Upon entering the establishment, you are greeted with friendly faces - as if to welcome you home. The menu is just expansive enough - for good reason. I went here for dinner and lunch and am excited to tell you about my experience. Last night, for dinner, my partner and I consumed the beet salad and burrata. It truly blew my mind with the delicacy of each dish. Every flavor balanced perfectly among each other even when we combined the dishes in the end. The chicken can only be defined as a perfect execution, and the meatloaf made me feel as if I was in nanas kitchen. The lemon tart with lavender scented whipped cream is something everyone should try in their life - especially with their house made cafe ice cream. For lunch - we'll I'm still here. In fact I might stay here for quite some time. At the moment, I just consumed one of the most delicious tacos I've had thus far in my life - a tandoori chicken taco with cucumber and mint and jalapeño with tahini yogurt sauce in a tortilla. I'm waiting on the corn and shrimp chowder as I can still taste the delicate Caesar dressing from the baby Romaine Caesar that lay before me just minutes ago. This isn't a restaurant. This is my new home

Atmosphere is excellent-very cool open-air ceiling hangings make for a spectacular first impression. Living wall plus many other plants, beautiful, soothing water feature in center of courtyard. Once ceiling is covered, the lighting is poor. Impossible to read the menu or see the food you’re eating. I ordered the roasted beet salad which was spectacular. Both beautiful presentation and delicious. The grilled pork chop looked massive & was also beautifully presented but turned out to be 40-50% fat. Trying to cut & eat a pork chop in the dark made for a very unpleasant experience. Service began very well but ended poorly. With so many wonderful restaurants to choose from, I’m not sure I would bother to return. If I I were to return, I would consider lunch or a very early dinner & choose a different entree.

If I could give 10 stars, I would. The atmosphere is incredible with its retro throwback vibe and decor, paying homage to the 80s and 90s era of music with its vinal record clad walls and art-deco boom boxes. The DJ at this time was playing a jazz fashion mashup, which was perfect for this setting. Oh, you want to hear about the food? Well, all I can say is that the cuisine is top notch and surpasses all expectations. This dimly light dining experience was definitely a gift from the culinary gods. Read no further than this review. You will not be disappointed one bit. The flavor and fare are second to none. Indulge until your hearts content.

Google
Impeccable all around. The attention to detail at this lovely restaurant & space, is superb. We enjoyed every sip, every bite, every decoration & every interaction. This was our best meal in SMA. The Restaurant will not disappoint!

Google
Excellent, perfectly cooked meal in a beautiful courtyard setting. It’s high-end and good for a special dinner. Service is great and staff is very friendly. The pork chops are fantastic as are the cocktails. Go hungry and leave happy.

Google
Great place. Burger night we tried, we’re from California and saw in and out burger and had to try it, burger was good but nothing like in and out. Salads were super good and desserts were great, pretty cool atmosphere. Prices were good.

Google
Love this bar. Had a really great DJ and cool records up, food was great, and Service was on point. Pricey, but the same prices all over. San Miguel would definitely recommend. Really enjoyed the crème brûlée and The date. Cake with ginger ice cream for a dessert.

Every dish was truly impressive. We had the duck pate, Cesar salad, octopus, sea bass (standout), chicken, duck, and shrimp.

Yelp
Fantastic restaurant in SMA! This place truly lives up to the buzz. The ambiance is impressive as soon as you step inside. We visited for lunch on a Saturday. Their guava cocktail was absolutely delicious. We ordered the edamame, beet salad, burger, and roasted chicken breast. The beet salad was excellent with its mix of textures and flavors, while the chicken was perfectly cooked. The burger was just okay. Service was a little slow, and the prices were on the higher side, but overall, it was a great experience.

Madeline S.

Yelp
11/10 amazing ambiance. Absolutely beautiful restaurant, and very cool bar. Was a little disappointed that the menu was mostly burgers. The sea bass and scallops we saw online were not available, but they had at least 8 different burgers. We did order the pulpo, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower soup, and tuna dishes which were all very excellent. Actually, the cauliflower and lemongrass soup was incredible and one of the most unique and delicious cold soups I have ever had. Drinks were very sweet and kind of weak? I felt the cocktails could be way better. Overall, great and special little restaurant with something for everyone.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in San Miguel. I usually prefer lunch when not as crowded. It is a beautiful restaurant with many choices

Sabrina M.

Yelp
Beautiful ambiance, amazing food and killer DJ! A group of us met up for dinner and drinks , the customer service was excellent. While visiting San Miguel we have been to over 18 restaurants, this is by far the best food! Thank you to amazing staff!

