The fish and chips were awesome, I told the waiter they should add it to the menu. The pizza was really good too. Service was excellent as well.

The woodfired ovens give the food a wonderful flavor. I had the wings, my favorite, they were scrumptious. Nice, crisp and not too hot. My wife hat the daily soup ,pablano corn chowder, and the watermelon goat cheese arugula salad. All was very enjoyable. Made our trip from Orlando worthwhile.

A quaint busy restaurant in downtown Oswego. Outdoor seating on the street and large amount of booths and tables inside. Friendly service with recommendations and specials. The waitress also asked if there were any allergies. Started with the fried artichokes with sunflower seed gremolata and citrus aioli. The artichokes were lightly coated and perfect size to pick up and dip. The gremolata added another crunch and deserved a spoon to get it all. I had the Atlantic Cod with roasted mushrooms and bok choy with a carrot ginger puree. The fish was slightly crispy and fell apart when cut. The carrot ginger puree added a perfect sweetness to the dish. I probably would have licked my plate if I didn't have bread to use. My husband had the special bay scallop scampi with fresh roasted tomatoes and shaved parmesan. The sauce was bright and lemony. Highly recommend this restaurant if you visit Oswego!

We got seated right away. Waiter was great. Food was okay. Burger came out small and overcooked. Bun was overly toasted. Wish the rigatoni had more/bigger pieces of sausage, seemed like a $22 bowl of pasta and sauce.

Google
Food was good but not great. My wife's meal was bland. Stick with what you know. I was with a party of four and had a good time. I would try this place again.

Google
Nice place, great food, fresh & well prepared, nice bar area, great staff. Four stars for atmosphere only because we were seated in the back alcove & it needs some love. Our view of the river was thro dirty glass & window frames that need a touch up. Would go back again & recommend to fellow visitors to Oswego. The River Walk & old downtown are fun, safe & walkable. Four stars on atmosphere only because we were seated in the back alcove & it needs some love. Our view of the river was through dirty glass & windows that needed a touch up. It's a renovated historic building so that's understandable.

This was our 2nd visit to Red Sun and again we had a wonderful meal. My food did come out not completely hot, I pointed this out to my server and she apologized and quickly took my food back to the kitchen. I’m just a few minute my meal was out and nice and hot. I don’t usually send food back but if you don’t tell them there is a problem they won’t know. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his pizza. This is our go to when we are in Oswego. Great spot for dinner.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, great service and great food. What more could you ask for? Conveniently located in downtown Oswego within walking distance of hotels. The food is good and not your standard fare type restaurant. The menu items change on occasion to keep things fresh and give their patrons the opportunity to experience something new. A must try is their stretched bread app. If you don't want a full traditional dinner and you're looking for something simple, their wood fire pizza is a tremendous option. Give this place a try. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
We loved The Red Sun during out recent trip to Oswego. Located right downtown, the restaurant was cool and spacious without feeling cavernous; they found a good balance of a lofty feel without being echoy and vacant. The food was delicious. We had the Stretched Bread (best "sweet guinness beer reduction" sauce I've ever had - like a balsamic, but better), and for dinner we ordered the Shrimp Provencal (delicious risotto!) and the 10-oz Sirloin Steak. The star of the meal was the sweet corn veloute that was served the steak - I would have bottled it and taken it home if I could have! Nice service and reasonable pricing. Would definitely go back!

