Sweet, attractive, well-appointed hotel with excellent (and rather charismatic) staff, DELICIOUS breakfast pastries every morning, an excellent, intimate bar and a gorgeous outdoor space to start or wind down a busy day. The rooms are spotless, the beds comfortable, the in-room amenities good. A perfect spot in the heart of town, but quiet and relaxing. Book it!

We had seen the Rochester a few times when visiting our kids who attended school there. We wanted to try a new property for this stay and we wanted to be close to all the action downtown for the holiday weekend. We were not disappointed, we loved the vibe and the staff at the hotel!

Google
Beautiful historic hotel in a great location (quiet street a block from the main commercial strip). Room was clean, tastefully decorated, well-appointed, and quiet. Staff was friendly and efficient. Excellent coffee, continental breakfast, and bar offerings. We had a wonderful two night stay. Highly recommended!

Absolutely incredible, the hotel rooms are beautiful and the staff takes such great care of you. After a day at The Great Sand Dunes, we needed a place to relax and enjoy a calm evening. The Rochester was exactly that. The bathroom is perfection, and the garden outside makes a morning breakfast glorious. I cannot stress how amazing this place is, especially for the price. My friends and I swore to each other to stay here any time we visit Colorado. Thank you so much to the hotel owners and staff!

Google
The hotel has history - so do others in town. This hotel was nice and quite being a street away from most shops. The rooms were large and kind of furnished in a minimalist way. We had the bed, 2 small nightstands, a small table with chairs that would be uncomfortable for more than a short time and a dresser. There were many feet of wall space with nothing on the floor. Only 2 picture in the room. The tv was in a case that seemed to muffle the sound. Bathroom was good, room was clean. No complaints, just nothing outstanding either. The service on the other hand was outstanding. Every single person we encountered was friendly, helpful and engaged in conversation with us. I wish I knew all their names, but we had a long vacation moving from town to town and I neglected to write those details down. They ALL are great and deserve kudos. The outdoor area is also a wonderful place to sit and relax. We had drinks out there every night and enjoyed morning coffee there at least once. Even had one of the bartenders invent a drink to meet our specs for a tropical, no coconut, refreshing concoction. It was great! Not sure whether I'd have liked staying on the main street or not. I have no complaints about The Rochester, but doubt I'll be back in Durango although it's a great place to visit.

Couldn’t be happier with our stay at The Rochester! Location was perfect- we could walk to/from essentially everywhere all weekend. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable. The bar and garden area downstairs were so nice. Highly recommend!

Google
We stay at the Rochester every year to kick off our summer. The rooms are clean, the staff is great, Durango is a beautiful town to relax and play in. The happy hour is great, the beds are comfy. This year there was a glitch and it looked like we had booked two rooms. The staff very kindly helped resolve the issue with very little hassle. Thanks so much for another great stay!

Google
Clean, cozy room, nice and efficient staff. Conveniently located, 5min walk to the train depot, and walkable distance to restaurants and shops. Narrow parking in the back, but we were still able to fit our truck with 2 bikes on a bike rack. Pretty amazing actually. Would stay again!

Yelp
The courtyard is magical! Rooms are beautiful and comfy. The bed is spectacular! Bar service daily from 3-9 Breakfast bar with light bites and coffee Walk to everything! If you are looking for a charming historic stay in a beautiful mountain town, this is your place...

Yelp
Cute and clean place! The bed was the most comfortable bed I think I've ever slept on when traveling. After booking the room, I immediately received a text regarding what to expect, details of the hotel, how to get into my room, etc. No interaction with staff as they recommended texting with any inquiries we may have had which was no big deal as we had everything we needed. Parking wasn't bad. You could either park in the parking lot next to the hotel or right behind it with limited parking. Texted when we checked out.

