14 Places to Go Glamping in Texas

"The Retreat on the Hill is a “glampominium” site with safari tents, teepees, and luxury tents, all with private decks. The Stardome Suite is about 100 feet over Horseshoe Bay, offering stunning views from the clear-domed suite with a private deck, fire pit, private restroom, and indoor and outdoor showers. The Bird’s Nest is a bit more primitive option, with an open concept that’s not completely waterproof. Plus, it has “The Egg,” which keeps you dry during rain. Other options include a luxurious suite made from a shipping container, and Sunset Cliff House, an A-frame oasis with a 15-foot cathedral ceiling, clear side walls, a glass-sided tub, and a stargazing balcony." - Travel + Leisure Editors

I really enjoyed the retreat! Greg was so helpful from booking questions to the time we left. Customer service was great! The rooms were just as expected from the website. Sunset Cliff house is where I stayed, oh I got the best pictures!!! Thank you so much for an awesome stay!!!

This was our first stay at this glamping place. We stayed in the Bird's Nest which has 3 levels and a great view towards the lake. The main bed is in a clear plastic walled area which can be air conditioned or heated. All other areas are outside so it can get hot during the summer. We had a great time. There's an upper deck after you climb a ladder and open a hatch which has a couch and fire pit. The lower level has a suspended double bed. It's like a little grotto/cave with Tiki Torches. Very nice sitting area. Our private bathroom is not attached but was very nice and had A/C. I'm used to tent camping so this was a great setup. The heat of summer may keep some from checking it out, but it is a nice place and private. It is down a series of rock steps and then wooden steps so be aware of that if you have any mobility issues. There's a mini fridge that was supplied with snacks and a K cup coffee maker and microwave. We will visit again.

Amazing experience! From booking to checkout, the Retreat on the Hill was by far the best experience we’ve had in a long time. Accommodations were clean and well thought out. We had everything we needed and more to relax and enjoy our stay. The views were stunning! Greg was a personable and attentive host. Every detail in the dome, from snacks to lighting to Alex to the soaking tub were above par. We had planned to leave to go eat and listen to live music, but ended up not wanting to leave the dome once we got there. The views! I can’t say enough about how much we enjoyed lounging on the deck taking them in. We were blessed with a shooting star on our visit! Couldn’t have asked for anything more. The only negative we had was the proximity to other accommodations, but they weren’t a detriment as the dome was sound proof and there was no lines of direct sight from us to any other unit. I can’t wait to plan another trip to The Retreat in the Hill and try another amazing unit! Highly recommend.

I went there with my wife for some much needed rest and relaxation. When we arrived the room they gave us seemed to be under construction but we were not aware. Well Greg was super accommodating, he changed us to an even more incredible room, was very helpful, and he saved the trip. The room we received instead was EXACTLY what we were expecting and more. I've already told a bunch of friends and family about the place and we will be coming back again. I'd give this place 6 stars if I could.

Had an amazing time here just to getaway from busy life. Came here during Father’s Day weekend with my wife and son. We stayed in the Curves, The container suite, and to my surprise it was very roomy and spacious, had everything we needed. Location was also amazing since there were a few restaurants that’s within walking distance, checked out the sunset dining at Bay View and ended the night at Fresh Air Park where my son can run around and play, all within walking distance from the retreat. Greg was an amazing host, literally greeted us when we pulled up and showed us our room. Overall amazing place with an amazing views especially during the evening sunset.

We had a great stay in the Bird’s Nest with our dog! It was very spacious and had so many places to relax and unwind in. The AC helped very much for our July stay and we even got to watch the lighting and rain storm all night it was a beautiful view. And the Fresh Air Park down the hill is a great place to hangout and get some delicious food and drink, the Mystic BBQ was our favorite. Hope to be back again!

I don’t have enough good words to describe this place. The host Greg- AMAZING! So friendly, knowledgeable and attentive! There’s a park within walking distance that had movie night, a concert and a DJ! There were snow cones in the park , fresh juice BBQ etc. the view from the resort - amazing! Both restaurants near were good! Coffee shop near ! I could go on and on! I’ll definitely be back !!!!!

