I made a last-minute decision to hike the Norfolk Coast path with a large group of friends who were all booked in to stay at Sheringham. The Red Lion found me a room and to my delight it was a luxury suite. I decided to spoil myself and take it. The staff got me an extra large fan and went out of their way to make me feel welcome during my stay. I managed the hike on the hottest weekend of the year and I was so grateful for Cromer's sea breezes! The delicious breakfasts (with a sea view) set me up for walking each day and having my suite to come back to in the evening made the break even more lovely, thank you for your hospitality.

Only piped in for a drink and this is the best pub in the area for real ales. What’s a selection they have. You must stay for a hour or six and try all of them. Food looked good and the atmosphere was really nice 👍 In the words of Arnold “I’ll be back”

After lots of research for somewhere in North Norfolk to stay I decided on The Red Lion. |I was not disappointed. A lovely welcome on entering the place, check in was very easy as I had completed the on line details. Luckily we had arrived early so secured a good place in the quite small but very secure car park. |Our room was lovely. A beautiful view with window seats looking out over the pier and sea. |Really clean and comfortable room with everything we could need. Tea, coffee, home made biscuits and water. Nice toiletries provided together with hairdryer, heater and fan. |Lovely touches are the fridge room so you can help yourself to fresh milk for your tea and an honesty box with a selection of goodies including a teddy, chocolate, gin and tonic, wine, peanuts. |The window is great as you can open it at night to get great fresh sea air. |Dinner was lovely with good service in the great restaurant with nice decoration and ambiance. |Breakfast was very relaxed with fantastic friendly service and really amazing food. |We both had juice, toast, fruit, tea and eggs Benedict. This was all included in the price of the room. |Very pleased with everything about this place. Will definitely return.

My parents and I enjoyed an exemplary meal at the Red Lion yesterday. The food was incredible across the board, the staff were lovely and the service was great. Dog friendly too! We had a wonderful time, the best meal out we’ve had in a while.

I fear my review may be too long and only echo the very positive ones below. This was just a fabulous three night stay, my wife and I and two very well-behaved black labradors.Unusually for us on UK mini-breaks, the weather was warm and sunny, the Red Lion would have been that if it were snowing, I suspect. The hotel is comfortable and welcoming. I didn't once feel it was too 'posh', looking like a photo-shoot from a fashion magazine. Instead, I saw how diligent the cleaners, waiters etc. were at all times, wiping not only table tops but chairs too. The food was fantastic and well-priced. Very generous spaces between tables. Breakfast historic, and sausages for the dogs, too. Possibly a different vibe in Cromer in high season and school holidays. If you don't like dogs, probably best avoided. Norwich Wingman scrumpy cider should have been more responsibly rationed in my view. Go!!

A beautiful room in a beautiful hotel. I really recommend. Great breakfast, lovely pub with a wide range of ales and beers. Room was immaculate, and the seaviews are terrific. The house keeping staff were second to none. This was my second visit. Why not 5 stars? I felt the service was lacking slightly when compared with our previous visit. It was a special occasion for us and although we put that in the booking notes, it didn’t get mentioned at all.

Google
A lovely place thats so full of character with very helpful & friendly staff. We booked for Sunday lunch and the food was amazing. The pub and restaurant are very dog friendly. This is the first dog friendly restaurant weve been to, where you're not put in the back of beyond. We had a glorious sea view and enjoyed some lovely food. We had such a relaxed Sunday roast. Highly recommend!!!

Yelp
Nice pub atmosphere with comfy sofas and good food. The 'Eton Mess' is a scrumptious mountain of meringue, fresh cream, berries, and white chocolate shavings. Oy!

Yelp
As a Cromer resident, this is actually my favourite place to go for a drink or meet friends. I like the character, cosiness and 'laid back' atmosphere and always manage to get a seat. There is a variety of seating options including some more private areas and staff are friendly and attentive. I'm not impressed with the food giving value for money, and the quality seems to be inconsistent but there is a reasonable range of choice. The decor needs some attention with paint peeling from the stained glass divisions, woodwork and ceilings and tends to make me wonder whether it's because of wanting to retain original features, and William Morris wall coverings that it appears so neglected 'yellowed'. The women's toilets are always clean and functional and provide quality extras, my only complaint is the height of the mirrors, I'm 5'2 and can only see my face if I stand on tip-toes. I should mention here that I have never stayed in the actual hotel, so my comments are about using the bar. Ye Olde Red Lion Hotel also has a banquetting hall and when it's laid out for a function it looks truely amazing and very 'olde worlde' I've just given this venue an extra star,( it should be 4 stars now) as recently there seems to be an improvement in the consistency of quality of food. I've taken a few more people to eat and drink there and they have all liked it and would return.

Yelp
Booked for a meal just after Christmas and took four foodie guests hoping to impress. The restaurant was chilly and the log burner fires remained unlit despite it being an extremely cold night. The menu was very limited with a very unexciting choice. We would have left at this point but had a taxi booked for our return home. Ordered our first choice of starter and was informed that it was not available....even more limited menu! Cheese soufflés didn't resemble soufflés in any way being 'sloppy' like a half set blancmange. Ordered main courses meals and were informed the vegetables offered on the menu were not available. Accepted an alternative but when the meals arrived the vegetables were different to the ones offered and were extremely minimal...only two varieties with the fish dish, one of which was more of a decoration on the plate. Steaks arrived almost raw, grey in colour with raw white fat on the sides, accompanying veg; half a tomato and one mushroom. Chosen desserts...no longer available. We left without desserts and made our way to a pub nearby to finish our evening and await our taxi. We were given a discount on the bill but this did not make up for a terrible meal and ruined evening. I have written to the manager and gave them a month in which to reply; they haven't even bothered to do that. Hence my late review.

Yelp
My heart started to sink as soon as I began to order lunch at the Bar. Minimum order of £15 for credit cards Boss and You can't run a tabsorry pay now OK . Perhaps they have had a spate of people doing a runner ? I don't know but Just got my back up from the start. Food arrived after about 25 mins, cold, and uninspiring. Great view of the Pier and Sea front from the Public bar but that's about it. Give it a miss. A shame .It could be so much better.

Yelp
Went in last week. The new owners have transformed the place. Recommended for food and drink (decent range of real ale). Great views of the sea

Yelp
My oh my was this a let down or what. place was filthy and stank of somthing off. My friends had heard good things about it so we went for lunch. food was seriously over-priced and took agessss to come, waitress then mixed up an order and had to wait for another 15 mins for it to come and by then everyone else had finished. dont recommend this to anyone who knows good food and value....

Yelp
Fantastic has been refurbished. We come back time and time again. The Red Lion is nothing like it was before the refurbishment. It is also the sister to the newly rebuilt Bella Vista opposite the pier.
