A Stay with a View, But Value Questions Lingered Our recent stay certainly delivered on the promise of a breathtaking location. The mountain views from the hotel are truly unparalleled and provided a stunning backdrop to our trip. However, after experiencing all that the hotel has to offer, we found ourselves questioning the overall value for the price. While advertised amenities like the pool were present, the pool itself was quite compact, and the jacuzzi seemed to primarily circulate water rather than offer a relaxing experience. Our room also presented a few challenges; for instance, the room itself felt a bit worn. Getting around proved challenging. The hotel's proximity to attractions meant relying on the transit bus, which, unfortunately, was consistently overcrowded with no seating available during our trips. Walking to Banff downtown wasn't a practical alternative due to the lack of sidewalks, making pedestrian access unsafe. Service experience from the staff was mixed; some team members were genuinely friendly and helpful, while others were less engaging. Dining options within the hotel were convenient due to the remote location, but the restaurant prices felt quite steep, especially given the lack of alternative eateries nearby, and the menu itself had very limited options. In conclusion, while the incredible location is undeniably a major draw, we ultimately struggled to recommend without reservations, primarily due to the perceived value for money when considering the amenities, the condition of the room, the limited dining choices, and the logistical challenges of getting around.

We arrived in our room to see scaffolding obstructing our view from both windows. We mentioned this to the bellman and to the person who called to make sure our room was ok. We were told the workmen were there 10-6 but saw them at 930am. The caller suggested we close the curtains for more privacy. If this was communicated to us upon arrival we would have changed rooms, and if that was not possible we should have had our rate discounted as it was not worth $765/night. We came back after dinner at the Fairmont Banff springs to find drink coupons under our door which were too late to use. Upon checkout we mentioned all of this and the clerk sympathized and said the communication was lacking. She refunded the valet and resort fee which I assume she can do without authorization. Our coupons were not redeemed. We are Fairmont/Accor members and were returning to Banff after 20 years. We did not drive 6 hours to pay $765 to be told to keep our curtains closed. Super disappointing as this is not what we have come to expect from the Fairmont chain. Tonight we are staying at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge and are hoping for a better experience.

With a room on Floor 7 on the side of the building we had a beautiful view of the forest and mountains. With deer on the pathway below on both mornings. Breakfast was very good, though we did not have the buffet, but chose from the extensive menu. The Buttermilk pancakes were divine, enough for two. As was the Granola bowl. We had booked dinner on the first night and this was superb, though expensive. Suggest eating in Banff town and then having something from the Bar menu on an evening. The Charcuterie Share plate was very reasonable and beautifully presented. Wine was very expensive even when choosing local BC wine. All the staff were polite and accommodating. There are two free shuttle buses down into Banff and the hotel is walking distance of the Banff Gondola. Did not chance the pathway along the bottom of the hotel, as bears had been seen recently, though sadly did not see any. Did not have time to try the pool & spa & rain on both evenings spoilt the chance of sitting out on the Ground Floor area, but the views from the main bar and dining room worth it.

Our room cost $1091 per night, the room was dated, shower area very old, the shampoo/conditioner low quality, the bar didn't have any chardonnay (in fairness the bar manager did provide a solution), breakfast hostess not very welcoming but the staff was excellent . Aside from being dated, the hotel itself was fine the lobby nice, entertainment good - staff hit and miss but for the amount of money per night stay I would expect much more out of the customer service and quality of room. Regarding the location, it was out of town but the hotel did provide a shuttle and a bus pass for the length of our stay. If you like being in the midst of town this is not the hotel for you.

Iconic hotel, high on the mountain. The restaurants were excellent. The staff was helpful and friendly. The conierge even loaned us bear spray when she heard we were going hiking. Plus she recommended some trails in the area over by Mount Norquay, including where to park our rental car, etc. Our room had a balcony big enough to be called a patio. The view was spectacular! We tried out the hot tub/pool. Nice and quiet. Better than the Banff hot springs pool, which was crowded and not pleasant.

My stay at the Rimrock was incredible! The setting is stunning, the staff is very friendly, and the pools and terrace are perfect. Special thanks to Vincent at the concierge desk – he was an excellent guide for my trip and gave me great advice to make the most of my stay. During one of the activities he organized, we even got to see a grizzly bear – an unforgettable experience! I’m already looking forward to the hotel reopening after the renovations so I can return. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Rockies.

Rimrock Resort was fantastic! We stayed with a Road Scholar tour group and were very happy with the accommodations: beds were comfortable, there were plenty of pillows, the heating/air-conditioning was quiet, and we had a lovely view. The night stand had enough room for my CPAP equipment and the front desk provided distilled water when asked! A real plus because going into town to get some wasn't that easy.| The meals in the Primrose restaurant were delicious and the chef was great about taking care to honor my food restrictions. My biggest complaint was that the meals served to our group were too big! The breakfast buffet had an expansive selection of food and include items that people from a variety of cultures eat for breakfast. We didn’t always get the best service because they were quite full but overall the staff was friendly and helpful. | I did book a massage since it was a ‘resort’ but was disappointed and cannot really recommend their spa experience. On the other hand, the pool was great—big enough for lap swimming as well as children playing. We enjoyed the indoor hot spring experience and felt it was a better choice than sitting outside with a crowd of people at the hot springs across the street.

