Our room was large but the carpets were filthy, covered in stains. There was mould in the wardrobe and alongside the bed on the wall. We were kept awake all night by party goers in the corridor constantly in and out of their room banging and shouting. I was with my 73 year old mum. I rang reception all night but noone answered my calls. I did ask at reception if we could change rooms because our room looked nothing like the pictures. I was told by a very rude, abrupt woman that my room was bigger than average and that I was lucky to have it. I gave up because we had to be at the theatre and she was in no way prepared to change our room. We were the only 2 people eating in the restaurant and it was like a thoroughfare with staff constantly in and out walking past our table dragging boxes and banging and shouting. If we had known that the hotel hosted huge Christmas parties into the early hours we would not have stayed there. The restaurant is decorated nicely but our experience wasn't good. The food was nice. We were kept awake all night by people outside our room in and out smoking all night , shouting and banging. Worst hotel experience ever. I do have photos on an old phone somewhere. We would not recommend this hotel.

Please do not waste your money staying here. This hotel was a disaster from start to finish. We arrived to find nobody minding the reception area, leaving us hanging around waiting. There is a strong smell of smoke throughout the entire hotel, very unpleasant. The room was disgusting, the carpets were all stained, there were drips down the walls. There was litter from previous guests (cigarette paper and empty sugar satchets) on our room floor. The double room is really two single beds pushed together which is disappointing. Our bathroom door did not close, the taps on the sink and shower are very loose, you have to be careful whilst using them. The temperature of the hotel was ridiculous, worst nights sleep I’ve experienced, as the air con barely works. I did not feel particularly safe in this hotel either. We were also charged twice for our room. The staff were not great either, upon checking out we were left waiting for receptionists to finish a conversation among themselves before serving us. We also had 2 large bags and shopping bags so we wanted to use the hotel lift which was another hassle as the staff were using the one life that was in use to move things around in the hotel leaving us paying guests to take the stairs with heavy luggage. I am very shocked at the ratings of this hotel as I feel generous even giving it 1 star, the hygiene and cleanliness is absolutely disgusting. I will never be back and would advise anyone looking into this hotel to AVOID.

I am so disappointed to have to post just one star and it's because of the staff who were very friendly and this is the first ever negative review I've given. Our room was very spacious but wasn't very clean so I gave everything a clean but no matter how much dettol spray I bought it couldn't get rid of the stench of smoke. It appeared to me and a few other guests that the hotel had homeless people staying there which I think is very kind of them but when I have to rush my children through the reception area because it is full of people off their faces! I didn't feel safe at all and I feel that they should let you know beforehand that this is happening as it's not exactly cheap. I strongly recommend that you avoid this hotel it's not suitable for families at all. I want to point out that the staff were great but the hotel was shocking!

We stayed a weekend and have been back since. Originally we were disappointed, as the room we booked smelled of cigarette smoke. Considering neither of us smoke, we found this unbearable. The lady at reception didn't offer to change our room and didn't seem phased, so we packed our bags intent on leaving the next day. The gentleman checking us out dealt with the situation much better. Offered us free breakfast while he changed our room. Not only did we receive an upgrade, but a complimentary bottle of prosecco and handwritten apology. Far more than what we expected. A lovely touch. Nu Nu from the ( hope that's spelled right) restaurant also made our stay enjoyable! Lovely service from both him and Bianca, great conversation and made time for everyone even though he seemed flat out! Breakfast was brilliant. We look forward to our stays there now, as the service is exceptional

I stayed in two lovely rooms in this gorgeous hotel in Feb 2020. I was very looked after by the helpful Caroline and no request was a problem for them to sort out. The building and interior are grand and atmospheric. We stayed in an apartment which was very spacious and had a little balcony. This could have slept 6 people or more so was great value. Had a fridge and cooker too. The beds were very comfortable with great pillows, duvets and mattress toppers. A couple of things needed sorting in our apartment - the plumbing of the shower for a bit better drainage and the kettle needs replacing. The location of the hotel is great being very close to the main streets in Liverpool and the museums. Highly recommend

We were lucky enough to have lunch at this gorgeous listed building, converted into a hotel/restaurant. As soon as you walk in, there is a lovely relaxed atmosphere and the sumptuous black and white decor made me feel like I had stepped back in time. The restaurant is amazing. The staff were very welcoming and looked after us during our meal. I am a definite foodie and I was not disappointed, each course just got better and better and was presented on the plate like a work of art! I highly recommend the duck which just melted in the mouth but the highlight for me was the little chocolate pot dessert which was just pure decadence! Can’t wait for my next visit.

