This restaurant was incredible. It overlooked the crater and had such a great atmosphere. The servers were attentive and nice and the food was absolutely incredible. The price was fair and it was overall great experience. Afterwards we went for a 2-mile hike on the path around the rim which was also very neat.

Fine dining at The Rim. Unique dining experience on the rim of the Kilauea volcano crater! Gorgeous view! Menu has creative fresh food choices! Scrumptious entrees. We had Tempura Pink Snapper with Japanese slaw with Wontons and rice. Drinks were delicious with generous pours. Haupia cheesecake with Ube great way to top off the meal! Attentive and friendly wait staff. Cannot guarantee but we were lucky enough to see Kīlauea begin erupting as the sun was setting and we were completing our meal!

The Rim was amazing! Scotty made everything so delightful from the start. We got the gluten-free barbecue pizza and devoured the whole thing—it was that good! Super flavorful and really filling. The views are absolutely breathtaking and make the whole experience even better. We went on a Thursday around noon in mid-May and didn’t need a reservation—it was peaceful and quiet. Highly recommend for the food, service, and stunning atmosphere.

Overall the food was good. I highly recommend the guava flow cocktail. The views from the restaurant were amazing and we caught the sunset. The poke sauce was too salty for me, and the chicken was too dry. The fish was good though.

The buildingwas beautiful. The view very nice. Other than that it sucked. Plane and simple. Sad, really. Ordered appetizer of edamame (awesome) and the house soup(fish soup). The fish in the soup was overcooked. I didn't eat it. My son had the t- bone steak with broccolini and potato wedges. The steak was not hot or seasoned. Cooked perfect yet no seasoning. I think they left it sitting somewhere. The broccolini was hard... like raw and slightly rolled in hot butter. It's hard as heck. It was hidden under the steak..lol the potato wedges... again, it is under seasoned and hard. I decided to take it home to show my son that I could fix it for breakfast tomorrow. I ordered the fish special with jasmine rice and a seaweed salad. Fish was overcooked, and the rice was mushy. I told our server, Jay(He was nice. Yet I think he knew the food today was going to be bad) that I did not want a box for my food cause I could not fix overcooked fish. He was nice enough to take it off my bill. I was actually embarrassed that I took my son here. I hyped it up so much. It's such a shame. My son did his first ever Google review about his food. It disappeared already from here. **Manager had reached out** as of 8am

We didn't have high expectations for the food or service (based on some reviews we read) and had planned to come mostly for a view! We lucked out and the volcano was erupting that day and we had seats right by the window. I made a reservation about a week out. Our server was quite good and was attentive. We were seated at our reservation time The view and atmosphere was amazing. The food was alright (chicken was a bit too salty, nothing "wowed" us for the price point, the edamame was my favourite part of the meal and very good). The view was the highlight! Getting to sit and relax, watch the sunset and the lava was an amazing experience.

Make a dinner reservation in advance of your stay! Amazing dinner, drinks and desserts! Salted caramel ice cream, died and gone to Heaven!!! My steak was perfect, blended sweet potatoes.... perfectly seasoned!!! Had steak and potatoes cold for breakfast the next morning!!!

Google
We had a great table next to a window to view the volcano. The buffet was extensive with hot food. The omelet bar was a nice surprise. All the wait staff was very friendly.

Yelp
Whether you're spending the day exploring Volcanoes National Park or just coming to see latest Kīlauea eruption, the restaurant at Volcano House is the perfect pit stop to refuel and relax. I've come during busy season and when it's been slow - both times the staff have been gracious and the food surprisingly good for a tourist attraction. I say that because it sure doesn't have to bank on the quality of the dishes to draw diners - not with Halema'uma'u crater steaming or even erupting in the distance! There are a couple of dining rooms that flank a sitting room with chairs so guests can enjoy Mother Nature's show if they're waiting for a table or just want to see the crater from a comfortable vantage point. They're open for breakfast starting at 7 am, lunch is fairly short from 11 am-2:30 pm, then dinner doesn't start till 5 pm (reservations are required for dinner). During the peak season, parking spots are hard to come by but you can also park at the visitor center and walk over.

