On the Grid : The Ritz

"Sumptuous interiors with lashings of gold leaf filigree, ornate carpets in swirls of green and pink, and incomparable stucco work, this fine dining institution is a wonder of perfectly harmonised parts. From the incredible kitchen to the intricate dance of waiters in the main dining room, all is expertly synchronised by maestro head chef John Williams. Old world grandeur certainly, but also a century ahead in the careful sourcing of ingredients and a champion of seasonality." - dn&co.

If you want a great local experience, then this is your place. The staff are polite, friendly and helpful. There is some lovely banter between staff and regular locals. The food is excellent and very well priced. We loved it and will be back.

Cash only. Exactly what I wanted from a greasy spoon. Food was tasty, fresh and excellent. Took my father here as he was visiting and loved it. Super friendly & great environment.

Had breakfast at The Ritz Café this morning and it was fantastic. Everything was super tasty and fresh—you can tell a lot of care goes into the food. The place is spotless, including the kitchen. Great atmosphere, friendly staff. Definitely coming back!

What a breakfast! authentic and genuine English breakfast, very good quality and amazing price. Less then a 10 pounds for a English breakfast and a coffee. Really good bacon and sausages. Really recommend

Wonderful allergy communication. The server clearly understood allergies and ensured my breakfast was safe and free from any possible contamination with nuts and peanuts. The breakfast itself was delicious, and the tea was spot-on. Just what the doctor ordered. I will gladly return when I'm next in Hammersmith and in need of the perfect fry-up, thank you.

Google
One of the best English breakfast places in London and some of the most authentic ones I have been to. Ab-fab!

Yelp
This place is actually "The Ritz Cafe" and is a neighborhood diner-type restaurant. NOT THE SAME as "The Ritz Restaurant", which you find at the expensive fancy hotel named "The Ritz" in Piccadilly and serves afternoon tea. The pics and reviews posted by some people are for the highbrow place, not this cafe. Future people reading these reviews will get confused. Here's the correct entry for the afternoon tea and restaurant in Piccadilly: https://www.yelp.com/biz/the-ritz-restaurant-london-2

Yelp
Great breakfast place. Staying in Ravenscourt for a few days and wanted a local spot to go for breakie.. this place is great! Going to go back again. £7.50 for full breakfast and a great coffee with frothy milk. Perfect!

Yelp
Old, established. Excellent greasy spoon food. Fast friendly, popular, great atmosphere.

Yelp
Comfort food in uncomfortable times. A greasy spoon diner in the best kind of way. Breakfast and lunch. Open except for Sundays. Generous portions.

Yelp
My boyfriend took me here for my birthday. We got the champagne tea. The tea, sandwiches, and cakes were all amazing!!! As an American it was a lot of fun getting to do the full English tea. The entire room was absolutely beautiful and the string quartet was even playing songs from "oklahoma!" (which I got a real kick out of). I had such a blast at this place. Never before have finger sandwiches tasted so tasty. The service was great. My boyfriend and I were, however, reminded of Inglorious Bastards when we were there. We would have been the ones giggling in the corner. If you go, make sure to use the bathrooms before you leave. They are, in and of themselves, pretty impressive.

Yelp
This restaurant is perfect for high tea. I've been on several occasions and each time it was very enjoyable! I would highly recommend this to anyone!

Yelp
Family run place, has been there for years. Harry enfield and other shows have been filmed in here. Mega portions and always busy no matter what time you go. Best cup of tea in london.

Yelp
The girl in the previous review is obviously talking about somewhere else. Champaign? Cakes? Band? More tea and coffee and greasy food! Not bathrooms at all!

Yelp
Really is 5* Amazing interior. Fantastic food! We took advantage of a promotion - £40 for 3 courses. We got sweets at the end too. Chestnut Souflee and rum ice cream was amazing!

Yelp
What can I say about a place that is perfect, coffee was lush, and the food was fantastic, hot and tasty, and it fills the gap when you hungry

Yelp
We had terrible service at The Ritz. They kept us to-ing and fro-ing for half an hour about our reservation before taking us to the bar to wait, then realising we had a young person with us, telling us that actually we couldn't wait in the bar and should instead stand and wait in the lobby area. For the amount of money being spent on this day, the mishandling by staff really sucked the joy out of it. Of course I have to give it two stars because the interior room is beautiful and the food/drink is of a high standard. But if you are looking for a traditional English, genteel experience of afternoon tea that this establishment was once famed for, look elsewhere. The high standards once maintained at The Ritz are no longer, owing to the influx of foreign, poorly trained staff. For a similar price and the sort of experience one might have hoped for at the Ritz, I would recommend The Savoy any day of the week. The Waldorf in Aldwych is less expensive but still a beautiful experience where staff cannot do enough for you. However, in my opinion, the best afternoon tea in the UK can be found at Betty's Tea Rooms in Harrogate - well worth the visit to Yorkshire if you're travelling from abroad or just want a lovely day out.