Since June 2021 I have stayed in 7 hotels/guesthouses across England and so I am well placed to compare the facilities and service we have experienced in this post-lockdown period. Three of these were booked through Secret Escapes and The Richmond was the first of these. I went with a friend for a 3 night stay to explore Liverpool. We had a decent deal so booked a double room each even though there was no single discount. First impressions were good as I had requested rooms near each other and we were actually the only 2 in a tiny corridor off of the main corridor. We found all the staff to be helpful and friendly. Breakfast was fine if a little chaotic – but this has been common to most of the hotels as they struggle with new staff after an exodus of the experienced staff. My room was comfortable and the bed was big. I am always concerned that the room should be well ventilated and not too hot. The air conditioning didn’t seem to be working but there were two big fans provided in the room and you could open the window. My friend reported that she found it difficult to sleep on the first night because of street noise but I had no issues with this. There is a night porter to let you in if you are out late – which you are bound to be if you explore the Cavern Quarter, and the hotel is well placed for this as everything is a walk away. My only problem was that the safe had been left locked so I couldn’t use it. I reported this to reception on the first day and was told a maintenance operative would see to it but nothing happened. I reported it again on the second day but with the same result so gave up after that. Liverpool itself is great.

Yelp
Great hotel! This is actually probably one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at in Europe. My only downside is the fact that you could tell the building used to be used for something else and it shows in the rooms. The way the rooms are designed and painted kinda looks dingy in some areas, at least mine did. That said, I was very satisfied with the size of them. I also have to thank the hotel for helping me ace my Spanish exam, I had to take a spanish exam via skype to graduate from Glasgow uni and their wifi came in clutch. I just wish breakfast was included for everyone. Especially given my mum is a platinum member of BW

Yelp
This is a fantastically located hotel - The World Museum is 5 minutes walk away, one of the best beer pubs is 2 minutes away (Ship & Mitre) and 5 minutes from main city centre. Beware that there is major construction taking place beside the hotel (student accommodation i think). Our view was of a building site which made my heart sink when we arrived. We were awoken at 7am with lots of hammering and drilling. Really unimpressed and disappointed that the hotel had not tried to place us in a room away from the construction. It was a Sunday night so assumed it wasn't too busy to do this. Luckily I had ear plugs as we didn't have the energy to phone and argue with the staff to get moved. The room was very spacious but to the point it felt a bit empty and souless. Gaping spaces in the room just felt unwelcoming. Plain decor with the exception of the bright carpet and bed head. Comfy bed and non-feather pillows which we prefer. Don't try checking in early as we discovered they turnaround the rooms very late. I arrived back at my room around 5.30 and the cleaning service was only then leaving. Very unusual. The air con was good as we stayed during unseasonably warm weather so nice to sleep in coolness. In terms of service, the staff seemed a bit distracted and didn't seem particularly helpful. My favourite part of the hotel is the spa which is located in another building opposite - very hot jacuzzi, with a cool small pool, and a warm small pool, with sauna, and steamroom. The sparkly lights were not on when we visited which i was disappointed with as the pictures on the website make it look really pretty. Also, they don't seem to have many padlocks for their lockers. My husband and i had to share a locker which was inconvenient being in separate changing rooms. It was a reasonable hotel but i wouldn't rush back and would certainly avoid until construction of student accommodation is finished!

Yelp
Fairly ok, but had several mishaps: room key card stopped working, breakfast card lost by reception so did not have the hot breakfast promised, housekeeping and maintenance simply would not leave us alone, decor seemed rather tacky, TV remote very frustrating to use... One of the few redeeming qualities was some staff members, including a very helpful bar staff member and a woman who got us some toast, yogurt, fruit, tea, etc for breakfast when reception messed up the hot breakfast. Despite this, we won't be staying again.