Yelp
We got an incredible view right by the window, and we noted that the staff dress code seemed to be hawaiian shirts, which was cute. Service was a bit strained, they seem to have a slight staffing issue. The waiter was friendly and had recommendations. Food itself wasn't as good as the view. The loaded fries tasted a bit odd (i wasn't a fan of the sauce used), but the naked fries themselves were fine. The macadamia encrusted fish was definitely acceptable, but for the price tag and portion size I was feeling a bit let down.

Yelp
Only a vegan perspective Just tofu dish which I didn't try but instead did plain market salad. Got a window seat. Non vegans in party enjoyed their burger, pizza, salsa with chicken

Yelp
Wow!! You can't beat the view of this restaurant!!! Please note there are 2 restaurants that serve the same menu. Expect to wait for a seat and a possible longer wait if you request a window table. We decided to order 3 dishes and share them. Chris was our server and he was super helpful and friendly. He confirmed our choices as shareable and a good selection. We were very happy with the meal and the view was great! The sun can get warm on the tables near the window in the late afternoon. We were very pleased with our experience.

Yelp
We had the pleasure of dining at The Rim Restaurant for breakfast, and it was truly an exceptional experience from start to finish. The food was simply outstanding. We participated in their buffet. I ordered two of their omelets, and it was hands down one of the best I've ever had. Perfectly cooked, fluffy, and packed with fresh, flavorful ingredients. The portion size was generous, leaving us satisfied without feeling overly full. Their coffee was rich and robust, a perfect complement to the meal. You can tell they put thought and care into every dish. The service was just as remarkable as the food. The staff was warm, welcoming, and attentive without being intrusive. From the moment we walked in, we felt genuinely valued as guests. They ensured our coffee cups were always full and checked in just enough to make sure we had everything we needed. The ambiance is something special and worth mentioning. With its stunning view of the crater, The Rim Restaurant offers an unforgettable setting that elevates the dining experience. Sitting by the large windows, we were able to take in the gorgeous, panoramic views while enjoying our meal. It was serene and breathtaking, making for an atmosphere that's both relaxing and awe-inspiring. Whether you're looking for a hearty breakfast to start your day or a memorable spot to soak in the beauty of the area, The Rim Restaurant is a must-visit. Incredible food, fantastic service, and a view that will stay with you long after you leave--it truly deserves every one of its five stars!

Yelp
This place is an absolute nightmare. I came here to try and get dinner while me and my girlfriend and we are lost for words on the level of service they provide here - if you can even call it that. We interacted with 4 people there- the small blonde hostess girl that looks like a little boy, the greasy bartender with the white ponytail who looks like Gandolph if he was a drunk lifelong bartender, one of several non descript small Hawaiian ladies, and the somehow even more greasy manager with a handful of hair gel in looking like a dollar store extra from Jersey Shore. All four of these individuals were blatantly rude to us, refusing to offer even the slightest bit of assistance. We did nothing that would warrant this treatment, we just came to have a dinner and left before we were even sat, lost for words that people who specialize in 'hospitality' could be so unpleasant. The only way this place offers hospitality is based on what I could see and other reviews I've read, their dishes look like hospital food. Not to mention that the ambiance is on par with a city hall building or a poorly maintained ski lodge built in the 70s. DONT EVEN TRY IT. Not worth it