Yelp
This is a follow - up to my review of several weeks ago. Poor internet. Impersonal and cold hotel now. Just adding photos. We won't return.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem. Ok, maybe not so hidden since it's one block east of the main. The hotel is small, with less than 20 rooms, but feels like a nice boutique hotel. We travel with our 9 year old Aussie/Collie dog, and they set us up in a room that walks right out to the central patio. So convenient for those short dog walks to get dinner downtown. The room itself was very large, and felt like a great size for a multi-night trip. Service was top notch, and the staff was attentive and accommodating. We happened to stumble upon a book reading by a well known author right outside our room on our last night. This place is worth every penny.

Mike F.

Yelp
Unfortunately, the Rochester sold the Leland house, we visited for six days during Christmas And the Rochester sign is no longer on . Front door stays locked It is very sad. This was an outstanding hotel with an outstanding staff & breakfast. The Leland was very accommodating , but we will not be staying there again either. The back parking has become a circus. There is no longer a barricade pole to separate the dispensary parking. Interior Design of the Leland has become modern no longer historical. Both will be missed!

Yelp
GREAT location! GREAT service! SUPER EASY check-in! First this is in a great area of downtown historic Durango... easy walking distance to lots of stuff! Lola's (across the street), Steamworks Brewing, Main Street is a block away to where lots of shops, bars, etc .... and it's walkable to the Train depot if you do the ride up to Silverton. Check-in... what Check-in?... they text you your room number and the code to your room. Bam! You got everything you need. Parking isn't the greatest. There are like 5 spots behind the hotel in a little alley. There is a "pay for parking" lot really close to the hotel. Now... if you time it right, you don't have to pay for parking in that lot.... holidays and weekends are free, and times between like 5pm and 7am are free (so non-working hours). The hotel itself is Historic so don't be expecting fancy anything or elevators. Be ready to drag whatever you packed up the stairs if you have a second level room. The rooms have been renovated, and the shower was actually nicer than my shower at home, so I took photos of it for when we re-do our bathroom. The bed was a bit too soft for my liking... but it was definitely a "snuggle down" type bed. They provided big bottles of soaps, lotions, shampoo and conditioner so no worries about running out. The A/C worked great! Thank Goodness because it was sweltering when we went... the whole West Coast was having a heat wave, so it affected Southern CO too. They had a carafe of water in our room, and whenever we needed to fill it up, we just went downstairs where they had a big glass water cooler on the counter. They offer "happy hour"... with some local beers, wines and snacks. Plus, they had fresh cookies! I'm a sucker for cookies. They also do a light breakfast in the morning with coffee, juice, mini muffins / baked goods, fruit. We were always on the go first thing in the AM, so we'd grab coffee and a banana and head out. Worked great for us. Folks here are nice and helpful if you have questions about the area. WIFI worked great the whole time we were here. No issues. Hubs even hooked up our Roku thing to the TV for the evenings when he wanted to watch sports. I would totally stay here again should we find ourselves back in the area.

Yelp
This was such an oasis among towns to find. The best part was that Durango wasn't in our radar. We were meant to come here. Every detail is thought out. From contactless check in to the fresh scramble you can request in the morning. We loved it so much that we booked a bonus night and will make it a future destination. Be sure to stop by for the happy hour and enjoy the repurposed railcar sunroom! A special shout out to Kayla for your hospitality!

Benny L.

Yelp
Unfortunately, our trip is about over. Our expectations were met in all categories with friendly and happy people! Even the owner is actively present ensuring everyone is happy. The hotel is in excellent shape and feels like a home environment. They have a great continual breakfast in the main lobby with excellent pastries. They even put out snacks for a grab to go throughout the day (Nice touch). Then after a hard day of exploring Durango, they have a bar and the first drink is free! It truly has been a great experience.

Durana G.

Yelp
Great service great vibe Highly recommended the bartender was the best and made fabulous cookies

Margy P.

Yelp
This lovely and welcoming hotel is close to everything. The rooms are comfortable and the garden is a quiet little oasis. The staff is professional and accommodating. Coffee and breakfast were a treat, especially the breakfast served on weekends.