Im going to try to name the pros and cons here and give it a honest review. No pictures provided Pros-Management was great, they communicated with all needed info on the trip. They send over info for the fresh park, and activities. The location is great, love it that up the hill and had great views. It give a great camping vibe. You relax on the outdoor patio, it has great shades to enjoy the outdoor. The overnight stay is my first experience like this, it was exciting.Only a 10 minute drive to marble falls for more stuff to do.The sunset view is nice, and at night even better. The bathroom are average, and has a great ac in it. Food in the area is great, and the afresh park has good drinking menu. The seafood restaurant at front is very good. Cons- So some issue, I rented th bay view Cliff. It’s a lot smaller than I thought. Anyone around 6’ might have a issue trying to get around the bed and hit your head on the canvas. There also mold on the tent, where it touches the steel frame And bottom of the tent.Im sure this can be handled with weekly cleaning. The jacuzzi tub was not working, it was just a tub on our stay. The canvas has some issue, some parts are torn, were bugs and wasps can get in. If that was kept up, there won’t be a bug issue inside.Once it’s 4-5 pm, it’s best to leave the room, due to sun blasting through that plastic window, gets very hot. Last thing ac had a blockage issue to drain out the condensation, but after a day or cleared up.bathroom felt a bit tight on space Overall I believe this is not a 4.9 review on its website. Maybe the other rooms tend to offer a better experience, but this based on the bay view Cliff house.I feel this is more like a 3 star, will it stop me from coming back it’s though to say. For the price i paid it might of been a bit too much. Like is said I’m mixed here, both have good and bad things like any other place. But I Will say give it a shot, stay for 2 night and see if you like it. I might be back, but it won’t be soon.

Yelp
The property itself is just gorgeous & there are so many suites to choose from! We had the opportunity to stay in the Curves suite this past weekend & it was just delightful. The suite does not have a kitchen but is equipped with a few small kitchen appliances. The bathroom is an open concept which is very interesting; it runs through the center of the suite & includes the toilet, sink AND shower. The suite was ready to handle some chilly weather with heated blankets for guests along with robes! Keep in mind there are a few dinner options within walking distance; The Bay View Restaurant & Bar is the closest. The Retreat actually houses a walkway to this restaurant which is so convenient! There are additional bathrooms on the property along with sinks and hand sanitizer. The only drawback here is that there aren't any barricades of any kind to keep guests safe from falling into the hill country. I would advise anyone wanting to stay here to leave the kiddos at home. Sonia was so friendly & made sure we had everything we needed during our stay. I see great things in the future for Retreat on The Hill.

Yelp
DO NOT STAY HERE -- please read -- and heed -- other reviews of the Stardome! The concept is sweet: sleep in a clear dome under the west Texas stars. And frankly we had gotten past the fact that the dome itself is so dingy you cannot actually see the stars. But what made us check out of our room within hours of checking in was that our room was literally COVERED in tiny bugs when we returned from dinner at the bottom of the hill. And while it should have been a red flag that the room had a bug zapper in it in the first place, the zapper zapped for 20 minutes straight as we tried to decide what to do -- texting and calling the on-site manager (as instructed at check-in) about our horrible situation at 7:45pm with not a single reply. Then after all this, they still kept half our money, when we had to pack up and drive at night, and pay a last-minute rate at a different -- but bug-free! -- hotel. I am a frequent traveler and adventurer and have never had a worse experience or worse customer service than this. Don't be fooled by the concept -- the execution is terrible.

Yelp
Wow! That's the best word to describe the feeling and ambience here. This little getaway is incredible. The views are amazing and the service is amazing. I cannot wait to come back, the bay view cliff house was the best spot to relax. The bathtub in the room was also incredible. Best place to stay in the area!

Yelp
Never ever come to this place, I paid more than $300 just for one night for the BIRDS NEST and it's nothing the same as the promoted on the website

Yelp
I'm all for paying good money for luxury accommodations, but this place was so disappointing for the prices they charge. We actually discussed leaving for another hotel down the road and just losing the money. When we arrived later than expected, there was no where to park. Our room was very difficult and confusing to find. (This was confirmed the next day when a woman in a robe was at our door trying to open it because she thought it was her room). The only seating option was a very uncomfortable couch that was not made for 6'1" adult male. No curtains on the bedroom window to block out the sun, only a few command strips to maybe hang a sheet. The bathroom was the worst part and a very poor design decision. The whole restroom was the shower so everything was soaking wet after a shower. No dry place to get dressed! Our room also flooded overnight from a storm. We woke up to all of our belongings soaked, the rugs soaked, and decided to cut our trip short and leave. We noticed water damage on the walls which would make mold a serious concern. After we explained the situation, they "generously" offered us 50% off our next trip. Like hey, pay us half as much next time for the same lousy experience. No thank you. They did finally give us a discount off our rate. Very disappointing experience.

Yelp
Great Experience! The room was so clean, quiet and it was what we needed. Took a bff trip and as moms with young kids, we really enjoyed our full day off. Recommend this place and I will be back with my husband.