Yelp
I reserved for this restaurant over a month ago. I stated that we were celebrating our anniversary and requested a table with a nice view. Very happy that we were seated a window seating. We watched a beautiful sunset. By the way, no celebratory complimentary dessert. The seared ahi appetizer was good. But the portion was very small. 4 very thin pieces. I wouldn't order this one again. I ordered the Seared Kona Kampachi. I devoured all of this. It was soo good. I wish the lobster was bigger but for the price and what is included, this is totally worth it. I would order this again! My partner had the stuffed chicken. I had a bite of this. It was very yummy! The cheese stuffed and all the flavors was great. The garlic mashed potatoes complimented the dish well. The cheese pizza was huge and yummy. Sorry, no photo. Our 5 yr old ate 3 huge slices and we had 5 big slices left over that we took out. Very yummy. We didn't order any dessert. Very happy with the taste of the food and the bice ambience. Definitely happy that we dined here after checking out some volcano sights. There is a penny smash machine in the same building where this restaurant is located.

Yelp
A decent meal with a beautiful view of the crater (weather permitting) but you'll pay extra for that. We dined on an evening when the fog rolled in to obscure most of our view, but I can imagine a spectacular sight when clear. I started with the clam chowder that was full of clams and potatos, and chunky how I like it. Wasn't too hungry so just had the lobster crab cakes appetizer for my entree. Both cakes were chock full of lobster and crab meat, complemented by two sauces. My wife had the generous sized house salad and added fish, which she really enjoyed. My daughter had a Caesar salad and tomato bisque soup. Both were good but I felt like it was missing just a little more dressing or a little more seasoning. Service was okay though he kinda disappeared once dinner was served and didn't show up again till we got the bill. They had live music on the night we dined but the guy was singing way too loud or the speakers were turned up too high. Felt like he was blaring right next to our table. Again, good but not great meal that was more expensive than it needed to be.

Yelp
Dining at the Rim Restaurant in the Volcano House was an unforgettable experience! If you're visiting the Big Island, I would definitely recommend stopping by this hotel when visiting the national park. Located just after the entrance to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, this restaurant not only offers stunning views but also a fantastic menu. We started with the Ahi Poke Stack as an appetizer, and it was tasty! The poke was fresh and flavorful, perfectly layered with avocado and accompanied by crispy wonton chips. While it might not be the most memorable poke, it was definitely a solid and refreshing option to start off our meal. They do also provide complimentary bread and herbed butter. The rolls were warm and we asked for a second helping of the butter because it was so tasty! For the main course, we enjoyed the Hawaiian Ranchers 14oz Ribeye. Cooked to perfection, it was incredibly tender and juicy, with a delicious seasoning that enhanced the natural flavors of the meat. The accompanying sides complemented the steak wonderfully. I love that they include sautéed mushrooms, love this pairing with the steak, mashed potatoes, and spinach. We also tried the Fresh Local Catch, which was a beautifully prepared kampachi. The fish was light and flaky, cooked just right, and served with a side of tempura and rice. The tempura added a nice crunch that paired perfectly with the delicate flavor of the kampachi. The ambiance of the restaurant is warm and inviting, with attentive staff who made our dining experience even more enjoyable. Our waiter gladly spent time talking with us and giving us great recommendations for our visit! The views of the surrounding park were beautiful, making our meal a special and unique experience.

Yelp
Went for lunch, menu was just ok - the dinner options sounded much tastier. They only take reservations for evening time so may have to wait if going in the afternoon. Service was decent but staff very chatty and could hear the cooks cursing as we walked up from the parking lot through the back door they had open. Not the best first impression.

Yelp
Prices high, means select items only, but just can't beat the view. You can go to the lodge and not eat at the rim and still see the view. But this is how we wanted to ring in the new year. If not a Veteran you pay for park entry. The food was very nice, fast yet polite service. This place is super busy and packed be prepared to wait even for your reservation. Give plenty aloha to the staff running around serving everyone.

Yelp
Hands down one of the top scenic spots eating. Of course, the restaurant itself doesn't have the oompfh of some of the better restaurants but it had a cabin-style vibe and, dare I mention, you get served in front of a volcano. For most, the 'volcano' isn't one you build with chicken wire and paper mache, it looks more like a quarry/mine.

Lisa M.

