Puerto Rico's Dorado Beach Is a Bit of Bali, Three Hours from Home

"The resort's five-acre Spa Botánico. Enter under a multi-limbed Banyan tree, where a grand apothecary is stacked with local botanicals for health, beauty, and culinary use. Book a treatment in one of two open-air treehouses, followed by a moment or two in the Purification Gardens for warm and cool pools, waterfall showers, and steam pavilions."

Beautiful facilities and outstanding service. I received the best massage I’ve ever gotten from Carlos and our attendant Jose was very welcoming and friendly. I can’t recommend it enough!

Google
The grounds are absolutely beautiful and our massages were wonderful. Javier has great hands and he delivered a much needed deep tissue massage. Lucy gave my husband one of the best massages he has ever had! I like the foot scrub before the massage too. Nice touch. I wanted to give Botánico five stars but there were some issues. It’s hard to find. Waze guided us to the wrong entrance. We were able to find the correct entrance and there were few signs guide us to the spa. The signs were also very small. Once we were in the vicinity, it was unclear where to park. We asked a guard who told us where to park and said to come back to him and he would direct us. He directed us to a ballroom, not the spa! Despite the detour we arrived. The spa has a beautiful entrance with a gigantic ancestral-looking tree shading the stairway and entrance. The staff was gracious and served a yummy herbal iced tea while we waited to be taken to our massage room. The showers, relaxation room and locker room have everything you could need. The biggest fail, however, is the lack of people when you need them. It’s difficult to find staff if you want something or have an issue. When the cool dip pool step broke when I stepped on it, there was no one around to tell. Luckily, I was holding on to the rail otherwise I would have fallen and hit my head on a rock like surface! The staff person I told asked if I was okay and I told her I was, however, no management came to check on me. I will have a bruise on my foot from the impact but overall I am okay. The service people we interacted with were great, however, for a large resort it’s staffed as if it’s a small resort. The food took an hour and 15 minutes to arrive. We were told 45-60 minutes. If we go again, we will know how to get there and what to expect. I think we had high expectations because it is the Ritz Carlton but the overall experience was mediocre at best, unsafe at worst.

The resort is beautiful I tried calling several Times and left messages with the staff to receive a call back from the spa, and unfortunately no one got back to me. I had to go in person to schedule an appointment. The staff was friendly. The massage was nice. Used their sauna. And walked around their property. There are mango trees in the back as well as mini pineapple plants growing. I would recommend

This place feels sacred. GO. The tree house massage was magical.

My husband and I came here to celebrate our honeymoon and six year anniversary. The experience was amazing. It has been a long time since I felt this relax. Lucy was my masseuse and she did a great job of loosening the knots on my shoulder. Daphne was my husband's and helped me reach my goal in finding the perfect mango to eat from their garden while sharing the history and upcoming couples treehouse massage. Shannon reminded us of the facilities that we were able to use after the massage, so thankful because I took full advantage of them, and she gave a great recommendation for dinner. Perfect closure was having Mara escort us to the dinner location so we wouldn't get lost. Strongly recommend here. - The Garcias

I don’t have the vocabulary to describe our exceptional experience at this spa. I am back home now googling for a comparable spa for our next vacation because we can’t keep coming back to Dorado beach from Canada for the Spa right? Not that the resort wasn’t great but we would like to try different destinations. Anyway about the Spa, from the massive tree before the entrance through to the open relaxation area, then the private male or female area with pool, cold plunge, sauna, indoor relaxation area & dressing rooms to the private oasis were we experienced our couples tamarind bodyscrub and massage….everything felt like a world class experience. I’ll never see a spa the same way again! Tips: If you have a service booked get there an hour early then plan to stay later. I should have planned to spend about 4 hours total but we had other thing booked which we almost canceled. You don’t need to have a service booked to use the spa, you can pay to enjoy the facility.

Google
Absolutely stunning spa, it's more than the nice massage itself which you can get anywhere else. The grounds are reminiscent of an ancient villa, with separate men and women's sections. You can be as clothed or unclothed as you like. I sat in the hot pool and rotated between that, the cold plunge pool and the steam room. There is also a very nice air conditioned relaxation room. See pictures for more details. The standard massage was fairly Swedish. They gave it a Spanish name but it wasn't that different from anything else I have experienced. Very nice staff and I felt relaxed and rejuvenated! DEFINITELY GET THERE AN HOUR EARLY AND STAY LATE so you can enjoy the grounds and the experience. This is not a rush in and out to get your massage kind of place. Make it an unrushed experience and you won't regret it.

The Ritz is the ritz. Here’s my opinion: - You can’t beat the ritz. It’s a 10/10 every time you go - Service is always top notch - amenities are always great quality and plentiful - The property is beautiful Here are my considerations, for folks who frequent Marriott properties: For context, during my 3 night stay in Puerto Rico, I did one night at the Marriott Casino, one night at the St Regis, and our last night at the Ritz Reserve. By and large, if I came again, I’d probably lean towards the St. Regis. As the name suggests, the service / hospitality / amenities / etc. are 12/10, which should come as no surprise. Where it edges out over the reserve, is that if you have status with Marriott (we have Ambassador), you get a better bang for your buck with the St Regis in the way of upgrades The ritz reserve being somewhat of a hot commodity, it’s a little more difficult to flex or get any recognition for your status (given they are 1 of 7) Here’s my advice: If you’ve never spent the night at the ritz reserve, do it. It’s worth the experience for certain. But don’t sleep on the St. Regis either Both have exceptional resorts that are perfect for relaxation.