Yelp
Laurie and William O'Brien opened the Red Sun Roasting Co in April 2010, with a menu influenced by O'Brien's native California, where everything is cooked in a wood-fired oven. With big modern art murals, a sleek beer and wine bar, coupled with a relaxed, casual atmosphere, Red Sun Roasting's intent is top make you feel as if you are dining in a big metropolitan city. The globally influenced menu offers something for everyone. It features pizza, burgers, wings, pasta, seafood, and steaks, and an open kitchen where you can watch as the staff prepares your meal. Wife and I stopped in here after having a spa day for some dinner. Honestly, we chose it because it was one of the very few restaurants to choose from in Oswego and they had the best looking menu, but we're glad we did, because everything was delicious. We were sat right away, around 5:30PM on a Saturday. Easy street parking in the little village square. My wife ordered their soup of the day, which was a homemade coconut curry, and it was amazing. We got an appetizer of their corn fritters, their fire roasted chicken wings, and a Tumbleweed wood fired pizza for our meal. Everything was great, absolutely loved the pizza, as the BBQ sauce on it was amazing, wasn't extremely sweet like a lot of BBQ sauces, just very flavorful. Our server was great, despite having some problem customers right behind us. Prices were a little bit higher than similar places, but the food was worth it. We also took home two pieces of their home made cake, a raspberry almond and chocolate peanut butter. Both were awesome, but the peanut butter one was both of our favorites. Definitely get dessert from them if you dine here. It's rare I give out 5 star reviews, but there really wasn't anything I could find that wasn't great here. Would absolutely go again.

Yelp
Started my night off with a Pumpkin Bisque Soup which was really really good along side the Overly Sweet Ol Fashioned. Pairs well in my book. Service was fast and the staff knows the menu Like the Bread and Dipping Sauce that was delivered as well. Restaurant is quaint with a pleasing ambiance. Nice murals on the walls. Good selections of wine & spirits although I wish there were more Bourbons. Fresh made Pasta is a bonus and worth the wait. I went with the Wild Mushroom Pasts add a Chicken to top it all off. This was a really good meal that will be revisited upon my return. Dinner was so good it needed a dessert to top it off! Mixed Berry Panna Cotta! Aw Yeah!

Yelp
Got sat right away and are good about their reservations! Our server was excellent! The food was soo good! We got the stretch bread and clams to start out with and there is so much flavor it all just melt in your mouth! The pizza was so good I had to take a bite before I took the picture. Such a cute date night place!

Yelp
We found this great spot for dinner. The menu had a large selection of interesting dishes. I tried the autumn veggie pizza which was wood fired and so delicious. They also have a couple mocktails so I tried the Amaretto Sour and it is my new favorite drink! The staff were very friendly and the service was very fast. Overall the dining area is very cozy and it was nicely decorated for Christmas.

Yelp
Fortunately Red Sun rotates their menu regularly. I've tried a different pasta dish, two salads, and a pizza on subsequent visits. All were delicious and I would go back for more. I would still avoid the maple syrup gnocchi though.

Yelp
This restaurant alone will bring me back to Oswego! Wow!! if you have us headed to Oswego from Rochester to visit a friend who recently moved and enjoyed walking around the main street area and exploring some of the neighborhoods. When it was time for lunch, our friend suggested, red fire roasting company ... and were we glad she did! For starters, we have the most amazing service. The interior is super hip and chic. You can't go wrong on the menu choices and the cocktails are so delicious. We all have salads and shared a pizza, and it was more than enough food for four. Definitely going back to Oswego just to have a great meal here
google avatar

Daniel L.

Yelp
Have been here a few times over the past couple of years, they have improved with the pizza and other entrees I've seen. And the service has been way better.
google avatar

Akilah R.

Yelp
Would have loved to rate the food but didn't have the opportunity. We came, it was busy, totally get it. Then five different people proceeded to walk by me and our group of 4 without acknowledging... I get it, you are busy but not busy enough to drop a hint (oh its so busy, we have such a waitlist, and my personal favorite - finally acknowledging me long enough to tell me my wait will be 30 minutes since I don't have a reservation - hint, your website states if its not a party of 6 or more, I can't make a reservation). Ultimately, here's the thing, you acknowledge the folks who are standing at the hostess dais for over five minutes, you balance reality with customer service (ie I am so sorry to have kept you all waiting, we are packed this evening and can't fit you in for another 30 minutes, can we put you on our waitlist?). Finally, Bistro 197 is next door, was as busy and even down a waitress, but they named that as the reality and said the wait would be 30 minutes and were just nicer human beings - so I waited there and the food was everything.

