The Richard (Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Lark Hotels operates contemporary-style boutique hotels all over the Northeast, each one carefully tailored to its location — so it’s only sensible that in the upscale enclave of Edgartown, on Martha’s Vineyard, its hotels would take on an almost regal air. The Richard, the youngest of the three Larks in town, stands right on Main Street, but offers an almost aristocratic measure of seclusion. Built in the 19th century as a ship’s captain’s residence, it was later converted into an inn, and under Lark’s care it’s been transformed into a chic and contemporary 16-room boutique hotel." - Tablet Hotels

Have you ever asked for a picture with your hotel host so that you could remember your wonderful time with them? Yeah, me neither. That is, until we stayed here, and we experienced the kind, warm, and world-class hospitality of Ellen. When we arrived, she immediately made us feel welcomed. She ensured that we had a good plan for our visit (she has lived there for many years, and knows everything). But there were so many little things that were above and beyond. A kind note in our room. The way that she frequently made sure we had everything we needed (even when we weren’t at the hotel). The way that she got excited with us about our plans. The fact that she meticulously tested recipes for the breakfast service so that everything was the best that it could be (she even made an experimental jam for all of us one morning). And the way that she just made everything better with her presence. Ellen is a Martha’s Vineyard treasure and should be protected at all cost! Oh yeah, and the hotel was wonderful, it’s perfectly situated to avoid the downtown, but is only a (very) short walk away from everything, and the courtyard was a wonderful place to relax.

The breakfast is amazing, not to mention the afternoon warm & truly delicious cookies. The flowers, sitting area & fire are priceless. The location is amazing - we originally wanted to be closer to the water, but I’m so glad we chose the Richard, because it is very handy for the buses & also shopping, restaurants, etc. The staff is wonderful, helpful, warm but professional. We love this place so much.

We had a memorable stay at the Richard. Reception staff Kate and Angela have all the expert recommendations for restaurants, shops and activities. And a calm and friendly manager, Ms. Ellen who has all the answers to whatever concern you have. I for one needed 1 extra luggage ( no shop selling one in MV) for all my shopping haul! She never hesitated to offer her own. ||Kudos to Ms. Ellen's staff for making our stay a memorable one.

I had such a wonderful stay at The Richard in Edgartown! From the moment I arrived, the staff’s friendliness made me feel so welcome. The inn has a cozy, inviting atmosphere that feels both stylish and comfortable. One of my favorite touches was the fresh baked goods offered throughout the day—the sweet potato scones were absolutely amazing! The location is also perfect—right in downtown Edgartown with shops and restaurants just steps away, and less than a three-minute walk to the shuttle that takes you directly to Oak Bluffs. It made exploring the island so easy and stress-free. If you’re looking for a warm, charming place to stay with thoughtful details and a truly convenient location, The Richard is a fantastic choice. I can’t wait to return!

Staff went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. Room was ready early. Chocolate chip cookies were the best! Loved having them to enjoy with our nightly tea by the fire pit. Perfect location to take the bus from church street to the other parts of the island.

Ellen and Kate are so friendly and accommodating. They greet you every morning like it’s a B & B. Breakfast was delicious every morning as well. They made a cake towel for my husband’s birthday too!! We really enjoyed our time at the Richard.

Such a cute boutique hotel! Kate was very friendly, helpful and accommodating. I got an early check-in, and was welcomed to hang out in their courtyard post checkout. P.S.: Their homemade cookies are the best!

Yelp
This very elegant boutique hotel in Edgartown offers breakfast and extremely upscale rooms! Cable TV and Netflix, Hulu are available too. Many places to sit and lounge throughout the property. My room (15) was awesome with small fridge and Many windows! Location is walkable to all that Edgartown offers. The fresh cookies upon arrival were delicious as was the breakfast in the morning! Local eggs and fresh baked croissants and bread. The front desk staff (Mia) was also the server for breakfast. I would definitely recommend this hotel although it is pretty pricey!! That was the only part of my stay that hurt a bit. But it's worth it!

Yelp
An okay spot to stay, but wouldn't stay here again. It was super clean and a prime location to Edgartown happenings, we just weren't super impressed with the room/amenities. We got a king room and for the price were hoping it'd be a bit more spacious. There was no countertop space in the bathroom or in the shower to hold additional products and the mini fridge was small - my champagne BARELY fit! There wasn't an iron in the room which was a sin. The complimentary breakfast was a joke - they give you hard boil eggs and crostinis lol. Definitely better options in the area for a comparable price. The grounds are pretty and the staff was super nice, but personally I'd look elsewhere if I were you and will do so when we inevitably return to MV.

Yelp
Wow! We recently stayed at The Richard while getting married! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with an incredible staff! We couldn't have asked for more. The breakfast was always fresh and the cookies spoiled us. Yari is absolutely irreplaceable! She had answers for all our questions and wonderful suggestions. We felt at home! We will definitely come see you again!

Yelp
We LOVED our stay at the Richard, and would 100% return. The staff was so welcoming and friendly. With this being our first time on the island, we appreciated the warmth and "homey" feel they created. What really made our stay special was the delightful breakfast and treats they provided every day. Those cookies are trouble! The only thing that we would change would have been our room selection. Ours was right at the entrance so we heard every time the door would open, people were walking on the porch, or going up the stairs. Thankfully, most of our stay was spent around town so it didn't affect us much. The comfortable beds made going to sleep a breeze!

Yelp
My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and we brought our toddler along with us. The Richard is walking distance to many restaurants and retail stores. Whenever we returned to the hotel after exploring the island our daughter would always say, "we are home!", which shows the homey feeling the Richard gives. Julie was friendly and always helpful. She provided a map of the vineyard, with must-do/see activities and places. Julie and the staff also made breakfast daily and she even left a crown and cookies as a surprise for our daughter. What a great experience!

Yelp
My husband and I checked in after hours. The hotel emailed specific instructions so that we could enter the hotel on our own. Our room was new, beautifully decorated and the temperature was perfect! Coffee and tea are available around the clock. In the mornings there is a lovely , bright dining area. There are tapas style foods that are delicious. Egg and sausage, zucchini bread, yogurt parfait, oatmeal and fruit cups are all on the menu. There were also a homemade pineapple muffin square. I wasn't supposed to have that but couldn't resist. The online rental of the room, the check in, breakfasts were all top notch. The hotel is located right on Main Street near plenty of shopping and restaurants. It is not an accessible building so make sure to book an accessible room if you come. There are two steps down to the breakfast dining room. This is a great place. I will likely come back again and happily stay here.

Yelp
We stayed for a long weekend earlier this month, and enjoyed our stay very much. The location is convenient to downtown Edgartown, with dining and shopping only a few blocks away. The property is very well cared for, and provided us a great space to unwind. The concierges Hope and Allie were both extremely helpful, and were on hand to answer questions or help with reservations. We have stayed at other Lark properties in the past, and have very good experiences. I would highly recommend booking at The Richard if one is looking to stay in Edgartown.

Yelp
What a wonderful place to stay?! Was attracted to the contemporary design pictured on the website - which is a contrast to the popular Vineyard aesthetic. We were even more delighted with the hospitality and operation. Julie and her team could not have been more welcoming, helpful and attentive. Thanks for a wonderful getaway...we miss it already!

Yelp
We had the most amazing time at this beautiful hotel!! Brand new, clean, and accommodating. The service was above and beyond. Julie was so helpful when setting us up with our trips, dinners, and activities. I couldn't imagine staying anywhere else while on the vineyard!