Yelp
This place was amazing. My expectations for a first time to PR were mixed. Titanium status Marriott and partial to Ritz locations but my first time at a Ritz Reserve. I cannot wait to come back. We loved the peace, the quiet, the pool, the variety of stellar restaurants and food, the level of service, and the warm plunge pool on the private patio outside our room. It literally was a perfect stay. Highly recommend. And next time I come back we won't leave the hotel at all. It's that amazing.

Yelp
Fantastic resort. I thought the restaurant options were great and staff incredibly well trained. Also fantastic pools and great ocean front. My only annoyances were the resort fee, which felt really inappropriate at a resort (like a petrol station charging a fee for allowing someone to pump petrol). Related, the surcharge for using the cabanas at the pool and ocean side also felt excessive and it was embarrassing watching families put in a difficult position of having to decline the fee in front of their children. If there was no resort fee (or even if it was part of the room charge) would definitely have been 5 out of 5.

Yelp
When you are greeted by your ambassador it is clear you are not at a "normal resort". This property is about personalized service and taking care of their guests. They will arrange transportation to and from whatever activity you want. With traffic, it is 45 min from San Juan. We stayed in an ocean view king with plunge pool. There is a private indoor shower, and a private outdoor shower. Each 1st floor room has direct beach access and are spaced far enough apart to make it feel like a private beach. The pools at each end provide full service to the beach area. The west pool was closed for maintenance. The fully staffed east pool has multiple levels, great views and excellent attendants. The TPC Dorado is a few minutes away. The ambassador will arrange for transportation in a golf cart. Very punctual and easy to arrange. If they know your tee time, they are waiting as you walk out of your room. Clubs on cart, ready to go. If you are playing the East course, ask for Jerry to be your fore-caddy. You will not regret it. Many activities are included in the resort fee. I highly recommend the rum tasting in the library/business center. The food was excellent at every restaurant. The staff was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Numerous choices with unique infusions. We have been to PR several times. The Waldorf El Conquistador is a distant second to this property. We will return. Hopefully for a longer stay.

Yelp
We are fortunate to have been able to experience remarkable travel destinations but few can compete with the luxury of the Dorado Beach club. The views are unreal, the room is perfection. I'm writing this review from our plunge pool getting ready to head to the private beach. The food is 5 star but above all else, the staff. Genuinely amazing people and hands-down some of the best service I've had. Highly recommend this to lovers or a great place to bring the kids.

Yelp
This is a beautiful place, but the people who work here make it spectacular. Generosity and kindness in abundance have been liberally bestowed upon my family this week by the staff here while we have been on a dream vacation. It has been such a blessing to be here and be treated with such genuine hospitality. I pray everyone here is treated as well as they have treated us. The memories we made here with these wonderful people will stay with us.

Yelp
Gorgeous, gorgeous beach and beautiful, well appointed rooms. Carefully curated environments all around. Terrible housekeeping and mediocre staff. The housekeeping staff unpacked our luggage without our permission and spilled a bottle of tinted sunscreen on our clothes and didn't tell us. The manager did offer to launder the stained clothes but all the stains did not come out and, when we checked out, we saw we were billed in full for the laundering services despite the fact the staff stained our clothes, necessitating the service in the first place. The staff is either excellent or checked out. It's inconsistent. The surcharges and resort fees add up and all our friends who have stayed here, and us, always double check the bill on check out because none of us has ever had a correct bill - we are always over charged. The gym isn't in good repair, either. Then again, the pools are great. It's whether the inconsistent service is worth it for the price. The spa was similarly beautiful but without the corresponding service. My friend and I booked treehouse massages. When we arrived, we were told not to wear clothes because the men and women had separate areas. I would have liked a swimsuit and then ran into a man who had accidentally wandered into the women's pool. Awkward and why did no staffer stop him?! The tree houses are open to the air so people can see you as you undress and staff - men and women - are driving around and pruning the trees and gardening all around and shouting to one another and laughing so not only is there no privacy, it is also loud and not relaxing. It's a gorgeous spa. It just needs better training for the staff. A lot better training.

Yelp
We had a girlfriends outing at the spa while on a stay. This was great that the spa could accommodate 4 guests at around the same time for 120 minute sessions. I had the hair and scalp renewal and the foot and leg massages. Both technicians were excellent at the trade. The botanical products are very specific to Puerto Rico- which make it unique to the spa experience. The rooms are indoor and outdoor with many having baths and water therapy functionality. This is a must experience if you are spending time at the Ritz Reserve property. Make sure to allow extra time for the relaxation room ( house made granola bars are the best!) and the tranquility pool- clothing optional. The best yet!