Jenny B.

Yelp
We didn't end up staying here because we needed a place with two beds, but just based on my phone call with them I would recommend. So kind and willing to accommodate us in every way they could. The only reason we didn't chose to stay is they didn't have any rooms left with two beds and although they offered a roll away we felt our son and his dog needed a full size bed of their own. We drove by the hotel and it looks adorable and paired with the extra friendly woman who answered the phone I would definitely stay there.

Yelp
Durango, Colorado is a beautiful historic town and for anyone who is going to stay here should consider staying at Rochester Hotel. Rochester Hotel was built in 1892, and was originally known as The Peeples House. It has been a hotel with a variety of owners and then in 1993, it was renovated and became Rochester Hotel. Today Rochester Hotel pays respect to older western cinema as well as giving you plenty to do. You can go into downtown and enjoy the surrounding environment as well as stay on premise and enjoy the hotels lovely garden. There is complimentary breakfast in the morning and a variety of tea and cookies throughout the day. The cool thing about breakfast is that every day they make something new. So if your staying for two to three days you'll try something new each day. We stayed in the Loft which was perfect for our family because it had a living room, dinning room, two bedrooms, a kitchen, bathroom, and patio to sit outside.

Aisha P.

Yelp
I can't express how adorable this place is! From its rich history, to the incredible service, the Rochester Hotel made my stay enjoyable and memorable! Highlights: -Cozy bed and breakfast -Great views -Centrally located in downtown Durango - The BEST service ever. Lowlights: - Small portions for the hot breakfast. My boyfriend and I had a lovely stay and will always remember this trip!

Patricia E.

Yelp
We (party of 2 rooms) enjoyed a complimentary, unrequested upgrade from queen (1st fl) to king rooms (2nd fl). This obviously has its challenges when moving luggage, but were graciously allowed to store our skis in the outside garage. Megan showed us around the hotel with bits of trivia. The ladies preparing and serving breakfast in the morning were very accommodating. (If they have lemon bread, you have to try it - fab!) The potato frittata and egg, Swiss & asparagus scramble w/homemade toast was very good. Husband didn't order breakfast because there was no meat. Our rooms were impeccably clean and smartly furnished. My sister was very impressed and wanted to know how I found this unique location. LOVE the reasonably priced swag, and the attention to quality bath & body products. Lots of info in the lobby on local events. Wifi very dependable. Not a lot of traffic on this street so nice quiet sleep. What did I dislike? The floor creaked. Not fixable, so get over it.

Christina H.

Yelp
This is a wonderful hotel! I would call it old world style and charm! The staff are amenable, helpful and professional. The whole hotel is furnished with old movie posters and photos and each room is based on one of those. The rooms are beautifully decorated, clean and stocked with Aveda products such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash and lotion. in addition they provide make up remover pads. It is quiet and comfortable. The breakfast that comes with the meal is very good. Each day they have a main entree you can request, such as asparagus and swiss cheese omelette. in addition they have cereal, fruit, baked goods, and wonderful coffee and juice. There is also off street parking right in back of the hotel. In addition there is a beautiful courtyard where I understand they have regular entertainment during the summer. Even without entertainment (we came after high season) it is a beautiful place to sit and hang out. It is conveniently located to several restaurants and breweries as well as main street and downtown Durango. Definitely will be back!

Mike R.

