Beautiful setting. Hotel is lovely. Staff are great and couldn’t be more helpful. The food is outstanding. The rooms are beautifully done. Breakfast was lovely. We got out for some great walks and came back for some lovely hot lunch and a few drinks each day.

A lovely pub right on the harbour, such an old building with clearly a lot of history but remarkably clean with very comfortable rooms and modern bathrooms. Great beer and food and you are made to feel very welcome. I would highly recommend and will go back. I'm astonished that even in quiet times of year everything can still be so well done.

Lovely stay at the Rising Sun, where we have visited many times. The staff were friendly and the room very comfortable with a great view (room 2). Despite one of the chefs being ill (they warned us in advance), the food was excellent. I would say that the place is not *quite* at the very very high standard it was back in 2019 when we first stayed (e.g. the menu is more limited with no oysters or shellfish platter), but given Brexit, Covid and the cost of living crisis, I don’t think it’s fair to expect things not to have changed a bit. For the money, it is still very good value and a great place to stay.

Excellent rooms very quaint hotel. Breakfast was superb. Evening meal very fish orientated.|The staff were all helpful and atmosphere in the bar very good.|We would definitely return. The tables in the restaurant are very close together so you could hear everybody's conversations.

Great food, bar staff extremely attentive and friendly. 4th visit on business in 5 weeks. Location wonderful and great Chef. Highly recommend. Room 3 & 5 lovely and clean wonderful view. Loved the pork belly. I am always made to feel very welcome despite being on my own for business.

I called in 'on spec' on a Saturday early evening and they were able to seat me. The food was absolutely delicious; pork belly, followed by an ice-cream and Amaretto based dessert. Top quality food, well worth the price. A good selection of ales too. Highly recommended.

I booked a special couple of days to celebrate a member of my family’s 80th birthday so I booked a room with a sea view (did request a double bed ) when we arrived and went to check in the reception was not manned like it never was the 2 days we were at the rising son . Eventually we were given the keys for room 4 and the Cottage . We were shown to the first room which was up a very interesting flight of stairs ( yes the building is 700 years old but the smell was disgusting fishy really bad both in the room and in the hall way really turned our stomachs .there was a bathroom up a couple of stairs with freestanding bath with shower miser tap but no form of shower curtain I am 62 years old and would not have been able to get into the high bath ,the bed was packed up on one side with rolled up towels under the feet of the bed ,yes the room had a sea view the only best thing . We were then told how to get into the cottage up a seriously steep hill and round the corner and up a flight of stairs it was a really tuff climb ,we opened the door and was greeted by a horrible damp smell as much as had not being aired in a while . Saying that the cottage was really nice apart from the smell really comfortable nice shower bed and living room if it were in a different place and not up a steep climb. I tried contacting via email reception to try and get family mover from room 4 to a more suitable room and or get some form of air fresheners at the very least - no response to any emails . After settling in the best we could we went to restaurant really too fancy meals for us and fairly expensive not great ,we finally had some really good pizzas in Number 10 restaurant in lynton . The next morning we arrived for breakfast we kindly told that they had no baked beans or hashbrowns available really bad start but breakfast was ok 5 out of 10 ,what is it with prunes the biggest dish I have ever seen . After breakfast sent another email to reception as the smell in room 4 was still really bad finally got reply (if you are not satisfied then you can check out early and we will refund you 1 night back ) really that would have ruined our few days away discussing dissapointed to say the least no sign of any air fresheners or room change . We would not stay here ever again and cannot recommend any one to stay in Room 4 and if you are fairly fit you might like the lodge room 18 . We did originally book the lodge as quoted a garden for our little dog but no garden just a huge pile of weeds ( unfortunately our dog passed away 2 weeks prior to our visit be very careful booking This place cost me £548 for both rooms for 2 nights Thursday night and Friday night)

Our stay at the Rising Sun was very pleasant. There was confusion with our booking for an evening meal was was unhelpful and the evening meal although delicious did lack vegetables. In the past the RS also boasted fish which was somewhat lacking. I would stay here again.

Yelp
Had dinner here yesterday - the fish and chips were really good but I got a seafood appetizer that was insanely good. It was clams, mussels, prawns, scallops in a broth that I wanted to actually drink out of the bowl. Service was great and the vibe was peaceful and calming. Highly recommend it. Also, the view off the water is awesome.

Yelp
The Rising Sun was recommended to us by our hostess at the Lyn Valley Guesthouse, and it was delightful. It's a charming 17th century pub, frequented by the locals, who greeted us with friendly joking as we came in. We had the mussels starter, which was terrific, and a very good fish and chips. The ales were excellent. The food is not cheap, but it's worth it.

Yelp
The Rising Sun lies on the harbour in Lynmouth below the village of Lynton which perches, connected by cable-car train, on the cliffs above. This is a magical spot, made more so by the comfort and meals available at this 14th-century smugglers' inn. Shelley and Blackmore both found inspiration for their writing here. The building is large, and the pub comfortable with creaky floors and a big fireplace. The dining here is exceptionally fine, though. Check out Exmoor Venison, English Confit Fondant, Sweet Red Onion Puree With a Blackberry and Game Fumé Demi-Glace or Fillet of Wild Boar braised in Cognac, Sugar poached New Potatoes With roast Chestnuts and Salsify and you'll know that this isn't your typical pie-and-mash pub. Tables are separated into several rooms for a cosy feel to each group. There are rooms for hire, too, each fancy with four-poster beds and some with sea views. It's a worthwhile special treat stop along a beautiful coastal drive.

Yelp
Celebrated my birthday here with the best and biggest fish and chips. Window table looking out at the harbour. Great atmosphere with friendly staff and lots of happy customers. Short walk back to our B&B in a lovely seaside town. There is a restaurant too and the menu is good and interesting, including lobster but the fish and chips served in the bar were the best choice!

Yelp
We didn't stay here, but made a day trip, and had lunch in the restaurant. The hotel dates to the 14th century (stuff around here is really old) and looks charming, but this review is about the food, which was outstanding. We had smoked mackerel and crabmeat sandwiches, both with homemade parsnip chips, which were amazing. Definite thumbs up!

Yelp
This is an amazing pub! It's really traditional and picturesqe - right on the harbour front in Lynmouth. The town itself is great as a base for a weekend away and the pub is by far the best in the village for spending the evening. The food is typical gournet pub prices but it's really good quality and the bar staff are really friendly. We went there for New Year last year and it was a fab night! Thoroughly recommend to anyone in the area!

Yelp
I have eaten here a couple of times recently and the food had been excellent on both occasions. The fairly local Exmoor ales are pretty good as well. the position of the pub, on a very old hill terrace overlooking Lynmouth harbour is as good as it gets. So far,so good. Unfortunately, there are a couple of negatives. Firstly, the food and drink is on the high side of average. Secondly, when full the pub gets a little claustrophobic, especially if you are trying top eat. Then there is the curate's egg service, varying from the quite friendly to the cold and distant. All in all, worth it for the food and drink but there are better places in North Devon.

Yelp
a hidden gem in a very beautiful location. not only the pub is a great place to stay and see the tide coming in. but the restaurant is just amazing. we were lucky to get the last table and had a wunderful seafood feast. starter was a shared fish and shellfish platter with home baked bread that would have been enough for both of us. awesome salmon great mackerel and lost of other delights. but all that was nothing against the fresh lobster that was caught in viewing distance - over crusted with a bit of cheese and served with potatoes as small and tasteful as truffles. wonderful. sadly enough we were all fed up and could only manage a shared dessert. but we will come again for sure!