Yelp

Yelp
My new favorite place and I've traveled to some very nice hotels. The staff goes above and beyond, you are treated like royalty, every small detail is thought of and executed on, the property is beyond stunning, the food is great, and it is truly worth the price. Trent was a stand out and went above and beyond for us, but every single person we encountered was kind and worked hard to ensure we had the best stay possible. My only complaint is how hard it was to leave this property and go back to real life. Cannot wait to come back!

Larry W.

Yelp
Expect to be wowed! This was an amazing experience and you won't be disappointed by choosing this location for unwinding and relaxation. The customer service is second to none and the views are even better. There is no reason to leave the property since everything that you need is there, including amazing dining. You will pay for this luxury but you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
My man & I wanted to so badly love this place. From the hosts, servers, & COA/Flor DeSeil restaurants were some of the most memorable moments of this experience. The layout of the grounds is very nice, it gives nothing less of luxury. However, on our departure date is where things went took a terrible turn. First of all, we were told by Alejondra at the front desk that we had an extra day on our stay vs our set departure date. We were genuinely confused. Not sure who what where why or how, yet, we were told this. We asked this young lady NUMEROUS times was she sure of this & every time we got a yes. COOL. We decided to just go back to the room and wait it out, I was so adamant that there had to have been some mistake, while my man was like just be calm, yet, turns out there was a mistake. This mistake was NOT on our part, but someone at the front desk, the spa, &/or one of the RSVP attendants. Continuing on, as we were waiting around lost, we received a call from Karla (one of the front desk attendants) stating that (a woman - no name was ever given btw) that we, extended our stay for one more day from the spa and that we needed to come out of pocket an extra $1,1000. We did no spa accommodations on our departure date, that doesn't even make sense to do, we never called anyone from the spa, we had been asleep the entire morning up until it was time to get ready to leave. We were never given a name of said woman that made that extension call and were treated as if we were at fault. We were greeted by the Manager on site, Elliot, who was acting as if he *genuinely* cared about rectifying the situation but only interrogated us & offered a 25% discount on the room, but we went for 50%. Elliot also claimed that he had to speak to his IT department and that it would take approximately 25/30 minutes, however it took well over an hour, when he finally returned with an update. There was no official update, as he stated there had been numerous calls within the spa so it would take some time to investigate, yet was adamant that our flight was not his fault which was completely irrelevant as we had already made accommodations for the next day since yes, we missed it because someone on your team made a mistake. Through the the night we had not heard anything about the situation or the person who made the extension call, but they were hounding my man for the extra taxes and fees they charge! Lastly, with the 50% off - it was not honored. We were charged $450 dollars for the 9th, only to be charged $550 at checkout. So we paid full price for a room and at the very least did not get to enjoy the amenities of the resort because of Elliot's inconvenience, incompetent staff, & inconsideration of others time. The confusion, miscommunication, & mistake on their part caused us to miss our flight, missed majority of our day as we were set to leave from the get-go, and us to miss work the following day. I also called Ritz Carlton's complaint line, well atleast I thought I may have and spoke with a Taylor on August 10th at 11:54am in PR at the time on my way to the airport. My case number is/was 481175418 (because I havent heard anything back AT ALL and was told it would take approximately 3-5 business days which it has been well over.) This situation has caused more harm than good for us with the extra stay and flight rebooking. We will never revisit this property as it is overpriced, expensive, they nickel & dime you for everything as you have already paid 15k+ for your stay alone. The pool closes at 7 which is absurd, you have those that prefer a night swim - at least have it open til midnight? Atleast? We will never return. I get it its the Ritz our thousands, "wont matter," bc you get millionaires that come - however, its the principle with us. We came and spent our hard earned $ just like anybody else to be treated less than actual guests who stayed an entire week. Despite this hassle, Nestor & Peter from COA are exceptional. They were very sweet to us and we would love to see them prosper. Angel & Kevin the Embajador & Angel from the library with the rum tasting was also very welcoming and sweet!

Yelp
Fantastic. Beautiful rooms, facilities and a great staff. The beach is awesome with a lagoon so the waves are small. The food is good but pricey. To be expected. This is definitely one of the best beach resorts in the Caribbean.

Yelp
What. Can. I. Say! If you want to be swept away into a five star paradise, then this is your resort! It is beautiful! First class from The moment you pull up to the private guard gate. When you pull into lobby the reception is exceptional! You have your own personal butler. Five star restaurants both upscale and casual. Breathtaking beach views Tons of activities on resort Water park for kids Warm water in the beach and pool Bikes for trails Best spa in the world! Pure luxury! Worth every dime! We are returning!

Yelp
This resort is stunning! I visited to dine at their ocean front restaurant Coa. Upon arrival you check in with the front gate. They grant you access to the resort. The location is a preserve so there is ambient lighting that adds a layer of intrigue, romanticism, and allure to the property. After arriving at the valet, there is a brief walk to the restaurant which allows you to truly take on the beauty and design. Coa is just as stunning as the pictures and the service was incredible. Our waiter actually worked with the chef to create a special meal for me that was hearty and delicious chicken based dish with root veggies. The drinks were tasty and the desert assortment platter was memorable I would definitely recommend!

