was really impressed by the quality of ingredients they offered in their product line at the affordable price they were able to offer it for. Don't worry though: For people who still want a big name brand product, they also retail Amika products. My stylist Hannah was absolutely fantastic and very passionate about her career and *so* knowledgeable. She was very easy to talk to, and knew so much about curly hair, cosmetic formulation, and biology as it pertains to hair. She was able to put me at ease and made the haircut enjoyable. I'm sensitive to some ingredients and she was super nonjudgmental and absolutely accommodating. Of course, the nicest stylist and prettiest salon mean nothing if the services aren't good but luckily that's not an issue here. Hannah was able to give me such a good haircut and styled my curly hair fantastically. My hair really feels like it just lays perfectly with all the volume in the right places and smoother where I want it, and she was able to lighten it up a ton without making it look thin. If you are in Seattle I absolutely recommend this salon to people of any background. From their ambiance to their service to the quality of their stylists it is total home run here. Book now - you won't regret it!

I wen to Red Chair for the first time recently. In fact I hadn't had a professional haircut in years, but my daughter's getting married and I thought I should. I've a little curl anxiety based on previous cuts. Kendall rocked. She listened to what I said. Gave me a lovely "Mother of the Bride" cut. And we chatted the whole time, which helped the curl anxiety. I still have curls! I recommend Red Chair whole heartedly

I really enjoyed my first visit to this salon. I love the atmosphere: the old building, the excellent soundtrack (which wasn't too loud and include some Bob Marley), and the chill vibe. I was super stressed when I arrived, but after chatting with my stylish, Dolly, I felt much more relaxed by the time I left. I really like the short cut she gave me.

Laken is the best! She's been amazing helping me manage an impulse haircut that I stupidly didn't get at Red Chair. The whole place is great and reminds me why I love Capitol Hill.

I had bleached, very dry "pandemic leftover" hair because we all messed with our hair during the pandemic. I waited until I felt like I could get a healthy chop, and booked with Dolly. She knew right away what I needed in a refresh, and got as aggressive as she could to cut the unhealthy hair, while maintaining enough of a length wherein I could still tie my hair. I'm very glad I booked with Red Chair. I always want to support a small business with local stylists!

Laken is the GOAT. I went in on Friday and got a taper fade, realized the blending could be better when I got home, called about it, boom appointment next day to get it cleaned up. Next day, she went straight to it, made sure I checked myself multiple times, and the deal was done. I saw many reviews being unhappy about their results, but they probably don't speak up about it, so how would the stylist know you don't like it, love? The salon also provides a complimentary touch-up within 4 weeks of the original appointment! Needless to say, I'm very happy with the results and this is my new go-to spot.

Worst haircut of my life. I asked for a buzz cut and it was too long and uneven in places. Very disappointed.

I've been going here for a hot minute now and I'm really grateful this place is in my neighborhood. I'm basically stuck in northeast capitol hill for life between Red Chair and my other favorite spots on 15th. The salon itself has a very cool vibe, sort of a tea house feel. All of my interactions with the folks who work there have been pleasant and professional. The vast majority of my visits have been with Sarah, and I always leave feeling 1000% percent better about myself than when I came in. She's really good at both listening, and intuiting what I want when I'm having a hard time articulating it. As an introverted person, I find our appointments to be very chill and there's no pressure to make smalltalk. Granted, we usually end up chatting, but I think it's worth noting when a stylist is a good match for a more introverted personality! Basically, if you're in northeast capitol hill and you want to do a thing with your hair, consider Red Chair

I've been getting my haircut here for years even after I moved from Capital Hill. I can't recommend them highly enough!

