The Rockwell Museum

It's a nice art museum. If you pay a little extra you can get a ticket for Rockwell with your glass museum ticket. I think its really worth it. Especially since you have access for two days. The exhibits themselves are interesting. One of the ones that have up right now are called palettes. Which are basically pictures of an artist's palette after they've finished one of their works. It's really cool to see.

Great vibes, great art, but the best installation has to be Miss Sylvia at the front desk! She's a true American hero and I wish we could've taken her home with us!

Lovely little spot. My 2.5 yr old daughter broke her leg so we were out exploring and went with the intention of visiting the kids lab. Unfortunately that is closed in the “winter” on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but the front desk staff was lovely and we still very much enjoyed the museum. We did the ghost hunt and the art hunt and my daughter was very happy to get some cute rewards for her and her sister upon completion. It was also really wonderful that the museum had little strollers available, that made it easier to navigate with the broken leg and walking cast. We will definitely be back!

3 floors of American & Native artworks. Very nice gift shop as well. Everyone is very welcoming and helpful. We bought the ticket combo for Museum of Glass which works for 2 consecutive days.

An amazing, eclectic, educational collection of 20th century art, focusing mainly, but not exclusively on the displacement of native Americans, and the emerging industrialization of the nation. A fantastic experience for art and American History enthusiasts. Also, we found some fairly priced, unique items in the Gift Shop.

This is a lovely architectural marvel has worn many hats and she still stands tall and majestic as a pillar in this community with a life now as a art museum doing an incredible service to all who grace its galleries! We had a great visit and loved our time there, I highly recommend spending time there, especially with the high school student section! It is so in-depth and immersive! I’m very grateful to the curator who thought of this and got it done! Amazing artistry is on display here! The views from the top floor veranda is so lovely and cozy!

Wonderful small museum. Some terrific pieces, including significant artists from New Mexico and elsewhere. There is a huge Bierstadt landscape and numerous paintings from the Taos School of artists. Beautiful building. And a terrific little gift shop. I highly recommend it.

Visiting the Rockwell Museum in Corning, NY, was an enriching experience. The museum beautifully captures the essence of the American spirit through its diverse collection of artworks. From stunning Western landscapes to thought-provoking contemporary pieces, the exhibits offer a deep look into different eras and perspectives of American history.

This is a very nice museum! I love that it's a Smithsonian affiliated museum. They had a great permanent collection and a lovely special exhibit from William Wegman. There's an elevator to the 3rd floor. Then you can work your way down. The staff in the gift shop is very kind and helpful. This is a very nice place!

Smaller museum that you can spend around one hour in unless you really take your time and study the paintings and art. Beautiful collection of Native American History is on display at The Rockwell Museum. Also oddly enough they had an entire room dedicated to a gingerbread house competition. The gingerbread houses were absolutely amazing however and you can vote on the one you like best. The Museum is located in the Gaffer District (downtown Corning) which has antique shops and cute stores within a one minute walk. Also a shuttle is available for free from and to the Corning Glass Museum right outside The Rockwell Museum. The gift shop also has really neat items, my gf and I spent prob close to thirty minutes just in the tiny gift shop. Highly recommend you stop in here if you visit the Corning, NY area. As always people SYOY!!!

We came as a part of a combo ticket with the Glass Museum. While there are some very good works on display, it's maybe not the best meshed together. A nice, quiet museum that is geared towards adults. Bonus points for the descriptions by some artwork from the staff, that told some interpretations for selected works - this really added some context, and made me take a second look at times.

You simply can't go wrong with visit here. Coupled with the Corning museum of glass entry tickets it's as interesting as it gets.

Beautiful art museum with contemporary pieces. Small space but definitely worth your time.

This isn't the best museum I've ever gone to. It's fairly niche, a lot of early American stuff, but they had some nice First Nations people/Indigenous people pieces. I wish some of them had a little more context or information. A lot of glazing over on some pieces. When I was there, there was an AIDS exhibition, though it was tucked away in a conference room with table and chairs, and not well highlighted. There was a Nat Geo photography exhibition on the first floor, which was neat, but crowded. This museum was fine, but I wouldn't make a special trip. You can get a combo ticket with this museum and the Corning Museum of Glass (also reviewed) for 28 dollars. Also of note, parking here is paid (not expensive) and there is a shuttle going from this museum to Corning Museum of Glass.