Yelp
10 STARS! My fiance / wife and I stayed here in early August of 2020 and we just can't say enough about how amazing this resort experience was for us. The short version is that this hidden gem (1 of 4 in the world) was so over-the-top beautiful and romantic that my fiance and I decided to extend our stay and get married here!! The longer version is below... About the resort itself, much of it is open air from the reception area to the restaurants to the rooms themselves. During our stay we took advantage of the boutique shops, library, Spa (where we got married), the outdoor restaurant "Positivo" (the nicest people you will ever meet), the beach, and the complimentary bikes for exploring the property. The pools looked absolutely refreshing and inviting, but sadly were closed to guests because of COVID. This wasn't an issue however as our room came with its own private pool. We stayed in one of the ground floor suites (approx ~1200 sq ft) which included 1.5 baths, dual vanity sink, a large soaking tub, and an indoor and outdoor shower. The oversized living room included an L-Shaped couch, a personal desk space, a wet bar w/mini fridge, and a dining room table. The bedroom itself was very large with a corner sitting area, a walk-in closet, and a separate dressing area. Both the living room and bedroom came equipped with plenty of storage and oversized pocket doors leading right out to the covered outdoor patio. The patio included a large dining table and a couple of lounge chairs. From the patio is the private in ground infinity pool measuring the entire width of the unit making it perfect for two people to swim laps and float around without bumping into each other. From the pool was a large green space for lounging and laying out. From the green space was our sandy pathway leading directly out to the beach and beautiful blue ocean water (no more than 20 steps). In all honesty, we rarely felt the need to leave our "mini-apt" as everything you'd expect or want was right there for us (private pool, beach, view, etc.). Plus, each guest is assigned an Embajador who makes it their mission to ensure everything you need is taken care of. Even if you haven't thought about something, he or she will take care of it for you!! We want to give a HUGE shout out to the resort staff who, without question, went above and beyond to make our stay and impromptu wedding ceremony extremely effortless and special. Tara was our wedding coordinator who facilitated all of the logistics and details from scouting locations on property, finding our professional photographer and officiant, and was even gracious enough to record our ceremony live at the Spa Botanico so we could stream it to all of our close family and friends back on the mainland. If you're looking to plan an event on property, seek out Tara! She is the best! Miguel was our Embajador who just stood out to us and was extremely professional, warm, and thorough. His attentiveness to us throughout our stay made us feel like we had absolutely nothing to worry about. If you can, request Miguel and I guarantee you won't regret it. And last, but not least, Marlon, Arelis, and Pepe are THE MOST INCREDIBLE people you will ever meet. They are part of the incredible Positivo restaurant team who showed us every day what a 10 star Ritz-Carlton-Reserve experience is all about. We can not thank them enough for everything they did to go out of their way to ensure we were taken care of and for going above and beyond is making our wedding ceremony (before, during, and after) just so incredibly unforgettable. We are truly grateful for their warm and generous hospitality. PLEASE ask for them during your dining experience at the restaurant! We cannot wait to get back and visit the property and see everyone again. We LOVE IT HERE!

Yelp
Checking to see if this place still exists after that crazy hurricane. This place was amazing!!!! The service was impeccable. They do everything for you. The room with the infinity pool overlooking the ocean and the outdoor shower so you feel one with nature.,, so many good memories. The bill for most of our meals were somewhere from $200-$400 or so, the times we checked since it was on company's tab and it wasn't out of this world food, especially not the HilaryClinton-knows-the-chef type. The best part were the drinks, and boy did we try all the drinks since we were thirsty in the hot humid weather of San Juan. Had about a dozen pina colatas in a day (def recommend that). Their golf carts were amazing to ride around in. I became a pro by the end of it. Not sure if they allow people to do so since we were the only ones with our own after a game of golf. But they never say no. Actually they do; when you ask them if you can take their yummy lemony lotion with. They should sell that!!! I love citrus, so their body wash/ lotion were all scented perfectly. It's the little things. Would definetly go back again if someone would pay for our trip. Audi... how we miss you so.

Yelp
Although the grounds at the Dorado are beautiful and picturesque, the service as well as consistently are in need of help. I stayed here over three weeks so trust me this review is legit. Let's start with the property itself. It's beautiful and very large. So large in fact it's easy to take a wrong turn and end up way off course. Not necessarily a bad thing sometimes. The resorts rooms are nice as well but not what I'd expect for the hefty price tag that comes with it. Room service is not only very expensive and slow, but the food itself is marginal at best. That's actually one of my biggest complaints about my entire stay. Bad food and not the least bit of consistency. I'm attaching a picture of a piece of salmon and salad I ordered from room service. It was terrible. Cold, tiny, no seasoning and over $40!! Housekeeping did a great job but was also very inconsistent. They would come too early, too late, never at the time I requested and quite often knock on my door when the "do not disturb " sign was on. Just not quite the five star resort get away I would expect :(

Yelp
We stayed 4 lovely evenings. Our room was beautiful with a marvelous outdoor shower (and indoor) as well as a big bathtub and a comfortable bed with ridiculously soft pillows. The views were INCREDIBLE and we had a plunge pool outside. We could walk to the beach. We had Javier as our primary Ambassador and he was a doll, really sweet. Jimmy, Noel and I believe Jose were our other ambassadors. I have had no time to yelp yet and I am so so behind so let me list it: Pluses: 1. GORGEOUS 2. great rooms, great views. 3. Food was okay, we really disliked the restaurant they kept pushing but enjoyed going out of the facility and also the restaurant by the windsurfers 4. The spa is amazing! 5. Excellent service! 6. Delicious beds. Minuses: 1. Hard to get anywhere - they have deals with transport that make any kind of taxi exorbitant. I highly recommend getting your own car or having a local you know take you about. 2. Floors sweat, I fell, HARD. keep your slippers on at all times. 3. We accidentally got locked IN our room overnight one night. 4. Restaurants on the resort are okay but cost prohibitive and not all that. All that said, I would go back tomorrow!

