I do not have enough good things to say about our tours early in 2015. My husband and I did the combination Colosseum and night time food tour. It was around $60 per person, and worth every penny. Our Colosseum tour happened to not have anyone else booked for it, so it was like a private tour. We spent several hours with our guide, who truly has a passion for Roman history. We learned so much from him! We toured the Colosseum and Roman Forum, before being escorted to the Vittorio Emmanuel monument, where we were given lift tickets to the top. We were also given a cell phone for the day in case we had any problems between the tours or needed help getting to our next location. The guide was patient and took lots of time to answer our questions, let us take pictures, and give us lots of information.
Later that evening, we met with our next guide in an area of Rome with far fewer tourists. For hours, our group walked from shop to shop, meeting shop keepers, drinking wine, sampling delicacies from all over Italy, and learning more about Italian food than I ever knew I needed to know. Our group wasn't large, which made it great to joke and get to know one another a little.
My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary, and they presented us with a balloon, rose, and a card. It was the most lovely gesture!
Lastly, of note, is that if there are any food allergies or sensitivities, this tour is for you. I have a gluten intolerance and all of Italy was easier to navigate than I expected, but the Roman Food Tour went above and beyond. Our tour guide was knowledgable and alerted the shops before our arrival, then double checked each item before giving it to me. There were only two items on the entire tour I couldn't have or couldn't be modified for me- one was the bread on which proper Italian butter was sampled (I just had a bit on a spoon!) and the pizza at Bonci. To be fair, they gave me instead a portion of porcetta at Bonci, a common sandwich filling. It was crisp pork, succulent and heavily flavored with rosemary. I shared with the group and they agreed that my taste was better than the pizza! (That says something, because Bonci is world famous for their pizza!).
If we get to go back to Rome, we will 100% do the tour again.
