Staying in the hostel was a great experience and we shall definitely do it again! Hadn’t thought of this kind of stay before but clearly loads of families had! Check-in was easy and the staff were really friendly. We had a family room (parents plus 14 and 11yr old) which was clean and comfortable with a view looking out at the hills. Bathrooms were spotless and the kitchen area was spacious and really well equipped with whatever cooking/eating utensils you might need. All the communal areas are well-designed and well kept. Really enjoyed our stay and wished we could have stayed longer! Definitely planning a return trip!

We had a lovely family stay at The Rocks at Plas Curig Hostel. Ellie was extremely kind and helpful, and our children had an amazing New Year. The place felt warm and welcoming, and we even extended our stay. One small suggestion would be improving the first impression when entering — a fresher, more outdoorsy scent (pine or citrus) would really suit the location. There was also a fire alarm on our last day without explanation, which was a little worrying, but overall this didn’t affect how much we enjoyed our stay. We’re already planning to return in the spring.

What a great place! All the benefits of a hostel but much improved by being independent. Great location, super comfy beds, good kitchen amenities, log burner in the sitting room and fire pit outside, sociable atmosphere and very welcoming, helpful staff. And the major bonus that dogs are allowed. The Rocks is well above the standard YHA provision.

Every time I stay at the Rocks it never fails to impress. Friendly staff (Nick) who’s always happy to help, and the place has a warm relaxed vibe. The bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen are always clean and well equipped. If you’ve unsure about a “hostel” I would suggest you try this place as you’ll be pleasantly surprised. I’ve been a couple of times with my daughter and she loves staying here and meeting people. Look forward to visiting again soon hopefully. Lee

Lovely spot, wonderfully aesthetic decor, well-stocked kitchen with great arrangements for food storage. Drying room works a treat. Friendly feel. Manoevring a larger car/van in the car park is tight (and on a slight slope). Our 3-bed / bunk room only had 2 power sockets - one more would have been great. And maybe a chair would be really helpful? And the top bunk ladder had pretty slender rungs to ascend/descend. Felt a bit precarious for an older guest! Kitchen has great equipment and utensils. I could only find one sharp knife - but I'm assuming that's my inability to search! We ordered their Dinky Map with our booking, but when we arrived, they had none left. We were relying on it, so wasn't great to find out too late to do anything about it!

I have stayed at The Rocks a couple of times and will do so again. The hostel is in a great location with easy access to the mountains. The bedrooms are comfortable and clean, the showers hot and powerful and the self catering kitchen has everything you need to whip up a good meal. There are a couple of pubs within walking distance that serve good food if you don’t fancy cooking. Definitely one of the best hostels I’ve stayed in.

Perfect. I run a little mixed hiking group in Kent and this was our 1st weekend away so I was a little nervous. The perfect place to stay. We loved it so much we have booked again for next March already as nothing would come close to this place. The kitchen is huge and has everything. Not just random bits. Everything.. Think big stews cooking while you are climbing. Very laid back atmosphere. The log burner is so cosy. Little extras like hot water bottles, yoga mats. 15 of us easily fit into the front room and all played games. The beds are cosy and comfy. Really clean. Michael is great, approachable and helped me pick routes as I had soo many saved in kamoot. We are all excited to head back next year.

Beautifully laid out and so well thought through down to the small details. ||Bedroom - we had a double with a full size bunk overhead.. Lovely and warm, but could adjust temperature of radiator and open window. Individual shelves next to bed for phone, glasses, book etc and individual bright lights for reading. Having the bunk above the head meant not woken by child turning on their light. Extra blankets available. There was one area of our room that was a little dark, but other than that perfect room||Bathrooms. These were not hostel bathrooms. These were beautiful, posh hotel ensuite style bathrooms, or those that you would see in an interior design magazine. Warm, clean and with heated towel rail. Only visited 3, all with clean showers. Never had to wait for one to be available as there were several spaced out.||Snug room with fire. Gorgeous||Kitchen. So well thought through - large storage box for each room and labelled shelf in one of the fridges. Markers to be able to mark food. Plenty of crockery, glasses, cutlery, pans, kettles, microwaves. Couple of electric cookers. 4 large washing up sinks and plenty of washing up liquid / sponges. And heated towel rails so tea towels dried quickly. 2 islands with worktops for preparing food and stools to natter while preparing food, although there is a separate dining room with large, solid tables and benches against wall / chairs. A large map on the wall to plan route. The only niggle for me was that the sides of the kitchen weren't as well lit as the centre, so initially harder to find things, but then my eyesight isn't that great anyway.||Very friendly and helpful owner. Trying to work out when we can go back......