The resort was beautiful!!! But the service and food wasn't all that great. Would possibly think about going again

Yelp
A must do in Puerto Rico! There are less than 5 reserves in the world and the best is on Puerto Rico! Exceptional service and attention to every need, every detail! Amazing 10 star worthy!

Yelp
What and incredible, Unbelievable, breathtaking, gorgeous resort! This might be one of my top 3 resorts to stay at. The service, amenities, ambience, rooms, food and hospitality are superb. The resort is massive, boasting gorgeous golf courses, state of the art decor, landscape, pools and beaches. They provide guests with bicycles to get around the property as well as golf carts. The Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Every single one of them literally go went out of their way to make you feel welcome and at home. Rooms/ suites are insane!!! Very Spacious and well designed. Rooms are gorgeous, and fully equipped with awesome amenities. My favorite the outdoor private infinity pool and private beach literally few feet away from the room. The bathrooms are huge with all the possible amenities you can imagine, huge bath tub indoor and outdoor showers, double sinks, large walk in closet and more. The spa is incredible, and I recommend anyone staying to get one of their services. I had a 90 min coffee scrub and massage and it was out of this world. The spa is gorgeous and amenities top notch: sauna, hot and cold jet pools, outdoor showers, relaxation room. Best part of the service is the services are done in small private small villas with a massage room and outdoor garden. Restaurants and all the food outlets were really good. Truly enjoyed all my meals.. my only problem with the food was the price of the salad menu items. I have never in my life spent so much on a salads. never ever have I seen $14-16 up charge for grilled chicken!!!!. Ended up spending $30+ on a simple salad. Don't get me wrong I'm not cheap by any means but that's ridiculous. Other then that good and service was great. Overall remarkable experience I can't wait to come back.

Yelp
This stay was absolutely horrible i came last month paid a fortune and decided to come back this month but bring people with me. In these 2 visits i have spent $18,000 yes $18,000. I upgraded twice before arriving. To make sure my family has the most amazing stay possible. And on the second day they tell us we are not allowed to sit on the beach????? They knew a few days before we ariived and hit us with this. Not to mention the whike time asked to speak to a manager and he never had the audacity to speak to me about this. I gelt like they did me wrong. Like they got me good. Not cool. I will never ever ve back at another Ritz Carlton. Please be careful. Not to mentiin they tax for everything i mean everything. This was not a good experience and i wish i never took my daughter here.

Yelp
My husband and I needed a little get-away and we decided on the Ritz Carlton Dorado Beach Resort - we couldn't have made a better choice! Honestly we were treated like celebrities. We had a room on the west beach on the ground floor with a plunge pool. It was spacious and luxurious. A very large bathroom, double sinks, stand alone bathtub, shower inside and out! Walk in closet. There were so many wonderful touches including not only a blow dryer (which is standard these days) but a flat iron as well! The inform coffee machine was Nespresso, as much complimentary bottled water as you could drink. Our plunge pool was attended to daily and kept very clean. Our room was right on the beach - you could walk right out and have chairs right there. That being said there was a little path that was used by guests and hotel staff members that made a room on this part of the beach perhaps a little less private than those on the east side of the hotel. The rooms on the east side however, didn't have the same beach access. We really enjoyed the beach. Very clean. There is a breaker wall fairly far out making the beach a little more like a "cove". We found there to be plenty of large waves despite those rocks. Every guest has "ambassadors" - more like your own private concierge (although there is a very helpful hotel concierge as well). The two people who worked with us - Pedro and Chen - went above and beyond. They were there with suggestions, made restaurant and spa reservations and just all around made sure we had an outstanding stay. The property is sprawling. You get a feeling of being in a lush tropical forest. My husband and I like to run. There are lovely, and actually somewhat hilly, trails for running - a 4 mile and 2 mile loop! There are also two full-service gyms. The spa is incredible. Overall the design of the property was designed to look historic although it is largely brand new. While we were there we had mixed weather. Since the resort is so large there are really many options of places to spend your time and still be outside. There are these huge lounge "swings" in the main part of the hotel that are amazing for relaxing and reading. There is also a lovely "library" where my husband and I spent each evening after dinner playing backgammon. In that room there is also complimentary coffee and muffins in the morning and infuse water during the day and evening. There are many food choices. I believe there are four restaurants to choose from although we only ate in three. You can see my reviews of Mi Casa, Positivo and Encanto in separate Yelp reviews. Amazingly we were able to spend five nights and have five completely different meals. For dinner we ate twice at Positivo, twice at Mi Casa and once at Encanto. All had amazing settings and great food. You can eat lunch at Positivo or right at your chair at the beach or pool! A visit to the cocktail bar at Mi Casa deserves a special mention. The two sweet and highly knowledgeable bartenders - Diego and Valerie - make bespoke cocktails. I would liken them more to chefs of the bar! They are very focused on the ingredients and mix of flavors and even the ice. They really enjoy speaking with the guests about how they formulate their drinks. Throughout the day staff members are on the beach making sure to your every comfort including complimentary bottled water, mini popsicles and even cold grapes! In case there is concern regarding mosquitos the hotel provides bug spray (and sun screen), but honestly we didn't find the property to be "buggy". There are many room options including condos with full kitchens if you want to go with your family or group of friends. Children are welcome. On property there is a HUGE water park with a lazy river. In the off season it is only open on the weekends. There are many childrens' and family activities available (I believe some may have an additional charge). Very expensive but worth every penny! Heaven on earth! Not sure what more I can say other than we can't wait to return!

