How a New Generation of Hoteliers and Chefs Is Creating a More Inclusive Martha's Vineyard

"A beloved Oak Bluffs dive bar with an unpretentious, gay-affirming atmosphere—rainbow décor, informal music nights and tongue-in-cheek cocktails—where locals and visitors mingle and the bar’s everyday honesty provides a down-to-earth counterpoint to the island’s more upscale venues." - Jennifer Wilson Jennifer Wilson Jennifer Wilson is a New York City-based writer specializing in Eastern European arts and culture. My son and I moved into The Ritz, North Hollywood, just this week. The apartment complex is very nice. It’s also quiet on the inside even being on a busy street. But what truly sets them apart from all of the other places we visited and tried to get into is simply their customer service. Julian is the property manager that we worked with throughout the whole process. I have been in the customer service industry for a very long time, so I know what true customer service is all about. I can say with 100% certainty, that there is NO ONE better than Julian in terms of customer service. From the very beginning of my interactions with Julian until we were fully moved in, he absolutely took care of us!! He went above and beyond on so many levels, from amazing communication throughout the process, to providing a dolly to help us move a fridge in. This guy is top notch!! I spoke with other residents while moving in and they also said that Julian and all the other staff were so nice and very helpful. He truly made the process seamless. I’d give him 10 stars if I could. Thank you Julian!!!!!!!!

Mikheil D.

Google
I wish to put 10 stars but only available 5. The point is not only apartment condition but the most important reason is outstanding Management service. We have the best manager and his name is Julian who is not only a designated person but also a good person, very friendly and always ready to provide his help. Thank you Julian for your outstanding service and your kindness.

The apartment manager, Julian, is the best manager I've ever met. He made the entire application and move-in process incredibly smooth, and he responded quickly to every question I had, resolving any issues with professionalism and genuine care. He's so caring and professional; I'd give him six stars if Google didn't cap it at five!

We just finished a tour with the on site manager Julian. We’ve toured a lot of properties in LA and this was the best one. Not just because the property met expectations, but how we were introduced to everything. He was willing to accommodate every request, show every available room, and we were met with such a warm personality it feels like we already have a friend here.

It’s been a pleasure being a tenant at The Ritz. Julian is prompt and always ready to answer any questions which is something I really value. I appreciate the attentiveness and open communication!

Looking for a new apartment to move into is a stressful time but Tez the property manager at the Ritz is fantastic!! She made the process very smooth and easy for us that all of our worries were taken care of. She is always around to answer any questions and is prompt with her replies. The ritz is also a great community, really clean, and the building maintenance works fast and is there for anything you need! It’s a very safe building and all in all, it’s a great place to live!

Google
I worked with property manager, Tez, and she made the entire process so perfect and easy! She was extremely caring, attentive, professional, and was genuinely so sweet! Working with Tez & going through the moving process at the Ritz, was the best moving experience I’ve had. They helped immensely and made everything so seamless. And so far, having lived here for a month, management always answers any questions very promptly. We feel very valued here!

Yelp
Really enjoy living here. The property manager Julian, is attentive and if any maintenance is needed it is done in a timely manner. I have noticed more things being done and upgraded around the apartment complex. It's a real nice place to live.

Yelp
Julian is the guy that makes this place great to live. He responds to any requests very quickly, and anything I've asked he's made happen (even an AC unit replacement!). I know he handles setting up all the contractors for the space. The property owner always elects to replace or go with new, instead of patching things the cheapest way like most apartments in the area would default to. Paying rent is easy, there haven't been any unexpected charges. Overall, very happy and no complaints. Julian for president!

Yelp
Great place to live. Building manager, Bruce is always on top of everything and i love how he always follows up and replies to our messeges fast. The building is managed well (not loving the carpeted walls of the elevator but i guess its there for a purpose). The washer and dryers are always available whenever i need to do my laundry, no complains!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I lived at the Ritz for two years and loved every bit of it. This was our first apartment together and we couldn't have asked for a better one! The building is very nice and well kept. It's in a lovely and fairly quiet neighborhood, with a nice park a few blocks away. We felt very safe living here, especially with the security patrolling the building on the weekends. The best part about this building is the manager Bruce - he's the absolute best! Bruce is so kind and always quick to respond to any questions or requests. If we didn't want to move closer to work, we definitely would've stayed here longer. Would highly recommend the Ritz to anyone looking for a place in the area!