Yelp
This is our first time here and so far we've spent one night and are staying one more. This is a nice place. It's an older place which for my wife and I being older ourselves works out great. At this moment we're eating breakfast and it's sooo much better because it's made to order and not just some stuff the staff puts out that morning the food here is cool now and hot. The staff is so nice. I have a mobility problem and use a cane and the staff has been accommodating as possible and they also set aside a space for parking that was close to the entrance. We're retired and plan on making this a yearly event to catch the fall colors and we will definitely be staying at this here at this hotel

Yelp
This is a tough one to review, because on our historic but restored, downtown historic district hotels with the best ratings for the area, this was the only one that fit for Durango. But it was a less than stellar experience. So maybe barely AOK, with the point that there isn't anything better in Durango in this category. It was the only place on our trip that my husband had stayed in previously and he remembered it so fondly. But that was 20+ years ago and I don't think a thing other than the front office has been updated since. And he apparently had a much better room last time. The thing about these smaller old hotels is that usually every room is different. And therein lies a bit of a problem. Since you cannot see it in advance, and they tell you what is available in your size category, you have to trust their judgement, sight unseen. Last time he was there he had a bright sunny room upstairs and it had been recently renovated. And it was fall so it was cool outside. Now, two decades later, we were assigned a small room under the stairs with one tiny window that had the bottom half filled with an AC unit (lucky indeed in the heat though) but facing the communal patio so a heavy privacy drape over the rest. Too dark for me. And a bit stuffy so we ran the AC for freshness overnight even though it was probably cool enough outside had we had an open window. If we had been staying more than one night, I would have asked for a different room. The decor was attractive in a very old way, not updated and freshened with an historic bent like the other places we stayed. But real antiques nevertheless. The staff was incredibly friendly and pleasant. We even met an employee who had grown up in our part of CO and had moved to Durango for college and liked it so much she stayed. She is a wonderful asset to the business. It was so nice to talk to her for a few minutes, out on the patio in the evening and get a local's perspective on the area from someone who knows ours. Also, they put out a very nice complimentary breakfast in the morning and though I don't eat much that early, my husband thoroughly enjoyed his homemade granola and fixings, juice and coffee.

Yelp
First time staying at Rochester Hotel... we came to town to celebrate my husband's birthday. We enjoyed our stay so much!! Our room was very clean and smelled clean as well. Great location, as we were able to walk to dinner. The staff were so nice and helpful. We especially enjoyed the breakfast! Felt like a home cooked meal!! We will certainly be back!

Randy T.

Yelp
We recently hosted our daughter's wedding in Durango, CO. The Rochester Hotel was recommended to us. We and some of the guests occupied The Rochester- almost the entire (15 room) hotel. We also hosted the Welcome Party in the adjacent courtyard the night before the wedding. I cannot say enough about this "hotel." It was fabulous- the location off Main St, rooms, cleanliness, authentic feel, the staff, the sitting area, coffee, pastries, fruit and scrambled eggs. I really cannot say enough. Thank you Haley and your entire staff. We will certainly be back. Randy Evanston, IL

Yelp
If I could do a 5+ that's what I would do. But since they cap me at 5, know that I'm adding the + on my own. From start to finish our experience was top notch for customer service. When I booked the reservation the gentleman was super nice. Turns out we are both from Fort Collins so we chatted a bit about that too. The day of our reservation we drove in from Antelope Canyon. We thought we'd arrive earlier than we did but we got a call from Max at 8 checking in on us. He wanted to make sure we had a way to get into our room if we arrived after 10 when they closed. We got in at 9 and Max took us up to our room and went over all the important stuff. He could not have been nicer or more professional. This morning we had two really lovely ladies cook and serve us a hot breakfast of dill havarti scrambled eggs and hash browns. It was delicious and again they offered the same high quality customer service. Oh and the room was really lovely. The bath soap is amazing, so much so that we wrapped up the one we opened and took it with us. They had make up wipes and great lotion too. In short, this should be anyone's go to place to stay in Durango!

Debra R.

Yelp
Let me join the chorus in singing the praises of this wonderful hotel. We spent my birthday night here and I was given a free glass of champagne from their small lobby bar. Room 105 has lovely antiques, huge shower and a deck on their secret garden. The service from the moment we walked in asking about a room until check out was great, the staff all make you feel like part of their family.

Meg S.

