This may be obvious, but Atlantis is a behemoth resort---with all the pros and cons that come with properties that size-- that spans most of Paradise Island (an extension of Nassau), with public areas, pools, beaches, rides galore.||There is an efficient shuttle that runs between the different hotels. The most central building is the Royal, which has closest access to the entertainment and water slides aquarium, casino, and convention center; however, it can be a zoo and we preferred our stay at the Reef, which was on the Western side of the Island, and a 10-15 min walk or 10 min shuttle ride away. The rooms in the Reef were designed for owner occupancy, so they come with kitchenettes (built into the wall but fairly well equipped with a stove, microwave, fridge, and even a dishwasher). The rooms are large, and the beds very comfortable (a must for me). Air conditioning worked spectacularly well. The swimming pools by the Reef are okay but the beach area was by far my favorite -- the water is calmer and clearer, and the beach less touristy than at other parts of the hotel. ||My only complaint (if that) was that everything was very expensive. We did not eat at many of the hotel establishments (many were way out of our price range) but there was a lovely pizza shop by the Marina that sold (fairly substantial and tasty) slices for $7 a piece. Definitely worth it. There are also Starbucks in most of the buildings which at least were priced comparably to Stateside locations.||The hotel staff were truly friendly and warm- it never felt forced or fake. Very friendly people in general. I probably would not stay here again because my preference is for smaller, boutique properties, but I found no faults with Atlantis. ||Room suggestions: If you want to be in the epicenter of everything then choose the Royal, but if you like serenity and a nice beach, I would opt for the Reef or Cove (the latter is I believe all suite).
