The Rink Shopping Center

Oh, The Rink. Forget that you're not a shopper's paradise. Forget that you're not a foodie's heaven. What you are, on top of anything else, is a life saver! Well, maybe not that extreme, but you were a comforter to me, my spouse, and the rest of our Garden District tour group! LOL. Being in NOLA, in June, it was unimaginably hot and muggy. Luckily for us, the mid-point of our tour was awarded a refreshing break in the cool confines of your walls. Though we did nothing but fan ourselves and try to end our panting, my Yelpatitis did kick in enough to mosey around to discover a coffee shop, souvenirs galore, realtor offices, makeup retail, clothing sales and a nostalgic bookstore. Fret not, some people did contribute to your economy. OVERALL: The Rink is a total "necessity" mall for the locals. Travelers like us found it as a welcomed rest stop.

Nice spot with a classy coffee shop and a beautiful book store maintaining the traditions of local books and reading.

This place is really a beautiful building with lots of natural light and a few cute shops. The popular shops seem to be the chicory house and the bookstore. The upstairs seating under the skylight is perfection

Is okay little place, nice book shop with a hair salon and a place for light shopping. There is a small cafe but they are not that nice either.

We stopped at the coffee shop at The Rink and got tea and smashed potatoes, which were delicious. Unfortunately they didn't have a lot of things on the menu. Nice public restroom, though, which is convenient when walking around the Garden District.

The rink is amazing! There are such cute shops and the food is great! There is a very good bookshop and there are many cute shops!

Pandemic update: Things are afoot at the Rink! Evidently there are new owner of this nearly 150 year old building. Yes it was built as a roller skating rink in the 1880s. Crazy fads! There have been renovations happening and some tenants have had their spaces re-shaped and others are not staying. It will interesting to see what happens in 2021 with this space. Masks are required and they have signs up about who is cleaning the space. As always the parking underneath the building is key to a quick visit.

All the stores were closed Sunday except the bakery downstairs. We had the strawberry blueberry crumb muffin which was moist but really messy to eat...prices very reasonable!

A small, but cute little shopping area that's indoors. There seemed to be about 5 or 6 shops and a few realtor offices. Hours were a bit strange (10-7) and we were there before they opened so we could only see things through the windows. TIP - there is a public bathroom here with a small fee of $.25. If you want to use a free bathroom go to the Perk and buy something.

Beautiful historic building with a handful of boutiques and office spaces. I wandered around for about 20 minutes while my husband was on the phone with work (yawn) but didn't find anything terribly compelling. Lots of tchotchkes, NOLA themed items, gifts, housewares, books, a baby/children's clothing store, jewelry and whatnot. Air conditioning is obviously a huge plus - the coffee shop on the first floor is great too!

We found this little shopping center down in the Garden District near the Lafayette Cemetery No 1. Unfortunately most of the businesses inside were not open at 9:30 am. The coffee shop was open. This little mall is nice with benches, skylights, and a parking garage underneath with an elevator to take you up to the shopping level. The street entrance had a lot of stairs. There is a bathroom but you need a quarter to get in. Or you can purchase something at the coffee shop and use theirs.

We visited this little joint as part of our first stop on our way garden district tour. From the outside, the rink appears like a comprehensive little mall, but once you step in, it's rather empty and contains mostly office buildings. It could be a nice place to get in the shade from visiting the cemetery, but I don't think I'd spend any more time here.

This is a small shopping mall in the Garden District quite near my house. They actually have a parking garage underneath the building so that makes it easier to park here than a lot of Magazine Street these days. Honestly the only business I've ever patronized here is the coffee shop, Still Perkin. There are a random assortment of other shops and offices here that I've never had a need or desire to go to and it mostly seems like women's shopping with nothing of interest to a grumpy ole dude such as myself. Maybe they could add a gun & fishing store to excite me one day... haha who I'm I kidding this is Orleans Parish and they can't do anything like that as they would rather all the tax revenue go to Jefferson Parish.

The building and shops were very clean, cool. Shops cute items. I am terribly ticked that this shopping center finds it ok to charge to use the bathroom..absolutely u acceptable.....paid toilets were in the 50s and 60s not a goood fad.....offer no bathroom rather than charging.....insulting.
