The Residence hotel

An eclectic hotel with a vintage vibe. Initially, I felt as if I was inside of a plantation especially with the artwork. Nestled in a corner was a painting of Mandela. The outdoor areas are beautiful and tranquil. Our rooms were clean, but the bed was not comfortable. The dining experience varied, some nights it was a 5 star experience other nights the food was filled with oil. The only thing that bothered me was seeing the same servers for breakfast at 7 am and at dinner. One waiter walked into a glass wall, I think from fatigue. I hope the staff is being compensated for overtime. Please tip them. Also, I didn't like that there was no iron in my room. Although I requested my clothes be ironed, they were still wrinkled once brought back. Overall I recommend

Of all the places I've ever stayed this was by far the most amazing. Guests are treated like royalty and customer service is next level. Staff go the extra mile to make their quest feel welcome and as comfortable. The rooms are absolutely beautiful and very stylishly decorated with a touch of gold and a dash of old, combined with amazing art throughout the entire hotel. Every staircase and corner a new and amazing surprise. Gourmet dining with live piano in the background is a lovely experience and breakfast is superb. Variety and taste served just the way you like it. I highly recommend this beautiful jewel with its awesome, friendly staff and tranquil, romantic atmosphere.

Comes exactly as advertised. Spacious rooms with great comfort. It is really a boutique hotel, exquisite. We had a great weekend here, so serene. The spa and all other services were top notch. They really took care of us over the weekend.

The property is beautiful, and all of the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We stayed in the Pool Villa, which had a very spacious bedroom with walk-in closet, a large bathroom with separate tub and shower, a lounge separate from the bedroom and a private terrace with heated plunge pool. The food at both breakfast and dinner was excellent. We had great hotel-provided transfers to and from the airport and a fantastic private tour of Johannesburg and Soweto, which we arranged through The Residence.

After a long trip to South Africa from Australia, it was wonderful to arrive at such a lovely hotel. This place is charming, warm and inviting, the rooms were beautifully decorated and the restaurant served fantastic food for dinner and breakfast. Was quite convenient to the airport, a great choice for a luxurious stay in Johannesburg!

We spent a couple of days here before going on to Botswana, and it was a great place to lay our heads. The room was beautiful, and the service was excellent. Meals were delicious and inexpensive. Our only criticism: the safe in our room was broken when we got there, and we were lulled into a false sense of comfort by the excellent service. As a result, we had money stolen while we were out. That's on us... we should have asked for a different room or a new safe. Be aware of our experience though. The Residence is lovely, but lock up your money.

Just in case I’ll have a stop again in Johannesburg this hotel will be my choice for sure!|It’s full of charme , elegance and sophistication. The staff is great, high attentions to customers needs. Dinner and breakfast were excellent , oysters and champagne at breakfast it explains a lot!|We also had a great massage at the Spa. The therapist Pauline was lovely .|Very appreciated also the late check in due to our evening flight

The perfection of The Residence is hard to articulate, but simply put, it is worth visiting Johannesburg just to stay there! We were there for several nights in July and were traveling with our teenage daughter. First, whoever is responsible for decorating this exquisite hotel deserves special recognition - they did not miss a thing! Without question, it is one of the most beautifully put together places I have ever stayed and at age 53, and fairly well-traveled, that is a statement. This is the perfect place for anyone who wants to receive a first class experience - be prepared to be surrounded by the warmth of Persian rugs, wooden antiques, amazing foliage, and moreover, a very dedicated team of professionals, who are there to service any need. Knowing people are often nervous traveling to Johannesburg, it is also noteworthy to share that we felt incredibly safe at the property, and the hotel adhered to several protocols to ensure the property was secure at all times. Bottom line, I will never stay anywhere else when visiting Johannesburg! Thank you to all of you that made our stay so special!