Yelp
Excellent service and the food is delish and different. Love this place as it can be a nice spot for dinner for 2 or dinner with a few rowdy girlfriends. I had the short ribs! Will definitely get those again. They switch out their menu seasonally so it's a spot to check out more than once.

Yelp
This place was good but not amazing. I was perplexed with all the 5 star reviews. Maybe the items I ordered were ok. The Arugula salad looked healthy and light but it was drenched with sweet sauce. The decor is nice and the margarita pizza had a nice crisp to it. The place was good but not amazing. I guess in Oswego there are limited options. Id rather go to the rooftop. Service was good.
google avatar

Miranda C.

Yelp
Such delicious unique food choices. I try something different every time as they feature a daily special.

Yelp
Great food, good service, and overall the food is healthy and makes your body what you've been doing wrong all your life. Went there back in March.

Yelp
Wow excellent meal I was skeptical but these folk really have it together the service was great and the meals some of the best we have had on our trip though the area Ambiance was great Plus I feel for what we ordered and received I think the pricing was very reasonable

Robin P.

Yelp
Absolutely perfect! The decor is relaxing & the service amazing! Highly recommend! Was there in late August

Yelp
We found this place when we came to Oswego for our granddaughter's lacrosse game and found out we had the wrong time and had to wait an hour. We came in for a drink but were so impressed when we walked in. This is a beautifully done restaurant - modern but cozy. We sat at the bar and were immediately greeted by the bartender. She let my husband sample a few beers and had a chilled glass ready for him when he made his selection. I ordered a glass of Cabernet. She even brought us a couple pieces of the most wonderful bread and dipping oil even though we weren't ordering food. We literally just had a drink but felt so warmly welcomed that we can't wait to come back for dinner. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Sally S.

Yelp
I don't want to give this place a bad review, but I just think our ideas of what makes up a margarita pizza are very different. From the look of the other food- it seem like this is a good place. I'm used to a pizza with sauce and blobs of mozzarella and fresh basil. This is a plain pizza with no sauce *cries* and shredded mozzarella, blobs of mozzarella, freaking sliced tomatoes, and basil. Well, I hate sliced tomatoes and so this was just horrible. Maybe if I just stuck with the regular pizza with pepperoni I might have been better off. I can't get over the sliced tomatoes...I'll never blindly trust another pizza place again. I'm so upset that they put sliced tomatoes on my margarita pizza. Actually, I'm more upset that the chef decided it was a good idea to do this and no one vetoed them. I'm going to stop talking about the sliced tomatoes and hopefully the chef goes back to pizza school and figures this out for the next unsuspecting visitor. Epic fail.

Yelp
I visited The Red Sun while on vacation. The ambiance is nice and the service was great. Unfortunately, when I ordered the Puebla pizza it came out kinda charred. Instead of tasting the toppings, I only tasted charred pizza. I decided to change my order and get the Americana; it came out even more charred than the first pizza (photo attached). The Americana was brought out for the second time and it was good. I really wanted to give this place 5 stars. The server, Nick, was attentive and understanding, and tried to correct my order each time. Although my experience wasn't the best, I would still recommend this place. They deserve a second try. Ordered: Puebla Americana J Lohr Bay Mist (Riesling)

Yelp
The food was fantastic! I got the fish and chips special and the fish was perfectly light and fluffy and crispy and moist. Also tried the steak sandwich which was also delicious. Our waiter was so kind, courteous, and really personable! He even brought a little bag of crackers for our baby which was sweet :) There was both indoor and outdoor seating and both were nice!

Yelp
I really hate to sound negative especially after so many 5 star reviews but this place is very very bad. My friends came from out of town and wanted to eat there so i met them. I ordered pizza it was bad. Crust was burnt but they may call it chard. I had sausage on mine and the sausage was so hard i almost broke a tooth. One of my friends got pizza and removed the burnt sections and had a whole plate of burnt sections. My other friend ordered a steak medium rare and there was no sign of pink even on the inside. The chairs were so hard and uncomfortable we could barely get up. The old old windows had pealing paint. Needless to say i will never ever walk in there again. Service was ok because there were so many employees for such a small amount of patroons. The hardwood floors had a grease coating where the cooking area was and i had to walk very slowly to avoid falling. I paid much more for a 12" pizza that i would have paid for a 16" pie and any other place, and it was burnt. Im sorry but i would recommend this to anyone

Reagan O.