Yelp
What an incredible weekend. This is as closest you can get to paradise. Outstanding service and Resort. We stayed on East beach and opted to take a room with a private plunge pool which was a great choice. The room was spacious equipped with anything and everything you can ever need during your stay. My favorite feature has to be the outdoor shower. The property Is an absolute eye candy from lobby to the sand. The main pool is beautiful and the service poolside is fantastic. Our favorite spot to grab a bite daily was the Positivo bar. Excellent salads and appetizer choices during the day and the best sushi I've ever tasted at nigth. You can sit barside and take in the sunset in a cool restoration hardware oversized chair with excellent coctail options on the menu. The service at this bar was perfect, the staff was very attentive and have gone above and beyond for us during our entire stay. You will find breakfast at the Mikasa restaurant during morning hours. They serve dinner as well but we didn't have the opportunity to try as they have a very strict dress code for men. Closed toe shoes and long pants. At this climate this isn't something we were prepared for. This resort has a beautiful boutique next door to Mikasa unfortunately there were no long pants available for men besides jeans, I don't find jeans dressier than a fancy linen shorts with button down and definetly too hot for 90 degrees, so just be prepared if you are craving steak that you must pack slacks and closed to shoes. For this I can only give 4 stars. At a place where a nigth will cost you a thousand dollar plus and everyone is dressed super fancy even poolside, I think dress code to a main restaurant is not necessary. I have to say overall you will not regret choosing this incredibly beautiful resort. We are planning to come back again in the near future.

Yelp
Stood here for 10 days, relaxed. I had the in house ritz carlton car pick me up at the airport. this is absolutely breathtaking. you have your own butler on call anytime. I wanted some authentic puerto rican food, and my butler recommend some really nice places and had place an order for delivery! upon check in, I was greeted, and a lady with organic popsicle tray was ready to serve as a complimentary! my room was amazing ! I had my own plunge pool (west side) and the bar is fully stock with snacks and drinks. in room dining is also available. the bed was comfy, and the bathroom was very relaxing. I've stood and am a platinum for the ritz, and as a Ritz Carlton reserve, in the USA, its definitely a must visit :)

Yelp
A dream!! My husband took me here for my birthday, November 2015 and it was amazing. This is one of Ritz Carlton's Reserve properties. The accommodations, beach, property, service are above superior. The rooms are more than beautiful with your own plunge pool, if on lower floor, outdoor shower, complimentary bottle of rum. Bicycles are provided to tour the grounds and get to the restaurants, spa, gym. Beautiful trails to walk, run, bike. Lying on the beach, they bring you bottled water, lavender cold towels, Evian facial spray, sunscreen and a treat or 2 (cold coconuts, homemade popsicles). The restaurants are nice. I enjoyed Positivo the most with its location on the sand. The food overall is good, not great, but service exceptional. I hope to return one day, but winning lotto ticket may be required.

Yelp
This place is amazing on so many levels! The facilities at the beach resort is amazing. But that is to be expected from the Ritz Carlton brand. What makes this over the top is the staff. Every single individual we met opened up to us and told us about themselves. We felt as if we were family. The server at the pool, Jan, took time to share his thoughts on the hotel and Puerto Rico. It made us begin planning our return trip for the winter. There isn't a bad room on the west end of the property. We didn't see the other side. They are kid friendly, but we had plenty of quiet adult time also. I would urge anyone to make sure to use the full campus from tennis courts to fitness facility on the Plantation side. The restaurants are also spectacular. While we have stayed at five stars around the world, this one has earned a special place in our hearts thanks to the warm inviting staff!

Yelp
This is the best low-key luxury a guy could ask for. If you need the pomp and circumstance of an east coast or old world hospitality establishment, the Ritz Carlton Reserve will likely leave you somewhat unimpressed. If, on the other hand, you prefer west-coast or island hospitality, then it doesn't get much better. Beautiful facilities and amazing food - especially courtesy of José Andreś. Tapas ... Fantastic. The entire staff was friendly and approachable. Never felt like we were getting 'hustled'.