We stayed at Rimrock three nights to celebrate our honeymoon. We started the stay with over an hour late check in. We were given complimentary drink tickets for the delay. We did finally make it into the room after multiple trips back to the front desk. When we left shortly after check in for dinner, we noticed a tray with two champagne glasses and an empty ice bucket with a card outside our room. Nobody knocked on the door and I glanced at the card and it had our names on it. I quickly put it back down assuming it was a surprise for our honeymoon and that it would be delivered later. We came back from dinner that night and the tray was gone and we never received anything. We did later find a piece of cake in the fridge but no explanation or anything. The rooms could definitely use some updating. The lights flicker when you turn them on and the bathroom had stains on the tub and seemed unclean. We had left our robes in the room and when we returned later that day the cleaning staff had taken them and didn’t replace them. We were going to the spa for a massage later that day so we were disappointed we couldn’t use the robes when we needed them. Overall we expected a higher level of service for the price point this hotel is in. The location is nice and you are provided with complimentary bus tickets to get into town which is great but you can stay in places around Banff for a lot cheaper.

Yelp
Holy wow. What an absolutely gorgeous place! The views here are stunning. We came in late June, so the weather was perfect and it was a great escape from the 100 degree temperatures in the south. The hotel is an older hotel, but the views are worth it. Also, it's within walking distance to the gondola which I highly recommend. They also have shuttle service into town. The staff is incredible helpful. I also recommend using their shuttle to visit Moraine Lake and Lake Louise. It was a great experience. We had Archie as our driver and he was so fun! I'd definitely stay here again.

Yelp
This hotel offers a truly unique experience. The breathtaking view from the hotel room, showcasing the great expanse of nature and mountains, was truly remarkable. We took pleasure in gazing out through the window, immersing ourselves in the serene atmosphere. Our stay was relaxing, extending over a few nights. The indoor swimming pool provided an excellent recreational option, and the sauna contributed to a rejuvenating experience. Notably, the availability of floaties for kids added to the family-friendly amenities, enhancing our overall stay.

Yelp
Very nice old world hotel with amazing views of Mt. Rundle and chauffeur amenities, the guest Roam transit pass, concierge services, a cafe, three restaurants on the premises: the Primrose, the Larkspur, and Eden! The massage at the spa was phenomenal, especially after a long day of travel!! Situated at the top of the town of Banff and between Mt. Rundle and Sulphur Mountain, this property offers phenomenal vistas, as well as, a myriad of activities from e-biking, hiking, to excursions to Icefields Parkway, Johnston Canyon, the Via Ferrata, Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, and Takkakaw Falls, Emerald Lake, and Marble Canyon, or Sunshine Banff trails!! It's an older hotel under constant renovation but it does provide the old-world charm of Europe! The staff on hand are exceptionally friendly and well mannered... the fare offered at the cafe and at the Larkspur outstanding!! I came here on conference and absolutely recommend this place!!

Yelp
Visited for the Christmas holiday and I wasn't impressed with this hotel or Banff. The customer service here is very hit or miss. The front desk was very welcoming, the divas bar manager, the coffee shop staff, the bartender at the Larkspur Lounge, the Primrose staff, most of the valet staff as well with the exception of a bell desk associate named Eddie. His behavior towards selective guests was appalling for a "luxury" hotel. He showed prejudice towards female guests, was very racist towards brown people (non-Arabs) and had an overall horrible attitude when anyone asked for their car or just a simple suggestion relating to Banff who wasn't of French, Arab or British origin. Overall, I've seen better hospitality and accommodations in some of the smallest historic towns i.e. Pinehurst, North Carolina. Next Christmas I'll be spending my time at a more welcoming luxury hotel. In my opinion, Banff is overrated and for anyone who believes America is so racist, please visit here to experience true racism and anti-Americanism.

Yelp
I haven't been here for about a decade. It's the same as it was back then, and the same since it was opened. They have spent not a dime on this place. Came for brunch to check it out and see if they have improved anything. They screwed up our omelette orders three times, and we just gave up. The food and service were good otherwise. It was just really frustrating, but we got half off the bill at least.

Yelp
we stayed here during our first ever trip to Canada particularly coming to Banff the service was so quick the concierge is wonderful they recommend so many wonderful activities for you to do and basically help you to book stuff and set it up the front desk is nice and they always have answers to all your questions there's a pool in the spa on the third floor and that was really nice especially after a day of hiking it's just nice to soak for a while. The rooms were super clean and super nice views the beds were comfortable everything smelled really nice and we felt pampered for the price we paid. there is also bellmans and a valet and buses that will come to pick you up to take you to the town. it felt really nice to be able to just relax remotely rather than be in the hotels in town with all the hustle and bustle.

Yelp
I wanted to really love this place. Great location just a stones throw from town , great views , SO many amenities. We only stayed three nights and didn't get to explore but there's so much to do just inside the hotel itself. I loved that you can sit at the lobby and look out on the mountain and have servers roaming around if you wanted a cup of tea or a glass of wine. But every time we went back to the room it smelt really strongly of cigarettes. I thought maybe the previous people staying were smoking in there but it persisted, so it had to have been from one of the neighboring rooms. We called downstairs to let them know and their solution was to ask if we wanted someone to come spray air freshener ?? It was 10pm at night, why wouldn't you walk the 25m to the elevator and come check it out? It was so weird. There was also no water in the room which was weird too! There was a water fill up station all the way down by the garage though which was nice I guess. Long walk if you get thirsty lol Also self Parking was so expensive ..not sure why ! I think it was 25$ a day which feels a bit discouraging to park ?? All I'm doing is parking my own car it was so WEIRD. You HAVE to have a car in Banff. room service food sucked too lol but what do you expect from frozen hotel food. I didn't go to any of the restaurants so I hope they're better. I honestly loved the hotel though hahahah which is why I gave 4 stars ! I'll definitely be back. I love this hotel.

