The Best Hotels in the World: 2024 Readers’ Choice Awards

"When booking a stay down under, why not go to the very top? The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne is Australia’s tallest hotel, housed in the top 17 floors of its 80-story building. The hotel’s unprecedented vantage point envelops guests in panoramic views of the city and the ocean lapping at Port Phillip Bay. If you find the views hard to pull away from, in-house restaurant Atria helmed by renowned chef Michael Greenlaw serves a seasonal five-course tasting menu for dinner showcasing modern Australian cuisine at its freshest with seats right at the window. And when you settle in for the night, the canvas of the neutrals dotted with warm maroons and deep navies pairs well with golden-framed windows encasing each guest room. With door-to-door valets and a Ritz-Kids program where storytimes bring local Australian culture to life, the standard of service is as sky-high as the rooms." - CNT Editors

The Ritz Carlton Melbourne is a stunning hotel: sleek and modern, yet still cozy and comfortable. Perched high above the city, the views are extraordinary. My Panoramic Guest Room was spacious, thoughtfully designed, and spotless, with a walk-in closet, marble bathroom and a bed that made it hard to leave. Any property that stocks Billecart Salmon champagne in the minibar earns extra points in my book.||Cameo, the bar, had excellent cocktails, but the restaurant Atria didn’t match the same standard. The tasting menu felt disjointed and the service flustered. In the end, it didn’t matter much in my opinion. In a city with world class dining nearby, just skipping Atria is no loss. The pool and spa were also highlights, especially the sauna with views over Melbourne.||Overall it was a memorable stay and one I would easily recommend.

Phenomenal stay at the Ritz Carlton! Staff were extremely professional from the moment of check in, house keeping was fantastic. We had briefly turned on our privacy mode in the middle of the day and they reached out via e-mail to check if we wanted them to come back before end of the day. The views were beautiful from all angles, the lobby at the top floor and the rooms below it. They provided a special treat and note for a birthday celebration which was a great touch and highly appreciated! The pool was warm, best for lounging, great infinity pool views over the city. Extremely convenient from the airport, quick walk from Southern Cross station which has a direct bus via SkyBus.

We celebrated my daughter’s 3rd birthday at The Ritz-Carlton Melbourne and everything was perfect. The panoramic king room was so beautiful with stunning views. She loved the pool, and we had a wonderful dinner at Atria. Thank you to all the ladies and gentlemen for making our stay so special. Highly recommend!

Stay at many RC’s and this is just as good any. Great for Melbourne as most hotels are very dated. Great views, good bathrooms and comfortable beds. Rooms are well sized. Housekeeping fantastic! All staff really friendly in general. Breakfast was good, not a huge amount of options but everything was high quality and fresh. Valet was great, always very friendly and quick, no matter how busy the hotel was. Would definitely stay again.

My stay at the Ritz-Carlton was certainly beyond expectations. The hotel boasts stunning 360 degree views of the whole city of Melbourne, complimented with glamorous yet modern architecture and design. My room, (a corner premier double room) was spacious and well equipped. The facilities of the hotel are excellent, featuring a comprehensive gym, stunning (but less practical) pool, and well appointed changing and spa facilities. Service was generally good, with the only drawback being the doormen and concierge, who never helped us with luggage, nor showed us the way to the lobby, and occasionally didn’t greet us at all. This level of service was extremely disappointing and outshined by even some premium hotels I have stayed at. However, this was compensated by the extremely attentive and proactive lobby, restaurant, and housekeeping staff. In particular, a staff member who was usually positioned outside the elevators (upstairs and downstairs), frequently greeted us by name and assisted any queries thoroughly. Her attitude and professionalism was truly what made up for the generally excellent service received from the hotel. Dining was as expected, with breakfast being above average, featuring a semi-buffet service, which complimented the ordered main dishes sublimely. The in room dining menu was comprehensive, and overall quality of food was great, although portions were small even for a hotel of this calibre. Overall, my stay at The Ritz-Carlton Melbourne was enjoyable, and I would happily return if the opportunity came.

We love this Ritz Resort in the Sky! Our third visit for week-end getaways with another booked in August. As Elite members we were warmly welcomed at Reception by Sarah & Exec Asst Manager Laurent which set the vibe for our stay. Our room spacious and luxurious with excellent views of Melbourne city and shorefront, daily breakfast was delicious and service bright and friendly (which is what you need in the morning). The hotel was busy with a Wedding Expo but staff ensured we had a table in all the outlets when needed. Cameo was buzzing, service was slick and cocktails excellently crafted. Atria for dinner was sublime, a memorable meal...the food superb, the service polished, warm and attentive with excellent wines recommended by the Sommelier....a must do! Since our first visit we have noticed the fine tuning of service from the whole team and hope this continues in line with what is expected from a hotel of this calibre. With visits to the pool and and spa between theatre shows and Chinatown we always felt refreshed and relaxed during our stay. We have committed to spend even more time in the hotel on our next visit in August to soak up the luxury resort vibes! Many thanks for making our stay memorable!

The highlight of my stay at The Ritz-Carlton Melbourne was undoubtedly the spectacular city view — truly mesmerising and a memory to cherish. The room was elegant and well-maintained, though I wish there was more closet space, as I prefer unpacking over living out of a suitcase. Breakfast was good in quality but lacked variety, especially noticeable during longer stays. Service at breakfast felt a bit disconnected — no follow-ups or proactive attention, and I had to search for staff for simple requests like an extra coffee. On the positive side, housekeeping was excellent, always responsive and polite. And the lobby staff greeted guests with genuine smiles, which was a lovely touch. Overall, a beautiful property with stunning views and great potential — just needs a bit more warmth in guest service to match the luxury label.

The Ritz Carlton Melbourne was an amazing stay. Perched high above the city, it offers breathtaking views of the Melbourne skyline. The room was spacious, clean, and provided the perfect comfort after a busy day on a business trip.||The only drawback is the lift system — it requires taking two lifts to reach the ground floor, and three if attending a conference within the hotel.||Overall, a wonderful experience and a hotel I’d gladly return to.