Yelp
Small classic menu, prepared well however some flavor combinations/profiles are unusual and may not appeal to everyone. Service is nice but uneven, for instance our server must've been in training since he didn't know the accompaniments on the entrees (and didn't bother to go check). We had to ask for bread several times, seeing other tables getting theirs. He barely checked on us during the entire meal. But since we stayed and the Volcano House, this was very convenient.

Yelp
The Rim has it all. Incredible views of the volcano rim with steam vents and occasional lava flows are the highlight. The service is friendly and efficient. And the food was great! We asked for a window table and we got a great one. Mandy, our server, was kind and greeted us with a smile. Our order came out quickly, but we were not rushed. I ordered the Volcano House Burger made with a half pound of Hawaiian beef. The burger is topped with generous amounts locally sourced lettuce, tomato and onion. The bun is a Hawaiian type bread bun, toasted and served with an avocado aioli. The burger was cooked to a perfect medium rare, as requested. Crispy, hot fries accompanied the burger, I loved they were not over salted. It was a perfect lunch. The views of the volcano are breathtaking. The volcano seems to keep changing. The dining room is dated and the carpet stained. The restroom doors also need attention. The restroom itself is updated and nice. I'm not docking them for this as they have a fabulous view and service hundreds daily in a remote park. They have a full service bar as well. Other entrees looked great. The fried fish looked incredible. They offer carry out. Parking is limited, but adjacent. I'd definitely return. I loved this visit.

Yelp
Good food, great view, high prices, mediocre service. We enjoyed everything we ordered: seared Kona kampachi, lamb osso bucco, volcano house pasta with chicken & sorbet trio for dessert. They had a live singer on guitar which was a nice touch. Located at the volcano house (hotel) in the volcano national park. There's limited parking but you can easily walk from the visitor center. They open at 5p, I made reservations for 5:30p, we arrived early but they wouldn't seat us because our table wasn't ready even though no one was there and there were plenty of empty tables. The hostess wanted to seat us in a corner with no view & I requested a different table. She said she couldn't move us even though there were plenty of tables open. She eventually let us move but it was strange how strict she was with check-in and seating when it was obviously not crowded. Unfortunately there was no lava flow, make sure to check online for lava conditions before deciding to book.

Yelp
Good meal at this place today. I had the burger with feta. It was pretty good. Obviously the best thing about the restaurant is the view of the crater. Worth it.

Yelp
Wow!!! The service was amazing. The food was amazing. The gluten free pizza was spectacular and the edamame was delicious!! Wasn't a super fan of the lychee martini but the Mai tai was amazing. Visit here! The view can't be beat.

Yelp
Food was tasty, portions were good, service was alittle slow but it was Christmas Eve so understandable, ambiance of dining was good wished that they had live music or a piano player but we did enjoy the volcano activity.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our dinner at The Rim. If you're seated by the window, the view of Kilauea adds to the ambience. Our appetizers were the Ahi Poke Stack, Lobster Crab Cake, and the Blackened Ahi Sashimi. The Blackened Ahi Sashimi was seared just right. My Kona Kampachi entree was delicious and moist, and the lobster was tender. Other entrees that our table had were lamb Osso Bucco and rib eye and snow crabs and were good, but the steak was slightly chewy. The avocado was forgotten on the Market Greens salad. Portions were healthy and we were quite full. We managed to order some desserts to share though. Our server was Landon and he was helpful and attentive. When we first were seated, it was early so there wasn't much of a crowd. It did become quite busy but Landon still managed to check on us. Unlike many other National Parks, Volcanoes National Park is close to restaurants outside its borders; however, The Rim is a good choice. I'd definitely dine there again.

Yelp
This restaurant seemed promising at first. The view was INCREDIBLE and the gift shops were very fun. I waited close to 8 minutes to be seated with multiple staff walking by and looking at me and the line behind me without even helping. We timed it, it took 18 minutes for our server to get to our table and even acknowledge us. My dad got his beer after the food arrived and after asking twice. The food was alright, nothing to write home about. It was fresh and the fries were a tad cold, like they were sitting for some time. I would skip the restaurant and honestly just pack a lunch to eat by the volcano next time.