Yelp
Very disappointed- no mini bar or even water in the room . Taking forever to get our luggage . Very tired room .
google avatar

Yelp
My room had a comfortable bed and we enjoyed a good breakfast at Primrose. Despite that, the overall feel of the place was not equal to the value of the price paid for the room.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel. My room was on the 4th floor, fantastic Mountain View. I appreciate them letting me check in two hours early. The front desk checked in on me for everything to make sure my stay was wonderful, food was good and if I needed anything. It was oddly overly friendly but why would I complain about good customer service :). The only reason I gave her four stars do the oddly out. You almost always have to go to the seventh floor lobby to change over wings (north and south). this was slightly annoying when going to the gym and pool on the third floor which I had to catch from the hallway where the café is. Super funky but this established hotel can't change this-so just be prepared.

B J.

Yelp
One star because THEY CHARGE A PREDATORY $25 for SELF-parking. Ugh! Yeah, seriously!?!? That's really sh*tty to charge this to your PAID GUESTS. Just raise your rates. Hate these types of charges. Low class!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Beautiful hotel with picturesque views. It would've been 5/5 if they allowed us to go take pictures at the balcony area. I'm willing to come back to experience this establishment when it's the Fall Season and I get to go and see its splendor from the balcony area.

Yelp
Our quiet get away to the Rimrock Resort was the perfect break from hectic, pandemic life. The room was beautiful, overlooking the mountains, gondola and city of Banff. Staff were welcoming, entertaining and followed all COVID-19 protocols. Drinks & played cards in the Divas Cocktail lounge. Outdoor skating. Easy transportation into town so you can park and go. There are not a lot of paths/places to walk directly at the hotel but a little further up the mountain is hiking and walking paths. Will stay again!

Yelp
The Rimrock Resort hotel in Banff was a beautiful resort with very friendly and accommodating employees. They offer a number of restaurants and also a bar and a spa so you could technically just stay at the hotel and not even leave :). However, if you want they also offer a free shuttle to downtown Banff which is just down the hill. It's terrific for those times you are heading to town for dinner and drinks. The room itself was wonderful with a great bed and bedding, nice and spacious room with a living room area near the large windows, and a beautiful view. We did go to the spa and my husband and I had wonderful massages. The waiting are was a bit small, and they didn't have a woman's larger size robe (one size type of thing leaning toward mediums) so that was difficult especially in a unisex waiting room and I had to ask for the men's robe. It is a great hotel and we would highly recommend it for the amenities, location, and service. Great experience!

Yelp
The best hotel in town for the price, DO NOT be fooled by the other hotels in this town, if you have a Rental vehicle this is the place to stay 100% and get the mountain view room. This hotel is basically a 5 star hotel in disguise, it's probably a Banff secret, trust me. The food is amazing, service amazing, and they don't charge $10 for a bottle of water! From check in to check out this place amazed me and only wish I knew about it sooner.

K R.

Yelp
Hotel staff was exceptional and helped us with minor things like setting up the Wi-Fi, bringing more tea and extra hangers. It is a pet friendly hotel and even though there were dogs near our room we did not hear them barking at all. They had Christmas activities including movies, ice skating and a games room so it helped us entertain our kids during our stay. Primrose had excellent food.

Yelp
I was really quite disappointed with my stay here. As someone who grew up in the area I was as always under the impression this was one of "the" luxury hotels in the area. My first room was really quite awful, I have had nicer rooms in motels. Dark, bad smell, a recycling bin in the middle of the bathroom, a horrible view with no light. I did pay for an upgrade, I would have just assumed even the basic rooms here would be nice. This is not the case. The service, especially at the front desk, was quite poor and I often felt that I was seen as a bother, even at check in. I will say the people at the cafe were lovely however. I only are at larkspur, and if you can sit on the balcony you get a wonderful view. The service there was quite good too, but that is just for the restaurant. I left with a strong desire not to return, I'd rather find a boutique hotel in banff itself, or if I want to pay luxury prices again find a place that actually delivers the experience.

Yelp
I am going to start this review with the positive parts. The negative part is a bit long winded. The dinner, breakfast, and housekeeping staff were absolutely wonderful and very friendly. The view from our room was amazing. The main part of the hotel is very nice and fancy. I liked that they provide bus tickets to town from the hotel. The negative parts started from the moment we pulled up to check in. We were offered luggage service and declined, we asked if we could use one of the spare carts and take our own luggage. The guy said yes. We got the cart next to our car and started to unload our luggage. A car pulled in behind us during that time. The luggage guy took our luggage off the cart we were using( we only had a couple bags at this point on the cart) and took the cart to the car behind us. I made our reservations for 2 rooms. During check in I was asked if the 2nd rooms guest were here. I said, yes they are waiting outside by the car. The front desk guy said he will get me checked into our room then do the second room. He gives me the keys to our room and says have a nice stay. I said what about the second room? He said that guest needs to come in and check in themselves. He didn't mention that at the beginning. So we stood in line again to get the keys for our second room. The last part is the vent in the bathroom and what looks like mold in the light over the shower (I realize that some people don't think this is a big deal) I think it really goes a long way to vacuum all the accumulated dust on the vents for the room. It only takes a couple seconds, and it shows a great attention to details. I posted pics of the dust on the vent and the light fixture that looks like it has mold in it.