Yelp
My wife and I moved into the Ritz In 2020 and we could not have been happier with our first apartment as a married couple. The building was always well maintained and it was perfectly located to all the major freeways. We had quiet and respectful neighbors and management was always very responsive. Can't say enough about our property manager, Bruce!! Always available, attentive, and respectful. We would definitely recommend this location to anyone looking in the Studio City area.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I lived here for 2.5 years until we had to relocate out of state for work at the end of December 2020. It was a great place to live! Our unit was on the top floor and faced Vineland Avenue. Although it is very close to a fire station, we got used to the sirens pretty fast. It wasn't that bad because our unit had double paned windows/doors (which I believe all units facing Bloomfield/Vineland have). What really made this a great place to live is the manager, Bruce. He is very nice and laid back, which we really liked. He'd ask how everything was going when he passed you in the hall and his cleaning staff always kept the place clean. I would see them mop every morning and if things were left untidy by other residents (i.e. the trash chute areas, elevators, floors etc.) it would be cleaned up promptly. Overall it was a pretty quiet and cozy place to live and my boyfriend and I are always talking about how much we miss living there.

Robin S.

Yelp
I've lived here for almost a whole year now, and I have really enjoyed my stay. The place is clean, and quiet for the most part. I do hear the sirens from the fire station next door, but the double pane windows really reduce the sound coming from outside. Living on the third floor does get quite hot though, but the air conditioning works great. The indoor parking garage is a big plus, and the street parking is not too bad either. There are usually spots available during all hours of the day. The best part is the manager, Bruce. He works extra long hours in attempts to keep the building safe, clean, and functioning. He can be reached all hours of the day which is awesome!! I can't really find anything to complain about while living here. I'd recommend the building to others!!

Yelp
I have lived here at The Ritz for a year and I am staying for a second year. I am an empty nester downsizing while I try to figure out what is next. My son is at ASU and this is close without being too close. The complex is quiet and calm. One of the things that I like best is the brick and concrete construction. It stays cool in the summer and is pretty soundproof, too. Another one of the big reasons I am still here is that the management is always responsive and helpful, no matter the issue. Everything from assigned parking to a dripping faucet is addressed quickly and efficiently. Oh! Also there are NO critters!

Yelp
I lived at the Ritz for a little over a year and loved it. The apartment was great and never had an issues. The management company is great and if there was anything that needed attention they were on it. Additionally, The onsite manager, Bruce is the best. You won't have a more attentive and nice on site manager anywhere. I wish I could take Bruce with me wherever I decide to move. I the Ritz

Yelp
I have been living here for 3/12 years and I highly recommend this building. While the management company is on top of things and the building is well maintained, the icing on the cake is Bruce, our manager. He not only oversees daily operations, but makes sure that all of our needs are well attended to. Bruce is humble, takes his job to heart, and is always there for us.

Sal R.

Yelp
Bruce does not get enough recognition for all that he does, very welcoming and fast response to anything that may be of issue. Thank you Bruce!!! Give this man a raise! Securing a spot here because of him and his professionalism.

Yelp
The Ritz has been my home for the past two years and I have loved every moment here. This was my first "big-girl" apartment and I couldn't have chosen a better place to live. The apartments, including mine (a junior one bedroom), are beautifully designed. The entire building is well maintained and kept clean at all times. Residents are respectful of each other's spaces. Pre-COVID, I really enjoyed having access to a spa, another amenity, that is maintained properly. Aside from the luxury living, the best part about The Ritz is its current manager, Bruce. Bruce is truly such a kind person and wants his residents to feel at home. He is extremely responsive and goes above and beyond to ensure the Ritz is a place you want to live. If I didn't want to be closer to work, I would be here a lot longer. I highly recommend The Ritz to anyone seeking a new home in the valley.

Yelp
I lived at the Ritz for two years and absolutely loved it. Only had to move because of work. The building itself is well kept and very secure. Neighbors were all very nice. The neighborhood is really nice as well. Lots of great hole on the wall type restaurants. Ventura BLVD down the street and the noho arts district gave us a great night life (pre COVID). The landlord Bruce was very responsive, kind, and caring. He's a very warm hearted man. What also made this place so nice was how close it was to the north weddington park just down the street. The park is beautiful and spacious. Was definitely a major plus having it so close.

Nicola E.