Yelp
The Restaurant, a highly touted fine dining-ish spot put a lot of mysterious smiles on my face: The first came when I stopped by to make reservations, as recommended, and found the place both open and empty. The night of my reservation I was one of only 3 parties in the place the entire time I was there. The second mysterious smile came shortly after I was seated. The waiter approached bearing an enormous wooden menu that he then propped up on the empty chair at my table. Try not chuckling over that image. The menu was all over the place but not in a bad way. Many items sounded good (and were) but they just didn't go together. You'll understand when I tell you my party of 2 ordered Vietnamese Spring Rolls as a shared starter then two entrees, "Chicken Curry" and "Pasta with Lemon & Prawns". I was going to share the delicate, exquisitely lemon pasta but one bite of the very good Indian curry told me that neither dish would benefit from being shared. The Restaurant had been described to me as a "splurge" but the prices were comically reasonable. That pasta which would easily run $30+USD at home was about $13US. There's some rumors that Anthony Bourdain either dined here and liked it or knew the chef and liked him or his food. I tried deep-diving and could find nothing to confirm either rumor but I think that story has brought the place a certain cachet. The Restaurant was a bit of an enigma but happily, one which served quite good entrees. I'd be happy to return.

Yelp
The best meal with the best service during our entire trip to SMA. The Restaurant was fantastic. Make reservations as they get busy! We were seated right away in the beautiful main dining room. The retractable roof gave us perfect levels of light throughout dinner. The decor is gorgeous! The service was great and we never felt rushed. Their servers are well trained. Food: Appetizers were amazing. My beet salad with goat cheese was WOW! Delicious! My husband had the cheese plate appetizer and it was huge and amazing. So many cheeses but his favorite part was the honey. Our main entrees were dream worthy. My salmon with Moroccan barbecue sauce on vegetable couscous was perfect. I absolutely recommend it. The pork chop with potatoes and swiss chard was perfectly prepared and the perfect mix of savory and a little sweet. We LOVE desserts but we were so satisfied with our meals we didn't require dessert. All of this for under $100 USD. Super happy with this place. We will recommend it to everyone we know who travel to SMA. Our favorite meal of the trip!

Susan K.

Yelp
Excellent food, location, decor and service. The food is very American, and done well. I was deciding between pork chop and braised short ribs. So happy I got the recommended ribs but mostly because the pork portion looked very large and too much for me! My husband was craving pasta after traveling for so long. He was very happy with his choice as well. Looked like a lot of American ex-pats there enjoying their evening.

Rob B.

Yelp
Aloha, The Restaurant is amazing - for being Halloween night and extremely busy - luckily we had a private room as we're really loud! We had 30 of us that night, lol a bunch of crazy Hawaiians dressed from a baseball team with a human piñata to a dozen witches - fun! I had the beets salad and risotto. Both good. I would definitely return. Great mixed drinks too. Enjoy!

Lauren N.

Yelp
Our group of 6 was able to get a table for lunch here as there were plenty of open tables, but we heard that dinner is much harder to come by. The outdoor courtyard area is incredibly beautiful, as is most restaurants in San Miguel. The wait staff was very attentive with quick service and beautifully presented dishes. Of the dishes we all ordered, I recall the following being standouts: -Salmon with dill (can't remember the name): salmon was cooked well and the combination of flavors was quite unique -Tuna tartare -Ribeye purely for the value, it was a very large portion that was easily shared by 2-3 people. The mushrooms were also surprisingly delicious. -Beet salad Recommend stopping by here if you're passing through SMA!

Loren C.

Yelp
Had a late lunch with 5 other friends. We shared quite a few dishes, they were all extremely well prepared and beautifully presented. Cost for all the food was ~ $75 pp incl tip-Exceptional

Yelp
What a great experience. Don't know how they find and/or train their staff, but every hostess, waiter and support person was more charming, helpful and handsome than the next. We went on "hamburger Thursday" night, and my hamburgosa de Pollo (Grilled Chicken Burger) might just have been the best I've ever had. Husband loved his Blue Cheese Burger as well. We both needed a knife and fork to eat them - so big and packed with great ingredients. Place was hopping, but very organised - like a broadway production. Everything moved with precision. Beto was wonderful. We'll be back soon!

Julie H.