Yelp
We were wondering around near by when we went in for directions. Laura was so inviting, polite, and generous. Needless to say we spent time on their patio enjoying a glass of Rochester wine. The interior was clean, organized and had local artists photos hanging on the walls. We will definitely be back to stay. Beautiful I'm so many ways.

Sara L.

Yelp
These people are so, so nice. I travel for work and they always take care of me. On top of that, the suites are to-die-for cozy and their breakfast is LEGIT and ever-changing. Love this home away from home.

Jennifer M.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING! It's home away from home. I don't want to leave. Cozy cottages and dog friendly! Laura and her hubby are the best! In these trying times I feel lucky we found this place!

Lucille Z.

Yelp
My husband did some work for this county so I went along to celebrate my birthday. I wasn't sure what to expect. When we stepped through the door we were greeted with the smell of clean. Not disinfectant clean, but classy clean. Immediately we knew this was a hotel that was well cared for. From the deep padding in the rug, to the quietness, to the professional greeting were were given, to the jars of homemade cookies, I knew we were in for a treat. Over the next few days we enjoyed homemade breakfasts, mini concerts, several lengthy visits with the owner and his staff, bottles of wine that they sell there, comfortable beds, clean showers, and friendly service. Places like this are hard to come by. I'm not sure I want to write this review because I want to keep the secret for myself. This hotel caters to business professionals, couples who want a romantic getaway, and singles. Single women will feel especially safe and pampered here.

John S.

Yelp
Excellent experience. Super friendly staff, clean and large rooms. Very clean, modern, and updated. Nice casual breakfast provided as well as cookies in the afternoon. Great location, just one street off Main Street, so it is extremely quiet. Absolutely no negatives. Will be back for sure. Highly recommended.

Jimmy D.

Yelp
Kirk, Thank you and your staff for an excellent stay. It was everything I hoped for! Also your food, hiking and cocktail recommendations were spot on for us. Till we meet again! Jimmy Duncan

Marisa B.

Yelp
What an absolute delight. I loved all the movie history on the walls and the room was comfortable with great city views!!

Doug G.

Yelp
The only place I'd stay in Durango. Great location, lovely property, spacious, well-appointed rooms, friendly, attentive staff, delicious, hand-made breakfasts, are just the start of why I chose The Rochester. Love the Western Cinema theme, the great furniture and posters, and the fact that I can get a drink at their boutique bar in the lobby. Plus one more BIG THING: LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION (it's near everything). Stay here!

Clarice Y.

Yelp
A perfect little getaway...especially from Los Angeles, CA! My boyfriend and I came here for the Durango Film Festival and boy, what a treat it's been! Everything has exceeded our expectations from the quaint and coziness of the place, yet immaculately clean, to the friendly, small town-like service to the amazing gourmet breakfasts we get to experience every morning! Let me tell you a bit more about the breakfast because this is at least half the reason you should stay here...every morning you get to enjoy a gourmet, home-made breakfast of home-made baked goods, fresh fruit, coffee, tea, juice, home-made granola, then on top of that, they have a daily hot entree cooked for you right there in their home-like kitchen. Examples of entrees we had are Berry French Toast and a Feta Basil Omelette with a crispy potato cake on the side. The dining area feels like you're a at home in a little cottage out in the country. Every day, there are freshly baked cookies in a jar you can help yourself, too, which my boyfriend made sure to take advantage of every day. We lucked out a got the newly established Loft, which is just next to the hotel with its own living room, dining area, fireplace, full kitchen and 2 bedrooms! This is the perfect get-away! If not for the Film Festival, we would have never thought to come to Durango, CO, but after being here, I would come again and highly recommend for friends and family to make a trip out here to enjoy the beauty, friendliness and to definitely stay at the Rochester Hotel. A couple of other little details: comfortable beds, free WiFi, Aveda shampoo, etc. and great soaps! Also, the owner, Kirk, is such a nice guy, he really wants to make sure you have a great stay!

Kari N.