Yelp
This is the best resort I've ever stayed at - hands down. We got a special rate, so we were only here for two days, but it was SO worth it. I don't think I knew what pampered meant until I went to the Dorado. No check-in desk? I mean, there is one...but you don't have to go to it. Instead, they give you fresh tropical juice with spices in it and a tour of the GORGEOUS property. While on the tour, we were able to make reservations for dinner. Once in our room, we pretty much didn't want to leave. It was literally bigger than our condo in DC (which is pretty small but it's still a big room), and it had it's own pool. Why would you need to leave?? After taking pictures of the whole place (yep, we were those kind of people), we immediately went out back to check out the pool and the beach. While we were in the pool, the staff brought us a bottle of wine to celebrate our engagement. They also brought us bikes to ride around the property and snorkel gear to use if we wanted to. It was all included in the price. Although we walked everywhere to enjoy the beautiful property, the staff constantly asked us if we wanted a ride on a golf cart. They are all about service; however, they'll also leave you alone if you just want privacy. Most of the time, we felt like we were the only guests at the resort. The main pool is VERY nice with great views and a station for towels, water (with fresh fruit/cucumber in it), suntan lotion, etc. Or, if you want to enjoy the beach, it's literally a 100 ft walk away -- the beach was wave-free and very relaxing. If you get a pool with your room (which I HIGHLY recommend), there's really no need to go to the main pool. It's an incredible luxury to have the pool to yourself right outside your room. I didn't want to leave. If you get tired of your own personal pool, you can walk to the beach right behind your room and try that out too! We biked around the whole property (including the attached neighborhood), which was a very nice way to spend a cloudy afternoon. The gym in the neighborhood is free to resort guests, and is a pretty good gym! We enjoyed having the option, although the gym at the Dorado is also really nice. It's beautiful (which I know is a weird thing to say) and has a good selection of gym equipment - cardio options, weight machines, some free weights, and a bunch of other options like yoga mats, kettlebells, etc. Although we didn't get any spa treatments, we did go in and look around -- and I can't imagine how one must feel getting to enjoy that area. Going into the spa feels incredibly decadent - the pool areas look like they're from a movie because they're surrounded by such luscious rainforest-like plants. I'm sure the treehouse massages are amazing! I've reviewed the restaurants at Dorado separately, but I can say that we certainly weren't disappointed. Going in, I wasn't excited about having to eat on the property, but it was definitely worth it. Try room service too - we loved eating our breakfast on our private patio! Here's my review of Mi Casa: http://www.yelp.com/biz/mi-casa-by-jos%C3%A9-andr%C3%A9s-dorado#hrid:FXZ6diSqFuOxbRAzGwgIAg/src:self

Yelp
I'll keep this quick. This place is heaven on earth. I've been several times, and spent the high price for the rooms, and never regretted it. The service, feeling of luxury, quality of facilities, spa, grounds, everything, is just top notch. I love all their restaurants - have never had a bad meal. Nothing to complain about at all. I love this place, everything about it! Can't wait until they reopen!

Yelp
Such an amazing place, it's truly one of the most amazing getaway I have had. If you're looking for a quiet paradise with nothing else but wave's and coquí's serene melody, Dorado Reserve is the place to be

Yelp
This is a review for the hotel. The food I will do in a separate post. Suffice to say the food was fantastic. So this is the top of the tops right? Beautiful location, beautiful rooms, top tier hotel! But it lost a star. How? Service! This is an expensive place. And you honestly can't beat the location. The architecture is fun and vibrant. Open air check in. Lots of water features. Fun sand bar/restaurant and elegant fine dining. Lovely library. Soft sand beach. Rooms are large with amazing views. They are clean and bathrooms are fantastic. But there is no communication between the staff. Our reservation was made under a different name. We explained that wasn't our name before check in and after but they never corrected it or addressed by our real name. You have a butler who does nothing and basically muddies the communication when trying to book something or get a service. We had to rebook dinner reservations three times because of this. Also requests take to long to be fulfilled. Finally, the bell staff is lacking. Did not handle bags with care and left them sitting on dirty ground while they got our car, which we had requested to be there on checkout. A highlight is the pool and pool staff. But beware the pool drinks skimp on the booze.

Yelp
Was very peaceful, beautiful, quiet and the resort grounds was just simply magnificent. I loved my ocean front room with a mini pool. Scenery was great. The room was lovely esp the bathroom... I enjoyed bicycle riding around the compound a lot. Enjoyed the beach while watching the beautiful sunset. The staff was very friendly and nice. The spa was great and relaxing as well. Overall I was happy I stayed here because I honestly enjoyed myself. I did not care to leave the resort whatsoever. Just comfortable to the max.

Yelp
This place is stunning! Restaurants are exceptional! Water views are incredible! Gardens are gorgeous! Service is unbelievable! Can't even think of anything that could be added to this wonderful resort - everything is just superb! Thank you.

Yelp
Yes it's a Ritz Carlton. And we got complimentary upgrade from the east beach to the west. Lovely. The beach is indeed better than St Regis, also closer to the houses. But personally I'd prefer St. Regis still. His place is obviously more crowded. Don't get me wrong, these two top of the line hotels I will give both 5 stars but I just prefer St Regis's more lush lands and less people; feel like a escape in St Regis, while at here it's having fun with beautiful beach everyday. Bravo!