Yelp
5 stars to the water girl and bartender. was told 45 minute wait. Was ok with that. 45 minutes later was told 25 minutes. ok, fine sat at the bar and had a drink. When the table was ready it took ten minutes for the waiter to come. We placed the order and waited 30'minites with out seeing the waiter again. Drinker needed refill, except the water! We needed up walking out, after speaking to the hostess who said she would comp the entire meal. We declined. Ended up at Bistro 197.

Yelp
Spacious good booth sitting, very comfortable! Bathrooms were very nice and clean! Atmosphere is very comfortable and welcoming!

Yelp
Very pretty inside, great ambiance with open kitchen. Had the Osso Bucco, very tenders The sweet potatoe purée was fantastic.

Yelp
The food was outstanding! We all Had different appetizers and entrees... delicious! Our server was super nice and had a great sense of humor! I also loved being able to watch our food being prepared. There is a lot to be said about seeing a chefs pride right in front of you. Kudos the Red Sun!!!!!
google avatar

Jeff G.

Yelp
Wow, I really like this place! I felt like some pizza, but not just dough & sauce in a box. Red Sun looked like a cut above the rest, and it is. I opened with a small Caesar salad, and it was really good, but the best was yet to come. I ordered the Americana with some sausage and portobellos added on, Wow! Crispy crust, great balance of sauce & cheese, perfectly done. It was tangy and really flavorful. My wife is a vegetarian and I can't wait to turn her onto this pizza (minus the sausage). One of the best pizzas I've ever had. Check out Red Sun, it's a home run!
google avatar

Andrianna L.

Yelp
Best restaurant in Oswego! The food speaks for itself, delicious. The cafe next door is cute and I would recommend checking it out, the cafe is where The Red Sun makes their desserts too.
google avatar

Thomas B.

Yelp
Consistent good food & service. Menu rotates seasonally. Fall/Winter menus are my fave.
google avatar

Tina W.

Yelp
The pizza was good the atmosphere was cute on a nice street but the Cesar dressing tasted to much of mayonnaise
google avatar

Fred S.

Yelp
Aesthetically pleasing with an open kitchen. Service is attentive without being pestering. And the food was tasty.

Yelp
I love this place, and I hope it will be my go-to when in Oswego. I had lunch here with friends, and started with a huge Cesar Salad, which was full of shaved parm, with just the right amount of dressing. This was followed by one of the best brick oven pizzas, ever. I had the "Upper Crust" pizza, with an assortment of veggies and cheeses. It was fantastic; a light crust, with just the right amount of toppings. One of my friends had the same, and could not stop talking about it the entire afternoon. This 14" pizza was so good, and the salad so big, I could only eat two of the five slices. Our server was accommodating to my friend using a wheelchair, and staff were friendly. Overall, a great experience.

Juliana W.

Yelp
Truly the worst experience. My family and I made a reservation here for graduation weekend, we understand that it was busy but we waited for everything. It till forever for the server to greet us, to get our drinks, appetizers, drinks came over wrong. We ended up having to leave as it took almost 2 hours for our food and the waitress only came over three times the whole time we were there. The manager wouldn't even come over to let us know what is going on. Extremely upset and they ruined what was suppose to be such a special day. I would not recommend AT ALL. I'm not sure being in business is the best thing for this restaurant. 0/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Julie B.

Yelp
Wonderful!!! Great service. Delicious food! We had stretch bread appetizer, clams, pizza and roasted chicken. Only snapped a pic of the chicken!!

Yelp
Delicious food, fast and friendly service. So many options to choose from and a perfect atmosphere.