Yelp
The restaurant is an outdoor oasis, lots of greenery, sun and has great service. When I arrived, the hostess showed me to the table but when I looked at their menu...it was burger night! This was unexpected and initially a let down because I really wanted to order food from the regular menu. My son who lives for burgers was thrilled! The waiter was awesome and asked the kitchen if they were able to take requests from the regular menu, which they could but it was limited to only a few items (none that I wanted). I ended up ordering one of the burgers and OMG, they were phenomenal! Not only that...the appetizers and desserts were also really good! They even gave us cookies at the end that my kids loved.

Mark L.

Yelp
We had dinner there last night and both the food and service were exceptional. Our waiter was polite and attentive. I had the braised short ribs and my date had the filet. The short ribs were fantastic. My date's steak was OK but he asked for it to be well done, so obviously that didn't do it justice. We also shared a kale and brussels sprout salad that was very good. We each had a dessert that we enjoyed as well. I live in San Miguel and dine restaurants all the time. I'm typically not impressed with the service but this experience was exceptional.

Yelp
We went on the famous Burger Night and were not disappointed. The food, service, and atmosphere were amazing!

Noble R.

Yelp
Excellent top notch restaurant with amazing atmosphere and background music. Beto is awesome

Amber E.

Yelp
We had an amazing dinner here on our last night in San Miguel with a group of 26 of us. The setting is absolutely beautiful; love the fountain filled with red rose petals, and we were in the back private room, with gorgoeous frescos on the ceiling and beautiful chandeliers. Service was impeccable, and the food and cocktails were all delicious. We ordered family style, so got to try a little bit of everything -- tuna ceviche, beef carpaccio, an incredible shredded brussel sprout salad (one of our favorites), sliced beef, short rib, chicken (another favorite), duck and pork. And for dessert an amazing caramel ice cream "sundae," chocolate flourless cake and apple tart. We also had two red wines and two white wines, all from Valle de Guadalupe, which were wonderful. I especially liked the 2019 Nebbiolo from Bodegas Henri Lurton - have been to Valle numerous times, but never heard of this winery before, near one of our favorites, Lechuza.

David G.

Yelp
Had a spectacular meal here with great service and some of the best prepared salmon I've had (and I'm from Seattle, the land of salmon). The pork chop was also excellent. Our waiter was warm attentive, as well as humorous, and the decor was festive (Dia de los Muertos). Highly recommended!

Mo E.

Yelp
On my second visit to San Miguel I stopped here for lunch. I didn't have any reservations and at 2pm on Saturday there were plenty of tables to choose from. Great place and I think the decoration is special for Halloween . I had the Salmon with curry which was wonderful. I would definitely come back.

Sandie B.

Yelp
The ambiance is lovely here with its fountain chock full of rose petals, and giant wall of greens interspersed with candles. We expected to love it, but the experience was uneven. Cocktails - got the Sandia Margarita and it was very sweet and kind of just tasted like an agua Fresca. Not great. The regular margarita was very one note, and that note was "tart" Appetizers - the Brussels Sprouts and Kale Salad was AMAZING. Don't miss this. The Burrata and Butternut Squash was nice, but not anything I'd crave again Entree - Got the chicken served over polenta. It's a generous portion, definitely enough to split. It was very rich and pretty good, but the sauce totally overwhelmed the flavors of the roasted tomatoes and Kalamata olives. Service - not particularly friendly or attentive

Michael H.

Yelp
We read many good reviews, and also met some locals who said this place would be super. We were not misinformed. We loved it. We started with a beef carpaccio appetizer which was delicious. There are also good cocktails and even a pretty nice wine list with some wines by the glass. For the entrée I had Cavatelli pasta with spicy sausage. It was perfectly good. My wife had the risotto with mushrooms and she liked it a lot. Good service. Nice atmosphere. Also, we were really pleased that the check was in the reasonable range.

Yelp
THE RESTAURANT, housed in one of San Miguel's most elegantly colonial settings at Sollano 16, opened in February 2008 featuring Chef Donnie Masterton's world-class cuisine. It is located just steps away from the main square of San Miguel de Allende, the prettiest and most restored/written-about Colonial city in all of Mexico. Offering a full bar, it serves lunch and dinner five days a week. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-restaurant-san-miguel-de-allende?select=aJLWwt031voA0678zNhUAg https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-restaurant-san-miguel-de-allende?select=DzFJYBY3S_VPPQcm42TiOg Serving global comfort food, The Restaurant's menu reflects the changing seasons, focusing on the simplicity of fine ingredients. Yelp
The ambiance--especially before they close the ceiling panels--is lovely. The food was inconsistent. Brussels sprout and kale salad was superb. Burrata salad was good, but not great (uneven seasoning). The chicken was good, but again, not great. Its flavor was a little one note. The drinks were also disappointing. They tasted weak and one-dimensional (even a Cadillac margarita!). The staff is friendly but here again I was disappointed. I expected a special experience, a warmth and attentiveness that just wasn't there. After all the hype, this was one of my least favorite dining experiences in SMA.