Yelp
I regretted moving here since the first week I moved in. This place is on not only a VERY busy street (which is right off the freeway), but right next to a fire station (a fire station that sends out vehicles multiple times a day, every day, and oftentimes might even wake you up past midnight). The units facing this street have double paned windows, but they simply aren't enough to block the lower frequencies (which are loud enough to resonate in your apartment and drive you crazy) from stalling trucks (did I mention this busy street this apartment is on is also right by an intersection?), basic LA trash flooring it in their basic LA trash cars and, of course, the fire trucks, all of which will annoy you all day and all night, every day and every night, incessantly. If you're on a lower unit, you'll hear your neighbors above. If you're on the first floor, you'll hear the cars from the parking garage below. Hell, some of the units have their bedrooms literally directly above the parking garage's automatic gates, so have fun hearing those all day and night too if you end up in one of those. I'm getting the hell out of here and I'm not looking back the moment my lease is up. **** this place. The manager, Bruce, is really the only redeeming thing about this place. Like many of these other reviews have mentioned, he's great. But that's it.

Yelp
I don't even know where to begin with this apartment complex! Yes it seems like it's a quiet building but please be aware of the fire department across the street! You can hear the siren going off every other hour!!!! Yes they make you lose your mind!!! Second is the apartments. They are old and everything inside of the apartments including the carpet, bathroom, blinds and sinks are nothing but crappy quality! Now you may not care but let me warn you ... when you are about to move out, no carpet cleaner can take any stains off of these carpets! This happened to us and while I asked for a professional cleaners to clean the carpets, they weren't able to remove the coffee stain in the bedroom and though the stain was significantly small, they charged us 900 dollars as they stated the entire bedroom carpet needs to be changed!! (This bedroom is also so small that my queen bed could barely fit in it) The disgustingly crappy quality sink was chipped on a few different areas BEFORE we moved in and they had filled in the chips with some material. The white material eventually fell off ( No I didn't drop anything in the sink and no I didn't use it as my chemistry lab!!!!!!!) They charged us $150 to replace the sink! (well, if they wouldn't have installed such cheap appliances then they wouldn't have chipped to begin with) and WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT? The blinds in the living room kept falling down and since the building was old, they weren't able to replace them but they had to keep fixing them every now and then. I finally gave up and put them behind the couch. I was charged $20 for each blind replacement. REALLY???? The popcorn ceiling kept falling on the carpet( which I guess I could easily vacuum) but I hated having them all over my clothes in the closet! Thank god they didn't charge me for the fallen ceiling pop corn!!!! I have been a renter for 12 years and I was able to collect my ENTIRE deposit back in the last two places I lived! after going back and forth with the management of The Ritz, I ended up OWING $261 on top of the $1000 deposit we never got back totaling $1261!

Yelp
So far so good, the apartment is in a great location and we haven't had any major issues.. I can hardly see anyone in the parking or in the halls and the apartment complex itself is very quiet, can't hear any of my neighbors noises.. The problem for us is that we are across the street from the fire station so it is noisy sometimes.. the up side is that if we ever have an emergency the firemen only need to walk across the street to our apartment.. lol.. The apartment has now cameras in the parking and as it is is very safe.. everything needs a key to get in.. the pool, the laundry rooms (one in each floor) and the gym.. The gym could be improved, the machines are outdated but it is better than nothing... The closets are spacious, the floor plans are nice and big compared to other apartments I lived in.. Bruce the manager is super nice and takes care of things right away..... People here are friendly and quiet..

Winston C.

Yelp
I have lived here for 5 years and it was a wonderful place to call home, during this time. The building itself is clean, well kept, and quiet. I had to move for work or else I would still be residing there. I echo the other reviewers in my praise for the building manager, Bruce. He's really helped make the place home for all those years.
google avatar

Millie C.

Yelp
After three years at the Ritz, I can still say that the Ritz has been a great place to live. This is all due to Bruce, the resident manager, who makes sure that the property is always looking great & that things are running in an orderly fashion. Great place to live. Great location. I highly recommend the Ritz!

Yelp
I moved in here 6 months ago. Everything about the building is great. Maintenance issues were solved in 1 business day. Bruce is a great property manager. He is professional and very accommodating. If this is your price range I would recommend this building.
google avatar

Harrison K.

Yelp
My wife and I had the pleasure of calling The Ritz our home for 3 years, before a new job pulled us out of town. It's a quiet, clean building with a central courtyard well insulated from the city, but what makes this complex so great is the management. Bruce is incredibly attentive to the needs of the community. He's kind, soft spoken, and just gets things done. It's more than a job, you can feel the care. Maintenance issues receive quick attention, and though most of the neighbors are private (offering a quiet refuge from city life and hectic jobs), it's a warm community. A sanctuary. We regret having to move, and have been having issues with mail at our new complex in Orange County. Management hasn't been as sympathetic, so I reached out to Bruce, who has been responsive and helpful despite the fact that we are no longer tenants of the Ritz. His generosity continues. I have nothing but praise for Carlo Inc., for The Ritz, and for Bruce. If you've been bouncing around the valley as we had been, this is a good place to catch your breath.

