Yelp
Geneva is a place of luxury, with countless five star hotels lining the lake promenade and many, many options. The Ritz is a very respectable option among those, although not the oldest by any means. I can't say that this is an over the top property in the five star range (which most St Regis are), but it is a solid contender for its place.
As a Marriott Ambassador elite, the benefits provided by the chain are limited and the hotel does little to compensate for that on their own. There is no breakfast included, upgrades to suite were politely declined despite having availability and there is a general feeling of being like many other guests. The first mishap happened when coming in with luggage, there was nobody at the door to help drag multiple suitcases up a flight of stairs. A very non-5 Star beginning in other words. Checkin is pleasantly done while sitting in cozy chairs, being provided chocolates for tasting, in a beautiful and grand lobby. The elevators are part of the experience, a modified and luxified version of European cage elevator.
We were upgraded to a an Lake Front Premium View Room which was quite nice, but I was surprised that it was considered an upgrade. I am terrified to know what the regular rooms look like. The balcony was not really a balcony either, more of French doors with a slight indent. It was a very nicely appointed room, fresh and with a very interesting design that combined the theme of travel, with hotel's traditional elements and contemporary touches. Excellent hot shower and a good size bathroom.
The service throughout was very good. Turndown service was performed every night. The restaurant service was excellent. Front desk was always well staffed and helpful.
I think overall, this is a great property and likely represents one of the better Ritz hotels around the world. The benefits for Elites are quite limited and that's perhaps the most disappointing thing about Ritz hotels in general and a reason that I don't prefer to stay at them often.
