Excellent location for us finishing our 9 day hike on the Two Moorsway. Room clean and comfortable with great view of harbour. Customer lounge also a really nice area. Food we had in the evening and breakfast was really good and the staff were very attentive. Restaurant just needs a little deeper clean in the corners and places like the chair legs but wouldn't put me off coming again.

A friendly welcome on our five night stay. Ours was a small well serviced room with a most beautiful sea view, we made good use of the window seat to watch the world go by and enjoy a cuppa. We had great weather mostly but even in the rain the views were wonderful. The bar staff were friendly , the bar itself paid homage to its long long history of service most notable the fireplace and woodwork. The bar toilets were modern and definitely 21st century. We had a tasty cooked breakfast every morning and usually ended up taking our coffee cup outside to enjoy the tranquility of Lynmouth. We had intended to drive away on day trips but found walks in the village and surrounding area meant that the car stayed in the local carpark for the full holiday. We found that we could buy an cost effective longer stay parking permit from local parks shop. Our adventures included trips upwards on the funicular railway to explore Linton and the coastal paths.

I'm fan of old quirky British hotels and the Rising Sun fits that description perfectly. It is a 14th century inn, so know that you might find slightly uneven floors, narrrow hallways, and staircases, and lots of charm. I had a seaview room (5 I think) and slept great in it. The window did have a window seat and it was fantastic to wake up up a view of the sea. A minor issue with the toilet was resolved quickly. I found the service in the restaurant friendly and attentive. Food was great! Breakfast had the usual spread of pastries, cereal, and juice and I appreciated self service coffee. You could also order a cooked breakfast and I mostly did variations on a full English breakfast, such as eggs and toast only. It was fine. For dinner the food was outstanding, and the packed lunch of a ham and cheese sandwich was brilliant. I chatted with various employees over the course of my stay and found them all interesting and charming people. Nice selection of beers including Badger beers. Drinks and food were expensive but it is a tourist town in many ways, so this is not unexpected. It is easy to research prices in advance so you know what you will be paying. I'd love to stay there again. It's close to some wonderful walks and the town is very peaceful and quiet.

We were supposed to go for Fish & Chips but they were closed on a Monday night. We instead visited ‘The Rising Sun’ and was pleasantly surprised. We had the gourmet burger and a few beers. The burger was delicious and the waitress friendly and nice. Absolutely loved our visit. Definitely go there again.

Just the one night but great place to stay, wonderful old interesting building in perfect location for wandering along the small harbour & down to the beach. Staff were so helpful & kind letting us swap to a room with a sea view which was just perfect. Food was amazing & a very dog friendly place which was fab. Thank you

Fabulous old pub in amazing location. We ate here without knowing a Master Chef winner was cooking, so we judged the food accordingly. We all loved the Soft Shell Crab and Turbot though my wife thought the lamb was a little bit chewy. Taste however could not be faulted. Another Scallop would have justified the price 3 small one for £15 seemed a bit steep, they were delicious though. Definitely worth a visit and the addition expense.

Lovely old Inn. Stayed with friends on a multi day hike. The landlord was very helpful and accommodating as we were running late and the village was very busy with a Regatta. Great food friendly service, excellent location. Would definitely recommend. It’s a very old building so mind your head!

Thank you to all the staff at The Rising Sun you were all amazing. We stayed in your beautiful Shelley’s cottage which had the most amazing views over Lynmouth, absolutely breathtaking. This 14th century cottage was unique set in the Lynmouth hillside with its own patio overlooking both the sea and river. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff here and they were happy to plate an evening meal which was absolutely delicious and highly recommended. Thank you so much for making our stay perfect 😊

Yelp
Had dinner here yesterday - the fish and chips were really good but I got a seafood appetizer that was insanely good. It was clams, mussels, prawns, scallops in a broth that I wanted to actually drink out of the bowl. Service was great and the vibe was peaceful and calming. Highly recommend it. Also, the view off the water is awesome.

Yelp
The Rising Sun was recommended to us by our hostess at the Lyn Valley Guesthouse, and it was delightful. It's a charming 17th century pub, frequented by the locals, who greeted us with friendly joking as we came in. We had the mussels starter, which was terrific, and a very good fish and chips. The ales were excellent. The food is not cheap, but it's worth it.

Yelp
The Rising Sun lies on the harbour in Lynmouth below the village of Lynton which perches, connected by cable-car train, on the cliffs above. This is a magical spot, made more so by the comfort and meals available at this 14th-century smugglers' inn. Shelley and Blackmore both found inspiration for their writing here. The building is large, and the pub comfortable with creaky floors and a big fireplace. The dining here is exceptionally fine, though. Check out Exmoor Venison, English Confit Fondant, Sweet Red Onion Puree With a Blackberry and Game Fumé Demi-Glace or Fillet of Wild Boar braised in Cognac, Sugar poached New Potatoes With roast Chestnuts and Salsify and you'll know that this isn't your typical pie-and-mash pub. Tables are separated into several rooms for a cosy feel to each group. There are rooms for hire, too, each fancy with four-poster beds and some with sea views. It's a worthwhile special treat stop along a beautiful coastal drive.

Yelp
Celebrated my birthday here with the best and biggest fish and chips. Window table looking out at the harbour. Great atmosphere with friendly staff and lots of happy customers. Short walk back to our B&B in a lovely seaside town. There is a restaurant too and the menu is good and interesting, including lobster but the fish and chips served in the bar were the best choice!

Yelp
We didn't stay here, but made a day trip, and had lunch in the restaurant. The hotel dates to the 14th century (stuff around here is really old) and looks charming, but this review is about the food, which was outstanding. We had smoked mackerel and crabmeat sandwiches, both with homemade parsnip chips, which were amazing. Definite thumbs up!

Yelp
This is an amazing pub! It's really traditional and picturesqe - right on the harbour front in Lynmouth. The town itself is great as a base for a weekend away and the pub is by far the best in the village for spending the evening. The food is typical gournet pub prices but it's really good quality and the bar staff are really friendly. We went there for New Year last year and it was a fab night! Thoroughly recommend to anyone in the area!

Yelp
I have eaten here a couple of times recently and the food had been excellent on both occasions. The fairly local Exmoor ales are pretty good as well. the position of the pub, on a very old hill terrace overlooking Lynmouth harbour is as good as it gets. So far,so good. Unfortunately, there are a couple of negatives. Firstly, the food and drink is on the high side of average. Secondly, when full the pub gets a little claustrophobic, especially if you are trying top eat. Then there is the curate's egg service, varying from the quite friendly to the cold and distant. All in all, worth it for the food and drink but there are better places in North Devon.

Yelp
a hidden gem in a very beautiful location. not only the pub is a great place to stay and see the tide coming in. but the restaurant is just amazing. we were lucky to get the last table and had a wunderful seafood feast. starter was a shared fish and shellfish platter with home baked bread that would have been enough for both of us. awesome salmon great mackerel and lost of other delights. but all that was nothing against the fresh lobster that was caught in viewing distance - over crusted with a bit of cheese and served with potatoes as small and tasteful as truffles. wonderful. sadly enough we were all fed up and could only manage a shared dessert. but we will come again for sure!