Yelp
To be honest, I had such a poor experience at first that I didn't think I could ever give the dorado beach RC more than 4 stars. But WOW did they surpass any and all expectations I had. My wedding weekend was incredible and it was all thanks to the staff. The level of service is unmatched and had all my guests in awe the entire weekend. Serious #embajadorgoals Words can't even begin to describe how much we appreciate all they did for us this weekend. Most especially, Kiri A., the event coordinator. She is genuine, helpful and just such a sweetheart but she handles things on an Olivia Pope level. Jonathan from catering was so incredibly attentive to us at both our events and was just a delight to be around. He has a great personality. Our embajadores-- Luis (the sweetest human on earth), Pedro, and Chen were sincere, thoughtful, (very) patient and attentive. As you can imagine, the wedding weekend was hectic but they did everything with a smile. Like, how did they never let it waiver?! Chef Suti was really cool and now I can never buy grocery store sushi again (don't judge me). There were many, many others whose names escape me. It is truly an experience being there and I'm glad I was able to share that with my closest friends and family. Thanks, yall.

Yelp
Hmmmm, in one word. Paradise. In other words, the ultimate playground for kids and adults. We live here now. Every morning I wake up I wonder if I'm dreaming. Whether you come to visit or come to stay you will love it here. The people the atmosphere, everything! If you don't....no one can please you

Yelp
The service is a step behind the breathtaking grounds and rooms. Bad: beach service, encanto food/drinks, inconsistent turndown service, positivo tempura ... and sake in toasting flutes? Dedicated ambassadors make everything better! mi casa drinks and food (not the paella) are really good, the other two restaurants on the property are ok, but not on the same level. In room breakfast is a must! Spa is wonderful! More kids then I expected. A local at Encanto got snappy because I didn't know about "buen provecho" - sorry man, now I know :)

Yelp
I think the greatest compliment you can give a resort is the fact that you DO NOT want to leave. The staff and accommodations were superb. Thank you for a GREAT time. We will cherish our stay and the memories we created. Job well done!

Yelp
This place is just something I'll likely never experience again in my life. So I might as well review it, right? I got booked here by a client on a business trip, and it was pretty surreal the entire time. The property is gigantic and more or less the epitome of "getaway paradise." Upon arriving you're greeted by a large concierge staff who take all of your bags and encourage you to relax and enjoy yourself. It's no joke. They looked at me funny when I insisted on holding onto my camera bag. They want to take care of EVERYTHING for you. A brief golf cart ride/mini property tour later and I was at my room, an amazing oceanfront suite. The room is incredible. Softest bed I've ever felt and facing right out to the sea. The bathroom had both an awesome modern-looking tub and indoor/outdoor showers. The guy who brought my bags, Michael was interested in my photography and showed me his as well, and we swapped Instagrams. Really nice dude. You're given cards from them with a number to text if you need anything as well. I got a chance to wander around a bit but didn't want to get lost so I stuck around close to my room. The pool in the main area is awesome, and they have a poolside bar/restaurant library nearby too. I went to Encanto, their beach club restaurant, for dinner with a friend and it was terrific. One of the best steaks I've ever had. Room service was very solid too. They even tell you the time they'll be arriving and they're spot on. It's pretty ridiculously pricey, as is everything on the property, but I fully expected it. Might as well enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime deal, right? It was like something out of a dream. Just one of those places that may seem normal to those with larger wallets, but for me? It's just nuts. But I sure enjoyed it. Incredibly nice people and a terrific experience during my stay.

Yelp
Hotel is beautiful but food is average (or below average) and overpriced. Drinks are consistently weak. Barlovento is perhaps the worst example. I have been 4 times and EVERY TIME it has taken over 45 min. to get food to the table. This is hamburgers, tacos, salads, etc. Nothing is fancy or complicated. Sigh....
google avatar

Yelp
Very friendly staff. You get an Embajador to help you get the most from the resort. Use him your life will be easier. He can get you a golf cart to take you around the resort. The place is large and has very poor signage, you'll need that cart and especially the driver that comes with it. Great food. Try the fish tacos and the ribeye steaks. They need to add some plantain options. Where's the Mofongo, after all this is Puerto Rico. Complicated electronics, if something in your room doesn't work - good luck. Also the place has steps going from the driveway to the front desk, why... My room was only 15 feet from the surf. The sound of the waves had me sleeping like a baby. It's a very nice place, you'll enjoy it.

Yelp
Staff was very accommodating and friendly. The grounds were beautiful. Offered an 18 hole golf course, two pools, lazy river and windmill, beautiful three bedroom villas, flat screen tvs, patios with mountain views, Mi casa world reknowned chef who came and made dinner for our party of 15. The Encanto beach club and grill had great food. The drinks made at the bar had little alcohol. I swear I had a couple drinks a day and never felt buzzed at all. The drinks made are more so sweet than anything. The Spa Botanico was amazing and also world reknowned. Had an amazing time here. Each villa was supplied with a golf cart to explore the grounds. Forgot to mention---I got engaged here :) I will definitely be coming back!!