Yelp
I loved this little hotel. The beds were comfy, the room was delightful (and spotless), and the breakfast delicious. It's in the heart of the cutest little town in the west - you can just park your car and walk wherever you need to go. It's not a soulless chain hotel. I hopped on the free wi-fi with no problems. I signed up for their newsletter and could have had a free bottle of wine in the dining area as the monthly special, but I opted to just take a glass to my room. I probably should have docked a star because the parking kind of sucked, but really, everything else more than made up for it. My son will be attending FLC in the fall of 2012, and I'm looking forward to staying here in the future.

Christina S.

Yelp
The first time we visited Durango it was during the summer and we stayed across the street in the Leland House. This last weekend it was to catch the last of the fall colors and it was cold, and we stayed at The Rochester Hotel. Let me tell you, I adore this whole scene. The rooms are yes, an old Wild West Hollywood theme, as is the rest of the Hotel. It's not my thing... usually... but here, it works. After both visits, I prefer visiting in the summer. There is just so much more for me to do in Durango and the surrounding areas for me, in the summer. You can borrow a complimentary bike to tour the city, and they have "Secret Garden" concerts. I especially love to sit outside in the "Secret Garden" to eat breakfast when it's warm enough. No matter when I decide to go though, I know I'll be greeted warmly and I will have a great time. The staff is delightful, the rooms and buildings are so clean you could lick the floor (okay probably wouldn't do that, but still...super clean!), the breakfasts are downright gourmet (try the mouthwatering mini muffins and scones), and the cookies at night after touring around are a welcome treat indeed! I really had to search my brain for any negative thing about The Rochester Hotel.... and the only thing I could think of, after days of mulling this over... Is the TV is tiny (but you're in Durango... you probably won't watch much TV anyway...), and if you're there on a Honeymoon or some other type of Lovers Get-Away, you might have to try and keep it down a bit... It's not exactly sound proof. You can't hear much while in your room, but in the hallways you can hear more than you think... :) Just a friendly FYI. The parking is sometimes pretty crowded too, but honestly you're so close to almost anywhere you want to go in Durango that you'll probably walk. You're better off walking to those Beautiful Breweries anyway. Drink Responsibly y'all! But really those things don't change the 5 Star rating at all! Anytime I'm in Durango I'll plan on staying here or The Leland House. The Rochester Hotel in downtown Durango is everything a B&B should be in the beautiful mountains of Colorado.

Christine P.

Yelp
I didn't even stay here, but I love the place. Their hospitality is unprecedented. I miss it already. We met the owners at a lovely reception for the Durango Film Festival. They were so kind and welcoming throughout. Our friends (see Clarice Y's review for details) were fortunate enough to get The Loft, which is a gorgeous two-bedroom apartment with a full kitchen. I could easily live there. If you're looking for a classy and cozy place in Durango, this is it. And according to more than a couple sources, their breakfast is amazing. But I think they stop serving at 9, which is why I missed out.

Bea R.

Yelp
What a pleasant historical place to stay ~ so convenient, since we were going to ride the train. Secured a "dog room" where they had supplied a dog bed, bowls and towels to clean pet feet that might have gotten wet/muddy. The hostess and host were very friendly, we loved the little bar to hang around. Breakfast was so nice with table service, varied menu, and reasonably priced. Love this hotel! The host told us about the "Bookcase," a charming speak easy camouflaged as the name would imply, behind a bookcase, but also inside a barber shop that remains open in the evenings. Very cool, with unique cocktails named after famous writers... have a password (a writer's name) ready to gain entry to the guy dressed in 20's-30's attire to seat guests.

Barbara M.

Yelp
A very delightful change from the chains. Rooms are good sized, they pay attention to details, good location for dining, shopping, etc. Front desk staff very helpful. Wonderful patio to relax on, have a cocktail, or read. Breakfast was included and perfect. Highly, highly recommend. Max recommended Ken and Sues for dinner. Great suggestion...thanks!