Yelp
The Rimrock is lovely, we stayed there for about a week on our honeymoon. The staff is wonderful, very polite and helpful. Our room had an absolutely gorgeous view (and the room itself is very clean). The breakfast buffet is fantastic. I personally like that The Rimrock is just outside of downtown Banff - gives you some peace and quiet, but then they provide a free shuttle downtown (only takes 5 mins). Staying at this hotel is definitely worth the splurge! My only complaint is that you have to pay for parking.

Katie E.

Yelp
The hotel room was nice and the views are amazing. Otherwise it's just a hotel. I did use the gym and had a fabulous massage also. The spa is a bit small for the resort size and really no amenities- but the service was awesome. The food service was poor. Our server was very sweet but our food took way too long (90 minutes for 2 burgers) and mine was prepared incorrectly. I didn't like that you couldn't walk into town (no sidewalks.) although they have free bus passes I enjoy walking. There is a hike down which we did but remember bear spray and bug spray. There were so many mosquitos it was not enjoyable at all to hike down. The bellman Eddin was really helpful and nice. He remembered us each time and gave very personal attention and service. While the room and spa were nice next time I'd stay somewhere closer to town/in town.

Yelp
Great location, next to Banff Gondola. When you walk into the lobby, that's 7 fl of the hotel. Primrose restaurant located on 6th floor. That was a bit confusing. Room was pretty normal upscale hotel room with rainbow shower and all. The best thing of Rimrock was the view from the lobby. Friendly service also.
google avatar

Kristian U.

Yelp
On the long cold walk from the Banff Gondola rides, we decided to pop in for a late drink in the Rimrock. Their gorgeous (and extensive) lobby bar is called the Larkspur Lounge and spans nearly the entire length of the hotel. The lounge is adorned with numerous comfortable seating areas, that can serve as small group hangouts OR as casual dining. We posted up near the walk-in fireplace (yeah the staff kept walking in with new logs to keep the fire roaring, so you can imagine how big it was) and ordered a round (or 2) of drinks! I went with the Canadian Maple Old Fashioned ($18), described as a 2 oz cocktail; The American classic cocktail with a Canadian Twist, so famous the glass it's served in is named after it. Canadian Limited Edition Rye Whiskey, Bitters & a Drop or Two of Maple Syrup It was a really well-balanced version of an Old Fashioned and the real Maple Syrup paired beautifully with the Rye, standing out on its own while managing to blend in with the drink. Easy drinking, delicious, order me 2 more please and thanks! I'd fly back to Banff just for another one of these, please.

Yelp
The service is hit and miss! For the $$$$ value it's a miss. The valet is completely disorganized, staff standing around not helping. Then when they get your keys they just hand them to you!?? They don't open the door or anything, but expect a tip?? They may want to take their staff to the Banff springs on a field trip to see how concierge and valet is run, night and day. One of our waiters in the lounge where we had drinks was completely disconnected and just had a bad attitude. Didn't make our stay welcome, you also need to learn how to make a Moscow mule....if you're charging that much for drinks, know how to make them. Shout out for the staff at the primrose morning buffet, wow they were awesome!!
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
It's been a wonderful stay so far, upon our arrival the doorman Michael was ready to take our luggage as well as valet our SUV, he was awesome and very good at his job. Oh and btw, valet parking is included when you are in a higher end room. The front counter had everything ready to go and was extremely efficient. My boyfriend happened to work here at the Rimrock many years ago, in town for a conference he connected with one of the managers......Betty set us up in a very beautiful room with a view like I've never seen.......thank you so much Betty. Everything is so clean, the staff are on top of their game, and I also find everyone to be very helpful and polite. I was taken on a tour of the different areas, the cafe, gym, pool and hot tub, spa, and the ballroom/conference space. This place is wonderful. If you have the chance to stay here, please do so. Enjoy.

Yelp
Rimrock resort is our usual accommodations in Banff or when visiting Banff National park. We've stayed here a number of times and each stay is different in service. This stay everything was perfect. Birthday getaway to celebrate. Used Rimrock Royalty points to upgrade to a Premium room with 2 queens and balcony. Welcome gift as RR member and coupons for complementary champagne for celebrating a birthday. Room nicely appointed and nice space for our family. Littles love the pool and us the hot tub. Swim before bedtime and ordered room service for bedtime snack. Breakfast in the Primrose dining room included for adults with our stay. We chose breakfast buffet since it was a wait for a table. Littles were $14 each for buffet. Eggs benny fresh, being a popular buffet item. Made to order omelettes, bacon, 2 types of sausages, pastries, fruit, cereals, smoked salmon, and other items. The best part of or stay was the hotel had a skating rink. We forgot to pack our skates but you can rent skates from the Spa, $10 adults and $5 kids no time limit of use. We had to whole rink to ourselves. If we didn't have to make our way home, we would have stayed another night and skated until the evening and next day. TIP - join the Rimrock Royalty program, self or valet is half off regular price. Welcome gifts and use points towards room upgrades

Yelp
This was a great place to stay 2 years ago, amazing breakfast bar, pool and nice staff. When I called to discuss another stay, things have changed. The Rimrock Marketing manager Brea Todd, was not available for my call to clarify details but front desk staff stated very limited access will be given to those who refuse to show medical information. This violates international law and also goes beyond the Alberta recommendation guidelines. Sounds like staying here would force me to support discrimination, division and harm to my community.