Teather S.

Yelp
Gorgeous setting and food that tops it. Beautifully presented balanced rich but healthy. Wonderful service truly a standout in a place that is full of lovely dining options

Paula M.

Yelp
Highly recommended! First time with Family. Terrific food, people and place. Expensive but worth it.

Benjamin L.

Yelp
Had lunch today at this amazing restaurant and everything was superb. First of all, it is a beautiful, spacious, mostly outdoor restaurant with stunning plantings. The food was beautifully prepared and the produce in particular was exceptional. An heirloom tomato and burrata salad was given a Mexican street corn twist. Crab cakes were excellent as was the tortilla soup and house cured smoked salmon.

Layla L.

Yelp
This place is beautiful! If you're here with your SO definitely make it a date night. You need a reservation or you'll end up at the bar, as I did. The bar is not where you wanna be, the outdoor dining room is so romantic. Service- I was alone so I was ignored. Kinda frustrating Food- brussels and kale salad was good because it was drenched in parm cheese, I mean who wouldn't love that?! Also had the egg plant, which was good but the actual eggplant was so thin I think it was really just all breading... I wasn't hungry enough to order anything else.

Darlene Y.

Yelp
Such a beautiful restaurant, friendly staff, and amazing food! This is definitely one of the more pricier restaurants in SM but it's so worth it. Highly recommend the TOMATO & BURRATA SALAD, BEEF CARPACCIO, GRILLED OCTOPUS, and GRILLED 12 oz RIB EYE with DUCK FAT. ENJOY!

Bernadette R.

Yelp
We have visited this restaurant on 2 different occasions while in San Miguel and it did not disappoint. Food, ambiance and service were exceptional.

Bella V.

Yelp
We loved this restaurant. They have delicious food, drinks, service from Beto and ambiance!

Jennifer R.

Yelp
The short: I found this spot on Yelp and it absolutely did not disappoint. We had such an amazing meal and dined al fresco next to the fountain & gorgeous live plant wall. The food and service were perfect. The longer: we shared a great bottle of Mexican red wine, and enjoyed a fresh Caesar salad and the octopus to start. I ordered a really delicious piece of whitefish, and my partner got the short rib. We were both very happy with our meals... and even happier with the chocolate-y dessert we ordered! The servers were all very sweet. The restaurant is beautiful and we genuinely enjoyed our meal here. I highly recommend!

Christine H.

Yelp
Service was terrible. Waiter rushed us and was rude and impatient. Food was overpriced and only just so so. I would not recommend this restaurant. There are far better places in this town.

Edmund C.

Yelp
First the restaurant is beautiful inside. The bad part no real view Luke others that have rooftop terrace. The food is very good, it's on the expensive side. I had the pork chop and it was one of best I have ever had. The nice thing fir some may consider it bad is they are not in a rush nor do you feel you are being rushed out so they can just turn tables. If you like desserts they have a separate kitchen where you can watch them make them. We have been there multiple times and have always been happy!!

Matthew G.

Yelp
Ate there in January with 5 others, total of 6. The following day, 3 of us had gastric issues. The restaurant is loud, very loud, conversation was impossible, had to yell. service was DEPLORABLE. seriously bad. the food was mediocre, at best. prices outrageously high. I will NEVER go back and I told the person who put the dinner together not to ever include me. if I want rude waiters, I can go to denny's.

Bob M.

Yelp
We dined here twice. Once for Thursday Burger night and another for there regular dinner menu. Great experience all around. Delicious food and Wonderful service. Highly recommend!

Edward C.

Yelp
This experience was highly disappointing. We made a reservation for 8:30 pm tonight for a party of 6. We got there an hour early and checked in with the host. We told the host that we would hang out at the bar till our reservation time. When we got there, there were several tables open. At 8:25, I checked in with the host again. She told me, "give me a minute." It was evident that our table had been given away. Our party moved to the front and waited to be seated. At 8:35, their manager came to talk to us, apologizing for the wait. We weren't sat till 9:00 pm. Very unfortunate as we were excited to try this place out.

Scott S.