Yelp
This is a really cool restaurant located on Volcano National Park, HI and overlooks the huge caldera of the volcano. Steam vents can be seen and it gives you a wide view while enjoying a really better than average dinner. The menu was full with a number of fish selections as well as beef and chicken too. I thought the prices were reasonable considering its on the Big Island of Hawaii. The cocktails were exceptional. The Mai Tai and the martini's were very good. The restaurant is attached to the hotel run by the NPS so there was plenty of parking. The history of the restaurant and the view are by far hugely interesting and majestic considering you're seated on top of a massive volcano. Definitely worth a stop by for drinks and a meal if you are famished after some great hiking and touring around Volcano NP.
google avatar

Liz L.

Yelp
The view is five star. Such a remarkable place to just sit and ponder what's before you. Four stars for the drinks- we had the lava flow, old fashioned and mojito. The mojito left a lot to be desired. Food was three stars- fish and chips lacked any macadamia nut or coconut flavor. Son enjoyed the rim burger.
google avatar

Yelp
So disappointed, 4 out of 8 of our main meals were over cooked and super dry. We previously diner here and loved the atmosphere, food, and service. This time around the atmosphere only good thing was the live local music and the appetizers. I rarely complain about food or service because I've worked in the industry for a long time, however, this experience was far from pleasant.

Yelp
Tomato bisque appetizer and the Volcano House burger was so yummy especially after hiking down and up to the crater! Definitely satisfying and excellent service. Beautiful views of the crater from the restaurant as well, and our food came out fast and hot. Great experience and will definitely come back!

Ayush N.

Yelp
The waiter was friendly and accommodating to our complicated requests. We asked as starters: French fries and the tomato bisque with grilled cheese. And they were pretty good. For entrees we got Volcano House Pasta with an addition of fish on the side. We also got Five Cheese Stuffed Ravioli which is very rich. It has a unique ambiance: if one gets the right table and the volcano is erupting they can see the eruption while dining.

Yelp
Came here as we were visiting the Volcanic National Park! The service was wonderful. We had Legin as our server and he was so friendly. The atmosphere of the restaurant is great. We came for dinner but there are viewing windows lining the restaurant to ensure you get a great view of the crater. We also had a live singer who was singing Hawaiian genre music which made it that more relaxing while we dined. Dishes we ate included: 5 Cheese Ravioli - My partner ordered this and really enjoyed it. There was also a substantial amount of veggies underneath which gave it that balance of cheesey and "healthy" if you get my drift. Rib Eye- I substituted my veggies for extra mashed potatoes for an extra charge (and man I didn't need to do that). The plate came with a decent amount of potatoes as is, and THEN they delivered a whole bow of extra. The potatoes were creamy with just the right amount of butter, cream and fresh potatoes. The steak was flavorful and has some crispy onions on top which just added even more crunch to the meal. It was extremely delicious. We didn't get dessert (solely because we were stuffed) but the choices looked AMAZING! I would highly recommend this if you are looking for a nice dinner when visiting the park.

Yelp
Had a 7:30 reservation & we were hungry so we went after our night hike to eruption viewing area hoping to see more but you can't see anything through the bright lighting off the windows. Food- Asian bbq prawns appetizer was 4 star. Prawns were big, tasty sweet sauce but a little heavy handed on it. 2-3 star for seafood rigatoni as it smelled/tasted a bit "fishy" & fish was overcooked. Drink- good deal for glass of Daou white wines $10-13 No more complimentary bread. We asked, our server checked & "they ran out". Service was not slow as many previous reviews have stated. We were sat within 10 min, greeted within another 10 min, food did not take long to arrive. They were hustling, the hostess was cleaning tables & gave us our bill as well as seating people. A plus was a guitar player/singer on Sat night. Not a horrible experience just not great food for the price or view.