Yelp
A great hotel that's a 5 minute drive away from downtown Banff and close to the gondola and hot springs. Both of our rooms (we upgraded for the 2nd night) had great views of the mountains. The first room faced north and was on the 2nd highest floor. Since it wasn't very busy we asked the staff for the best room available to us since we paid and reserved through Hotwire. They set us up in the handicap room which offered larger square footage in both the bathroom and room. Upon first glance everything seemed great but on closer inspection the tiny details had been overlooked. The bathroom especially left a lot to be desired: no fan to clear out the steam from showering, very bad job putting up the wallpaper, and two toilet paper rolls that both required a full stretch from anyone under 6 feet. From that first room we saw a row of suites that were right above the spa/pool/gym area and had it's own private patio. Since we were having a visitor stay with us the second night we decided it would be best to upgrade. It only cost us an extra $75 for the upgrade and it was done quite efficiently. South facing, two beds and a large patio made for a more comfortable night. However the bathroom was so small that you had to squeeze between the tub & toilet to close the door. It did have an additional exterior sink/mirror counter if the bathroom was occupied. Also there was half the closet room compared to our first room. We had a great experience from the staff except one time. We went down to the restaurant for breakfast and there were a total of 3 tables occupied. There was no one at the hostess booth so after waiting a few moments we just wandered into the dining area. One server was assisting a table and the other was wiping a table that was clean and already set. We stood there waiting till someone could seat us and the server who was wiping the table looked up and rudely said the sign at the front said to wait to be seated. There were at least 50 empty tables and she asked us to back to the hostess booth. I thought this was ridiculous and said as much directly to her face. As a guest of a high end hotel this type of service is unacceptable. I clearly told her my displeasure while in front of the other dining guests so that they could hear. Even with the bathroom issues and the disgruntled server I would probably stay here again. I will say that I didn't like the fact that every time we wanted to go into Banff we had to drive. It isn't conducive to having more then one drink at dinner or just walking around the town.

Yelp
Great place to stay, friendly staff, nice and clean rooms (appreciated the large TVs, the review website pictures had very small TVs), breakfast buffet is solid but have a few notes: 1. When it gets crowded due to a busy season or conferences happening, it feels a bit too small. 2. Like a lot of hotels, the walls are a bit thin. Could hear the next door people arguing. 3. Wish there were more food choices.

Yelp
If this review were based only on the location of the Rimrock Resort Hotel - it would be a solid 5+ stars. However, taking everything (location, room, service, food, etc.) into consideration - it slips back to a 4.5 stars. Let's start with the obvious - the location is off the charts. It is just stunning. And, an afternoon meal and drink in the main bar on the balcony is the raw material for legendary travel memories. The stunning view does cause a slight problem - you can't walk through the lobby without getting sidetracked to the 2+ story windows to gaze at the beautiful mountains. I was late for meeting friends on more than one occasion. As for the rooms - well, you're not in the Banff National Park to sit in your room. However, if a room with a view is a big deal for you . . . spend a little extra money and get a premium room. We stayed in a standard room on the eighth floor with a balcony, but it overlooked the frontage road and left much to be desired for sitting on the balcony and having a glass of wine. We opted to spend our time in the main bar or on the large patio outside of the spa. Both are great public space locations with premium views. Speaking of the spa - the gym and pool are just fantastic. We spent a number of late evening hours with our little girl and our friends kids swimming and playing. Yes, it is an indoor pool - but the large windows give you a constant view of the beautiful surroundings. The hotel food is not bad. I mean it - for hotel food, its actually very good. We ate at three of the four hotel restaurants and enjoyed all of our meals. Were they "write home about" great - no, but the service and the general ambience of the hotel more than made up for any deficits in the food preparation. Finally the service - very solid and super friendly. We had, on more than one occasion, a server in the bar and a server in one of the restaurants for a couple of meals. They remembered us, went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and made our evenings very special. All and all - the Rimrock is a must visit, destination hotel. It is worth every penny and we will certainly be back.

Yelp
My two teenagers and i were in Banff for Thanksgiving weekend (Canada) and saw that the Primrose Room at this hotel was offering a Thanksgiving dinner advertised at $39 so we reserved. The dinner (actually $56 we discovered on arrival) was pressed turkey, on top of mashed potatoes which were gold-green coloured and a tablespoon of dressing, corn meal i think. The best thing about the meal was the gravy. Dessert was a sliver of pumpkin pie (did not qualify as a "course"). My teens ordered off of the a la carte menu and one lucked out with the roast chicken. Everything else was at best mediocre. Apart from the beautiful view, our $200 meal at this restaurant was a total waste of both time and money.