Yelp
The setting is lovely all decked out for day of the dead. But after hearing so many wonderful things perhaps my expectations were too high, that said the food was barely mediocre, octopus appetizer was almost un chewable they forgot to bring one of octopus appetizers we ordered maybe that was a good thing but it was a reflection of horrible overall service the wild mushroom risotto was bland the sea bass just okay Overall a big disappointment and no e cures because it was not very busy perhaps they are relying on their reputation but if more discerning diners have our experience they are in for trouble

Salvador P.

Yelp
This one is a must, best dinner we have had in SDA. The beet salad and Brussels sprout salads were great. The entres were delicious as well. If you are in SDA, this one is a must.

Rae S.

Yelp
We had a beautiful seat right by the fountain filled with red rose petals. We sat at a circular table which was really lovely for six to all enjoy each others company. The cocktails were very good I had a mule, sun tequila. This place had the best octopus in my opinion compared with Quince and La Doña. The octopus appetizer is a MUST! We actually each ordered an entree and then passed it to the left so I was able to try the risotto, pasta, lamb, pork, and scallops. Highly recommend for a nice meal, great ambiance, and drinks.

Morgan L.

Yelp
Everything I had here was amazing. One of my favorite places that I had during my time in San Miguel. The raviolis were delicious as was the pork chop. Definitely would go here again on my next trip. Oh and who can forget the absolutely gorgeous decor!

Emily M.

Yelp
Another great choice in San Miguel, I wish I would have asked to sit in the main area. We sat n the back room and it was ok but ambiance was better n the other room. Food was so fresh and it was fun watching the baker make the bread while we were there.

Camille R.

Yelp
First, let me say the ambiance was everything! We did not have reservations and were seated immediately after the temperature check and distribution of hand sanitizer. It was clear the restaurant was going according to guidelines with limited capacity and seating distance. There was another group that was seated but only within twelve feet of our table. The receptionist greeted us with a smile and escorted us to a table. There was a fountain in the middle of the restaurant that was filled with red rose petals, very delightful and pretty. The restaurant was sort of an indoor-outdoor establishment. We were inside but there was no roof. The restaurant had a private room and back area with a full bar and DJ. The music played fitted our delight as it was mostly R&B...not sure if they were playing for us but it was fitting for our first night in San Miguel. The menu must change option as it was burger night and there was clearly a lot of variety including vegan options. There was a nice wine list and curated cocktails. Our food was delivered with a reasonable amount of time (not your typical vacation time) hot and fresh. Our bills were delivered individually and accurately. What you would think would be the price for a burger and glass of wine in an exquisite town and restaurant ...$50US ...no how about only $22US. A great deal, beautiful ambiance, great service, and awesome food in a lovely town! If you are in the area do not hesitate to stop here for lunch or dinner.

Joan M.

Yelp
If you are ever lucky enough to visit the town of San Miguel de Allende you need to visit The Restaurant. Beyond fabulous in every way. The food is outstanding with true authentic Mexican flair. The menu extensive and of course the pricing is very favorable. The service impeccable. The decor here fits in with the San Miguel hip and cool vibe. A courtyard with an open kitchen and greenery everywhere. They have lots of space heaters for those chilly nights. It's truly breathtaking. An ideal spot for a romantic dinner or just getting together with friends and family. So if you are in town drop in. You will be glad you did.

Danielle F.

Yelp
This was by far the most chefy restaurant we went to in San Miguel. Beautiful courtyard with fine dining. Really good sauce work and very creative. Lots of outdoor space and a fountain in the center. When they say not good for kids, they mean it. There is literally nothing on this menu for kids to eat. Nothing. The desserts were the best we had in San Miguel. Service was good. Highly recommend!

Alessandro L.

Yelp
Best food in town. Cosy atmosphere. Best DJ. Shoutout to Bruno! Great cocktails. Burger night is a must...

Regina L.

Yelp
The Mexican Cabernet-Zinfandel and Pear Martini were delicious. We started with the Beef Carpaccio and Cheese assortment - carpaccio was amazing! For entrees we tried the braised short ribs and sea bass. The sea bass was the winner and quite delicious. Beautiful restaurant but the service definitely sets it at the top of our list for San Miguel.

William H S.

Yelp
A lovely evening dining. The enclosed courtyard was wonderful dining under the stars.

Jeff D.

Yelp
Went for burger night.... Service, atmosphere and food were great! We ordered two completely different hamburgers, both were as good as the description and perfectly cooked (we ordered medium) It's a need to go back and try the rest of the menu kind of place!

Isobella C.

Yelp
Great everything / food service , atmosphere. Best sushi in town. Also music on certain nights