Yelp
Great service, nice staff. My fish was cooked to perfection. The paring of vegetables and sauces was not. I would go there for the view.

Yelp
We were able to book a reservation for a late dinner (8:30pm). It had been pouring rain the entire day so we were happy to be in a warm restaurant. Took a little time for us to get seated in spite of the reservation, but not a ridiculously long wait. In the meantime, we got a view of the volcano night glow. It was not super bright due to the weather but incredibly, was still visible! As for dinner, I ordered the Caesar salad with tofu and it was pretty good. My friends enjoyed their orders of the seafood pasta dish, and tomato soup and grilled cheese. We split a bottle of rose and decided to opt out of dessert, even though the haupia cheesecake sounded tempting. Upon closing our tab, our server had comped us a slice of the haupia cheesecake! So nice! Overall, The Rim at Volcanoes though pricey, was a pleasant dining experience.

Yelp
Food is just INCREDIBLE! Service is EXCELLENT! Ambiance is BREATHTAKING! 01/25/23- I took my daughter to lunch at Volcano House Rim Restaurant at Hawaii Volcano National Park. We enjoy ourself and the meal.

Jackson D.

Yelp
My first review and I have to let everyone know before they decide to head to the Rim. I wanted to give it a go despite some of the scary reviews in the past but I should have heeded the warning. I don't know if it was the crab cakes, soup of the day or the horrible kampachi that had caused diarrhea and pain for the whole next day. The kampachi was obviously frozen being fully cooked on the outside, raw in middle and impossible to cut with any knife. The lobster on top was cooked so strangely with being incredibly overdone in spots and completely raw in others. The best part of the meal was the bread. The cocktails were ridiculously sweet and my fiancé didn't even finish half. She also spent a large amount of time on the toilet. Do yourself a favor avoid this at all costs and get even better views hiking the trail. So expensive for the worst meal I have had in a long time. 0/5

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch after 6 mile hike in the park. Went in with low expectations based on prior reviews but was pleasantly surprised. After waiting for quite a while for hostess to seat the parties ahead, we got a table near the window facing the crater which was nice. Waitress came by rather quickly to get our order. Got the poke stack and pineapple flatbread and partner got the house burger. Flatbread was tasty with crispy crust, flavorful pineapple, bacon. Poke stack was tasty, a bit heavy on the sauce but was good. Burger was typical but nice touch with feta cheese and balsamic glaze/sauce. Fries also good. Nice selection of Kona draft beers. Maybe we were just starving but it was a hearty meal that hit the spot if you're spent after a long hot hike and want some grub quickly and nearby.

Yelp
In Volcano house, Hawaii Island in the volcano national park. The Rim Restaurant, service is great and food is great. We did the breakfast buffet and dinner, service to food was great! Made our two night stay memorable. Staying here was to say we stayed at a historical place, well worth it! At least once for now, definitely would come back.