I went to Sarah to do a fashion color balayage and cut. Sarah was super friendly the whole time and even recommended that I get some long layers to help make my hair feel a little lighter. (My hair is very dark and thick.) I came in asking for a vibrant dark purple balayage and the initial result just did not show very much purple at all. Looking from the back, you couldn't even tell my hair was dyed, even in the sun. So I was pretty disappointed when I got home and took a closer look. However, I'm giving 5 stars because Sarah offered a complimentary redo after I showed her pics, and she agreed that it wasn't what I asked for. The second time I visited, it came out great! Still subtle indoors, but definitely a lot more pigment in the light, and you can actually see it from behind as well. Sarah also made sure to make it more dark purple than before, which had more of a reddish undertone. I don't fully blame her for the first visit because my hair is unusually thick, and she underestimated how much lightener and color I would need. I also really liked that she didn't push me to buy any of their products, which I was expecting. Instead, she recommended products to buy outside! I'm happy with the end result and would recommend Sarah :)

Been with Amy and her crew since the opening of Red Chair Salon. My hair is straight with cowlicks and difficult to cut and I'm very happy to have someone who reliably gives me a haircut that I am happy with.

Update: Especially for you, Howie. I did stop by the salon the same week my hair was hacked up. They didn't help me. It should behoove you to validate the customer experience and take some honest feedback about errors your stylists are making. I'm quite aware of what it takes to cut curly hair - and your stylist did not get it right. I will be sure to tell anyone I know to stay away from your salon.

I've been going to Red Chair for several years now, and always had great results and great service. I see Laken now, and she's amazing, but I've also had my hair done by Allyson in the past. I get my hair colored (blonde highlights and fashion colors) and I've also had them do balayage in the past. Really, they are experts with color. The salon is fun, but relatively calm, and I appreciate that they ask everyone to mask while inside.

I love this salon! Laken is an absolute wizard with colour and has worked with me to find and evolve my look. All of the staff are friendly and knowledgable and I always feel taken care of here.

*** The Best Balayage & Highlights, especially for brunettes! *** I have been going to Sarah at Red Chair Salon for the last 1 year, and she is the best on highlighting and balayage. I have been living in Seattle for 8 years, I am picky. Before Sarah (and Red Chair Salon), when I got the balayage or highlights, and because they never looked the way I wanted, I used to color them myself at home in a month or two. Now with Sarah, the most I did was changing my shampoo. Her work is amazing! *** Sarah is an artist! *** 1- She listens to you. 2- She knows what she is doing. 3- She knows what will work with your hair. 4- She tests your hair before doing anything (This is a major difference in my opinion). 5- She has a very good taste on what looks good, what looks fashion, what looks natural, and more importantly how the color will age on your specific hair. 6- The highlights is super blending, especially if you are starting to get more than 1-2 hair strings of white. I seriously love what she does with my hair every single time. Not a single regret here! If I could give more than 5 starts, I would.

I am new to the area and wasn't sure where to go for a haircut. I have fine straight hair that can be difficult to layer. I went to Red Chair after viewing several pictures of straight hair cuts. I am very happy and relieved with the results. Dolly did a fantastic job layering my hair and texturizing the edges just like I asked. I can air dry my hair and it looks great. Everyone I encountered at the salon was very nice. Highly recommend.

Sarah is an absolute gem of a human who gave me the best haircut/ color I've had in years if not ever. Her earlier appointment was running behind because the person didn't book properly but she treated me like a person and a pro. ( If that lady doesn't leave a review I'll just say that she must have said ten times how much she loved HER hair before she left.) She gave me beautiful, subtle highlights, a lovely update to my shag while still retaining my hairs character, and a blow out I could have never done on my own. 10/10 recommend.

Hannah was unpleasant. She complained a few times about the appt. time (not my fault your salon offers evening appts.) and seemed annoyed by my questions. When it was time to pay, she suddenly became undeniably condescending. She just came off as petty and nasty, and talked about herself (and religion, no thanks) ad nauseam, which I would've thought was just annoying and not worthy of a review if she hadn't been so rude otherwise. Pretty sure I'm not a difficult client, and even with clients you dislike, being openly impatient and disrespectful isn't the solution. Wouldn't let her touch me again, which was apparently her M.O. Allyson gave me a lovely cut once, though, so, three stars for the salon in general.
