Everything you expect in a Ritz property!
We took a family holiday to Istanbul and decided booked the Ritz for Christmas for a few nights and it did not disappoint!!
Since we had my mother and son with us this time around, I requested for some type of special trimmings in the rooms in a holiday theme and they did have that for my mother and our son's room, but somehow missed it for our room (no big deal). Their room was adorned with rose petals and heart shaped balloons, the bed had 2 handwritten cards greeting them, a beautiful holly berry bouquet, a Turkish coffee brewing set, Turkish delight, fruit, etc. The rooms were beautiful with large balconies overlooking Maçka park with a partial Bosphorus view. This would've been a 5 star review if the shower in my mother's room hadn't had a raw sewage smell that even after having been attended to by housekeeping staff on 2 occasions, did not resolve. Please avoid room 205 if you can. We were not offered the chance to change rooms and did not seek it since our room was right nextdoor and we didn't really want to be moved especially since they decorated the room, etc. Luckily there is a hand shower in the bathtub, however the smell is really horrible and is present in the whole restroom. Our room was beautiful and I have to say the Ritz beds and bedding are a DREAM. Such great sleep. Housekeeping staff is wonderful and really spoil you! They love to get to know you and really go the extra mile to make you feel like you're royalty.
The hotel itself is very nice, but is quite inconveniently located within a type of major roundabout of sorts.. not really a highway but if you know Istanbul, it would kind of count as one. Vodafone park is right across this major street. The traffic here is horrific (not unlike the rest of Istanbul, but the "roundabout" makes it even worse) so it is difficult to get a taxi from here and walking is possible to places like Nişantaşı and more accessible areas to get a taxi, but as I said, it's kind of like a highway where you may have to cross 4 lanes without a walk sign LOL.. hope you know how to play frogger. If you can manage that, it's only a 15 min walk or so to Nişantaşı. We walked to the Swissôtel in maybe 14 min one night.
Restaurants here are so so good! The breakfast here is the best hotel breakfast in Istanbul we've had thus far! Beautiful view of the Bosphorus, wide selection of foods, and real pork bacon, lol. If you've been to Istanbul, you know it's a rare thing to find (understandably of course). One morning, i was looking for kiwi at the fruit station and they didn't have any out, but the lovely server brought me a beautiful heart shaped plate of kiwi, golden berries, lingonberries, etc. If that isn't spectacular service, Idk what is! Vakko Atelier is a French bistro and patisserie and the food here is delicious. The desserts are super cute and the best we've had in Istanbul. Nobu here is great (but sadly not cheaper than any other Nobu lol), we had a perfect Christmas dinner there and it didn't disappoint! They even had holiday themed desserts, lol. Great service, as well. They're located in the hotel, but not connected to the hotel, so you have to call Nobu directly to manage reservations.
Really only docked 1 star because of the ghastly sewage smell in room 205 and the super inconvenient location.