Yelp
My husband made a reservation at the Rim Restaurant just so we could have a nice dinner in the park for my son's 6th birthday ON the day. It wasn't crowded at all, but all the "better" tables by the windows were taken, and we were seated in front of a window that had two trees blocking our view. Nice. That turned out to be okay because it was so cloudy and rainy that day, that there was nothing to see except pitch black. Not the restaurant's fault. We ordered and I told the server that it was my son's birther. She said it was also someone else's birthday at another table. Fun! So I got the ribeye, and my husband got the T-Bone. Mine was okay, but I don't know why they had to smash the steak over the mashed potatoes and the veggies which kind of ruined them for me. The onion strings on top were very greasy so I moved them over to the side. My husband's steak I think was better than mine. My son's cheese pizza was whatever, but then we wanted to order dessert and she said, "We don't have any cake." It was like 7 pm and we were probably one of the first seatings, how do you not have cake? She said they had chocolate cake, but they ran out. Well, then we asked what she had because it was his birthday and she listed some cheesecake, some ice cream, and something else and my son didn't want those things because they had some Hawaiian type flavors, we thought we could get him something and put a candle (I even brought a candle with me), so we decided not to get dessert. It was really disappointing because we were so looking forward to nice a dinner and thought the restaurant would have some type of cake, but nope. Then they brought out something for the other table and sang happy birthday. That was kind of sad because my son was looking over there thinking it was for him! Omg, I felt so bad for him. I think for a nice restaurant like that, they could've just given him a small scoop of ice cream or something, stuck a candle in it, and sang happy birthday! Anyway, we were so disappointed with the lack of good view (weather not their fault - tree blocking window where we were seated is their fault), and just totally snubbing us on a birthday treat for like a $200 meal was just not fun. Service wasn't that good because she never came back to check up on us until it was nice for dessert and for some reason, they didn't clear the plates as we went along - all our plates were just stacked or pushed to the side. So weird.

Yelp
Aloha, when visiting the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park it's a must to visit the Volcano House. The Rim restaurant serves up an extremely grand dinner food and views. Large servings so go hungry. And if you're lucky, they'll dim the lights so you can see the glow from the Kilauea caldera, nice. We lucked out to have live Hawaiian music and Clarisse danced hula, nice. A very romantic setting or family fun. Enjoy!

Yelp
Came here on vacation for my 5 year anniversary with my boyfriend honestly was disappointed drinks were good I guess, but food was very mediocre if not bad :(. The food lacked flavor and steak was a bad cut for high prices I would say skip and save your money trying something different.

Yelp
The restaurant views are great if you don't get seated next to an obstruction. Once you sit down they won't change your table, even if empty ones are available. "Overloading servers" and "we'd have to dress the table again" were the reasons we were given. You have to make a reservation which we did and after being asked if we would come early, we obliged. The people who came during our time got a phenomenal view. I thought this was extremely disappointing. That said, the server was great and super kind wanting to make our experience better after a rough start. The food is decent. The town doesn't have much to offer. The Caesar salad was fresh, the chicken on top was tender but lacked any flavour. Croutons were house made and delicious. The ravioli was "fine" according to my wife. The soups were good but not great. Everything is fresh just nothing spectacular. I would skip this place and come down during the sunset or sunrise for the views which are just as good without buying dinner. This place has lots of potential with better management.

Yelp
Let me tell you the scenic view is worth the trip alone! We unfortunately didn't get to see the Volcano active or any lava pools but the staff made it up with all their story telling and kindness/consideration. Jay our server was good but Allan our bartender went out of his way to create an amazing experience! He was so kind and knowledgeable about the Volcano and the history. Hawaiian culture is so rich and Allan captivated it. Jay even showed us some pictures of previous eruptions and I wish we could've experienced it! I really appreciate how Allan and Jay went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and learn more about the environment we were in. Also, Allan's cocktails were fantastic! We got the house mojitos, Mai tai, mule, and he even made me an "off the menu cocktail" that was basically a pineapple bourbon smash, 10/10! Food was also so great! Chef Jocelyn made sure to check on us to make sure everything was to our liking. She was also awesome! She actually had the same full name as my cousin so she was intrigued in meeting her. She was a chef there and for her to take time out of her high demand profile just shows that they are interested and care who comes into their restaurant. Overall experience I would rate it 10/10!

Yelp
I hate writing such a poor review but this place has such potential with a location like this but man did we just waste a meal in Hawaii and an hour and a half of our lives. Food reminds me of a nursing home, bland, overcooked. Out of everything. And so, so over priced for the quality of meals being presented. Had to ask for things multiple times. Lobster cakes were decent that was all. Not great, decent. Place also looks worn down. You felt bad for the waiter 1) holding too many tables for one person and 2) you kind of felt he knew the place is junk. Get out of the park and go somewhere else.