Yelp
I made a reservation on Expedia for this hotel. After check-in, the bellhop followed me to my room where the key didn't work. It kept lighting red, so the bellhop used his key, where we entered an occupied room with a man inside, oops! I waited in the hall while the bellhop ran downstairs to get a new room. Upon entering a new room, two housekeeping ladies asked us to wait a minute. The new room was totally fine, just as I remembered and expected. I liked that the room had a fridge, snacks for purchase, and was very clean. After we checked into the room, they call to follow up to ensure satisfactory conditions of the room. You also receive a welcome gift, a chocolate dipped cookie. The hotel has a 24 hour gym, pool with adults only between 10&11pm, business center, cafe and multiple restaurants to choose from. A good 24 hour room service menu as well. The self parking is an additional $22/day. I really like this hotel. Would return!

Yelp
We bid online and lucked out on this place. The location is perfect, great views, a short walk to the gondola, nice trails in the woods that bring you to Fairmount. Really liked the huge gym. We also enjoyed the bar with live music. They had an absolutely awesome mothers day brunch filled with every seafood you could find.

Yelp
First, hotel was very kind to accommodate an early checkin for us. This hotel has great views and rooms are ok. My room was quite dark and one of the lamps (office table lamp) didn't work. After entering the room, there is a light switch at entrance but no switch that turns on any light in the full room area itself. I must find individual lamp switches to get any reasonable light. That is poor. I only tried breakfast twice which was poor for a hotel of this class. Bar/lunch service also lacks in food options and offered few mediocre wines on the menu. There is a small cafe on site with wonderful coffee and croissants. Hotel reception in general is nothing to boast about. Here is the full exchange at check out. How was your stay? I said, ok. Would you like printed or emailed receipt? Printed please. Probably casual racism against brown folks thinking everyone brown is recent immigrant to Canada penny pinching all day. Or they don't need to please anyone with 5M visitors a year. The room cost was ~$450 USD per night to put this in perspective. If they improve their breakfast quality and their lunch menu, I will still stay there.

Yelp
Room was beautiful. Advertisement said obstructed view but it was lovely. Quiet and centrally located. Bar had great views and comfortable seating. Walk over to Banff gondola - amazing views.

Yelp
So the two stars are for four star views and service. Beautiful and clean and good foood etc. I had to take the stars down to two due to the HORRIBLE weird smell permeating the rooms and the resort. It was like mildew or mold. A horrible stale smell that I couldn't sleep through. I looked up reviews after and it appears to be something others experience. If you have a sensitive sniffer (my husband wasn't as bothered by it) stay away.

Yelp
Stayed two nights at the rimrock for a wedding. The hotel is quite nice. It's far from the main area of Banff. The hotel has an amazing view of the valley and mountains. The hotel is well kept and clean. Service is great and staff are friendly. We had a great time. The restaurant inside is called the primrose and offers brunch buffet for 29 dollars. The buffet is a bit limited in terms of selection and the ingredients quite plain. I think we would have been better off eating in town. Overall though a nice stay full of amenities (24 hr gym, wifi, pool, hot tub, business centre etc)

Yelp
We spent 2 nights at the Rimrock. We splurged on a suite since we probably won't make it back to Banff, as the Town itself isn't one of our favorites. Everything about this Hotel was on point from when we pulled up to the time we left. Service was excellent by everyone we came in contact with and the food and drinks are outstanding in both the lounge and dining room. Outstanding.

Yelp
We stayed here for 8 nights in July/Aug the peak of High season. Valet and concierge as well as front desk were always friendly and efficient. Our room on 9th (top) floor had awesome views. Small fridge. Safe, ironic board, hair dryer, coffee maker and tea kettle. Beds were soft. Linings nice too. Towels good (but I've had better) room had two comfy chairs with a foot ottoman, desk with computer chair. I really liked the usb charging ports in the bases of the desk and bedside lamps, we used these all the time. Bathroom was well appointed, not luxurious but nice. Room seemed well maintained, not brand new but not Shopworn either. The hotel is not in town it is up the mountain near the skytram and hot springs. There is free bus shuttle to town that runs regularly ( use your hotel keycard as a pass). We never used the bus but parking in Banff on weekends is trying so might me a good option. Diner at Eden is a splurge you should take if you can afford it. Considering our average dinner for 2 in Banff averaged $200 it's not out of line for four star dining. There were several weddings and tour busses arriving here during our stay. I was amazed at how well the front of house handled them, real pros. So place is great. Is it cheap.... no we paid about $450 a night during peak season for double queen room with a Mountain View. Bigger rooms and bathrooms for sure than the piedmont, newer too!