Yelp
I recently vacated from my apartment of 2 years living at the Ritz. I wanted to write a review since no one really take the time to say good things only complain on these types of forums. I will start with location: This area and location is amazing. I worked near by at the studios so the convenience of being near everything including work was amazing. The grocery store again is a stones throw away and in the plaza my favorite... Starbucks! If you like living in the woods where cars done drive-by and you don't hear a peep then the street side isn't for you but the building is really quiet. If you are live and upbeat and love the city feel, being near everything then this is the place for you! The second is the actual apartment and building: The apartment I loved from the start hence the reason why I rented and lived for two years (I left for work relocation). Although I didn't have problems like other reviews mentioned; like falling pop-corn lol (I didn't disturb it maybe that is why). I did have a microwave that went bad but it was replace rather quickly and was never an inconvenience. My apartment was facing the street and I loved it, I'm originally from NY so this was hush hush pleasant for me. The building is nice with a pool area that I never used but nice to know it's there. The parking was my favorite nice it was covered, gated and I had two space even though I have one car, yeah! The third is the manager: Bruce is so dear, he is by far the hardest working and most reliable manager I have had in any place I rented. If Bruce was not in the office helping someone he was out and about cleaning the building. I swear I have never seen anyone who keeps busy and loves what he does or does it with heart like Bruce. The fourth is the security deposit: I received my security deposit rather quickly. The amount was not what I expected BUT as I started to look at the charges it all made sense. I hung lots of pictures, I walked on the carpet (I don't hover) and I opted not to clean the apartment when I left. The charge for cleaning was worth it because it wasn't even worth my time to do it for that cost! The carpet, well I know needed cleaning and of course the walls needed to be painted. I'm a very reasonable person and I know when things look right. My experience at the apartment was great, I enjoyed living in a place that felt like home. If I need to go back to the Studio City area I will definitely go back to the Ritz.

Yelp
I moved into a one bedroom apartment a little over a month ago and things have been great! The manager was very helpful in showing me the apartments (nice variety of floor plans), and after my move in has assured me to reach out whenever I need anything. The building is nice and quite. My apartment had new carpet and hardwood floors as well as new light fixtures. I am told the building is getting repainted on the inside and out in spring or early summer 2015 so it will look even nicer! I would strongly recommend the Ritz Apartments.

A S.

Yelp
We have lived here for about six months now and we love it. The neighbors I have met have been nice. The building is usually pretty quiet and is very well maintained. For what we pay, we have a decent sized apartment, at least compared to where we lived before. The neighborhood is decent. The manager, Bruce, is very friendly and very attentive. When we have had maintenance issues come up once or twice (nothing major, just an appliance issue), Bruce had someone in to look at it that day or the next day. It brings a lot of peace of mind to know that everything is so well maintained and that if something does pop up, Bruce will be on it!

Lusine M.

Yelp
We have been here for a little less than a year now and I have to say, it's absolutely great. Fairly quiet building, covered parking and plenty of street parking for the most part, clean, and well maintained. Just like most of these reviews, I do have to note the best part of living here is the Property Manager Bruce!! When we were looking into a few places right before we moved in, we wanted to see the unit a few times before finally making a decision. Each time, Bruce was extremely patient, polite, and just so pleasant to work with. When we let him know we had a small window to move in, he worked tirelessly to make sure the process was handled in a timely manner. Every time I see him regarding a request or place a request online, it is handled instantly. One day I placed a request and someone was at my door by the time I got up! When the summer heat hit and our AC wasn't working properly, he placed a request right away and even went through the effort to personally bring us a portable AC unit until the maintenance men arrived. I could really go on and on. He always makes sure the place looks great and everyone is taken care of. Just such an amazing, hardworking, and pleasant Manager which truly makes you never want to leave!

Ian C.

Yelp
I've lived at the Ritz for almost a year. I was searching for a "landing pad" to escape the hellishness and expense of AirBnB/Furnished apartments. I knew when I walked up to the freshly polished brass and well-swept entry tile that this was a well managed place. After meeting Bruce, I was convinced. They had an updated suite with newish carpet and laminate wood in the bath and kitchen available on the top floor that was "reasonably" priced (by LA standards anyway) so I took it. The other bonus is that while there are no laundry inside the suites there are washers and dryers on each floor so its a little more convenient. As far as noise from the fire station its not that bad, especially with new double-glazed sliding doors. The whole building was painted this summer and new carpet was just installed in the hallways. All in all, this is a very well run building which makes the most of an 80's building.