Yelp
The quality of the food does not justify the price. We had shrimp appetizer, minestrone soup & ribeye steak. All were poor!!! Tomato soup was good. Cannot recommend this restaurant!

Yelp
Excellent food, service, and ambience! Please reserve your visit and enjoy. We came for a dinner with our teen girl. We really enjoyed the NY strip, the ribeye, and lamb ossobuco. We also enjoyed the local singer who was great and made the atmosphere so special. The stakes were cooked to a perfection, and the ossobuco fell off the bone and was irrigated by a thick delicious sauce. Legin was our server and he was very professional and kind. In short, highly recommended.

Yelp
Came here after a long day of hiking and exploring the volcano. I didn't know that there was a hotel here so that's pretty cool. The food was awesome. I got the pork and the steak salad. Honesty, just stick with an entree when you come here. The drinks on the other hand, that blood merry is bomb. The bartender custom makes everything and she was extremely entertaining to watch. It's smaller than you think it would be. If you sit at a table, you have to go to the bar to get a drink. Luckily I sat at the bar, so I didn't have that problem. If you're touring the area here and you're not scared to spend a little coin, give this place a shot and try out the Bloody Mary

Yelp
Flew in from Honolulu to see Kilauea and decided to have dinner at the rim of Kilauea. We got there just in time to catch a glimpse of Kilauea's glow while we ate. We had the Volcano House Pasta and The Ranchers Ribeye. Both choices were excellent. However, I could not get enough of the pasta. It was so good it didn't need any meat. The steak was charbroiled. We closed the dinner off with a piece their cheesecake. It was enough for two. The scenery at night was stunning. Parking is in front of the hotel and a cross the street. Reservations are a MUST. I'm

Yelp
We saw the poor reviews but figured how bad could it be? I thought if anything the view would make up for the food. I was wrong about both. The food was NOT good. My steak was under-seasoned & very mediocre. My husband's seafood pasta had crab shells in it. View was meh, better off just going straight to the source at the overlook. Overall, I wouldn't come back nor do I recommend this place to friends.

Yelp
The view and location is convenient so that's probably why the food and service could be mediocre. Manager was great at checking in on tables but the checks probably needed to be done when they began dinner service. Politely asked to be relocated to a different table as we wanted a specific view, but totally understandable that they were unable to accommodate us. We appreciated the hostess's promptness in explaining that seating cannot be changed upon sitting down and finished it off by rolling her eyes. The waitstaff was great but the server was dismissive. You will need to ask for the former complimentary (?) bread basket. Server also explained that it's hard to get certain things, we're from Honolulu so it's a bit different? It appears that on outer islands it's difficult to obtain alcohol and supplies for food. You're paying for the exclusivity as they are the only show in the park, the views weren't great as it was cloudy and rainy so perhaps the dinner could've been at Volcano. We cannot recommend this for anybody in the near future as the service has gotten progressively worse. Great views!

Yelp
I came here for dinner and unfortunately didn't see the red glow. I was seated right by the window, so I had a good view at least. I really wanted the bone marrow for my appetizer, but they were out! I settled for the ahi poke appetizer, and it was pretty good. For my main course, I had the ribeye, and it was gigantic! It was also seasoned really well and cooked perfectly!! For dessert, I had the haupia cheesecake. It was ok. I really wished it had a more pronounced coconut flavor. It was really subtle, and the cheesecake was quite dense. While visiting the Volcanoes National Park, this is probably the best restaurant. The waiter was also very friendly.

Yelp
Food is ok, very overpriced, but amazing views and couldn't pick a better spot to hang out. One thing that really took a star away is that we booked so far in advance and they didn't seat us by the windows. Luckily there wasn't much to see so I didn't make a big stink of it, but really hard to justify the price when you don't even get the good seats when booking so far ahead :/

Yelp
Came here for lunch! The view was amazing. We had traditional Hawaiian food, along with wings and sashimi. Pretty good for it being in the park. Service was friendly and quick.