Yelp
While I enjoy cooking some days you simply want to relax. Last evening I enjoyed dinner with my niece and her two young children. We were seated quickly, served quickly and received our check quickly. We were in a rush so I appreciated the attentiveness of the server. Now lets get to the food. We each ordered something different and we each loved our meal. While I don't eat our often this is one of my favorite dinner out spot. As if all this wasnt enough the outdoor seating area was perfect and comfortable. Thank you Red Sun we will be visiting you again soon.

Yelp
We were staying at the marina close by after a rough day on the water with weather Looked up this restaurant online and decided to give it a try . It did not disappoint . The Thai lettuce wraps were delicious and so was the Shrimp pasta dish especially the sauce . We were able to see the chef preparing the food from our table . Service was great and so was the wine . We will definitely return when we are in the area again . Loved this place

Yelp
Stopped here for our Friday night pizza tradition at recommendation of Oswego West Pierhead lighthouse boat crew, Steve and Chuck. Not disappointed! Delicious oven fired pizza - we tried the Purple Pig. We had to satisfy our sweet tooth so we got a slice of raspberry almond cake - YUM!! Great atmosphere and service!! Would definitely return if in the area again.

Yelp
We had a lovely lunch at Red Sun while in town. The service was good and our waiter was happy to explain some of the dishes and give his favorites. I started with the fried zucchini chips. They were thinly sliced, fried and nice and crunchy without being greasy or oily. The sauce served with them was scrumptious. Mr. B had a cup of chili and he said it was a bit spicy but not overly and was really quite good. He had a margharita pizza, and it had a nice crispy crust and great seasonings. I ordered one of the lunch specials which was Asian Tacos. The tortillas were filled with tender, shredded braised beef and crunch slaw and pickled onions which balanced the tacos perfectly. Parking is on the street. The restaurant closes mid afternoon and then re-opens for dinner. If you try to have lunch after 2 pm, they will be closed. We thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant and the food!

Yelp
As I have my favorite haunts here, I thought I'd spread some love to another local establishment. So I came here twice this visit; first for pizza on Tuesday night and then for shared appetizers and dessert Friday night. We split a wood-fired Americana pizza with pepperoni. The crust was far softer than I'd expect for baking method and although copious with mozzarella cheese, it was good, but not great. On Friday night, we tried the stretch bread with cheddar beer dip and sweet Guinness beer reduction. Stretch bread, for those not in the know, is a central NY recipe originally created by Laura Holland and is famous for its use at Pastabilities (more infamously and controversially known at Rosalia's Cucina in Skaneateles). The Red Sun version was pretty good and I really liked the reduction which gave it a molasses-like flavoring. The cheddar dip, however, was a bit of a disappointment. Although very creamy, it lacked cheddar (or beer) flavor and was just okay. If it had been more like a Welsh rarebit, I think it would have been better. Next we split the Thai Chicken Lettuce Wraps. These were excellent. Even the peanut sauce was spot on. This is a winner. Our third choice was the baked Brie; wrapped in phyllo and drizzled with golden raisins, (over) roasted almond slivers and honey-thyme drizzle. I felt the phyllo was a bit overkill (was wrapped thickly versus lightly) and detracted a bit from its gooey contents. The crostini it was served with was overly seasoned; you could distinctly taste the salt. That too detracted from the overall dish. As dessert, we opted for the Cookies and Cocoa for Two. The European-style cookies are made in their bakery and were truly delicious. They were soft, delicately flavored and perfect for dunking or eating without. The cocoa, described as a sipping cocoa, looked amazing, but it was lukewarm. We aren't sure what happened, but the contents were more like lumpy chocolate sludge. I swear I got a sip of chocolate syrup, too. So I found it undrinkable. Unfortunately, our server had quickly dropped the check right after we received dessert, so I didn't have an opportunity to tell her about the drink issue. As we were leaving, I asked her about the cookies (as she was seated cleaning silverware), but I didn't want to tell her at that moment about the drink (it was honestly too late for a replacement and what else could she have done other than apologize? Wasn't the right time). Although the service is good, the food is lacking. I feel, however, that with some tweaking, this could be another great dining option in Oswego.

