We stayed for 2 nights mid-week on an Itison deal. Was a bit apprehensive after some of the reviews, however we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was a bit odd as there were not many guests and very few staff. One staff member, Janie seemed to be there most of the time and appeared to do everything except cook. When Janie wasn't there, there were no staff, the front door was locked (you got a key.) She was very friendly, helpful and professional, despite having much to deal with. There were a couple of issues - non delivery of food and a plumbing emergency which closed the kitchen, but she dealt with this professionally and overcame the problems despite some irate guests. The food we did get was fabulous! Dinner was delicious. As was the cooked breakfast, the best Eggs Benedict I've ever eaten, and my partner said black pudding was the best he's ever had. The hotel is situated a ten minute walk from the centre of Dunbar with beautiful views over the coast and golf course. Lovely coastal path next to the hotel. The hotel grounds could do with tidying up a bit but the hotel itself was clean and tidy. The reception was not always manned, there were no staff there overnight. This didn't bother us at all. The room was nice enough, comfortable with a good shower and plenty of hot water. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back.

We dropped in last minute for lunch, and they could fit us in. I would advise making reservations though. The portions were perfect, the food damn tasty, and the service excellent. They made the bold claim of having the world's best olives. I don't know about that, but they were really good!

Good food. Accommodated my Gluten free request with adaption to the already set menu. Staff were pleasant, attentive but not overly so and the food arrived promptly. Haven't been out much since COVID so was a nice experience.

What a superb location, great view from room 5. Decent sized room, nice and clean and big super comfy bed. Staff lovely. Served tasty food. ☹️ bedside lamps - no good for reading, not enough light.

Excellent, excellent food. 5 stars for the food, 3 for the service. The waitstaff was inexperienced; eager and helpful, but not well trained. Both servers had less than 15 days experience which led to the Starter not being served before the Mains, but all coming out together. She did offer to make it right, which was lovely, but we chose not to waste food and took service as it was. I am sure this will improve with time, but it was a blot on an otherwise lovely evening in a beautiful setting with an upscale menu.

Despite being excited to stay at the hotel the service and lack of communication when attempting to receive a refund or change of date for my stay. I have attempted to contact the hotel on 5 different occasions the first one being 5 days before my stay to attempt to change the date due to a death in the family and having to travel 500 miles away at last minute. This is truly disappointing and unacceptable.

First off i need to say the restaurant manager and staff were very friendly and welcoming. They made the evening. The restaurant decor is smart and tasteful. On to the food: At this price range its high end restaurant prices, but the food didn't match sadly. First off they had ran out of wine under £26 apart from one bottle. We had cullen skink which was ok, but didn't have any cream in it and had potato that needed more cooking. The other starter was a bucket of seafood. My wife enjoyed this but i thought it needed to be more crispy and needed more seasoning. For our mains i had a burger which came recommend. It was ok and was a decent size, but the pattys were a bit rubbery, overcooked and lacked seasoning. I've had too many burgers like this from pubs, i should learn my lesson. The fries were great though. The other main was a fish curry. At £18 you would expect king prawns, a crab claw even? But it was pretty much a vegetable curry with a few bits of fish (possibly even the smoked haddock that seems to be in everything). The curry was ok, but not £18 ok. The rice that came with the curry was well overcooked and mushy. To be fair on the restaurant they replaced the rice quickly, but the second lot was mushy also. We were offered a couple of quid off the bill or a desert for free. We took the desert. This was a nice gesture and welcomed. We ordered sticky toffee pudding, which was decent enough but didn't blow us away. I realise this review is long and moany, but i felt it had to be written. The restaurant has a good rating on Google and promised much. But at that price range it didn't deliver. I heard the restaurant is under new ownership, so that may be part of it. They need to work on the menu, some more fish options that aren't smoked haddock would be welcome.

We didn't stay in the hotel. We booked for an evening meal. The food was VERY mediocre - pub chain food NOT Gastro.....Only four options of main course available:- Fish and Chips, Burger, Steak or Veg shepards pie.........Two different couples left before their food arrived - both had been waiting over an hour for their food to arrive with no explanation. A third couple paid and said the whole experience had been a shambles.........Our food did arrive in a timely manner but was greasy and not at all inspiring. I ordered a pint of soda and lime - I was served a small glass with so much ice there was little liquid in it. If we had paid full price for the meal and drinks (we had a voucher) the bill would have come to almost £68............Will not be going back any time soon.

Yelp
Not what it used to be. Small inexperienced staff with poor training. Poor food quality. Very disappointing

Yelp
Lager drinkers are will catered for here as there seem to be at least five different craft ones on tap. The food looked very appetising, however, and there are lunch and evening deals on on weekdays so the effort will be made to get down for dinner one night. Eating it looking out over the Forth would I think be a memorable experience.

Yelp
I liked this place, a wee bit hard to find if you aren't from the area, but the menu was great and the staff very helpful. The walk down to the sea is a must if the weather is fine.

Yelp
DO NOT TRUST THIS HOTEL. We had been planning a trip to see the Edinburgh Tattoo for a while and had a booking at The Rocks confirmed by email on January 11 2018, our stay was to be arr Aug 17th dep Aug 20th 2018. On July 11th we received an email from them confirming our cancellation of the room? We had not cancelled - they told us that they had a wedding that weekend that was taking the whole hotel which had been booked for a year!! They also told us that another 12 parties had been booked during that time and been similarly cancelled.Whether any effort was made to find us other accommodations similar or better we don't know, they never contacted us, but there is no way during the Tattoo that you can find any available rooms with only a month to go, our trip was in ruins. We did manage to find a hotel ourselves but we had to rent a car in order to get to Berwick (56 miles south of Edinburgh) which cost us over 3 times as much.

Yelp
The Rocks is one of the classiest resteraunts in East Lothian. The food is first class and the staff go out of their way to assist you even to the extent of driving you home if you need a lift. If you are looking for a steak dinner you must try there fillet stake which melts in your mouth. The starets and deserts are just as apatising with a sticky toffee pudding which is the best.

Yelp
Thoroughly recommended for its hospitality and relaxing atmosphere. We have stayed at the hotel on a few occasions when in this part of Scotland and have never been dissapointed. The restaurant and its varied menu is great. We would have liked to have tried the whole menu selection but either ran out of time or would have had to buy larger clothes. Accomodation is very comfortable and again we tend to sleep the clock round due to its peaceful location. Lovely staff and well run. Simply great.

Yelp
For thoughtful, well presented and superbly cooked local produce in a relaxed but friendly and attentive environment with tasteful decor, the Rocks is an excellent place to eat. Not the cheapest, but far from over-priced. Spot on.