People come to Corning to visit the Museum of Glass and many skip the Rockwell Museum. However the Rockwell staff are using their voices and the collection to tackle questions of diversity and inclusion, as well as the COVID pandemic. The text in the museum and the art should lead to deep thoughts and meaning conversations, especially in turns of moving from passive land acknowledgments to real action.

My husband and I loved our visit here on our anniversary trip in the late summer. The woman working at reception was so kind and helpful, and we couldn't resist buying one of the adorable finger puppets for our little one on the way. I definitely recommend adding the Rockwell to your itinerary for your Corning, NY trip. The combination ticket with the Museum of Glass is an incredible deal!

This was my first (and only) time there. I didn't realize it was a museum of primarily Western art. As a Westerner, this was a waste of time & money because this type of art is all over the place at home, so I didn't need to see it in New York. Additionally, there wasn't much to see, so I'm glad we did it as a Corning Glass Museum add-on because it wasn't worth the value at all by itself & really wasn't as an add-on. This museum was also a waste because much of interpretive signs and modern art pieces were the current woke narrative of hating American liberty and whites for being white.

Kind of smaller than I expected, especially coming from DC where there are lots of Smithsonian museums. But great exhibits! I really enjoyed everything and very nice service.

Definitely make sure to get the package of 2 museums and not just the Rockwell. Unless you're looking for a short visit. Was empty and the few people there all wore masks. Very different from the other museum in town where COVID scared no one and mask wearing was 25-30% tops. Felt much safer at Rockwell. The exhibit is somewhat disjointed. Pretty quick to walk through. 60, maybe 90 min depending on your museum walk speed. Better way to end your day. Relaxed. Easy. No hustle bustle. Shame that unlike other Smithsonians it's not free.

Enjoyable visit, but don't mistake this for a gallery of Norman Rockwell art. This is however a Smithsonian Affiliate and truly worth a visit. We especially liked the third floor permanent collection. The Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) objects were excellent and provide insight into the much of the names of cities, streets, bodies of water, etc throughout the state. On the second floor we enjoyed the sculpture of the blind artist, which by his suggestion you are encouraged to touch. We also found some different items than is typical for some museums and purchased a few things as gifts.

Stunningly beautiful artworks, in various different forms, all presented with respect and enough information to give context to the artist methods, backgrounds, and potentially their message. Add in that it is a very affordable price, and set in a beautiful historic building , makes for a wonderful art museum

I'll be honest, I only came here because I was in town for the glass museum's holiday showcase and the Sparkle event, but as this museum was also free for the day, and as I had heard there was a gingerbread house competition, I figured I would check it out. I'm not really someone who is overly into art, I appreciate people who have a skill for drawing, painting, sculpting, etc., but I don't always "get" the art in art museums, however despite not having high hopes for this museum I was pleasantly surprised by the interactiveness for children. If I had kids, I would definitely come back, and I would recommend it to anyone who has kids. From magnetic puzzles on the walls, to these glowing tables with see through pattern pieces to make designs with there were loads of activities for children to actively participate in. Special for the holiday showcase they also had some scavengar hunts, bingo, and cookie decorating that I could see occupying kids for hours. However, without having kids and not being overly into the art, we spent some time checking out the gingerbread houses and the art a little, but didn't spend too much time.

It was ok, low cost I thought it was Norman Rockwell, it is not. Lots of Indian art. Some other artist with some nice art. Building is nice and two churches down the street with nice old buildings.

A small museum but there are some gems to be had here. The top floor has the majority of the items of interest, plus you can go outside to the rooftop patio for an awesome view of Corning. You really won't need more than a couple of hours here. Buy your admission as with the Corning Museum of Glass package and just take the shuttle from there. Though if you do decide to drive, they have a small parking lot behind the museum.

What a gem! Three story building, start at the top and work your way down. Beautiful exhibits of western sculptures, paintings and an exhibit of Civil War photographs, incredible gun collection and (5) Andy Warhol paintings (?) Following the western theme. Park at Corning Glass Visitor's Center and take shuttle bus, which runs the loop every 15 minutes.

I used to live here in corning, and the museum was underwhelming. I remember there being so much more to look at and take in but it was just empty and an overall let down. I recommend not going.