Yelp
This hotel is not worth the amount I paid to stay here in a premium room with views. It's all bells and whistles, and the basics were a miss: The biggest negative is the parking situation. It's $22/night + tax for self-parking! The hotel is up a hill and you need keycard entry, so it's not like there's risk of anyone parking there if they're not staying at the hotel. I think it's unreasonable to charge (and so much) for guests to be able to park their car while staying at the Rimrock! Additionally, the self-parking situation was not great. The first night I checked in, it was 8:30pm, and the entire lot was full. And when you get to the end of the lot, it's nearly impossible to turn back around to reverse out of the structure - very claustrophobic. I was about to drive back to the front to request complimentary valet parking ($36/night) due to the lack of self parking spots when someone left their spot and I was able to park. Another baffling scenario. During one of my hikes, I broke a nail. At most hotels I usually stay, especially ones at this price range and with a Spa that offers manicures/pedicures, I would be able to get a disposable nail filer from housekeeping/front desk. I called housekeeping, and they just told me that it was not something they had. Fine. Then, I went down to the Spa to ask, since I figure they'd be closer to their services. There was no one working there. I waited for about 15 mins, when another staff member showed up and asked ME if anyone was working there. I don't know! Looked like he was a manager and looking for the same missing staffer. I ended up asking him for a nail filer and he directed me upstairs to concierge. I went upstairs and asked, and they seemed unsure but agreed to go check and was able give a nail filer (in the usual hotel packaging including cotton balls and q-tips). Not sure why I needed to run all around the hotel to request a fairly common necessity. Additionally, during our stay, it was cold. Well below freezing at night/early mornings, and hovered around freezing during the day. Each day my family and I craved a hot shower; however, the water never really got really hot. It was warm at most, and then didn't consistently stay warm. If I was shampooing my hair, by the time I needed to rinse, the water would oscillate to cold and I would need to wait for it to get warm again. Showering was a pain because of this. Lastly, after checking out, we headed to the airport. Once at my gate, I realized that I may have forgotten my prescription glasses in the room (I was wearing my contacts). I called the hotel, and the front desk forwarded me to housekeeping where no one picked up. I was able to leave a message though, so I did with a number to return my call to verify if anyone was able to find my glasses or not upon making up the room. No one ever returned my call. Also, I didn't see anywhere where you could easily refill your water bottle; likely because the hotel would rather you pay the $4-5 to buy one in the room. And the breakfast buffet is $32pp. For over $300/night at this hotel, supposedly touting "resort" status, I'm extremely disappointed in the moments in my stay where I needed service. I would not recommend this hotel to others, and unfortunately, do not plan to stay here again in the future. On the positive side, the room itself was roomy, clean and pretty comfortable. Location was convenient.

Yelp
Gave this one star because I couldn't give any less. Originally we even considered staying here for our vacation. However I cannot be more glad that we did not. Everyone in Canada has been very friendly and accommodating, that is, until we met the lady that works at the front desk that refused to validate our parking ticket. The reason she gave was that our time at the parking lot exceeded 3 hours. We checked personally that our time was around the three hours, in fact, we even offered to pay for the extra time (which was much less than an hour, we only exceeded the time by about half an hour). However, this lady said we had to pay the ENTIRE TIME. THE ENTIRE TIME. If the parking lot had given us prior notice we wouldn't have needed to even go inside the hotel at all, however the parking lot offered NO CLEAR INSTRUCTION. So after this whole ordeal, we had to walk all the way back out, up the elevator and to our car- an utter waste of our time. I hope our terrible experience can serve to warn others to be careful when booking this hotel, or even parking here at all.

Yelp
My fiancé and I stayed here to check out some venues for our wedding. We decided to stay at the Rimrock hotel because of convenience and it being close to downtown without skyrocketing room prices. If you're there for the views, GET A ROOM WITH A VIEW! it makes the biggest difference in the world! It was well worth the extra cost to see the mountains. Otherwise the view will be obstructed by a large building. The hotels gym was clean and had TVs all around so my fiancé could watch sports while working out. Everything was super clean, and it had plenty of room. About 8 people were always using the gym every time we went. The whirlpool was magnificent! It could fit 20 people comfortably and had a cool layout so you could have a private section even when others are in it too. Water was always clean and warm and the jets all worked well too. The pool was amazing and fresh. It was a tad cold, and was around 5 feet through out so pretty great for swimming laps! Check out the lounge and restaurants too, the breakfast buffet at primrose was awesome, and the lounge had a great fresh salad. Definitely would recommend to anyone to go here! Just make sure you rent a car so you don't have to cab everywhere since there's no uber :)

Yelp
Our second trip to Banff and could not get the Fairmont even a long way in advance. The Rimrock was a superior surprise. The rooms were nicer and larger than the "other" place and all the staff was as least as awesome and double cordial as the Fairmont. And to my taste the mattresses were better too. The lounge piano player was great for the mostly middle age and plus crowd. The location up by the hot springs and gondola was only minimally inconvenient because the hotel provided local transit passes and the buses were clean and ran at least twice an hour. Don't know if a third trip to Banff will ever happen but if it did we would stay at the Rimrock.