Yelp
We went up to take our daughter to Orientation in Oswego. The first night we ate at the place on the top floor with the outdoor patio. Unfortunately we were pleased with the service or food so we looked on here. We chose this based on reviews and wow we were so glad we did. I got Peruvian chicken. I substituted the beans and spinach for potatoes and wow was I glad I did. I honestly have to admit they just might have been the best potatoes I have eaten. The chicken was amazing as well. My wife and daughter also loved their meals. We are headed back up from Florida again on the 12th and we definitely will be eating there again. Our server which I believe was named Dave was awesome as well. He was pleasant to speak with and humorous. Thank you for the fabulous dinner and experience
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely love their seasonally changing menu! I'm.vegan and they ALWAYS have at least one option and the kitchen is always willing to help. The servers and bar backs are wonderful, attentive and capable. The food is fantastic. Been here several times with zero complaints!!

Yelp
Based on Yelp reviews, we suspected The Red Sun was one of the top restaurants in Oswego. We were not disappointed. Obviously popular, we decided on an early dinner on a Tuesday night and before we left every table was occupied and there were a few people waiting for a table. Service by Emily was very friendly and competent. Management was very responsive to my wife who was uncomfortable due to a cold draft and resolved the issue by adjusting the thermostat, turning off a ceiling fan and checked back twice. Food was special. My wife's pasta dish was excellent, including perfectly cooked al dente with tasty sausage made on site. My steak special was potentially very special except for too much salt. I couldn't finish it. Emily offered to replace it in kind or with anything else I wanted. I should have asked for a new steak, but it was getting late and I had a pizza instead. Too bad, because the steak dinner was a great recipe. Minus one star for the salt. I hope someone told the chef to avoid it happening again. So, in summary, excellent service, great pasta and sausage entree and an excellent plum mule cocktail...one of the best mules I have ever tasted.

Scott V.

Yelp
Always one of our favorites when Apple picking in the Oswego area. We have missed dining here over the past 18 months. Did take out tonight and the Black Pepper Gnocchi Alfredo were amazing. My wife never eats more than half of an entre and she gobbled this up quickly. The Gnocchi were light and tasty. The mushrooms, spinach, and squash were an awesome combo. Also had the Fried Cornbread which I enjoyed. Still 5 stars from me!

Yelp
We on Sat. before 2pm. The open board was on the sidewalk, we went in and wait 5 min. for someone to see us.....and we told they were closed.....it was still before 2pm.....we had to next door had lunch when we left went by and the sidewalk was still outside.....My guess is they can't figure out how to run a restaurant.

Yelp
This is our family favorite, and I can't say I have ever left disappointed. The menu items are creative and flavorful, well worth a higher price point than you might find at other area locations. The atmosphere is really modern, the service has always been attentive, and it really does feel like it belongs in a metropolitan area. Oswego is really lucky to have local businesses like this one! Tonight I ordered the Brutus pizza (brussels sprouts, bacon, lemon aioli) and an appetizer of the stretched bread, which has never failed to be excellent! I've always appreciated the variations in menu options; they draw from different sources and inspirations to create some quite unique dishes.

Yelp
Very friendly staff and good food. I highly recommend this place to eat. Very good panini sandwiches

Yelp
I had the Wood fire roasted chicken breast, parmesan risotto, rosemary chicken demi, broccoli [gf] Best risotto I ever had. The rosemary Demi-glaze was delicious. One of the best meals I've had in a very long time. Also had 2 glasses of homemade Red Sangria which were awesome. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
I travel to Oswego quite a bit. I go red sun once a twice a week. I also take any new travelers from my group here. Everyone has liked it. My favorite waiter is Steve. He does voice overs on the side and my favorite is probably his Scottish accent. Anyway the menu constantly changes and I look forward to there new menus.