Brooke K.

Yelp
We stayed here over the weekend but wish we booked a longer trip. It was such a cute place and had so much charm. There was so many special touches everywhere you looked but the best one was the made to order hot breakfast. It was like any other I've had at any hotel. Really made our stay one of a kind. We won't be staying anywhere else when we come visit Durango. From the quite nights sleep to the comfortable bed and the cozy ness of the rooms, our stay was blissful.

Kathy R.

Yelp
We were here visiting. We heard they were going to have music in the Secret Garden at the Rochester Hotel. It was awesome, the music , the atmosphere, it was great. I was able to walk around the Hotel and check out the rooms. They were very clean and inviting. We will be back

Yelp
Last night I was attending a soirée at a local establishment we all know and love - The Rochester. I was enjoying a sip of my watermelon martini with a swizzle of tea tree oil (thanks Jerry, you always make it best), when I couldn't help but tune in to the dulcet tones surrounding my ear ducts. Specifically, between the hour of 11pm and midnight. I glanced over to the Disc Jockey booth and spied two young men (boys? folk?) behind the "decks" - I believe that's what the kids call them? - and I was blown away. I honestly have not encountered such musical prowess since the days I studied with Mozart!! I asked dear Jerry at the bar for the night's musicale catalogue but upon finding there was no such thing, I quizzed him further about them. Apparently these two musical masterminds are based on the body of work of that famous fellow, the one who runs a lot and has a funny middle tooth - I don't recall the name but I believe it was something along the lines of Tomithy Cruiseship. Well. I don't understand it but, by Jove, did I love it! It was a performance I'm already telling the grandkids about. I've actually been up all night since, composing feverishly, such is the inspiration I've felt since this phenomenon occurred. Do yourself a favour, Rochie old chap, and book them again. Weekly, if possible.

Yelp
We were planning a last minute Labor Day weekend getaway and couldn't seem to find a hotel that was affordably priced and also somewhat nice and in the heart of town. I stumbled upon the Rochester hotel and immediately like B looks of it. We booked it online and the next day they called us to confirm our reservation and also to ask a few questions about our preferences and our stay intentions. We checked in at 4 p.m. on a Saturday and our room was ready. The young lady the front desk was very sweet and accommodating. She walked us to our room which was room number 103. It was on the main floor just across from the kitchen and breakfast area and near the stairs. I initially thought it would be noisy but it didn't bother us. The only noise I heard was probably in the morning around breakfast time which by the way is served from 7 a.m. till 9 a.m. and it was delicious. As for the room itself, this room had a king bed (very comfy) and a cute red leather chair along with several dressers and credenza type things throughout the room. Of course everything is antique-ish. BTW, the included breakfast was great. They have a different bf dish every morning and also fruit, muffins, bf breads, etc. You can have any or all. I have no complaints, hopefully we'll be back soon!

The Rochester Hotel is a part of the Leland House, just across the street. Our room was a queen with the courtyard view at the back of the Rochester Hotel. The location is just a block from downtown, across the street from a couple cafes and Steamworks. Our room was spacious, comfortable, clean, nicely decorated and opened directly into the courtyard which was especially convenient because we had our dog with us. I also appreciated the room having air conditioning, which isn't always available in some Colorado mountain towns. Another plus - the cruiser bikes you can "check out" and ride around town (awesome) or if you're exhausted at 10pm after a day at Mesa Verde like we were, you can check out westerns that were shot around Durango (City Slickers, anyone? Yes, please.) from the front desk. Every staff person we encountered was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was fantastic. Be sure to have the granola! I would've stuffed some in my purse to take home if no one was looking :) We will definitely stay again!

Yelp
Excellent property. Very much a B&B feel. Staff is terrific every time iI am here and they know your name. Hot cooked breakfast every morning that is awesome! I definitely recommend it over any other property in Durango.