Yelp
Location! Location! Location! Here is a hotel that is making the most of its geographical advantage while delivering little for well over $400 per night. Really, once you've had a look at the breathtaking mountains - a few minutes - what do you have left? Hopefully a great experience with great service, a clean room, and excellent sight-seeing. Well, one out of three we got. The location afforded us walking distance for sight seeing but little else. First of all, the hotel is dated and there is little service to be had. The concierge somehow placed our bags in the wrong room and we had to wait for the bags. No real apology - their stand on it was - sorry but not a biggie. Supposedly, another guest who has not yet arrived may have sent his bags ahead and he happens to have the same last name as mine and will be checking in soon - not entirely impossible...right? Also, the bags were returned 10 minutes after my call - "so what's the problem?" First of all, I would say the bags were out of our sight for close to 30 minutes. The bags we taken from us while we were still checking in, my family was trying to follow the service person but lost her as she boarded the elevator. I had to take the car and park it and maneuver my way around the hotel for the first time - getting lost once or twice. Once I got to my room and found out there were no bags, I had to call and wait the 10mins for them to find it. So...yes...a biggie as my backpack contained everything - cash, wallet, passports, medication...! The room is old and smelly. The window was left open for ventilation - there is no way to control on your own. The room itself is small and everything is dated and well worn out. You would expect more for the price you pay. There are no complimentary anything - not even a bottle of water after the long trek to get there. Oh...the bed is tiny and very uncomfortable and if you like to take a shower, the water pressure is non-existent. One more thing, the WIFI internet access is horrible too. After running around Sulphur Mountain, which is part of the sight-seeing I mentioned, we wanted to relax and enjoy the evening. Catch the ball game on TV, work out and get some sleep. Did I mention everything was dated and worn out? Well the TV had no brightness control and it was very difficult to enjoy watching anything. We called for service and a tech arrived - he was thoroughly confused and told me he would return shortly. After what it felt was forever, I made the long trek to the front desk. Well let's see the amazing service - we're due for it after the baggage mix-up...right? Not really. The front desk asked me to return to my room, all should be ok when I get back. Not so, and still no service person. I trekked back and was told a load of something that made no sense. I was asked to go back again and I did. This time, a service tech was there and he said that it was because the TV was an "OLD" one and it needed to be replaced. By this time, I'm pretty burned up as they wasted an hour of my family's time - and the game was over. I went back and told them with no uncertainty that I was not happy. Once I returned to my suite - my room key stopped working! Wow! A fourth trip and some smirks from the staff. To top it off, the small fitness club was useless. 2 of the 3 treadmills were broken , the weight machines were rusted and the anchor points for the weights were misaligned. Forget about getting a workout! I met with the General Manager the next day. He downplayed the lost luggage once more to 10mins and the same story about another future visitor - whatever. He then told me that my profanities and other descriptive words were witnessed by his staff (no guests) and he was unhappy. My lord! To what extent will these people go to cover themselves. I never said the words that were being uttered to me by the GM. His staff would go to these lengths to cover their shortcomings - truly sad people with arrogance to top it off! I was offered a refund on the second night if we wanted to leave - what a great guy he is, especially since the whole area is sold out. I went back to the room and checked online for whatever we could find. Once we got our plan together, we packed up and left. We wanted out of the place so badly, we skipped our already paid Hot Springs for four! Needless to say, we could not get away any faster! Will not be returning ever. They will suffer very little as they continue to bus in loads of unsuspecting tourists from overseas. What a terrible letdown as the RimRock was supposed to be one of the many highlights of our western province family vacation. I don't give terrible ratings to hotels unless they really deserve it. Arrogant staff, bad service, old rooms, old equipment, add to it lack of accountability and steep pricing. It all sums up to a bad time in a bad place. Terrible!

Yelp
I stayed at the Rimrock (sadly for work, not romance) but I was upgraded to a room with an incredible view and I spent every moment I had to myself wrapped in a hotel bathrobe, drinking chilled wine and sitting by the window in my room just soaking up the magical view. Or roaming the hotel, sampling world class desserts and checking out the spa. Apart from the work thing it was a perfect stay, I can't think of anything I'd change. My suite had a view of the little skating rink and the only people using it were a young woman, her little boy and their dog. It was so sweet and like something out of a Norman Rockwell painting!

Yelp
Enjoyed our stay here much better than the Fairmont Banff Springs. I would say the location of this hotel is even more scenic than the Fairmont. Unfortunately, the quality of the interior building materials was really unimpressive. For example, many ceilings were that cheap basic dropped ceiling that you expect to see in chain stores. These dropped ceiling panels were throughout the spa/fitness area and even in the bathroom of our suite. I wish I would have taken a picture of the bathroom actually because it was so cheaply put together that the counter was uneven and some of the tile trim was missing. Overall, really unimpressive and just sad to see such a low quality remodel/maintenance of a gorgeous historical building.

Yelp
We stayed at the Rimrock for our babymoon at the end of Oct. It was a good experience. We booked the king with mountain view -- gorgeous view. Plenty of space in the room and bathroom. Looked like they missed cleaning here and there (dusty tv stand, etc.), but overall was a decent room. My favorite part about our stay was the spa. Had an incredible massage!

Yelp
I've rated the Rimrock as 5 star quality but reasonably priced. For not being a large hotel it has big amenities & has the biggest views in all of Banff! Great options for dining. Close to Sulphur tram & nearby hot springs.

Yelp
I've stayed here at least yearly for over ten years. Today, when we arrived, we spoke with four different staff members (valet, front desk), and all four were top notch interesting fun personable people -- just right for what a person needed. We're in a room that has been recently renovated and all the furnishings look great, as do the walls and the bathroom. I'm about to go enjoy my favourite drink in the world in the Larkspur Lounge, the Raspberry Passion martini, and I'll see if the unfavourable review of the Larkspur is deserved or not. I do agree with other reviewers that paying extra for the gym kinda stinks ... but that's about all that troubles me about this hotel. More anon, I'm sure.

Yelp
Great location high above Banff. Fantastic views from Grand view room. Nice size room with seating for views. Service was impeccable. Transportation to Banff is included using local transit service every 20 minutes. Indoor Parking is adjacent to Rimrock. Walking distance to sulfur hot springs and gondola. I really enjoy my stay.

Yelp
Awesome place to stop in and catch a view and a beer :) very kind wait staff. Gave me ideas on which beer I'd like out of the local brews. Warm and cozy, large fireplace to keep you feeling at home.