Short n sweet little museum with a lot of Native American influence. There was a women's exhibit when we visited that show cased many tallented artisans using different mediums.

A top pick of places to visit when in the Finger Lakes Region. One can purchase combo tickets for The Rockwell and Corning Museums. Tickets are good for two days and there's a free shuttle bus that takes you between the two. There are lots of restaurants and small shops nearby. The museum itself is small, so it's easy to navigate their treasures of western art. The size and layout of the museum made it a pleasure for viewing breathtaking works of art. I found the choice of frames for the paintings fascinating as well.

Nice museum! My sister and I spent a little over an hour looking at the paintings, sculptures, photos, etc. Friendly staff, nice gift shop!

Visited the museum yesterday and enjoyed myself. Have been prior, it's kind of small, but not expensive and takes maybe an hour to go through. I am not really sure what they do with all the museum space, the third floor has quite a bit to see, the second floor very little, and the first floor even less, but the building itself (quite cool looking) is huge. The exhibition space is quite small for a museum, but since it's only $10.00 and takes an hour, it's worth a visit, if only to see once. Have fun!

We purchased the tickets as a combo with the Corning museum. The price was ok given the combo. The museum is nice, very well maintained. The items were well organized and presented. You can go through the place in under 45 minutes. Super small.

This little museum is such a treasure! It's just the right amount of art pieces to look at without hitting sensory overload. Featuring huge American landscape paintings as well as a lot of objects of Nstive history, most of this art is the kind you need to see in person to really appreciate. And, as a Smithsonian affiliate, the traveling exhibits are always new and interesting.

We had a very nice visit to The Rockwell Museum. My kids really enjoyed the scavenger hunt. The gun displays were amazing. The Native American armor was wonderful. The statues and painting were really beautiful. So happy I paid for the combination tickets and got to come here. Thank you!

This is the worst museum I have been in. They try to get people to go here based on the name and selling with the Corning Museum of Glass, but it is a giant waste of time. The gift shop is more interesting than the entire museum. The only exhibit I was interested in, the Hopi Kachina Dolls, had no information whatever and was a huge let down. Not to mention the art was not impressive and very little was by actually natives or people of the era. I wont ever reccomend anyone to visit here.

A charming and easily overlooked gem of Corning. Came here after buying a dual ticket from the Corning Glass Museum (which admittedly was our main draw) honestly as sort of an impulse move. We weren't expecting much and man were we wrong. The building itself is gorgeous and a great example of local history, lovingly restored and maintained. The collection is a a bit eclectic but all worthwhile. There are some gorgeous pieces and you get a fantastic slice of Americana and local flavor. There is also a robust children's section brimming with interactive fun that no family should pass up. We sort of had our run of the place in the late afternoon/early evening and had a wonderful opportunity to soak it all in. The staff was lovely and helpful and the current featured/rotating exhibit was well curated and very interesting. All in all it is a small museum but in the best sense of that. Well maintained and thoughtfully laid out, you get a lot of one with each piece and plenty of attention from staff. It doesn't take long to see it all but you could also easily spend as much time as you wanted to here. Don't pass it up if you are in town. It's right in the downtown area, steps from shopping and dining. Do yourself a favor and at least pop in before or after a meal - you won't regret it.

Visiting friends in the area and wanted to see the Corning Glass museum. Rockwell Museum was touted as a twofer when I bought glass museum tix. Basically do not bother. Nothing to do with Norman Rockwell. Apparently local couple named Rockwell collected guns and western art before it was the thing. Collection was donated to Smithsonian hence the name. No real theme to the exhibits. Indian baskets, Remington paintings, guns and a tower made of local textiles. Guns were the most remarkable display with a number of rare pieces but got short shrift likely because it does not fit the PC feel of the rest of the exhibits.

It's a nice museum and a manageable size. It only takes about an hour or so to get through all of it. It definitely doesn't induce museum fatigue. Worth stopping by if you're in Corning!

What used to be one of my favorite museums in the world has, in the last year, become a sad dreary local affair in the worst possible way. Once soaring spirit elevating special exhibits of Western art has been reduced to a pile of ugly blankets with sad stories attached. Even the wonderful paintings of their permanent collection feel like neglected children on the wall. The spirit is gone.