Yelp
Stayed here one night before moving from Durango. The place is adorable with lots of photos and posters lining the walls. Had a Clark Gable Western movie poster in our room. Loved the accommodations, had a yummy hot breakfast and service was A+. I have nothing bad to say about this place! I highly recommend it, though if you like quiet, don't stay in one of the front rooms on a Saturday night -- revelers occasionally walk by making all sorts of noise, but that stopped by about 2 or 3 am. Great place to stay!

Yelp
I've been here two years in a row while visiting my awesome gal pal in the summer and LOVE staying here. Comfy rooms, great service and now they even have happy hour! It's a nice change from staying at the same boring hotel chains. Rates are good and if you can make it to breakfast - it's worth it!! We may have slept in and missed it do to our evenings on the town this year when a 3rd hooligan joined me this year.

Yelp
Oh my goodness!!!! I love the Rochester Hotel in Durango!!! I stayed there for the first time in June and was delighted with everything down to the awesome bath soap. The staff is fantastic, the breakfast is delicious, and the rooms are wonderful. I am usually very picky when it comes to hotels, but don't have one complaint. I just wish I could have stayed longer!!!! I am looking forward to visiting Durango again and will most definitely be staying at the Rochester Hotel!

Yelp
Wow what a wonderful place!! My son and I stayed there to check out Fort Lewis College. The staff was incredible from check in to check out... and we did not want to check out. The breakfast was wonderful and made just for us... well we were the only ones in the hotel that Sunday night, but it appears that this is a common thread. I love how they made such a wonderful hotel out of an old building, so much charm. I did not ask but it would be really cool to see pictorial history of the place (I did not ask). I say a must stay!!

Yelp
I really, really wanted to like this place. Based on YELP reviews, we booked 1 night (thursday) while on a trip through Durango. By the next morning, we couldn't wait to get on the road. The good - GREAT location downtown. Super easy walking distance to everything happening (and it is happening -- I was surprised by the activity in Durango on a Thursday night). Cute old apartment house renovated into a hotel. Breakfast was super good -- fresh fruit, freshly baked pastries and an awesome raspberry french toast. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The not so good -- the room had 1 window which was had frosted glass so no natural light at all. The window air conditioner was LOUD and we alternated through the night between sleeping through the loud air conditioner or turning it off and sweating it out. The bed was old and sagged in the middle. The room itself was kind of musty. It is decorated with everything cowboy. Maybe if that is your thing it would make this special. If location is key, this is it. Otherwise, not so sure.

Yelp
THE place to stay in Durango. Great location, nice rooms, fab breakfast and a very beautiful courtyard which feels like an oasis that's all yours to hang out in with family, friends or even have meetings if you are in town doing business. Very special. Look no further for a true reflection of an authentic stay in Durango!

Yelp
Our room was spacious and the bathroom well equipped with accessories. All of the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, with restaurant recommendations and offers to assist with any request they anticipated we might have. Breakfast, which we took every morning in the garden, was excellent. We also enjoyed talking with the proprietors. Our only complaint is that the end room we were in tended to get very warm and the window air conditioner we turned on at night was very noisy.

Yelp
So I was just going through some bags and came across some soap, normally this is not noteworthy but this time it is. It had a sticker from the hotel we stayed at in Durango back in June, the Rochester Hotel. This brought back such good memories I had to write a Yelp review about it, seriously, this place was awesome. My fiancé and I had camped at Mesa Verde in a thunderstorm the previous night, and looked the part walking into the hotel at 10 am. Tired, cold, and soaking wet. The woman at the front desk (I'm so sorry I forget your name!) was an angel and helped us get a room earlier than the usual check in time while she pointed us in the right direction for brunch downtown. By the time we finished brunch our room was ready and that was one of the more life reaffirming showers and naps I've ever taken. We stayed in the "How the West was Won" room and it felt like home. Best service I've received at a hotel in a very long time, and certainly the best breakfast. I'm sure we will be back again soon! Thanks again!
